Maybe try using your current monitor with the new one to see if you reap any real benefits from having a second monitor. Some people love it, some find it's a waste.

If you're looking for the best compromise between a good gaming monitor while having much better image quality that TN panels, I really love this monitor. Works perfectly as "G-sync compatible" if you have an Nvidia card.

As somebody who spent the last few weeks researching this. There is no perfect 1440p monitor at that price point. There will always be some concession you have to make, whether its refresh rate, panel type, response time...you have to choose what matters to you most.

The LG-32K650-BF is what I ended up getting. It's a 32 inch VA panel, so better color, and viewing angles than a TN panel but a slightly worse response time. Its size can be an issue too if you have to sit very close to your monitor. It's 1440p, 144Hz, Freesync (Works just fine with my 2070s) I've been very pleased with it so far. I picked it up for $300, It seems to be available at that price quite often, but at the moment it's listed at $449.

Most of the monitors here are free sync and I would say have good implementations however I will include a Gsync category.

I would not recommend 4k for the 2080. It would be able to run games around 60 fps at 4k however refresh rate will make things more enjoyable. Also, 4k high refresh rate monitors are currently very expensive.

For playing games that don't require the fastest response times this monitor was great when I had it. Best back light bleed control, not curved, and a great picture super great black. I got rid of it for a faster TN panel since I'm a sweaty wannabe, but I do miss it. IMO though if pushing past $200 is an issue, a second 1080p monitor isn't a bad choice especially at 24 inches. It's all relative and don't feel like you need to buy something that isn't financially responsible.

Thanks for the detailed response. I primarily game on PC, which is why I decided to upgrade my video card to a 2070 Super and get a better monitor to match it. But stupidly I didn't realize until today that the PS4 doesn't output 1440p.

The new monitor I'm getting (this one) does indeed have HDMI 2.0 ports, meaning a PS4 Pro would be downscaling 4K to 1440p, rather than upscaling 1080p to 1440p. Which I'm learning is better because the ratio of pixel density between 4K to 2K is neater than 2K to 1080p.

But yeah, since I primarily got the new monitor for PC gaming, I didn't think through how that would affect playing on the PS4. And I thought the mclassic could make up the difference.

I suppose that video card would be good for 4K gaming as well, just not at ultra-everything settings. But I'd also be losing out on those higher refresh rates. The 4K monitors I've looked at all seem to be locked at 60hz. So buying a 2K monitor at 1440p/144hz seems like a better deal. I think? I don't even know anymore. I don't game competitively or anything, so I'm not even sure how much a high refresh rate matters. I didn't even intend to spend as much as I have already.

What I might do is stick with everything I've done so far, but use my old 1080p monitor solely to game with separately on my PS4. And just not get the mclassic thing at all.

I ended up returning the monitor, I wasn't too big of a fan of the curve tbh, and I couldnt really see a difference from my 27" 120hz 1080p monitor. Instead I went with the LG 32GK650F-B which I bought for about 300 from Amazon warehouse. I just wanted something big which made me go "wow, that looks like an upgrade." Go LG. Nano IPS or VA. LG also has software to split the screen into sections ie if you did 3 sections you could do chat/alerts on each side of the 2560x1440 portion. While also having a high end visual panel for production work afterwards.

I would suggest the LG 32GK650F-B as an alternative being a 32in 1440p 144hz display, the 2080S has plenty of power for it and would be overkill for any 1080p display.

As for cases I have a Lian Li PC O11D XL that I have been really happy with. Plenty of room for water cooling and wide enough to fit any card you can put a waterblock on.

I plan on getting a 1440p 144hz monitor next.

I have an ultrawide 2560x1080 and I love it. But I record gameplay and it's a pain in the dick to edit it with. I also can't stand when a game doesn't support ultrawide.

Anyone have any good suggestions on monitors? This is the one im currently looking at

Oh yeah that's a very nice monitor. Too expensive for a lot of peoples budget though. This is the one I've personally tested and plan on getting soon. It's actually got very good colors for a VA panel, and it's got freesync as well.

Just to give you an idea of the great monitors you can get if you wait for a deal, I got this one on July 15th when it dropped from $500 to $300. Microcenter dropped the price as well as Amazon, so I just drove to Microcenter and picked one up there for the same price. Great contrast (as you can see here at rtings) and excellent response time/blur for a VA panel.

I definitely recommend you check out the gaming monitors reviews at rtings. They judge really harshly, so anything above a 7.5 is pretty good. For example, you might consider one of these for under $290:
