If you want to work to a budget LG are doing some good value ultrawides:

https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481975939&sr=8-1&keywords=29UM68-P

2560x1080 29 inch. Been great with my fury x. There is also a 34 inch available for a similar price.

u/noladixiebeer · 6 pointsr/buildapcsales

Personally, I think this is a better deal. $100 cheaper.

https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1468335955&sr=1-1&keywords=LG+29UM68-P

At 34 inch for 1080p ultrawide, that DPI isn't good. I would recommend 34 inch 1440p ultrawide, but those are exorbitantly expensive.

I would save $100 and go with 29 inch 1080p ultrawide.

u/devisadev · 5 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

You're not going to get 144hz Ultrawide for ~$300. Or rather, if you do, please let me know. The only ones I know of are the the Acer Z35 and the BenQ XR3501, both running near $1000 after tax.

If you will be connecting via DisplayPort and can deal with 75hz and 2560x1080, here are two decent options right at the $300 mark:

AOC and LG have cheap FreeSync monitors:

1) The cheapest: AOC G2460VQ6
24", 1980x1080, 75 hz, TN, 170$
FreeSync range: 48-75hz
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AOC-G2460VQ6-24-Inch-LED-Monitor/dp/B015510R4M

2) High refresh rate: AOC G2460PF

FreeSync range: 35-144 hz
http://www.amazon.com/AOC-G2460PF-24-Inch-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B01BV1XBEI

3) Cheapest ultrawide: LG 29UM68-P
29", 2560 x 1080, 75 hz, IPS, 350$
FreeSync range: 40-75 hz

My personal choice will be the LG + RX 480 / 490.
Edit: That LG's FreeSync range might be expandable to 32-80 hz (LFC sweetspot), source:

Given that we had that discussion in the prior thread I will show you a build as well. The one you got is not bad, but I think it is possible to improve it a bit.

Ryzen 5 1600, for the best compromise between performance in games and other applications, and performance and price. It comes with a proper stock cooler, no need to buy an aftermarket cooler. ATX-sized mainboard in a case with a window, HDD + SSD. 16GB of fast ram (gives Ryzen a boost), and there is a good GTX 1060 that is cheaper currently than usual. The psu is high quality, and has enough wattage for overclocking later on.

I recommend https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Mechanical-Enthusiasts-Backlighting-Double-shot/dp/B01MA6O13L, a real mechanical keyboard. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826816067 is a nice mouse, of course there are many alternatives.

I'd take https://www.amazon.com/LG-25UM56P-25-Class-UltraWide/dp/B0170TSYGK as a display, it is ultrawide, cheap, looks quite nice and has an IPS panel. https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW would be a bigger alternative, that also looks nicer with its stand and slim bezel, but is a bit above the ideal budget.
u/LethalBacon · 3 pointsr/AverageBattlestations

A bit of a budget setup, but I am finally extremely happy with it. PC running R7 370 and 1090T. Still handles most games fine on med-high, but hopefully upgrading in about a year.

After the picture was taken I moved the mount about 8 inches to the left. There is a bracket in the middle of my desk that prevents it from being perfectly centered. Any suggestions for what to do next? Mouse upgrade is probably most practical - I've been using a $20 'gaming' mouse for about a year.

Monitor - Found out after I got it that if you keep an eye out it occasionally drops to just over $200.

My dream setup would be the 5k in the middle with an ultrawide next to it with my current 23in acer vertical and to the side for reading Since its matte.

Money is no issue widescreen

cheaper model.

And I would put them all on stands. Even the Imac if you can.

u/Gonadventure · 3 pointsr/buildapc

I've been using the lg 29UM68-P. It's cheaper than the one you have listed and it's an ips/freesync/75Hz/5ms response time. Just an option.

u/skitthecrit · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

If you do go 1080p, try to find a 2560x1080p Ultrawide, the 1070 does very well at that resolution, and you should be able to get very good framerates. Here is an 29" IPS LG monitor that is 2560x1080 and in your price range ($250). It looks like it can get up to 75hz as well, so that will be a nice extra over the normal 60hz monitors.

