Here's all the info:

Head strap replacement

Head strap to HMD adapter Shout out to /u/nw15062 for creating this!

Replacement Face pad: About Face VR (no longer in business)

Headphones: Koss PortaPro Shout out to /u/Mister-S for the original built-in headphones tutorial

Besides that I used a bunch of velcro straps for cable management and plastic velcro to keep the headphones mounted - I'll see if that becomes an issue down the line but it's working fine now.

u/daversa · 21 pointsr/oculus

I bet you'll be surprised by their quality. Palmer knows audio and he wouldn't let something that isn't half-decent fly. They sorta look like a porta pro driver to me.

u/thebope · 17 pointsr/BuyItForLife

The Koss PortaPros have been treating me rather well and I believe they come with a lifetime warranty should something break. Really really enjoyable to listen to lossless music with those bad boys and the 35 dollar price tag can't be beat!

u/phargarten · 15 pointsr/Music

Hey guys. I am a DJ and have been through my fair share of headphones for professional and personal use. Brands to watch out for are Pioneer, Sennheiser, Shure, Ultimate Ears. Brands to run from (in my experience) are Audio Technica, Yamaha, Sony (mainly on their lower end), weird brands like Coby and JVC, and for godsakes be weary of skullcandy; they may look cool but they are made from exceptionally cheap materials that result in poor build and sound quality.

Finally, it depends what you are looking for: in-ear, cans(over ear or open air), noise canceling etc.

In-Ear:
1-- Sennheiser CX200

3-- Shure E2c

Open-air:
1-- Koss PortaPros (dorky but amazing sound for $)

2-- Sennheiser PX100

3-- Grado SR60 -- 80 dollars but well worth it -- my favorite but read up on these before you buy

Over-ear:

hope that helps :)

For ~$40 go for Koss Portapros. They have great sound for the value plus they come with Koss' Lifetime Warranty. I've had them for almost a year and swear by them.

u/DistinguishedTrout · 12 pointsr/hiphopheads

Koss Portapros. They look goofy as hell but they've been around forever for a reason.

u/SuperDuckQ · 12 pointsr/audio

The classic standby for me is the Koss PortaPro. They sound fantastic, are more portable than over-the-ear headphones, and are criminally cheap.

u/hodkan · 11 pointsr/ipad

In case you weren't aware, iPads can use any headphones. You don't need to use headphones that are specifically made for Apple or iPads.

So you probably are going to want to figure out how much you want to spend and what style of headphones you want. Then you might want just to go to Amazon and see which ones are well reviewed in your price range.

.

And not everyone finds earbuds comfortable. He may prefer a different type. For example, the Koss PortoPro are well reviewed and extremely comfortable. However they don't do a good job blocking out background noise and they will leak sound if they volume is turned up loud. So depending on how he uses them, they may not be a good choice.

u/ItsOldGreg · 11 pointsr/gadgets

I don't know about you guys but Koss porta pros are where its at. Life time warranty, amazing sound quality and durability. They usually break on me once a year and I use them everyday all day.

u/Soryosan · 10 pointsr/oculus

your q930 can't even beat a pair of koss porta pros...

meet the best value headphones you can buy. alot of audiophiles consider the koss porta pros a starting point for pro audio

the speakers included in the rift are likely the same if not better.

Okay. What I am going to recommend is two sets of headphones. One for nice, comfy, multi-hour home listening in front of the computer, and another set for when you're on the go. All of these sound good without any amplification.

Full-Size, Home Listening

  • Audio Technica ATH-AD700 - nice, mid-level offering. Wonderful, open sound and definitely the #1 most comfortable headphones I have ever owned. These are fairly large, this is what they look like on me. They are reasonably light, and the design is completely open. You will hear sounds around you and if someone is sitting next to you, they will hear some of your music (or all of it, if you have the volume cranked). The pads are fuzzy and comfortable. Highly recommended for electronic music, chamber pieces, acoustic guitar and piano... well, just about everything. (~$100)

  • Sennheiser HD-280 Pro - These are the heavyweight champions of the $50-$100 price range. Headfi (a major audiophile community) loves these things. So do I. Comfortable, with fantastic bass response and great isolation. Built like a tank - I DJ'd for quite awhile and my set is still going strong despite being dropped, stepped on, thrown in road cases, etc. The ear cups also rotate reasonably freely to allow them to fold "flat" and be tossed in a backpack. The pads on these are that pleather material which could cause a little bit of sweat, but nothing to really complain about. Excellent sound, overall, but particularly suited to drum n bass, dubstep, industrial, goa and other genres of trance and electronic dance music. My pair is actually in my lab at work, at the moment, so no photo of them, sorry! (~$90)

  • Audio Technica M50S - Foldable, easy to toss in a bag. These are what I moved to after using the 280 Pro's for several years. Very smooth sound with a pretty surprising bass range. Definitely out-performed the 280's in some pieces of music when it came to the low range. Again, smooth, balanced sound overall. Great isolation on par with the 280's. The soundstage isn't as good as the AD700's, since these are closed headphones, otherwise I'd totally recommend these, flat out. These beat the Monster Beats Studio, hands down, for a third of the price. <3 Bass (~$120)

    Portables

  • Koss Portapro - These things are classics for a reason. Very, very highly recommended by a ton of people. Comfortable, portable, built well, and excellent sound for the price bracket they are in. Unique styling. Those temple pads you see keep the pressure from the earpieces from becoming fatiguing on your ears. I've forgotton that I was wearing them on several occasions and tried to put on my hat over them. If you're cool with the style, I really recommend these. (~$40)

  • Grado SR60i - I love Grados. They have a really classic look, they are very comfortable, and they have solid sound. More suited to articulate, dynamic music. Not a ton of bass. Would recommend these for home use as well, actually. If you want, you can step up to the SR80i, but I don't feel like you will hear too great a difference, out of an iPod or an onboard soundcard. (~$70-$100)

Note: the Amazon links above are using my affiliate ID. What this means is that if you purchase a set through those links, Amazon gives me 4-6% of the purchase price as a commission. The price you pay is not affected in any way - that commission comes out of their end. You don't have to use those links, you can search Amazon for any of the models above. And by all means, you don't have to buy through Amazon.
u/Release_the_KRAKEN · 9 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

Oh shit! The legendary PortaPros. Beastly performance, outdated design, but the cheapest I've ever seen them? This headphone is like a must buy if you're a cheap fucker who doesn't have anything good right now.

u/wellPressedAttire · 8 pointsr/LifeProTips

hey, best bet would be the Koss PortaPros, they're the go-to for that price range.

u/Tursmo · 8 pointsr/Fitness

Koss Porta Pros. They are relatively cheap, good sound quality, lifetime warranty and they fold into very small space.

u/PM_ME_SOMETHINGS · 7 pointsr/todayilearned

The Koss PortaPro doesn't look that great, but quite cheap, good sound and lifetime warranty!

u/satyaloka93 · 6 pointsr/OculusQuest

Nice! I bought three accessories already and I don't have the Quest yet: Studioform comfort strap, VRcover facial interface, and the Koss Porta Pro headphones.

u/Rookwood · 6 pointsr/technology

Here are some good headphones for the price.

