Check out the Lenovo B590 i5. It has an i5 3230M processor, 6GB ram, 500GB HDD and a 15.6" matte (non-glare) 1366x768 screen with Win7. It weighs 5.5 pounds and is 1.3" thick.

If you want to economize a bit, you could check out the i3 version of the same laptop, but it has a less powerful processor and 2GB less than the first option. If you wanted it to last a while, we'd recommend getting the first choice.

If it's just for general use, the Lenovo B590 would be a good choice if you're stuck with using Windows 7. It's still got an i3. There are cheaper versions if you want to kick the price down further and don't think he will do anything remotely CPU intensive.

500 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive (plenty for most people's downloading)

15.6-Inch Screen, Integrated GPU (at least not a tiny screen, which most laptops in this price range are)

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (not W10 or Mac :P)

5-hour battery life (lol would he even unplug ever anyways?)

Also this laptop has bluetooth 4.0, HDMI for watching the game on big TV, media card reader thing for cameras or whatever. All the things a non-gaming normal person wants. In all fairness, you could probably run some basic games or turn based games on this like maybe Civ V with some graphics settings on low/medium or something.

However, I will suggest those two: Lenovo B590 and
Toshiba Satellite C55-A5245
They are both 1 generation older, but if the gym manager isn't that tech savvy, A PC that comes with windows 7 is probably better.
