Not sure about the 50% off, as it's usually around < $65 on amazon. Still cheaper though.

Hello hopefuls, lurkers, and alumni! Rather than give each video a critique I'm just going to list some tips that will help everyone in the long run. These tips do not apply to any single person in particular and every one of them can be used to improve a performance in some way shape or form, those who have a mastery in all of them tend to go far.

  1. Overlay Your Videos - Find a good quality version of your song that fits the theme, and edit your video in an video editing program (I use Windows Movie Maker for example) so the audio from your video is muted and the music is what plays over the footage. This has been a staple since week 5 of season 1 and is an absolute must if you want to do well.

  2. Camera Quality - Now not everyone can afford an amazing camera ready to make Hollywood quality videos, I understand that. However if your camera can't keep up with you moving slowly, it's not going to be keeping up with your mouth either. I personally filmed my first few videos of season 1 with this before upgrading to this and then finally recently to this. You don't need to have the most amazing camera in the world but you do need one that is going to capture your performance in a quality that lets people see you werk it.

  3. Emoting - Close your eyes, listen to your song, then listen to it again, then listen to it again, then listen to it again. Reread the lyrics, then reread them again. Get a real understanding of the song you want to perform and feel it out. Nothing causes a disconnect more than someone doing backflips and pirouettes to Natural Woman, and nobody wants to be the Kenya Michaels of that situation. However, on the other hand. You don't want to be completely still during an upbeat song that you can work the house down. Also use your face, don't be afraid to use your face. Are you feeling terrible, show it to me in your eyes. Happy? Throw a grin around that chin. Whatever the song calls for let it all out just keep it within the constraints of the song. Over emoting can hurt you just as much as under emoting.

  4. Enunciation/Learning Your Lyrics - You can know the lyrics front to back, back to front, left to right but if you don't enunciate them properly what's the point? Now I'm always a fan of going above and beyond with enunciation for entertainment value but I understand that's not exactly everyones gig. What I WILL tell you however is that you do infact have to over enunciate at least a little. You're not actually singing, if you were to just move your mouth as if you were it doesn't get the point across as well as overenunication does. A little bit goes a long way and it really gives that extra punch to your lyrics. Also rather than syncing the way you'd sing the song, actually listen to the person singing, mimic their breath patterns, listen to how THEY pronounce the word rather than how you do.

  5. Audience Connection - This one is going to be short, make and keep eye contact with your camera. Flirt with it a bit, the camera is your window to the audience and while you can't actually interact with them you can make them feel as if you are.

  6. Reacting to Critique- Now every week your videos are going to be watched by a large pool of people, some of these people may choose to critique you. Largely whether or not you listen to their tips for improvement is up to you, however be forewarned that while it is 100% your choice to follow tips, it could shoot you in the foot regardless of whether or listen or not. Be smart about it, also try not to take them to heart, not everyone is going to love all of your videos, and not everyone is going to hate all of your videos. Just be proud of the work you put in and do it for you, have fun with it, learn from it, keep expressing yourself.

  7. Dancing - Now if you are doing a song with rhythm, feel free to dance. You don't know how to dance? No problem either! Be creative, use the pauses and beats to your advantage. HOWEVER this is first and foremost a LIP SYNC competition. It helps to keep your fancy moves that could obscure your mouth to perhaps spots where there are no lyrics. If I can't see your mouth I don't know how well you're lip syncing. Find your balance, and run with it. In terms of non dance movement, hitting a beat with a quick arm movement or facial expression can really elevate a performance.

  8. Have a Look - This is the last thing I can think of off the top of my head. Having a look or costume to go with the song you picked not only shows effort but can keep the video very engaging. Now obviously not everyone has access to tons of costumes, wardrobe, wigs and accessories so don't be afraid to get crafty. For example back in season 2 zoomyx made wigs out of yarn! Competitor Sailor Evan in season 1 is known for his viral construction paper Sailor Moon outfits. Even a simple t-shirt and some rudimentary makeup can be turned into a look that helps you tell a story with your video.

  9. Filming Camera Angle Orientation - If you film on your phone, don't film in portrait mode. It cuts a lot out of the video and while you may have more room up and down to work with you lose a lot of room to your left and right, it also can be very distracting and take away from what otherwise be an absolutely stellar performance.

Overall these tips can and WILL help you in the long run, I wish you all the best and good luck!

Now with all that said I'm now going to reveal the 6 people I voted for in no particular order.