Koss PortaPros - $50 (Usually you can find these for like $30, not sure why Amazon has them marked up)

Grado sr60i - $80

Sennheiser HD555 - $190

Audio Technica is another manufacturer to look into but I'm not familiar with their products. I only use open back headphones.

I think the Grado's are the best deal. I use sr80i's.

u/jazzbrownie · 6 pointsr/AdviceAnimals

That's why no one should buy skullcandy. Portapro's may not be the sexiest headphones, but they sound better than anything you can get for $50 and last forever.

u/Nippy_Kangaroo · 6 pointsr/Vive

I'm getting some cheap super lightweight over ear headphones for friends and family that will be trying the vive. very cheap to replace, decent sound, very comfortable, lightweight and excellent user reviews

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00001P4ZH/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3W0S1GSYARMEY&coliid=I318WJPH4R49XP&psc=1

u/BoxMonster44 · 6 pointsr/Music

Definitely go with Koss Porta Pros. They're over-ear headphones, adjustable size, collapsible, and the sound quality is on par with anything Bose spits out. Normally $50, but you can get them for a decent $30 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Koss-PortaPro-Headphones-with-Case/dp/B00001P4ZH

u/pugabug · 6 pointsr/3DS

Try Koss Porta Pros. They are great for travel since they fold up small, plus they have a very high dynamic range and are very inexpensive. They are also lightweight so I can wear them for hours and hours without fatigue.

u/hamcake · 5 pointsr/classicalmusic

If you're looking for something really affordable with great sound, check out the Grado SR-60i - read the reviews... for sound, and price, they can't be beat.

For a good alternate set that are really portable, get the Koss Portapros - cheap, great sound, and they have a lifetime warranty. I fold these up and toss them in my backpack every day, and when they break I'll just send them back to Koss for a new set.

u/NigNagNug · 5 pointsr/headphones

If you don't mind a retro look, I would recommend the Koss PortaPro. They're a little more than $30 on Amazon right now, but sound great. I've had mine for three years, and they've held up under frequent airline and car travel. They have a lifetime warranty, though.

u/DeliciousTea · 5 pointsr/headphones

That's great but we have been giving you recommendations and you have been ignoring them. Everything Xodium recommended would work. Anything from the sidebar links in your price range will work.

Here, I'll even do the work for you:

Fostex T50RP

Shure SRH440

Incipio F38

Koss PortaPro

Grado SR80i

ATH M50

If you're a not a fucking audiophile, then ANY of these headphones will be fine for you. All of them are a better value than Beats/Bose. If you will be using it primarily on the train, pick a closed headphone for noise isolation, like the ATH M50 or Incipio F38.

There, done.

u/breadburger · 5 pointsr/indieheads

Porta Pros baby. They let out a lot of sound, but have amazing balance.

u/rjmana · 5 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

those JVCs look more sturdy. not sure what the hinges are made of. the HD201s are all plastic. the hinges are plastic too where its most prone to breakage.

edit: maybe consider the porta pros as an option. ive read good things about its durability.

u/baddrummer · 5 pointsr/AskReddit

Koss Porta Pros. Best you can find for under 35 dollars. Check out those amazon reviews if you dont believe me. http://www.amazon.com/Koss-PortaPro-Headphones-with-Case/dp/B00001P4ZH/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301871390&sr=8-1

u/BenLeng · 5 pointsr/Fitness

I like these: http://www.amazon.com/Koss-PortaPro-Headphones-with-Case/dp/B00001P4ZH/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1465207814&sr=8-1&keywords=koss+porta for working out. They are on-ear, not over-the-ear and have replacable foam pads. You can still hear what's going on around you and the don't get as sweaty. Sound is pretty OK for the price.

u/QuipA · 4 pointsr/headphones

For running I can only give you some advice. Don't get overears and don't get a fully isolating headphone. I don't where you run but, not hearing an approaching bicycle, or God forbid a car, can result in accidents. Especially with the sheer amount of bikes where I studied, getting different headphones might be better.

So here is my suggestion: Koss Porta PRO

There also is the Sporta PRO, with a 90° rotatable headband.

They are very good sounding, highly portable earpad cans, that have been around since the 80's. They have an open back build, which means you can hear your surrounding a little bit and especially your breathing.

Also weight is very important when you chose a headphone for running, and the Koss' are a whopping 83gr and additionaly have adjustable clampforce. This means you can actually decide how strong they press against your head.

You may think they look cheap and outdated, but Koss has a lifetime exchange warranty on their headphones and the Porta Pro's are rocking incredible 80's swag.

u/The_Chaos_Pope · 4 pointsr/AskReddit

Koss Porta-Pros

http://www.amazon.com/Koss-PortaPro-Headphones-with-Case/dp/B00001P4ZH

They're cheap, light and sound better than their $35 price tag suggests.

They're not sound blocking.

Huge circumaural cans (IE Sennhieser HD-280, AKG k270, et al) are great if you're sitting at home, but they're lousy for using on public transit or while walking and they make you a better target for ipod theft than the guy with the white earbuds.

If you really want sound isolation and portability, in ear monitors are a much better route to take than cans, they really are a totally different breed than the ubiquitous earbud.

u/SpaissOwl · 4 pointsr/BuyItForLife

How about for $40? Koss PortaPros. They have a great warranty and last a long time. If something breaks on them, you send them back to be repaired. Usually they just send you a new pair.

u/MachNeu · 4 pointsr/AskReddit

Not buds nor are they small but I love my Sennheiser 555s. I got them for around $90. Great build quality. I've had them for awhile now and no signs of wear or tear.

