So, I got rid of that low voltage regulator that was hard wired to that box, the cheap Amazon Amp I bought had a normal plug in 12v 3amp that I have plugged into the outlet. All the speaker around the house work. Here is the cheap amp I bought. http://amzn.com/B00ULRFQ1A

I havent upgraded all the other speakers yet. Just the base station and 1 room.

u/moshlyfe · 7 pointsr/Metalcore

don't get a Crosley. the sound quality is awful and the needles will scratch your records. don't get anything with built in speakers

I have an Audio Technica AT-LP60. You will need to buy speakers, a pre-amp, and speaker wire separately, however. Here are the links for my exact setup, which does really well for me:

http://www.amazon.com/Technica-AT-LP60-Automatic-Stereo-Turntable/dp/B008872SIO?th=1&psc=1

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006LW0WDQ/ref=pd_aw_fbt_23_img_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=07TNM6NMM0YNRV6JH45F

while this whole setup is about $30-$40 outside of your price range, it's well worth it.

The Lepy amplifier - https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00ULRFQ1A/ref=pd_aw_fbt_23_img_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=H5GJH4RDGYM655TC5FA6 - is small, sounds great (many audiophiles recommend it), and has a 3.5mm jack input so is perfect for a Chromecast Audio. You can just leave it on.

I have this amp, along with a set of Wharfedale Diamond bookshelf speakers.

I'd really recommend using a proper Chromecast Audio rather than an in-built solution: easy to swap out to something else when the time comes.

u/cbeeman15 · 6 pointsr/ZReviews

Is an amp needed in that price?
Look into either of thede speakers:

That's about as good of a low budget system as possible, while still being a foray into hobby/enthusiast audio equipment. Unless you want to look into used stuff. Going use can get you a really good set up for price but take more work to find but is hard to recommend.

u/Siegfried262 · 6 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

What about the Micca Covo-S?

Though you'd also need an amplifier with those. You could easily get by with a Lepai Amp though.

u/hack_tc · 5 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Yes, the amp powers...or more accurately, I would say, amplifies the sound going to the speakers. I'm pretty sure the one you listed does not include the power supply though. I would consider this one if your budget is that low. Adding a subwoofer is definitely not mandatory. I'm not familiar with the speakers you have, but that is probably going to be the first improvement you should consider later down the road.

u/dereklillard · 4 pointsr/Music

A "vinyl player" is referred to as a turntable or record player. I can't tell you what table to buy because I'm not that familiar with newer quality tables but I can tell you to avoid Crosley and sub-$100 players with USB built in. For not much more $ you can get a better item used. Also be sure to get something with a replaceable cartridge because you will need to replace it eventually. Unless your planning to DJ you can probably save a bit of $ by going belt drive as opposed to direct drive. If you have a local record store take a look at their used equipment. Also whoever is working there should have good advice as long as you tell them a price range. Keep in mind you'll need something to send the audio signal to as well. That will vary in cost. I use this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00ULRFQ1A/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1467417822&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=stereo+amplifier&dpPl=1&dpID=41phZQk-zFL&ref=plSrch. Some folks may think it's a bit of a joke but it satisfies my needs. It powers my speakers, fills my house with sound, and has an EQ.

u/whatdidshedo · 4 pointsr/buildapcsales

> Lepai (LP-2020A)

is this eqivalent since that one out of stock

u/StuckInBronze · 4 pointsr/buildapc

I agree, get a pair of the Fluance SX6 with an amp like the SMSL SA50 or the Lepy if you don't want to go over budget. This combination will blow anything else for 200 dollars out the water. You could add a subwoofer somewhere down the line as well.

u/jd101506 · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Honestly build your own set.

I took this: https://www.amazon.com/Lepy-LP-2024A-Amplifier-Stereo-Supply/dp/B00ULRFQ1A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478870107&sr=8-1&keywords=lepai+lp-2020a

And added in some older sony bookshelf speakers I had and it outperformed my old Creative/Logitech sets. I like the ability to adjust the bass/treble directly on the front, and I screwed the amp to the underside of my desk to be hidden, and I can still reach under and turn the audio up if need be. It also gives you the ability to connect whatever the hell speaker you want to it... Any two wire bookshelf/tower/desktop speaker you can find.