u/postfuturology · 3 pointsr/Amd
u/PxlWolf · 3 pointsr/Miscreated

I'm using this monitor, but there is a new version for practically the same price. When I bought it I felt I was being frivolous, but after I set up I instantly felt no remorse.

u/LBGW_experiment · 3 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Well, you have a few options. Depending on your price range, you can go with 2560x1080 which come in 25" (don't bother), 29" (sweet spot for ppi, same as 24"/25" 16:9 monitors), 34", or 35" (specifically the z35 for g-sync or xz35 for freesync). Benefit of 2560x1080 is being able to generally saturate the max refresh rate of your monitor, given the gpu you have and are going to buy. Only downside I can think of is with making such a long-term purchase as a monitor, you're "only" getting 1080p, but I don't really see that as an issue as others might. Also, most of these monitors only go up to 75hz, only the very high end cards reach any higher, and those are usually either g-sync for the acer x34 which goes to 100hz @ 1440p or the acer (x)z35 which goes to I think 144hz @ 1080p.

There are also 3440x1440 monitors and those usually only come in 34". I can't think of any other sizes, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, do you want curved or not? I don't have an ultrawide but I've been researching them for a couple years now and I think it comes down to the size of the monitor. I think 25" and 29" ultrawides are fine for being flat, since they're only so wide but once you get into 34" territory, it would be such a large screen that it is beneficial to have the curve, which is pretty much what the market really offers: no curved 25" or 29" and most, if not all, 34" are curved. The curve helps keep the same distance from each edge of the screen to your eyes the same. These do come at a higher price, though.

Prices for each respective size

u/MrWally · 3 pointsr/Amd

That's good to know. I was basing my opinion off of a few reddit posts and LinusTechTip's video on the LG 29''. He felt like it wasn't quite large enough.

I feel like if I can get an LG 29" (preferably this one) on sale at Black Friday or sooner, then that will make my decision.

Thanks for your comment, it helped a lot. I haven't talked to anyone who actually uses the card I have with the monitor (or a similar one) that I'm looking at.

u/TehLordOfPancakes · 2 pointsr/outrun

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B9IDLAW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, its a more budget focused ultrawide. I love it, it's amazing for productivity. Plus I bought it for its color accuracy

u/poperatwork · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Alright, well - You could push frames higher than 60 on some less graphically intense games, but nothing like GTA V.

I think you would be just fine with a much cheaper monitor, something in the $150-$200 range, but if you have the money to spend, maybe something like this would be cool:

https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525796551&sr=8-1&keywords=lg+29+inch

It may start to struggle at full 2560x1080 resolution in the future, but you can always just bring games back to a regular 1920x1080 resolution. It will just have black bars on the sides, but your screen size would be about that of a normal 24 inch monitor at that point. Keep in mind this monitor does go on sale for less than this price fairly regularly I am pretty sure, so you may want to wait and scope it out for a couple weeks before buying if you decide to go for it.

My girlfriend has this monitor and she uses it for graphics design and gaming and loves it. Again, you can save money here and get a regular 24 inch 1080p monitor, but if you have the money to spend why not spend it on a cool ultrawide experience.

There are higher priced 1080p monitors with 144hz that may also be nice, but I don't know how well you will be able to push those frames on a 1060 6gb.

u/sonsofaureus · 2 pointsr/AskBattlestations

I don't have that exact monitor, but I have these LG ultrawides with a RX580.
I'm not a heavy gamer, but these seem to run Diablo and Civ just fine, and the occasional Doom, PUBG, Metal Gear and some more graphics intensive games, without the flickering issues described previously. The monitor specs say Freesync, but at 75Hz refresh rates, I don't know how meaningful that is.

u/GunFinX · 2 pointsr/nvidia

https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

This is a 29inch freesync monitor(2560x1080) probably just about the best you will find for the price. Gsync unfortunately adds a lot to the price of monitors.

u/ItsDani1008 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

After a fairly short Amazon search I found this: https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW. It may not be the best monitor but its not curved and looks about as wide if not wider then the one on the picture.

You shouldn't always just look at this but just look around on multiple websites and find a monitor that suits you

Ever thought of Ultrawide?
Really amazing for being productive, gorgeous on games that support it (as long as you can deal with some games that don’t and have a black box to fill it up) and has FreeSync.