    /u/BitchEva /u/mtd1988 /u/Kamui_Gr /u/itsbrohan and I don't know Sheba Maneater or Lady T's reddit names.

Now good luck, and don't fuck it up

Edit: SECRET TIP NUMBER 10! Carrion Threads - If you don't get in or didn't audition but want to still participate, make a video and post it in the Carrion Threads! These threads are named after April Carrion from Season 6 of RuPaul's Drag Race, after she was eliminated she would post the runway looks for each theme that she brought to the show on her social media. In the spirit of that you guys can follow along in them and they're great practice to really hone your skills for next year! Stick around and lip sync with us!

This isn't directly related, but you can buy a Logitech webcam that will record video to your computer hard drive any time there is movement in the room. It might help you sleep easier at night. Just remember to disable the webcam light when it records. ;)

It's an oldie but a goody. Logitech C920

I think it's pretty decent, records in 1080p, can use for streaming and web calls. Has a pretty decent focus ability.

But again, it's an older model, maybe there's better new versions?

u/fischurr · 10 pointsr/Rockband
  1. You're going to need a capture card to record your video from your console. Look at Elgato or Hauppauge

  2. Of course you'll need a Camera to record your face-cam, any one will do. Logitech is popular for these.

  3. Okay so you've recorded all your footage, now what? Pop that footage into a video editing program like Adobe Premiere and get to work. Crop out the parts of the game capture you don't want, layer them over your face-cam recordings, and boom. There are dozens of tutorials on how to crop footage, basic editing, etc.

  4. Render that shit.

  5. Upload it to YouTube and prepare to not be able to monetize the video you spent all that time making.
u/Soupdeloup · 9 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

I feel like for the extra $10 it'd be worth it to go through Amazon Canada for the prime shipping and not having to deal with exchange rates.

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B006JH8T3S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_KasSAb5TA9D8B

If it breaks and you bought it through Amazon UK, will Amazon Canada deal with any returns?

u/construktz · 8 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

My roomy used to cam on her crappy little $400 laptop and it worked out pretty well. Cameras in this price range are going to be roughly the same. Still need a ton of light on you, still going to be a little grainy, etc. But they work.

Getting a quality external USB cam would be the way to go if you want something really clear.

And the ASUS Q501LA would be a very well rounded laptop in your price range, with a high end 1080p IPS touch display, backlit keyboard, 8GB RAM, i5-4200U, etc.

Anyone got any interesting setups/tv's? Idk why i'm writing this but here are the things I bring to tourneys.

Album link

My Tv Is by far the most eye catching thing. I bought 350 Fortune cookies and have been just taping them on there whenever I finish one. I am pretty much out of them so I have quite a bit all over the TV. The air fresheners were to bring some nice smells to any tournament I went to.

Standard Gamecube: 1.02 melee with newest 20xx TE and vanilla melee memory cards. This is the video cable IOnebring. It has s video + regular composite so I don't have to bring a powered splitter. Explaining more below.

Recording/Streaming setup: This consists of a Webcam which also records player/crowd audio (also a 16 ft extension). An Elgato with 16ft extension. Then I have 2 non-powered composite splitters. I plug in the composite video from the game cube directly into my TV and the S video into the elgato. The result isn't actually too bad (if someone knows how to deinterlace for better video hmu).

The last thing is My Controller: Someone on etsy painted it for me right before big house and so far it's a great purchase. It is of a Palestinian flag and has my tag on it. it doesn't feel any different from any other game cube controller which is great.

Edit: forgot about my headphone setup. I have sennheiser Momentums I bring with my headphone amp and plug that into the tv's audio with one of These. This has a pass through meaning other people can listen through the TV and I can adjust the volume with my amp. I also bring another headphone splitter so people can listen with their headphones.

For anyone wondering, CamelCamelCamel keeps track of Amazon prices for comparison.

This seems to be pretty standard pricing as Darklord says.

Save yourself the trouble and get this 1080p Webcam. It's basically the best you'll find in quality. And it's fine for what you're doing. Plus it's on sale.

u/viosdr · 7 pointsr/FireEmblemHeroes

Overall they seemed like decent beginner tips, however

  • I'd recommend lowering the volume of the background music(maybe change it to something more ambient)
  • If you plan on doing this longtem I'd also recomend investing in a better camera & webcam sample webcam & sample mic
  • maybe add some fire emblem artwork on one side then information or a bullet list of what you're talking about with links to that part of the video to replace the black bars, such as mantastic
u/caseydoo · 6 pointsr/computers
  • A lot of people use the Logitech c920 for their webcam.