Koss PortaPro are loved by pretty much everyone for their incredibly low price and great sound quality. They fall under "small cans."

u/isonlynegative · 4 pointsr/gadgets

I bought a pair of [JayBird Bluebuds X] (http://www.amazon.com/JayBird-BlueBuds-Sport-Bluetooth-Headphones/dp/B00AIRUOI8) last summer.

They are the most expensive headphones ive ever bought and i think they are very good. To put this in perspective I thought id list my previous inferior headphones; [Koss porta pro] (http://www.amazon.com/Koss-PortaPro-Headphones-with-Case/dp/B00001P4ZH) , [AKG k81] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-K81-Closed-Back-Headphones/dp/B000BDD56W) , [Urbanears plattan] (http://www.amazon.com/Urbanears-00150609-Plattan-Headphones-Black/dp/B0030IY17C) , and SEVERAL IF NOT ALL of the Beats by dre headphones that i tried in store.

Why do i think they are good? Well they have a clear crisp sound, i can hear tones in songs that i haven't heard before, and as long as you get a good fit the bass is good too (they come with three different bud sizes and three different [wing thingies] (http://puu.sh/da4SO/a4261bc450.jpg))

The battery life is 8 hrs and that is fine by me as long as you remember to charge them every other day.

I dont know if these are the most "bang for buck" headphones but unless you are a headphone and not an earbud person you probably wont be dissapointed.

u/plazman30 · 4 pointsr/BuyItForLife

That is true. I'm old enough to remember making mix tapes and mix CDs for my wife when we were dating.

I've been very nostalgic for a Walkman lately. I used to walk all over the place with my Walkman and headphones on my head when I was a teenager. Heck, to this day, I still throw headphones on whenever I do housework or need to walk anywhere.

I even bought a pair of Koss PortaPro headphones, for that great sounding but still retro look.

u/Ekaceseehc · 4 pointsr/giantbomb

I don't remember him talking about headphones, but I love my Koss Portapros. They fold up tightly and fit in my bag, and have excellent audio quality. They also don't mess up my hair as much as other over-ear headphones tend to. Here's a [link] (https://www.amazon.com/Koss-PortaPro-Headphones-with-Case/dp/B00001P4ZH/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484145123&sr=8-1&keywords=koss+portapro). $39.99 on Amazon. They also have a lifetime guarantee.

u/jfiveeight · 3 pointsr/Velo

I use these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00001P4ZH

The pad above the drivers can be adjusted to lift the on ear driver off your ear which is really nice. I wear a headband so the pad sits very securely on that just above my ears. They are overall pretty great headphones for the price.

u/sea_change · 3 pointsr/headphones

I use my Koss Portapros for exactly this. Zero isolation, cheap, decent sound quality for the price, super comfortable. Got them for £20.

u/Zynismus · 3 pointsr/pcgaming

On-ear is also an option. Koss Porta Pro is cheap and has a lifelong guarantee, and then you could just stick an AntLion ModMic on it. Both run you just about under 100$.

Btw, a Blue Yeti is decent and also usually doesn't cost 100$.

I also wear glasses, and decent headphones aren't going to be uncomfortable, they just cost more. It's an investment, but if you want something cheaper and portable I think the Koss are very decent.

ModMic: https://www.amazon.com/Antlion-Audio-ModMic-Attachable-Microphone/dp/B00R98JVVU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1525683488&sr=8-4&keywords=AntLion+ModMic

Koss Porta Pro: https://www.amazon.com/Koss-Porta-Pro-Headphones-Silver/dp/B00001P4ZH/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1525683534&sr=1-3&keywords=koss+portapro

Some other recommendations:

SoundMagic E10: https://www.amazon.com/SoundMAGIC-Noise-Isolating-Earphones-Gunmetal/dp/B005HP3OB0/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1525683563&sr=1-3&keywords=SoundMagic+E10

These will actually sound amazing depending on the hardware you run them on. The better the source, the better they sound. They can sound as good, if not better, than In-Ears that cost double as much! They're rather neutral.

Yeti Blue Snowball: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Snowball-Condenser-Microphone-Cardioid/dp/B014PYGTUQ/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1525683616&sr=1-3&keywords=Yeti+Snowball

(Actually only 50$ right now)

u/pieftw · 3 pointsr/Bass

There's a big change when you start to play bass, you start to listen to it in songs in a different way, and it gets easier as you play for longer.
I'd say most of it has to do with those crappy speakers though, I doubt you can hear much of any bass in those things.
I recommend koss portapros
http://www.amazon.com/Koss-PortaPro-Headphones-with-Case/dp/B00001P4ZH
Good headphones are a great investment if you're into music, and doubly so if you're a musician.

u/dataupload · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Yeah I'll be fine, I guess... Down-votes happen.

I don't disagree with the other points. My only point of contention is the claim that the sound-quality is "great".

It may have been an overall "great" pair of headphones from their perspective, just as console gamers believe 30FPS and sub-720p to be "great". The headset just has objectively bad sound quality, with the worst distortion they've ever tested!

It's not even like you have to pay that much for headphones with above average sound quality and a modmic, so why not? With the X12s, all you're paying for is the brand, so how exactly is it better than say buying a pair of Dr. Dre Beats?

I guess the hive-mind of /r/buildapc has decided that personal, subjective, anecdotal evidence has won out today though... It might also have something to do with post-purchase rationalization.

u/Relemsis · 3 pointsr/audiophile

I agree with this one. Even just a pair of Koss Portapros would be amazing for OP's purpose. They're great for music as well.

u/HAREPHY · 3 pointsr/running

Koss Porta Pro

Worn through all kinds of pissing rain with no issues at all. No issues with them staying put, either.

u/doinurmop · 3 pointsr/oculus

Bionik Mantis, designed for PSVR works fine with Oculus S.

Personally I bought some Porta Pros (headphones reportedly used by the CV1)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Koss-Stereophones-Players-Samsung-Smartphones-Black-Silver/dp/B00001P4ZH

Took the speakers off since they're on a clip, and have paid a service to 3d print this mount for me https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3615447

Closest to the CV1 audio and style one can get.

u/HerpDerpenberg · 3 pointsr/PUBATTLEGROUNDS

Not the guy you're asking, but you don't need to go apeshit and buy some $150-$200 headset. But two things help better audio quality... better set of headphones and a dedicated sound card or at least an on board that has a build in headphone amplifier.