I’ve been browsing for monitors too and this one just caught my attention. $299.99

The best one I could find was This one 27in, 144hz, 1ms response time, $260 dollars less if you get one used. But at that price you also could get some 29in ultrawides, they just wouldnt be as good

Here
are some ultrawide examples

Here are some more expensive ones

u/lwhitit · 2 pointsr/Monitors

I am partial to ultrawide myself but be warned 1080p on a screen over 27 inch can be too pixelated for some. All the games you listed support 21:9 and you will get much better frame rates with your current card vs 1440p. I wouldn't look at the UM67 personally. In the $500 or under range this is a better option since it the newer model and it also has freesync.

As for 1440p recommendation this would be cheaper and also have freesync.

u/Pantzzzzless · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

I have this one, and it's amazing. Obviously most media isn't in an ultrawide format, but if you want to browse while watching something there is more than enough screen real estate to do it.

I really like this guy's digital paintings and concept art- http://fengzhudesign.com/

he does most of them in native film ratios, so it will fit nicely if I use the full-res versions he puts up occasionally. I'll also hopefully paint something of my own that I can use... a big part of why I was so excited to switch to 21:9 is digital painting. I've been doing it on my 16:9 for a while as I've been learning, but a bit more space would be really nice.

First games I'm going to play will probably be Squad or DOOM, as that's what I've been playing recently. 'Steep' will probably be pretty cool too if it supports 21:9. I don't know how much longer that's in open beta, but hopefully for at least another couple weeks. I'll probably get back into ARMA3 as well. I play Dirt Rally and Assetto Corsa every so often as well, so a wider screen will really be nice for that until the second generation of VR is out. I decided I'd prefer to wait for gen2 before I take the dive into either Rift or Vive.

$250 right now for prime day. I feel like it may be a good compromise. Ultra wide for that experience in battlefield, but also 75hz with free sync. Since I doubt I will ever really be getting 144fps in a game like battlefield anyway without paying out the arse.

I feel like with this and a sapphire nitro 480 (for ~$500 total) I could probably play close to max and get 75fps. I know people rave about free sync and g-sync, so I wonder if I would notice/it be worth it.

Thanks so much for your help. I just spent a few hours scrubbing through a couple retailers & sites. You were absolutely right about the 27" displays (among other things), the 4k unit was only about 12% more in price. In the end I just ordered:
21:9 34" 1440 + 16:9 27" 2160

I have exactly this monitor + GTX 1070 and the combo was build with the same reason in mind: work and gaming. I've never been happier. Here in Brazil prices are a little bit crazy so, have in mind that this monitor was the better I could get with the money I had... Nevertheless, I am able to maintain 60+ fps in all the modern games I have (TW3, Fallout 4, MK10, Wolfenstein: Old Blood and so on), when 75 fps is possible, I use a custom resolution+refresh to keep the monitor accordly. For working it is a killer, so much room to open a lot of stuff (I am a computer engineer) and manipulate a lot of stuff, feels just right, never going back to 16:9. NEVAH!

About the monitor itself: Really good black/colors/contrast, there are functions to split the screen in a sh*t ton of ways and its design is very clean and sober.

For posterity:

I ended up going with an ultrawide, despite the lack of service on the past of some content distributors. Specifically, the LG 29UM68 29-inch 21:9 UltraWide IPS Monitor.

Since the LG 25UM58-P 25-Inch 21:9 UltraWide IPS Monitor was already at my place, I had an emotional reaction to the styling, menu system and single joystick control on the middle of the underside of the monitor, and didn’t really want to go for another manufacturer. I had to counter this bias with a ton of research, and ended up going to Fry’s and Best Buy to check out monitors in person.

It was at this point I realized I could get the LG 29” 29UM68 for $250 at Fry’s, or price match at Best Buy, and there was no 27” panel that came close to what I wanted. So I brought home the 29UM60 (they didn’t have the 68, which has 2 HDMI/1DP ports, as opposed to the 60 which has 1HDMI/1DP), but I knew I’d be testing it and returning it for a *68 online at the same price.

Once I had the 29” widescreen at home, I realized it was exactly what I wanted and for the right price, and so I found a deal at MicroCenter (still available) and Amazon (although that one ended today, sadly) for the 29UM68 at $250, and will be returning the 29UM60 I got at Best Buy.