  • Check out r/buildapcforme or r/buildapc for a pc build

  • Check out r/mechanicalkeyboards for an awesome keyboard.

I'm assuming you're wanting to build a desktop, so that's what my advice is for.

Spez: you seem to not know a whole lot, if you are building and/or need some more advice feel free to pm me
u/kiwiandapple · 6 pointsr/buildapcforme

So let's cut right down to it and explain the parts:

  • CPU: Intel quad-core, hyperthreaded CPU. This CPU will perform very well when playing any game, while streaming. Videos below will explain more why this CPU is more than good enough for your use. Got the H.264 codec which allows you to record and stream at very high quality. But this will give a hit on FPS.
  • CPU Cooler: Review. Easy to install, silent, good looking CPU cooler. Will keep the Xeon more than cool enough.
  • Motherboard: Black & red gaming motherboard. Got better on-board audio and a dedicated network chip to provide low latency when gaming.
  • Memory: 16GB of RAM. Speeds don't matter, only capacity. 16GB is overkill for a gaming PC, but will be helpful when you're using a lot of programs at the same time.
  • Storage: 240GB SSD for OS + all editing / streaming software. 2TB HDD for your game captures. Able to expand this later with 4 more HDDs.
  • Video Card: Review. The best single core GPU on the market. Got Shadowplay, which is a feature where you can capture game play with, although not at a extremely high quality.
  • Case: Review. Very awesome quality case and easy to work in. Given that it's $70, it's very good.
  • Power Supply: Review. 5 year warranty, 80+ gold, semi-modular (so you only have to plug in the cables that you need and nothing more), semi-passive fan profile, 650W PSU from EVGA made by FSP. This is a very high quality PSU. Which will have no problem powering this system that will at most pull about 350-400W depending on how much you overclock the GPU.
  • OS: Windows 10, remember that you need to have a USB stick of at least 4GB to install Windows. Also you need to have a PC with Windows on it to make use of this. If you're using XP you'll have to download the ISO file from the program and use Rufus to install the ISO on the USB flash drive.
  • Monitor: 2560x1440p IPS monitor. You will absolutely love this monitor and the amazing image quality + size. You can simply record games at 1080p no problem. When you stream, you should also just stream at 1080p and use the downscale option in OBS. This will then record your whole screen and simply down scale it. So the viewers will see everything that you see. Same thing will happen for the recording.
  • Capture card: Because you said that you don't want to have any loss in FPS while playing / recording games. This device is a very nice option to go for. This got a HDMI pass-through and will use the H.264 encoder to record or stream gameplay. Here is the product page. You simply connect this device with USB 3.0 to your PC, then you go out of your GPU into the device with HDMI and then out of the device into your monitor.

    ---

  • Keyboard: Review. Mechanical keyboards are a lot better in terms of typing and durability compared to membrane. But they are louder.
This is the Cherry MX red review and I went for the Cherry MX brown. The reds are perhaps even more silent once you've applied the O-rings. Not entirely sure about that. Here is a very good read about mechanical keyboards and especially a nice look at the different switches. I use MX browns personally and it's not silent at all, but it's far less loud compared to MX blues, that I've used previously.
  • Mouse: Review. This is probably the best review of this mouse. There is an RGB version now, but it got a $30 premium.
  • Webcam: Review. Pretty damn solid webcam for the price.

Note: the total price is without the keyboard, mouse & webcam.

    ---

Now I will also provide you with my standard list of videos to help you understand why I suggest these parts.
Lastly I'll also provide you with a couple of great guides to help you build the PC.
I have to post this in a reply to this post, since I went over the 10.000 character limitation reddit provides per post.

I've been thinking about buying the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 to use mostly as a mic as a lot of people of YouTube use it for the same purpose along with the video recording and there voices sound very clear.

I just don't really like having the mic boom on my Astro A40s which is why I'm thinking of getting that webcam to use as a mic.

u/Miridia · 6 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Hey man I understand. I do need a new camera. Probably gonna be getting one for christmas.

EDIT: This will be here in 2 days. :)

u/ASMRCast · 6 pointsr/asmr

Hey /u/QuestionSleep - Nice work on the sounds for your video! It looks like everyone is giving you a bit of a hard time about the video quality though. So I'm here to help! :)

Here's a couple of super basic things to help you:

  • Light is EVERYTHING! Having lights behind you (like your window) makes any camera have to lower the gain and exposure (fancy words for the way the image sensor takes in information which requires light). The best thing you can do with what you have right now is turn around so all the lights are behind the camera. That way the exposure and gain will come down and your framerate will go up. If you want to really help your videos get a simple table lamp and have it pointing at your face without getting in the shot, super cheap lighting!