Also, I would buy a separate desktop microphone + headphones. A lot of times it's tough finding a good headphone with a good sounding microphone. Furthermore, there are issues with headsets where you get a lot of popping, lip smacking, etc since it's close to your mouth or it can catch your breathing and be annoying for people you're playing with. When you separate the two, you get the best of both worlds with a good microphone and a good set of headphones that you can also use to listen to music in public without looking like an idiot wearing a headset.

I'm using this sound card with Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone. Although, the Sony headphones are really high in price right now for some reason, you can get them for $70-80 if you look around. The reason I went with the Sony headphones, they're studio quality professional monitors. I bought these at a suggestion of a Tested review with Patrick Norton about headphones. Basically, he said that so many people who care about accurate audio representation (that's the key, no over Bass, etc) use these headphones as reference. Before, I was using Koss PortaPro Headphones which are still probably the best headphones under $100 by a long shot. My only problem is that they were open and not closed ear, so you get ambient audio mixed in and harder to isolate sounds. If you have a noisy environment around you, look for a closed headphones. They also have a short cable, so you'll need a headphone cable extension if you want to use these on a PC. The Sony have something like an 8 foot cable.

u/contrivance · 3 pointsr/audiophile

at the sub-$50 price point, you're looking for the Koss PortaPro

u/DomSchu · 3 pointsr/videos

That's what you get for buying signature headphones. I've been using these for years. They are hands down the best headphones for the price. They do look a bit dorky but the sound quality and price are worth it.

Edit:
Also they are comfortable af

u/KyleRob07 · 3 pointsr/headphones

Take a look at Koss PortaPro.

u/Arhye · 3 pointsr/Fitness

Koss PortaPro

Over 2,000 reviews on Amazon at 4.4 stars. I own two pairs of these, one for work and one for the gym. They got that old school cool but they sound absolutely amazing for their price point. Outperforming headphones at much higher prices.

u/TheTwilightPrince · 3 pointsr/Music

If you're a real cheap-ass, check these out for $33. The sound quality is fantastic, and you do get good bass. The reason they're so cheap is because the build quality is pretty low, and they look like something out of a bad 80's movie.

u/EasilyImpressedGuy · 3 pointsr/Music

Koss Porta Pro Stereo Headphones

Incredible bass considering how cheap they are. Very comfortable, and you can also fold them to fit into your pocket.

u/redditorfor16days · 3 pointsr/Guitar

you can get Koss PortaPro's for $35, they're hi-fi and come with a lifetime warranty (smash with hammer, send in with $6 S&H, get new headphones).

EDIT: some sound leakage, but it depends on how loudly you're going to be playing, tbh.

u/jun2san · 3 pointsr/ToolBand

Okay. A lot of really good recommendations here, but if you really want the best headphones under $50, you need to get these:

Koss Porta Pro On Ear Headphones with Case, Black / Silver https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00001P4ZH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_XsHxDbS2R6ZTF

Now hear me out. These are definitely the ugliest headphones out there, but it’s because they’ve been tried and true since ‘84 and Koss hasn’t redesigned them since. But they’re hands down the best quality sounding headphones under $50. Don’t believe me? Just read the reviews.

I have a pair and Fear Inoculum sounds great on them. I do have a higher end pair of sennheisers that sound way better, but I paid hundreds of dollars for those. If you’re on a budget, get these. Who cares how they look. Sit at home alone, close the door, put these on and enjoy.

By the way, I’ve used G35s and the Koss’ sound better.

u/Decipher · 3 pointsr/gadgets

> He's a kid rep for the company and knows very little, and shows so by not actually understanding the process of audio development.

Kid rep? He's Palmer fucking Luckey. The founder.

If you can judge headphones by their appearance, then why are these Koss consistently raved about as some of the best headphones ever? So much so they haven't needed to change a thing since 1984? The drivers on them look a lot like the ones on Crescent bay, no?

u/mowgli-kun · 3 pointsr/headphones

Hmm. If you were in the NY area, you could stop by the Head-Fi meet next Saturday.

Looks like you just missed a recent Head-Fi meet in Ohio. Keep an eye out for meets near you.

Other than that, I would say try out good cheap headphones (and IEMs), and if you end up enjoying any of their qualities, there are always logical upgrades.

For example:
1.) If you purchase the Koss PortaPro and enjoy the warm tilt and thick bass, the HD 650, LCD-2 and ZMF Omni are logical upgrades.

2.) If the RE-400's or Carbo Tenore's neutrality floats your boat, give the HD 600 (smoother with less sub-bass) and HE-400i (brighter with more sub-bass) a spin.

Learning to read measurements is a great help as well. Lots of great stuff available for cheap (especially with IEMs), if you look around. =)

If you really do grow to love this hobby, you can make a habit out of buying and selling headphones, amps and dacs used to keep things fresh. /r/AVexchange and Head-Fi's classified section are reputable places to do this, although I have no experience with them.

The only logical solution is for the wealthiest redditors to donate mid to high-end headphones to everybody. Once you get a taste of that mainline 3.5mm action on a decent pair of headphones there's no going back. Hell, they could probably just give them a pair of Koss Portapro's.

I don't really like IEMs, but if you're looking for some cans, I really like the Superlux HD668B - they're pretty precise and neutral, which are important for metal IMO:

http://www.amazon.com/Superlux-HD668B-Dynamic-Semi-Open-Headphones/dp/B003JOETX8

The Koss PortaPros are pretty okay for the price if a little bass heavy. Build quality has gotten worse over the years but they do have a lifetime warranty:

I like Audio Technica's stuff for metal as well, but definitely a little more pricey. Nolly has mixed some of the Periphery stuff as well as AAL's Joy of Motion on ATH-50's, which is my main pair of headphones atm.

Over-ear style: Koss Porta
I had a pair of these suckers for almost 2 years before I accidentally drove with them hanging out my car door. Rest in pieces. I liked them because I was able to hear my surroundings, as well as the music, so it seemed like I had movie soundtrack playing in my day-to-day life. They also stuck to my head like glue and were comfy for me.