The personal drawbacks, which are all acceptable to me, include imperfect blacks when watching movies. This is due in part to the inherent qualities of IPS panels including factors like light bleeding, although it is minimal on the 29UM60 and your brain almost immediately ignores it, unless you’re color correcting, etc. (go brain). Will try to test the 29UM60 and the 29UM68 side by side when the 68 arrives. I’ve also heard from an unreliable source that the 68 is am updated version of the 67 that has improved backlight bleed. I can not confirm this at this time, but hey, information. Also, the older 67 is supposed to have 8 bit native color, as opposed to the 68’s 6bit+FRC, but I have not jumped into research on this at all. There is also apparently a 69 version that appears on the Newegg site, which is an updated 67 (as the 29UM68 is the next model of the 29UM58, I postulate), but I have not begun research on the 69 either.

In terms of personal usage. I’ve realized I can live my life finding workarounds to window-boxing (which is black bars around all sides) on services like Netflix, Amazon Prime video, etc, until these services catch up to service Ultrawide users. Also, pillar-boxing (black bars on the sides, E.g. watching a TV show on your ultrawide monitor) is totally fine, and I, at least, adjusted to it as normal very quickly.

Finally, 2560x1080 is a great resolution. I’m powering it with the super budget rig above, and can play story-focused games on it like the The Witcher 3, with cinematic immersion. To be fair, this won’t work for many gamers, especially those who have seen the light of 144hz. Also the resolution is close to the DPI of 1920x1080 on a 24” monitor, which I find comfortable and have enjoyed for the past 6 years.

Conclusion

Coming from a filmmaker, it’s almost a philosophical alignment with widescreen 21:9 as normal/native, over TV’s 16:9 as normal/native, that truly motivated my decision as much as the crazy $250 deal.

Aspect Ratio P.S.

Technically the screen resolution is not 21:9, it’s 64:27 (or 2.370:1). Link goes to wiki article as a jump off point, if you want to learn more about the technical aspects and history of aspect ratios.

Nvidia uses G Sync, but a G Sync UltraWide is out if your price range. This LG would be your best bet under $300 for a single but if you say you wanna run double then 2 of these would work

u/hackney_rejects · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

It's down to personal preferences really. The advantages is its cheap, ultrawide, IPS and freesync. I does productivity task a lot so this kind of monitor really suits me.

The disadvantage is it wasnt 144hz, because that'll obviously will cost $600 or more for this kind of monitor. Usually those ultrawide with 144hz also come with curve screen, which is really my cup of tea at all. So due to you prefer 144hz, i guess that AOC monitor suits your need better because i think your main use of computer is for gaming.

Here's some suggestion. I'm not familiar with other brand except the most common one among the gamers such as Asus ROG or AON.

Yeah true. I was relying on it maybe going on sale during black friday but CCC isn't showing it as getting any big sales ever in its life. I may just snag the LG 29UM68-P, since I'm not really interested in spending $800+ on a monitor I mostly won't be playing games on.

I find gaming at 21:9 to much more rewarding and immersive. The extra peripheral vision is addicting once you are used to it and makes 16:9 feel cramped. - example of in game FOV

u/insurmntable · 1 pointr/Monitors

Hey, I have the exact same card and also planning to upgrade from my regular old 1080p 60hz BenQs. I have done quite a lot of research and have come to the conclusion, that starting from around 350$ adaptive sync is essentially a must-have if planning on any kind of gaming and futureproofing. As far as I know there are no additions needed to use FreeSync other than plug it in and turn it on from the monitor settings besides connecting your monitor via DisplayPort (or DVI aswell?).