  • If you can afford it, a new camera would be great! Decent webcams can be cheaper than you think too! I'm guessing you are American so head over to here for something to put on Santa's list! http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Webcam-Widescreen-Calling-Recording/dp/B006JH8T3S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416858979&sr=8-1&keywords=logitech+c920

Which I also use. It's a great webcam.

> So unless he's somehow got a 4K webcam

You mean like the #1 bestselling webcam on Amazon, whose images are 5168x2907, or almost double 4K?

4K = 8.3 megapixels. Most popular webcam for sale today = 15 megapixels. I bought my webcam in a supermarket for $25 and it does 4K stills.

u/oofki · 5 pointsr/Twitch

I think the market for most webcams are video chats, like skype, so you will be pressed to find one without a mic. I understand you reasoning, but what you are looking for is more specialty, it does not fit what most people are looking for. This in turn would actually drive up the cost of a product like this.

TL;DR: Just pick up one of these guys, you can't go wrong: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Webcam-Widescreen-Calling-Recording/dp/B006JH8T3S/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1427560529&sr=1-1&keywords=webcam

u/SplitReality · 5 pointsr/Games

First off this is for small business. Second, you get a webcam that does hardware encoding like the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920, 1080p Widescreen Video Calling and Recording. As for CPU usage in the reviews someone mentioned this

> The C920 does seem to use a lot less CPU than the C910. 640 by 480 on a core 2 Duo HP laptop was up to 80% CPU. With the 920C this dropped to 45% at 1280 by 920 by 30FPS.

That should work perfectly fine on a laptop like this: Inspiron 15 Non-Touch

u/Aldarro · 5 pointsr/LongDistance

I have the Logitech C920, which is a really excellent 1080p webcam with great low-light performance. It used to cost an arm and leg, but I see it's now below 70 USD on Amazon.

Mic quality is very good as well. It has stereo mics, one on each side (used for natural audio and noise cancellation). It's also Skype certified and is (as far as I know) one of very few that actually work with 1080p over Skype.

I can't recommend it enough, especially now that the price has dropped so much since I got it!

Logitech C 920HD. Amazon link, around 60 dollars today, I got it for more.

I use it, many big Youtubers use it. Clear recordings, the software gives you good controls, it sticks nicely to your screen or on a flat surface. My latest video shows you how it looks, visit my flair if you wanna check it out.

You might still have to buy lighting and be able to edit it in right, but that's with any webcam. :)

u/BAStartGaming · 5 pointsr/letsplay

Hey Crimson! I have a pretty good amount of experience with camera work for my gaming videos!

I'm not sure what your budget looks like, so I'll start with the cheapest solutions first.

I would suggest the most easily obtainable camera for live action stuff would be just to simply use your smart phone! For example, the iPhone camera shoots with a Sony CMOS sensor in full HD! Just make sure you stabilize it on a tripod or flat surface because the auto image stabilizer is pretty terrible at times. Secondly, if you do choose this option, I would highly recommend using a different audio source. Smart phones traditionally don't always have the best audio recorders on board.

A web cam is probably your second best solution! Full HD cams can run about 50-100 bucks, but they usually get the job done. Though again, with all these recommendations, I'd suggest you use an alternative microphone for audio.

If your not willing to use cheaper alternatives like a smart phone or a webcam, then I think your best bet would be the GoPro. These products are massively popular for a reason; they can provide BEAUTIFUL footage if used correctly. You can probably find one of these bad boys USED for under 200 on craigslist. For the relatively small price tag, this is one of the best all purpose cameras on the market.

Finally, if you have a decent budget at your disposal, I'd suggest the T3i. If you only plan on using this camera for rare occasions, then I'd advise against purchasing it. However, if your hoping your channel would rely heavily on live action content, then this is it. This is your solution! It might end up running you a little over 500 bucks, but this is the camera a majority of youtube creators have been using. There is a slight learning curve, but when you get the hang of it, your videos will look fantastic.

Like I said though, never use the on board audio recorders these solutions provide for you. Buy a separate microphone if quality is a big concern for you in your videos!

u/nsfwserraangel · 5 pointsr/magicTCG

If you have money to spend, I'd use a camera like This along with an adjustable arm like this one and attach the arm to something high up and look down. I used a similar setup for playtesting other card games and had a meterstick taped down on top of a bookshelf, attached the camera arm to that, and the camera directly above the playmat. In total will cost about 60 bucks but is as easy as it gets if you have to move it somewhere else.