In-ear isolation: Shure SE215-K
Not the exact pair I had in high school but similar price range. If you use the foam inserts or the triple flange inserts, ya ain't gonna hear much. Decent sound reproduction, maybe a little weak on the low end. Overall I loved these headphones, they could take a beating. The foam inserts do tend to suck up sweat, but I never had issues with them slipping out out on me. They lasted me about 6 years until I misplaced them, they're around somewhere though. I'll probably try to find them today. I think they also survived a trip through the wash.

I can't comment on Jay Birds. I don't know what a Jay Bird is. Sorry if the formatting is messed up, my phone can get fucked.

Koss PortaPros. They cost $35, are guaranteed for life, and have been virtually unaltered since 1984.

I always thought that audiophiles were full of shit until I listened to music on these things. It was like the first time I got prescription glasses, but for my ears.

Do not throw out that iPod!

That generation of iPod (generations 3 through 5.5) had some of the nicest sounding DACs that aren't used by the current generation.

Your hard drive went bad, so install a compact flash card in it

I did it to mine when the hard drive crapped out. Cost about $30 in parts, about 15 minutes in labor, improved battery life, reduced the weight a little bit, and increased storage capacity.

Bring your old friend back to life and, when you're done, get a pair of Koss PortaPros. They sound fantastic with that generation of iPod.

Sorry, that was a bit pretentious. Razor doesn't make the greatest headsets. For the price of those you could get Koss Portapros and a lapel mic. Which is considered much more useful (because you can go outside with them) and much better for music and gaming. The portapros often go down to $25, though they're not there right now.

u/pauseflash · 2 pointsr/headphones

Sounds like PORTAPROS! are the solution.
That's a good price for them as well.

Much bass, much light and comfortable, much cheap. What's not to love.

u/fall0ut · 2 pointsr/Harley

you should use a sena. sure you don't need the bells and whistles, but you will need a volume control. the volume needed in town is different than the volume you need on the freeway. a sena kit will give you a dial for volume control.

but if you just want speakers i would get a set of koss portapro headhphones. take the speakers off the ugly headband and use some 3m double sided take to secure them in your helmet. i have seen a lot of people splice these headphone speakers into their sena's because they are a little better quality than the ones provided by sena. in your case a drawback to the portapro is you'll have a wire coming out of your helmet going to your phone/mp3 player in your pocket.

forget earbuds. even if you can get them to stay in when you put on your helmet, after 30 minutes of riding your ears will hurt from the earbuds pressing on them.

https://www.amazon.com/Koss-PortaPro-Headphones-with-Case/dp/B00001P4ZH

with all that said, just get a sena. eventually you're going to need gps directions from your phone and listen to music. your phone bluetooth will play music and lower the music volume to give route directions then resume the music volume.

u/mr_mellow_man · 2 pointsr/indieheads

The Koss Portapro is a super cheap, basic headphone with solid sound. $49 of the $50 retail price goes into the drivers, and they're my go-to commuting/around campus phones.

u/GloverAB · 2 pointsr/brandnew

One hell of a response!!

Your setup sounds scrappy but awesome! Reaper is super cool. You should check out Splice for a great database of cheap/free/indie/not-Waves plugins. Rough Rider has become one of my favorites. If you ever want a second perspective on mixing I'd love to try my hand on some of your tracks.

Also, if you find yourself in the market for new headphones, these were recommended to me by a producer/mixer that I've always looked up to. I couldn't believe it, because they've never been part of the recording conversations I've had/read online, but they're inexpensive and work amazingly well (provided you don't need the over-ear bit).

Anyways, great job on the album. I'm excited to dig back into it again tomorrow.

A lot of this depends on your budget. Wanting to step up from 25€ still doesn't tell us how much you are willing to spend. All dollar amounts listed below are in USD:

Sub $20 - Tascam TH02. $18. Similar to the HD201 from Sennheiser, but easier to find and much cheaper.

Additionally, the Monoprice HiFi Studio Headphones are another excellent choice around $25.

$30 to $50 range - Koss Porta Pro. $33. I've always heard great things about these headphones, plus they have a sweet look.

$70ish range - Philips SHP9500S. These are closer to $75, but are extremely comfortable and have amazing sound for the price.

Most of these headphones won't require an external amp/DAC, but it won't hurt to have one either.

u/EcahUruecah · 2 pointsr/Vive

There are tons of posts about headphones in this subreddit, so I've tried to take into account all the most important features discussed to find the perfect pair. /r/Vive seems to suggest that headphones, particularly if you would ever like to demo the Vive, should have these qualities:

  • Lightweight
  • Open-backed
  • Comfortable
  • Secure on your head, even with wild movement
  • Fit people with glasses
  • Good quality audio
  • Short cable for easy management
  • Not get icky

I've found that PortaPros do all of that, and have avoided drawbacks with choosing either earbuds or larger headphones. Plus, they are extremely easy to recable. I have some paracord shipping my way and I will be posting instructions on how to get it done. If anyone else is interested but can't recable, I might be able to put together one for you once I affirm that the plug I'm using doesn't get in the way of anything.

EDIT: shoutout to /u/Nippy_Kangaroo, who also has mentioned this pair.

Koss PortaPro. Can't speak for the headphones, but after reading many of the reviews they seem quite good. Or the Sennheiser PX 100 II, which many reviews compare the two headphones. Judging from the two headphones, I would go with the Sennheiser just because they seem more durable. Hope I helped a little.

There will probably be a lot of different answers, but I just can't recommend Steelseries Syberia V2 enough.

There are several reason why I love them - they have great surround sonud, fantastic sound quality for music, a good microphone...

But most importantly - they feel like heaven on your head. I have never in my life found a more comfortable headset than Syberia V2.

That band on the top... Dude, I have no fucking clue why more companies don't use them. I kid you not - go to a store that has them, and as to try them on. They feel soooo comfortable. They sit perfectly on your head. It doesn't press too hard anywhere. You don't get tired of wearing them. They stay comfortable for years. They look fantastic, if I may say so myself.

I just can't sing enough praises. A fantastic headset. And better than any other headset with just a plain softened plastic band, like the Razer and Logitech stuff.

Seriously, just try them on. You'll instantly understand what I'm talking about.

Razer also make good headsets. In fact, they also make great computers, laptops and other peripherals. But they are overpriced. Razer is the Apple of the gaming scene - no doubt about it. You'll be getting a good product, but you'll pay 30% of the price for the little logo on the side.

Logitech bring good stuff, but they aren't exactly long lasting and they aren't very comfortable all the time.