Things you'll need:

  • The amp or one like it
  • desktop speakers
  • speaker wire
  • the will to build it

I should have done this years ago instead of going through as many speaker setups as I have and not being happy with them. I have a 5.1 polk system for my TV that I pieced together, and I listen to most headphone audio through my HD595s or Klipsch s4i earbuds. Audio is pretty important and this setup was ideal for cost/quality.
u/lexpython · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

In the $20ish range, I have several of these. They're great for road trips, immensely improving the motel experience. I've also sacrificed a power cord so I can hook it up to a car battery, as it's 12 volt, so handy for car camping, too. Of course, you'll need speakers, but they aren't terribly expensive, either, and you can often find used ones at thrift stores. I keep a suitcase ready for travel with these and some rope lights, it's awesome.

u/homeboi808 · 3 pointsr/hometheater

You can either get a stereo reciver/amp and two normal speakers. Or, you can buy powered monitors (speakers that have an amp built in), here is one likely in your budget (they just came back in stock, no idea if they'll run out soon).

If you are looking to spend <$100, the same speaker company makes their Covo-S (very small form factor, but still better than a soundbar) and you'll need an amp that can do at least 40W combined, such as this, that amp isn't great at max volume, but should be good enough for a bedroom, you'll need something more expensive (or a proper home theater receiver, I got one that can do 75W/speaker for $50 at shopgoodwill.com) if for a big open living room.

After that it's just assorted HDMI cables, USB Extension cords, a computer and a partridge in a pear tree. I keep my computer outside of the cabinet in case I want to use it for other things and keep the heat out so my cables are long. The TVs don't generate much heat. And currently I just turn the TVs and computer on manually.

I built my own speaker grills out of foam board and acousticly transparent cloth.

u/x152 · 3 pointsr/AskBattlestations

You will need an amplifier like this.

That cable is fine, but there are cheaper alternatives on amazon (amazon basics wire I recommend for starters).

You need to hook up your PC to the amplifier through RCA or 3.5mm jack. Then hook up the speaker wire to your speakers.

u/awesomecvl · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Just an amp of some sort... I use this for my two 4ohm speakers and it gets decently loud. You could spend more and get a much better amp but I was on a budget so it works about as well as a $30 amp should. You would also need some speaker wire

Edit; these are 8ohm so they would not be extremely loud but they would work at moderate volumes

u/SalaciousB · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

You need an amplifier for those speakers.

The absolute cheapest you'd be able to get away with is this one which is roughly the same as the one at the top of this list from the sidebar.

Then you would run the RCA from the TT to the amplifier and the speaker cables from the amp through the sub, ie Amp>Sub High Level Input>Sub High Level Output>Micca Speakers.

You can then adjust the volume/crossover on the sub to fine tune the sound. I had a similar setup but with Dayton B652s

I hope this helps.

u/BeardedAlbatross · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

What do you mean by "OOO"? This is it, right?

EDIT: Ok, I see what you mean. Yeah the 2020A+ has ben replaced. They still make the 2024 though. I'd go for the 2020TI which is the latest revision of the 2020A+. Keep your expectations in check with these ultra cheap T amps.

u/e39 · 2 pointsr/RetroPie

The config file is at /boot/config.txt.

By adding:

u/psychojeremy · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

You'll have to check craigslist or something. You need a phono preamp, an amp, and speakers.

Alternatively, you'll need a phono preamp, and active monitors

or an amp with phono input, and speakers.

something like this, and some junk goodwill speakers, and speaker wire are already over your budget.

You'll also need rca cables and speaker wire. This will be above your budget and wont be very good. Pyle is a POS. If you double your budget you can have a much, much, much better sounding system.

The bs22s are 89.00$ right now and are a steal. That plus a goodwill amp with phono input will be far superior to the lepai pyle and dayton audio.

Local used is your best bet.

u/DZCreeper · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Ditch the optical drive. You don't need one.

Swap the Corsair CX power supply for an EVGA G2 or Corsair RMx. Much higher quality and longer warranty.

Get a SSD, any modern computer should have at least a 240GB model. A-Data SP550 is entry level and $60.

Get a 2x8 kit of RAM. Dual channel RAM is faster and it does make a difference in some games.

Get a keyboard and mouse that aren't junk. If you plan on gaming always go with wired and not the cheapest stuff you can find.

All HDMI cables are the same, go pick up something half the price.

Speakers that don't list basic stats like frequency range and sustained power are garbage. Get a $30 amplifier and some bookshelf speakers instead.

https://www.amazon.com/Lepy-LP-2024A-Amplifier-Stereo-Supply/dp/B00ULRFQ1A - The Amazon Basics 16 gauge wire and Micca MB42 speakers listed on that page make a great combo.