If you already have a camera and a tripod, you may be able to secure that in a similar fashion to a nearby bookshelf though I dont know if you can get a perfect top down like you could with an adjustable arm as linked above.

Best of luck!

u/pseudonym21 · 5 pointsr/SexWorkersOnly

It's really, really easy to get started. Don't get me wrong, there is definitely a high level of production value that you can achieve (later on if you want to, or maybe never), but starting off is quite a simple thing.

All you really need is a laptop, a webcam, and decent internet... and maybe a soft lamp. It's best to have an ethernet cable running to your router if you can, for faster speeds than wifi. You can get a pretty cheap webcam that does a decent job, or shell out a little more and get something a little better. The best (or at least most popular) webcam for camgirls I have found is this one. Inbuilt laptop webcams might do the trick, but use your judgement on whether it looks good enough or not. Would you watch something of the quality you're producing?

There is sooo much information on ambercutie forums, but a trap that I fell into early on is feeling like you need expensive lighting, the best webcam, an amazing mic and so on when you really dont.

On the subject of lighting, it really makes a difference to be well lit, but you don't need photography-standard umbrella lights. I have two soft lamps a little bit behind my laptop so I'm lit from two angles, and it works really well. You just want to make sure they're soft and you're not casting yourself into shadow on one side, and MOST IMPORTANTLY not solely lit from above, like from a ceiling light. That is some unflattering shit.

I really like Myfreecams.com because it's easy to use, high traffic, the token conversion is easy to understand, the payment methods are easy and reliable, and probably least importantly is that there seems to be fewer rules regarding what you can and can't do (which makes it a little less stressful). Have a look at the aforementioned forum for advice regarding choosing a site. Verification can sometimes be a pain but if you have a driver's licence and a scanner you'll probably have a really easy time.

This is a loooot of information to take in all at once, I know. Even though I could go on and on for ages, like I said before, keep it simple to start with and don't stress yourself out with the nitty gritty - you might get so stressed you don't want to even begin. Bear in mind, this is all about the SOLID parts of camming, the technical aspects. The mental game is a whole other topic entirely, and I would be happy to answer more questions if you're asking.

Good luck! xx

u/ShacklefordLondon · 4 pointsr/telecommuting

Oooh nice. Well congrats. Lots of good info in r/digitalnomad (though that can be more for actively traveling remoters).

I'd encourage you to google a few articles on common pitfalls of remote work to help you avoid. And if you're doing any video conferencing get a nice webcam. I did some research and this HP webcam is about the best bang for your buck.

If you're doing work on the phone, get a nice bluetooth headset that has excellent noise cancelling, so you can take calls in coffee shops/public environments & not worry about background noise.

u/SaaiTV · 4 pointsr/Twitch

Just to clarify, you bought a $150 capture card just to capture camera feed from your iPhone?

If you don't plan on streaming console games and are only using it to capture your camera feed I would highly recommend you return it if you can and just spend the money on an actual webcam. The Logitech c920 is less than half the price and will result in much higher quality video.

Grab a C920 or two and use Skype. You can run multiple instances easily for multiple camera angles. You may also desire an omnidirectional mic such as the Yeti for audio, but you can try a laptop built-in mic first and see if it picks up everyone at the table without noise canceling getting in the way. Of course, if the Hero 4 can be used as a webcam, then you can substitute it in place of a C920 without issue. I'm not sure how well it will work: I know the 4 is a huge improvement, but I definitely wouldn't bother with my 3 in any case.

1 minutes and 12 seconds just to do a key card effect?

I appreciate that you're trying to make videos with some production value, but your videos need to mature a great deal before they'll see any love in this sub-reddit.

If you're interested in improving the quality of your videos, I have some recommendations:

  1. Get an HD web-cam. [This is what I use] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006JH8T3S/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
  2. Use a fresh deck of bicycle cards.
  3. Speak! Silence is boring and confusing.
  4. Stop with the unnecessary opening slides. Give one short slide with the trick name, and the source.
  5. Learn more interesting effects. Making veteran magicians here sit through a full minute just to see a key-card is a little irritating.
  6. Practice. Your handling still doesn't look comfortable.

Right now your videos are getting downvoted because they feel like spam. They're like a thousand other videos out there of kids who think that all they need is a simple trick, music, and some video effects and they deserve a subscription base.