I suggest staying away from Roccat stuff. It looks really pretty, but the ergonomics and especially the durability sucks shit. I once bought a mouse from them (Roccat Kova) - broke down a month later. Not a good experience at all.

Finally... As a complete sidenote, and not exactly fits your requirement, but if you care for great, clear sound, good quality and a fantastic company (which includes a lifetime guarantee) - I just can't stop talking abotu Koss PortaPro. They are in the cheap category of headphones, but the sound quality is just unparalleled. They are comfortable. They have great sound. Great and crystal clear highs, nice and rumbly lows (VERY surprising for an open-ear headphone). And I tried gaming with them. I switched to them as my main driver. I kid you not. The games just sound so crystal when in them, because they are actually open-ear. This really lets the sounds of some louder games get on another level.

Might not be the best choice if you're playing competitive CSGO, though.

u/Gwohl · 2 pointsr/headphones

If you're looking for portable headphones that sound great, you won't do much better than the very reasonably-priced Koss Portapro headphones.

You can get better-sounding headphones towards the $250 maximum budget, but they will be far less portable. If portable is your key purchasing point, then the Portapros will be your best bet. For portable over-ear cans, they are plenty comfortable, too.

u/maltawind · 2 pointsr/headphones

After doing some digging, I've found it incredibly hard finding on-ear/over-ear headphones that meet all of these criteria:

  1. in that price range;
  2. with a short cable;
  3. that are sold in the UK.

The JVC HA-S160 might be interesting.

After that you're getting > £15. The Koss Porta Pro will run you £30+, same with the Sennheiser PX 100-II.

Haven't listened to any of the 3 so can't attest to their sound quality.

Anyways, that's really all I could find after googling "headphones" + "short/shorter cables/cords" and trying to find those models on "Amazon.co.uk" and other sites. Probably easier to find earbuds with short cables or maybe try bluetooth headphones, but not sure if you'd be interested in those.

These have been around since the 80's and are still some of the highest reviewed headphones around. For the price they can't be beat. And for running they're extremely lightweight and the fit is adjustable. There is a foam pad that rests on your head just above the ear and you can adjust how much pressure is on the pad versus on your ear. Result; super light headphones that don't bounce around and sound pretty damn good for around 30 bucks

The age of headphones really doesn't matter. For Example the Kossa PortaPro are some damn good headphones and have been in production since 1984.

Again the impedance isn't a big factor. Plug in your 202s and see how they are, chances are they should be satisfactory because they are good headphones. If you don't find it appealing, see what kind of soundstage would you rather have, like more bass or treble, maybe wider soundstage or natural etc then you can lookup headphones based on each category to narrow it down.

Budget - <30 bucks

Source - phone, computer ds maybe. I love general use

Isolation - i guess light isolation? I seem stupid saying light isolation but I want to be able to focus on the game or music while walking but talk to friends right next to me. (this is a stupid explanation)

Preferred type - after a life of using earbuds my inside ears dont look so good, trying to cut down on that, I would say maybe over ear

Tonal balance - Neutral as possible, I am not too particular about how something sounds, if it needs to be bass boosted to sound better then was it really good in the first place?

Past headphones - Koss Ksc75 (was great headphones but annoying to be sure) and the Koss portapros (actually really good but as of now one side lost sound)

Music - Anything that sounds great goes on my playlist, even rap, which I usually despise

Improvement - something that will last long hopefully, portapros lasted me for more then half a year (bought it in june)

I was also looking at this thing right here the mic I pretty much do not need, but otherwise everything looks nice otherwise

Note: I am a complete idiot so if you cringe while reading this shit, angrily suggest a reccomendation

Like you, I forget it's on, and others don't mention it at all. I think the best bit is that people used to always try to take off the vive first (so headphones usually fell). No longer a problem!

If you're down to try over ear headphones, Koss Porta-Pro's are legit. I've used them for the past five years, and am on my third pair. They are covered by a lifetime warranty, should your pair quit working properly, all you have to do is send it to the factory and cover the return shipping fee.

As far as sound quality goes, they are unbeatable for their light weight and have unreal bass quality. I've honestly been more impressed with the sound quality of these than some of my friend's big expensive Sennheiser audiophile phones.

The only drawback is that they leak sound like a mofo. If you drop a playlist at full blast, everyone around you not listening to their own music will probably be able to hear what's playing.
Back when I had to ride a bus to school, the driver would start busting out moves from the beats I was listening to all the way at the back.

They are $6 over budget, but they sound awesome, lifetime warrenty, and are nicely adjustable.

One possibly deal breaker con, is they are open backed, if you play them loud, people can hear them, and you can hear everything around you. Nice for at home use, kinda shitty if you're using them in a library or study hall.

Very nice! I'd like to have a pair of Grados in my collection someday. At present I don't use headphones all that often. I do have the Sennheiser HD-595 headphones, which are extremely comfortable and don't require a headphone amp. I carry Koss Porta-Pros to work every day... probably the best-sounding headphones in existance under $30.

For home listening I use the Audio Technica ATH-AD700, which I do recommend even though they bleed sound like crazy. I'd like to eventually upgrade to ATH-M50, but these are nice for now.

For on the go, I use Koss Portapros, which are amazing, especially for the price.

u/cgo435 · 1 pointr/Music

If you're willing to go for another $10, these are a good pair. They don't work too well for wearing them in public places, though. The Koss PortaPros are renowned for their great sound and low cost. They're also very portable, as the name suggests. Finally, this pair of Sennheisers is very cheap and has great sound. I personally have the Marshall Majors, and I like them a lot, but they are well over $40. Good luck finding the pair you like!

A great pair of closed-back headphones under $100 USD are the ATH-M40x.

If you really need something cheap, get something like the Koss PortaPro.

u/shimaken · 1 pointr/headphones

For my cheapo setup, I use Koss PortaPros with a zalman twisty tied to it. Works suprisingly well, and you won't hear anyone badmouthing the PortaPros for sound/value. I mostly play SC2/LoL while Skyping with friends and everything sounds great.

edit: Note, although it should be obvious, that the PortaPros do not isolate at all. I actually prefer this because I need to be able to hear things going on in my home.

u/Reptoidal · 1 pointr/edmproduction

i'd like to persude you to not buy earbuds and instead buy some good travel headphones but, if you're really dead set on getting ear buds really any ear buds will do, the sound quality doesn't really vary much once you get above 20 bucks

Yeah, headphones are not going to work with that amp. If cost is no worry, you could buy him an amp or amp modeler with a headphone out and some nice headphones such as Sennheisers, Grados, AKGs, etc.