You don't need that thermal paste. The stock Intel cooler has it pre-applied and aftermarket coolers include a tube already.

u/tielknight · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Example : https://www.amazon.com/Lepy-LP-2024A-Amplifier-Stereo-Supply/dp/B00ULRFQ1A

They connector via a RCA to Audio Cable like this

You wire the speakers to the amp and use the RCA to Audio cable to plug it into your computer.

u/djscsi · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

What kind of speakers are they?

This will work for 2 small speakers (say 6" or smaller single woofer).

This will work for 2 small speakers with a small sub.

There are better options out there, these are questionable quality, but if you just want cheap+easy, this will work.

u/Captain_of_Reddit · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Awesome! Turns out my local best buy has an open box that comes out around $26, with tax. So guess Im getting that. Thanks for the advice!

Also super quick last question -

If I get those Insignia speakers and this amp - Lepy LP-2024A
, then would I need anything else to get all this set up? I plan on using these with my PC.

Thanks!

u/regreddit · 2 pointsr/DJs

i assume you are in the UK, that's why i posted that one. If you shop at Amazon, they have hundreds of LePai, a popular class T/D Chinese amp that will do 20-30 watts. Hi, I saw a suggestion to buy this micca speakers. So here are my questions.

  • Do I need to buy this and what it is for? Lepy AMP

  • Do I need to buy speaker wires if I am only going to use it for echo dot or my PC?

    Thanks!
u/slippery_salmons · 1 pointr/pcgaming

Audio Problem I'm having, hoping someone knows the answer. Six months ago I bought an Amp Lepy LP-2024A and Micca MB42X speakers. When I would be on my computer with the amp on but not listening to anything, the speakers would make a whistling/swirling/popping/static/white noise. If I played any sort of sound through the computer, I couldn't here the noise anymore.

A month or so ago I moved the MB42X's to my living room and put a pair of Micca COVO-S speakers on the Lepy amp. The noises are still happening, but I'm noticing them more now, and I can sometimes here it over music or games that I'm playing.

Is it just a bad amp? I also have an SMSL DAC+Headphone amp powering some Philips headphones. The headphones do not make any noise.

u/BassRatT · 1 pointr/audiophile

I'm currently using this as a dac and headphone amp and this as my speaker amp. As a side question, will the SMSL power mad dog headphones reasonably well? (just bought a pair).

u/Verb_Rogue · 1 pointr/headphones

Awesome. I ended up going with this guy: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ULRFQ1A?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00

Just grabbed that one because it was budget-friendly. Can you tell whatever I will need to go with this? (separate cable, plugs, etc)

u/ZeosPantera · 1 pointr/ZReviews

Yeah you have a C/Sub output so you can get a 3.5mm to RCA cable and plug that into a T-amp like the Lepai and wire it to a single speaker. Unfortunately cheap speakers only come in pairs. Cheapest speakers are the CovoS and use one. I won't match the quality of the A2 but is small. If you want a dedicated center channel the cheapest one is the Mb42c the unit with the crossover is more than double the price.

I'm near Philadelphia and my price range is $500-$650. I'm hoping to make sure my beginner setup will work before I pull the trigger(s). Thanks in advance!

Planning to buy the below:

Fluance RT81 - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F2EXIFM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A1WPEQCN6WJKZG&psc=1

I'm wondering if there's that big of a difference between the sound I could get from the Yamaha amp verses something like this Lepy (https://www.amazon.com/Lepy-LP-2024A-HA-LP-2024A-Stereo-Amplifier/dp/B00ULRFQ1A/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=lepy&qid=1554556598&s=gateway&sr=8-3)

Also, if the Yamaha amp has an output of 100w and the speakers recommended power is 15w-75w, does this make them incompatible?

Thanks again.

Heh, this is always the kind of thread that gets met with derision when the OP says he doesn't wanna spend $1000. These bookshelf speakers will be a definite upgrade on your TV speakers.

For the amp, I would strongly recommend you look at Craigslist and you will be able to find a stereo amp from Sony or Yamaha for 50 bucks. Alternatively take a look at Lepai amp:

You could go with something like these:

Dayton speakers

Lepai amp

It's not perfect but still better than any "PC speakers" you'll get for the same price. Plus you can always change the amp or speakers as you choose, going modular with audio (more home-theater style) offers so many more options.