I always will recommend the Logitech C92 Webcam best bang for your buck. But as long as the quality of the cam is 720P and can withstand atleast 30 FPS you'll be fine.

Headsets really don't matter, but when I have alot of people over I use my Blue Snowball... You can find one alot cheaper than that shopping around. The Yeti is the best mic I've used but super expensive... If I'm by myself I just use my turtle beaches actually.

As for my computer, I stream from the ASUS ROG Laptop. Don't worry about your specs much as long as you can get some solid RAM memory. (4GB at the absolute lowest). The bandwidth of your internet speed is what you need to worry about the most... The lowest the general public can stream at that's tolerable is about 1100 kb/s. So keep that in mind.

Feel free to ask me anytime.

u/thelegendofjonnii · 3 pointsr/letsplay

I use a Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920. The camera offers 1080p recording at 30fps and its a webcam so it just powers through the computer. The camera also has a camera mount option but you can use its own built in clip for attaching it to monitors and laptops. Plus it's only a little over your budget by $4 but the price drops often.

u/uncommon_sc2 · 3 pointsr/podcasts

I wish someone would have given me this list when I started. For about $360 the list below gives you everything you need. I highly recommend against recording on your phone. There is also a lot of great free software out there for recording video for both PC and Mac. I use XSplit personally, even if I'm not streaming. You could probably find the light set without the green screen for a little cheaper if you want, but I wouldn't go any cheaper on the microphones, soundboard or webcam. With all this you'll have a semi-professional setup at an affordable budget.

I run the roll20 app inside of google hangouts. It does the game table, and voice chat all in one window. I have tried every chat client out there and Hangouts is by far the best now (it sucked the first few years, but it is google so it got fixed).

On another monitor I have our campaign document open, which is a GoogleDoc spreadsheet with a tab for every character and several game notes. I share all of that in a gDrive folder with the game rules and handouts.

I keep a pdf of the gamebook open on a third monitor (I only use pds anymore so that I search the text).

Then I have also started to run Roll20 on my tablet as a player so that I can make sure I see what the players are seeing.

I've got a Logitech c920 on top of my monitor that I just aim down where my keyboard usually is and put my playmat there. Works just fine over skype/discord/curse/whatever

u/Aracat · 3 pointsr/MLPCCG

Some notes for participants:

  • Everything has a camera in it, but it may not be convenient to use. Consider how you'll record an entire playmat and still be able to see whatever your opponent's doing. Just a laptop/tablet alone will probably not work well for this.

  • Looking to buy a webcam for a computer? The gold standard for webcams is the Logitech C920 series. Basically everybody who wants reasonably priced quality uses them.

  • Make sure that you've positioned your camera securely enough that it won't fall over in the middle of playing. Some boxes, sticks and a lot of tape can go a long way for very cheap.

  • The game may take an hour including setup and troubleshooting, so try to clear at least that much time from your schedule. Also lock your cats/younger siblings/etc... out while you're playing.

  • Overhead lights cause glare and/or shadows; cover your playmat in cards and see if there are any spots where the lights make cards unreadable, then try to rearrange or turn off lights as necessary to fix that. The closer to the ground the lights are the less they will glare. Yes this is hard; lighting sucks.

  • Have some spare paper or your collection ready in case your opponent puts a resource on one of your friends, or you're running a deck that steals your opponent's friends.
u/aknalid · 2 pointsr/3Dprinting

Yeah, so you need to ssh into the Raspberry Pi and enable the camera via sudo raspi-config.

Although, the Raspberry Pi camera has limited support AFAIK, it is MUCH better to just use a recommended camera.

I use a Logitech C920 and it works GREAT.

u/ProfDrCmdrChang · 2 pointsr/videography

If you're willing to spend a little extra, the Logitech C920 (referral link) would be a great deal for you. It's $50 USD on Amazon right now. It does pretty serviceable 1080p video. The audio sucks on it since webcams typically rely on you to be right in front of the computer, but if you've got that microphone you shouldn't have any problems.

Here's some sample footage I found on YouTube.

As for the Samsung J5, the video is more than serviceable. Here's some sample footage from that. I'd hate to recommend buying a new phone because it's a bigger purchase. Then again, it would give you some flexibility with where to set up your camera.
The J5 is that much cheaper because it's a budget phone (a quick Google search shows the 2017 model at <$200 USD). It's not going to hold a candle to your girlfriend's S9, and I'm willing to bet money that the phone overall is noticeably slower. The S9 also does 4K video while the J5 is limited to 1080p.