In my opinion the best price to performance value monitor is the last one you mentioned, after weeks of searching I have not found anything close to these specs and that pricepoint. The only caveat with that particular model seems to be that the stand does not have a height adjustment or the VESA mounting points. Also the panel is a TN, rather than an IPS, so if the latter is preferred, add another ~100$ to the monitor's price and get either this:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XF270HU-27-inch-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B0173PEX34/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468906554&sr=8-1&keywords=xf270hu

or this:

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-MG279Q-Screen-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B00ZOO348C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468906650&sr=8-1&keywords=MG279Q

One other possibility for TN screens is the BenQ XL2730Z, which is ~80$ more, but has a sturdy stand, height adjustment and VESA mounting points:

https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-XL2730Z-Monitor-Resolution-FreeSync/dp/B00TUK9D9K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468907000&sr=8-1&keywords=xl2730z

If you're adamant about the 300$ range, you will probably have to choose 2 of 3 from FreeSync/144Hz/1440p. I have seen people recommending this:

https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2401-DisplayPort-FreeSync-Technology/dp/B01A0ZRR50/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468907327&sr=8-1&keywords=XG2401

or the LG you mentioned:

https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1468881176&sr=1-2&keywords=ultrawide+lg+29

Also when updating I am planning on still using my 24" 1080p one and possibly my 22" beside it aswell. The upgrade to 1440p should be quite noticeable aswell, particularly if going for a 144hz FreeSync model. The PPI will stay roughly the same, but there is more screen real estate.

If anyone has any information about any upcoming 1440p 144Hz FreeSync monitors or if I missed a particularly good one, then let me know aswell, thanks.

Hi everyone! I am trying to replace my Asus MX299Q with something that has VESA wall-mount capability. I am looking for an ultrawide 1080P monitor somewhere between 29" and 34", ideally as close to or under $500. I am currently a law student so I will be doing a lot of document editing and reading along with some gaming (Overwatch in particular.)

Here are some of the options I've found. I am very much open to anything you would highly recommend, whether they are listed below or not! Thank you so much and I hope you enjoyed a wonderful weekend!

u/kliff0rd · 1 pointr/Monitors

I was looking at this, which seems reasonable, since I have Prime.

u/dannyd1999 · 1 pointr/Amd

Well for $250 there's not many 1440p options to go for so your best bet is an ultrawide IPS if you can sacrifice the 144hz. https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474659083&sr=8-1&keywords=freesync+ips

People have reported being able to successfully overclock it to 75hz if you wish to do that. Seems like a nice monitor to me, I haven't seen it in person but judging by what they're saying the colours on it are great.

Stand looks a little bit flimsy to me though. I'd get a VESA mount.

u/labratdream · 1 pointr/Amd

Add 80$ extra and get this https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1519603952&sr=8-2&keywords=lg+29um58
Trust me 25 inch ultrawide is like 22 inch classic monitor. Also you will get 15hz extra with the model above and freesync.

u/Noobefloob · 1 pointr/buildapc

OP, you should really reconsider your reasoning, as this guy speaks the truth :P 25 inches is very, very small for a 21:9 screen. It is actually rather uncomfortable to open 2 browser windows side by side even for basic multitasking, as the real estate is barely better than a 20 inch 16:9.

If you are really set on the 25 inch, try going into a local store and seeing one in person, I think you will find the vertical height a bit off-putting once you see it.

29" is the size I would most definitely recommend, being equivalent to the popular 24" 16:9, but extended. This monitor:
https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW
Is one of the best in the range you can buy. Unlike the 25" version you were considering, this one also runs at 75hz (and also has freesync, but that's not really useful since you have a 1060). So for the size premium, and the bonus refresh rate, it is a very well justified yet small price increase over the 25".

Hope you consider some of this OP!

u/resbou · 1 pointr/buildapc

I was looking at this one. I've got Amazon prime and feel comfortable purchasing from there. This has FreeSync though, that isn't going to do me any good if I have a 1070 is it? https://smile.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_1?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1484887171&sr=8-1&keywords=21%3A9&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011

u/thecolonelofk · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

You'll hear a bunch of people talking about how either 29" isn't worth it as an ultrawide, and similarly that 1080 vertical is too small for it, but I think that's nonsense. 29" 1080p vertical is the only way you should have either a 1080 or a 29" ultrawide. 25" is way too small, and 1440x3440 is way too dense. Thus, my recommendation is this LG 29UM68-P.

A GTX 1070 is usually thought of as a 1440p 60hz GPU for Ultra on most games, so it'll depend if you're looking for a 1080x2560 or 1440x3440. 1080x2560 is easily within the wheelhouse of a 1070. 1440 is probably pushing it and you'll need to drop some settings.