Is this Pro X different than the Koss Porta Pro that I bought on amazon a year ago?

u/razmig · 1 pointr/headphones

We used the Sennheiser HD 202 II Professional Headphones exclusively at my office for about two years. They are really great, but I found one of the ears would always go out and I had to replace them on more than on occasion. Also, not sure about other people but wearing them for extended periods of time would result in major fatigue. I had to remove them often to let my ears breathe during long work sessions.

I'm not sure if it'll fit your style, but I always recommend the Koss PortaPros, they sound incredible, are very lightweight, and come with a lifetime warranty. I've had them for three years and had them replaced once for one of the ears cutting out. The only major complaint is how much sound they bleed.

Now that I read your requirements list:

It might be better for you to focus solely on a solid base system like the Z40 now and get him proper headphones/an external monitor later.

Or even...

If you get the cheapest Z40 ($480), you can get him an external monitor like this one for $80: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-19-5-Inch-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00NWEAFQ0

Alright, Also do you consider yourself a big fan of sub-bass? I'm thinking about recommending the classic Schiit Magni 2 amplifier and Modi 2 DAC combo with the Sennheiser HD-600s. These are for home use only as they require a USB connection via your computer for the DAC, and the amp is definitely not portable haha. Those are a fantastic pairing, but the Sennheisers are a little bit lacking in the low end. Absolute magic in the mids and treble though. This is an endgame combo for many people.

Those Senns are open back, so they leak sound but provide a better soundstage compared to an closed-back pair. When it comes to closed back headphones, (Isolated - doesn't leak sound) I really, really recommend ZMF Vibros They are quite a bit more expensive, but an absolute endgame pair of planar dynamic closed back cans. The bass response is unreal on these pairs and work very, very well with hip-hop, electronic music, and pop. The Schiit amp and dac above would drive these just fine.

For the gym, I'd just get a pair of these MEE Audio M6 Pro In-ear monitors, or a good old pair of Koss Porta Pros if you don't like the IEM style. Both of those would be fine options, as they aren't super expensive but still sound great, and are durable. Just plug into your phone and you're set.

For any case though, do try to audition headphones before you buy anything! This will give you a solid idea of what kind of pair you're looking for.

If you plan on showing off the headset to others you might want some open headphones so people can hear you talk them through things while still hearing the game audio. I got tired of watching people constantly take my headphones on and off their ears to ask questions so I got some Koss ProtaPros. That's what I use too now because they sound surprisingly good, big over-ear headphones along with the headset makes for an excessive amount of stuff on your head, and I like being able to hear the doorbell and whatnot.

Check out Koss Porta Pros. I learned about them from people on the running forums, and they are often mentioned on the audiophile forums as having great sound for their price (here in the U.S. they are about $45). Best thing is they have a lifetime warranty, so if the cord goes bad, you send them back along with a check for return shipping (I think it's about $9), and they send you out a new pair. But if you're in the EU, make sure you have a warranty location there before buying.

u/boomerangotan · 1 pointr/AskReddit

u/Beer_Is_So_Awesome · 1 pointr/audiophile

There's a $6 fee involved, but they send you a brand new pair of headphones. I had an issue with mine that may have been caused by airborne metal dust. The sound gradually turned to shit and they became unlistenable roughly 5 years after purchase. I have no original documentation or receipt. I mailed them in for $5, included a $6 check, and got a brand new set in the mail a week later.

They sound way better than any $28.40 headphone deserves to.

Budget: >$50USD

Source: Computer, Tablet, mp3 player, but they're more plugged into the mp3 player and the computer.

Requirements for Isolation: Some, not a lot. It's fine if they don't have a lot of isolation.

Preferred Type of Headphone: Full-sized.

Preferred tonal balance: I'm not sure. Balanced, I guess? With accurate bass

Past Headphones: shitty earbuds, and a pair of Sony MDR-G45. I have them now, and they're some of the nicest headphones I've used (even over some Bose headphones I used briefly), but they...bled a lot? I'm not sure the term to use, when the sound leaks out of the headphones so others can hear them.

Preferred Music: Techno, Dubstep, Rock, Pop, classical, even some jazz.

I like my MDRs, but they're starting to show their age and foam padding's getting tears in it. I'd just buy some new pads to replace them but they're also sort of uncomfortable after long use, due to their shape. I'm looking at these, and they seem good, but I'm not sure if they're right for me.

Having made a thread about this a few months ago and then getting an AMAZING pair of activewear headphones, I cannot recommend these more. So comfortable, they adjust by sliding the over the head portion, which means they are always snug feeling and don't move around. That being said, they are not earbuds or overear, so they emit a bit too much noise to wear them on the subway, etc...

Absolutely perfect for working out and running.

Is he referring to the Sennheiser Orpheus? Because holy crap the mid and hi-fi markets for headphones went through a huge boom since 2007. Stax released the worlds best headphone the SR-009, Sennheiser built the worlds undisputed best dynamic driver in the HD-800's, planar technology took off with HiFiMAN and LCD as the undisputed kings, released such amazing headphones as the HE6's, LCD-2, LCD-3, and LCD-X.

Also, what the hell is he wearing on his head? Looks like a pair of headphones. Based on the general styling I can tell you that those aren't a vintage pair from the '90's. If he wants a pair of '90's or earlier cans so much why doesn't he get some? In fact, if he wants an old pair of headphones with an '80's styling that sounds like they did when they were manufactured get a pair of Koss PortaPro's. The exact same as they've always been, still being manufactured, still the best headphone under $50.

Edit: Grammar

u/Melraidin · 1 pointr/gadgets

There's some headphones that you can carry around that, while bigger than earbuds, aren't too large. Is there a reason you're not considering these?

These Koss Portapros (http://www.amazon.com/Koss-PortaPro-Headphones-with-Case/dp/B00001P4ZH) are very highly rated for their style. They have a very generous warranty. They don't fold up quite as small as a pair of earbuds might but there is a limit to the size of a speaker that will still reproduce a decent range of frequencies.