Whatever you end up getting, just make sure you're lit pretty well. Budget cameras don't perform superbly under low light.

Everyone else is giving you good recommendations for microphone, etc, so I thought I'd just throw in that if you're looking for a good webcam, I use the Logitech HD Pro C920. It does 1080/30fps and I've been really happy with it. The settings are intuitive, it looks great, and you can clip it to your monitor or set it on a flat surface with it's folding base.

The audio is 100% TERRIBLE though so definitely get a nice sounding mic.

For a fairly cheap but still effective solution, you can try the Logitech HD C920. That's the brand we use at my job in our small meeting rooms (the tables we use are about the size of that table, if a little smaller), and it worked so well that I got one for personal use at home. Easy set-up, picks up fairly good sound quality, and is wide screen so the whole table should be able to be included.

u/Salty_Stevie · 2 pointsr/letsplay

My biggest piece of advice is to not settle on anything lower than 1080p. That level of video quality is almost expected these days, and webcams are really affordable. It's easy to find something lower than $50 that will film in HD, but if you're willing to spend a little more I'd suggest the webcam that I have, the Logitech HD Pro C920. The video quality is great, and the auto settings are usually perfect which is great because I hate putting in the time to fool around with video settings. It has autofocus, which is relatively rare in webcams, and results in a really nice picture as long as you turn off the autofocus once it's focused on your face (otherwise it'll be jumping around throughout your video, as I realized the first time I recorded with it). Personally I think it's worth the price, but you could find something a bit cheaper if you don't care about all the bells and whistles. Just go for 1080p!

EDIT: About the autofocus, I mean that model actually autofocuses during video, if you keep the option checked. It's completely silent, which is nice if you ever need to film a video where you'll be putting things closer to the camera to show detail (like unboxings or something) because you won't need to refocus while filming.

u/drelloktv · 2 pointsr/Twitch

1: personally, i use a Logitech C920. It's really nice, but also overkill since you don't need to put out 1080p video from your cam to have good quality. It's on sale currently on amazon though.

2: i just started using an Audio-technica AT2020 and so far I love it. They make a usb version of it as well.

3: My green screen cost me $18 bucks for a 6' x 10' screen. I would make sure that you get a green screen made from muslin fabric.

The whole build is red and black themed.
CPU is ideal for streaming.
CPU cooler is one of the best air coolers. You could overclock your CPU to its limits.
A high quality motherboard with good audio and tons of features.
16GB RAM is plenty for streaming.
SSD for OS and programs.
HDD for games and media.
GPU will max out every game.
Case you wished.
Fully modular PSU, so that you could get red sleeved cables. You could add another GPU in the future. 750W would only have a little headroom according to PCPP.
Blu-Ray driver with write functionality.
High quality IPS monitor.
Keyboard you wished.
Totally black extended mousepad.
1080p webcam.
The mouse is the improved version of the G500. It's the s model.
Fan controller. I would not get a fan controller because it is vertical in that case.
Red LED cable.
As many fans as possible.

He uses an actual videocamera and/or DSLR that comes with a remote for that.

This has face tracking and comes with software that allows you to zoom in and control the camera (if you disable facetracking). I use it, and it's great.

u/dougiefresh1233 · 2 pointsr/roosterteeth

You're probably right about the headphones

For Mics they either use the Audio-Technica AT2020, or different model from the same brand(the AT 2035 maybe).

For Webcams they use the Logitech c920.

Their chairs are DX Racers

For capture cards I think they use El Gatos

They used to use Alesis MultiMix 16 mixer, but they may have updated to something newer.

They're keyboards, monitors, and I think mice consist of whatever they happened to have on hand at the time. I think I've seen HP, ASUS, Dell, and Apple stuff mostly.

u/lol_machy · 2 pointsr/Twitch

First off, it is so amazing that you want to support him, even though you aren't sure what it is. A good mic is probably the first thing I would get. It doesn't have to be expensive either, this one is very common and is of much better quality than a mic on a headset. https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Snowball-Condenser-Microphone-Cardioid/dp/B006DIA77E/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=usb%2Bmic&qid=1574866095&sr=8-7&th=1

A webcam is recommended, but a microphone is more important. That said, if you do want to get him a webcam, this is a good one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006JH8T3S/ref=twister_B07XFGW1NZ?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