What's your budget for headphones/speakers? A relatively cheap, but quality option would be to pair these Dayton B652 with a cheap amp like this. I got this setup about 4 years ago and they still sound great albeit you'll get distortion at higher volume. They get surprisingly loud before distortion though.
For more in depth reviews/analysis, I reccomend checking out Zeos. Used his guide when i picked out my speakers.

Should I just get this combo of Dayton B652 and t amp? Or would it be better to get this Lepy 2024A amp and a set of bookshelf speakers like these monoprice ones? This is an unbeatable deal for these speakers in my opinion. They're 50% off basically. Sure the Pioneers are better on paper, but I've heard both (and the Miccas) and I actually prefer these Insignias.

Couple these speakers with a cheap amp, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Lepy-LP-2024A-Amplifier-Stereo-Supply/dp/B00ULRFQ1A/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1457999505&sr=8-7&keywords=speaker+amplifier

I would look at this setup.

JBL Loft 40 $50, Lepai $30 and some speaker wire. This is about the lowest you're going to get for something that is a step up from computer speakers.

This is the one I have in the shop. Speakers could be anything...if it were me, I would honestly try goodwill and just bring the T-amp with you and you phone and ask them to let you test them. You probably would get a pretty good deal on something nicer and larger than you could buy online.

So, The interfaces you referenced are NOT amps. they are interfaces that provide line level outputs that will go into a seperate amp. When you connect the speakers to an amp, both sides will be the bare wire clamps usually (back of speaker & back of amp)

You need an amplifier. Unless his record player is one that already has speaker terminals built in, which are very rare, you need something that will take that RCA connection, amplify it, and output it on speaker terminals. The amp is how you can control the volume. The cheapest amp I would reccomend is this one on Amazon.

But that is a bit "below" these speakers. I think you should plan on spending close to $100 on an amp for them. If not more.

I just found two amps on amazon: this and this. Am I on the right track here?

Ah, so one of these. Plus it's so much smaller. Thanks!

You want this: http://www.amazon.com/Lepy-LP-2024A-Amplifier-Stereo-Supply/dp/B00ULRFQ1A?ie=UTF8&keywords=mini%20amplifier&qid=1462196560&ref_=sr_1_5&sr=8-5

and a set of car speakers or marine grade speakers (water resistant). Trust me - it will be FAR better than repurposing old computer speakers. You can run this off a 12v lawn mower battery as well.

for $150, your only (realistic) option is gonna be a portable speaker that you move to the room you want. you won't get a all-in-one multi-room setup like SONOS for that budget (at least that I know of)

you could buy a few speakers, plus this amp and this speaker selector. the downside is that you'd need to run cables from the selector to each speaker, which would be a hassle, and might look bad if you don't take the time to hide the cables. additionally, that amp is good for a single pair of speakers on a desk, but over long runs of cable and multiple speakers, the amp will run of power very quickly. that being said, you could connect a Chrome Audio to the amp and control it via your phone/computer. and you could always upgrade the speakers and amp and improve the system as you wish

so yeah, either a portable speaker (pick any, they're all the same really), or bookshelf speakers+amp+select+chromecast

First off, you didn't list a chassis. What are you going to put all of this in?

Second, you could have a completed amp for less than half the price, when you consider shipping and the chassis.

So, do you have a particular goal in mind for doing this DiY rather than just buying something off the shelf?

Realistic was a brand produced exclusively by Radio Shack. This is definitely a passive speaker where you need to plug an amplifier to it. Going to guess it was for a potable HiFi system, hence the handle. If you're patient enough, I saw the same Realistic logo being used in a 1955 Radio Shack catalog repository here. You could use it with modern electronics if you get a small low-power amp for it much like one here.

I'd get these with an inexpensive amp like this

u/TheFakeNoob · 1 pointr/vinyl

If you get powered speakers you won't need a stereo receiver. Most receivers just act as a phono pre-amp (if they have a phono in) and a speaker amp. So if you have a table w/ a built in pre-amp you could just connect it directly to powered speakers(internal amp) and you'd have a setup that can play music.

As for recommendations on speakers I'm not an expert on powered ones myself but you can probably just look around. If you want to go passive speakers you can get a cheap amp and then passive speakers. For cheap passives these are usually commonly bought

I've got a pretty basic, cheap setup. AT LP60 and a cheap digital amp to two mediocre speakers. For now, it works.

I also have my computer audio output going to the amp... But there's some issues since I don't have an AV receiver of any sort. I've got the turntable input via RCA and PC via 3.5mm.

What kinds of audio setups would be good that would allow me to switch between two inputs?