I've been very happy using a pair of Koss Portapros on my commute (where I can here what's going on around me), a pair of Sennheiser HD-280s at work (blocking some of my co-workers noise), and a pair of Beyerdynamics DT-880s at home (where I don't deal with noise and I just want something that sounds as good as I can get (at a reasonable price)).

u/seeds_ · 1 pointr/headphones

Let me first say I'm not interested in IEM's! And so far I'm considering the Koss PortaPros, but I'm not sure I'm in love with them.

Budget: <$100, but flexible if bluetooth/wireless

Source: Samsung Galaxy S4 cable or bluetooth

Isolation: Would be nice if not much noise leaked out. I'll be using these in a gym environment but would also like to use them on a quiet train.

Type: prefer closed back, on-ear; though I'm willing to try over-ear as long as they don't look clunky and imposing.

Tonal balance: I'd like a medium bump in bass with punctual highs. I really do enjoy a neutral sound, but the HD600's I use at home already achieve that pretty well. I'd like something more hedonistic for use at the gym and out in the real world.

Past headphones: Jaybird Bluebud X (I like the neutral sound but these are too painful on my ear canals and slip out too easily, even after using the recommended replacement ear tips); Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear (first generation, fabric was too nice and I was worred too much sweat from a workout would ruin them. otherwise, I loved the look, loved the bassier tone, and the comfort; these are the closest I've tried when it comes to my IDEAL TONAL BALANCE), Sennheiser HD 600 (my neutral at-home / in-studio headphones), Sennheiser HD555 (most comfortable headphones I ever owned. Big soundstage. Ears felt like they were in their own perfect environment. The reason why I've been buying Sennheiser ever since.)

Preferred music: Must play well with electronic music without bloating/muddying the low-mids. Also, I'd like if music involving microsamples was clear and punctual in the high/midrange, so much so that I can hear the difference between several different sounds playing in quick succession. Hope that came out right. I've heard Sennheisers aren't particularly good at pronouncing the highs. Prog House music, bass music, glitch-hop, industrial, future garage, tech house, dark techno, spoken word audiobooks. If the soundstage of Weird Fishes Arpeggi by Radiohead is wide and clear, I'll fall in love.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up: Headphones that won't get ruined from sweat. More than anything, if I can enjoy the music and wear them for 8 hours with zero discomfort, I'll buy you a beer. I suppose owning a set of Non-Sennheiser cans would be nice, as long as I enjoy them.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I've only heard them for a minute at a shop, and they sounded surprisingly good, plus they were very light and quite comfortable. Didn't listen for very long though so that's about all the impressions I have of the headphone.

Ok, after some years my grado igrado has broken and I'm looking for a replacement, I think I prefer a balanced sound, and the most important thing for me is that the new ones don't warm my ears too much (I have a sennheiser pc350 that I can't use too much because my ears get too sweaty), so with that in mind...

Budget - around 150€
Source - Mainly a sound blaster zxr but I'll probably use them with my laptop and phone from time to time.
Requirements for Isolation - I actually prefer that I can hear the outside world, but it's not a requirement.
Preferred Type of Headphone - on-ear but I'm open to anything.
Preferred tonal balance - Balanced.
Past headphones - Grado iGrado and sennheiser pc350, both somewhat modified.
Preferred Music - I'll use them for movies, gaming and music, and the music that I listen... well a little bit of almost everything (mainly indie and electronic, though, think radiohead, the national, beck, mogwai... )
What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Just better overall, I guess?
Location - Switzerland and Spain

Shure SRH440
Koss PORTA PRO CLASSIC

So, as you can see, I'm quite a bit lost, any recommendation?

annoying thing about porta pro is the wire connects to both headphones. i'd rather it just connected to one for a cleaner look.

i wonder if there is a headphone available which is light like the porta pro with a detachable cord so that we could buy a smaller headphone cable.

In general. M40X's being called shit is pretty common, but calling SHP9500 bad is more of a hot take. As someone who spent a good minute exploring the budget range (like <200), I think they're pretty mediocre.

Creative Aurvana Live! (CAL!) is more like a semi-close/semi-open than anything actually labeled as a semi-open/semi-closed. They have no isolation whatsoever. Their bass can seem kind of bloated to more refined and way more expensive bass head options like TR-X00's, but they're criminally overpriced for how much you pay.

Another option I'm seriously shocked this subplebbit doesn't circle jerk are the Koss KSC75/Porta Pro's. They sound absolutely insane for how much they cost. I even preferred the KSC75's to the HD650's. The KSC75's are pretty neutral but still have a tight bass and decent mid/upper ranges. Porta Pro's are bassier and looser, and sound a lot more laid back, but still have insane resolution. They both do. They both also have a significantly wider sound stage than any of the HD6x0 options.

My daily driver is a KSC75 on a Porta Pro headband withthis as a cushion.

It's super comfortable.

Just a good set of headphones for around $100 CAD on Amazon?

I've owned Grado SR-60s. They're open backed, so you can hear surroundings better, but others can hear them as well. They're not the most comfortable, though.

For something small and light, I've owned both the Koss PortaPros. I've also used the similar Sennheiser PX-100s, but the only ones I'm seeing on Amazon.ca are overpriced. Anyway, good sounding, light headphones for workouts, walks and the like.

I've never owned a pair of AKG K240s, but they've been ubiquitous in studios for a long time. Well, at least the last time I was in a studio; it's been a while. Other popular ones are various Sennheisers like the HD280s and Shure SRH440s, but I'm not seeing them at least on Amazon Prime in Canada. If you'd like to look, here they are at Sweetwater in US prices HD280s and SRH440s.

Hopefully there's something there you like.

So for everyone who is not pleased in this thread,.. some of those style headphones definitely! were durable, more so than many modern ones. And for those that say you can not buy similar/that design headphones, not true. KOSS is famous for them,. and these KOSS are famously durable,.. All I am saying there is another possible answer than assuming it is survivorship bias or that OP is shitposting an item you can not buy. https://www.amazon.com/Koss-Porta-Pro-Headphones-Silver/dp/B00001P4ZH/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1521332597&sr=8-6&keywords=koss+headphones It also stands to reason that these type of units would last very long. The metal bracket/headband was almost impossible to break unlike many all plastic of very little metal designs these days. Often the wires were much thicker than of current affordable/cheap headphones. In practice, I found that with this style only thing that might go would be the foam pads (usually replace-able cheap) or if you were very unlucky the Jack, after years of use.