Other than that, there isn't much else needed besides a computer that is good enough to stream. I really hope he gets popular, and it is very nice to see a parent supporting their child's goals. Have an awesome day!

u/sparksdls · 2 pointsr/Dell

With the camera location on these things, if I were doing a lot of Skype I would get a webcam like this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006JH8T3S

u/BigRonnieRon · 2 pointsr/WeAreTheMusicMakers

c920 @$60. I have one, they work well, it's what most streamers and youtubers use. You literally clip the thing to your monitor (or a tripod if you prefer) download the software, and plug it in and you're good to go.

https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-960-000764-C920-Webcam/dp/B006JH8T3S

u/PinkyThePig · 2 pointsr/linux

If you manually shorten the url to remove the ref portion (even if that ref is your search terms) it should allow it. It looks for any ref portion.

For example, by me going to amazon, and doing a search then clicking on a product, it generates this URL:

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Webcam-Widescreen-Calling-Recording/dp/B006JH8T3S/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1452178877&sr=1-1&keywords=webcam

But that can be shortened to:

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Webcam-Widescreen-Calling-Recording/dp/B006JH8T3S

And it will still link to same page without triggering the bot.

u/Wixely · 2 pointsr/PanasonicG7

It wasn't designed for that, you'd be better off with a c920. You'd get better quality, reliability and features out of that dedicated webcam for a lot less effort (face tracking, face focus, c920 does amazing low light video). But of course it's possible.

u/xlordrelayx · 2 pointsr/xboxone

I use Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920

Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920, Widescreen Video Calling and Recording, 1080p Camera, Desktop or Laptop Webcam https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006JH8T3S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_HEXDDsI98k15r

u/artenransk · 2 pointsr/letsplay

I use this webcam right now and I think it's pretty good, if you'd like a cheaper one, you could always go for a 720p resolution camera. Everyone suggests this one as the high end camera if you'd like to look really nice.

And yes, OBS does support green screen (chroma keying).

u/Saorigameover · 2 pointsr/letsplay

I have the Logitech C920 and it's awesome. I got it on Newegg while it was around $50. If you keep an eye out for deals on this one you can get it for a decently cheap price!

But with all honesty, for LPs, your webcam is taking up a small portion of your video. Unless you're doing full screen style vlogs, a professional camera set up is really not needed.

u/hustler566 · 2 pointsr/Twitch

If you could afford an extra 25 bucks https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Widescreen-Calling-Recording-Desktop/dp/B006JH8T3S/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1541182957&sr=1-1&keywords=c920

would be an amazing choice. I have had mine for years and have never had an issue.

u/kidsampson22 · 2 pointsr/streaming

Are you planning on streaming PC Games or Console games? if console your going to need a capture device: amazon

This camera has comes highly recommended for your budget: amazon

I used to do PIP streams a long time ago but really it should be pretty simple to set up in OBS.

  • install/plug in webcam (should be simple)
  • Open OBS and the Global Sources Menu
  • Add a new GS which will be the webcam. (This way you don't need to configure it after creating new scenes, just add the GS to the scene)
  • If using a capture device follow above directions so that its also simple to set up between scenes if you plan on changing things around.
  • Try and do a small dry run so you know how everything works.

When I ran couch streams I had a mic on a boom connected to a mixer I kept near my feet so I could change the mic volume on the fly. I don't know exactly what kind of set up you'll have, but I def recommend setting it up a few days early and testing it if you haven't already.

I'm sure I'm forgetting things so just let me know and I'll do my best to respond quickly.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/myfreecams

No you cannot use an iPhone for a webcam, and MFC does not allow men if you were thinking of couples camming.

I'd strongly suggest waiting until you can pick up a Logitech c920 or 930 from Amazon.

She can cam with the built in cam on her laptop, but the quality is not very good and she'll most likely waste her New Model status with the poor quality.

If she does end up going that route, I'd recommend picking up a lot of lights and fiddling with that to get the best quality video you can.

u/TeebsTibo · 2 pointsr/streaming

This is the one I use and most streamers I see using. It's simple and easy to set up. I don't have natural light either as most of it comes from in front of my camera's lens and bleeds into shot. I recommend having a couple of those paper lamps from Ikea and soft light lamps. They add great lighting if you use a dark room.

u/boolslice · 2 pointsr/Twitch

I don't have a whole lot of experience with webcams to be honest, but I've heard really good things about the Logitech c920. Amazon has them here for $70 with Prime shipping.

Hope that helps.

u/LuntiX · 2 pointsr/Twitch

What's your budget and country?

I'm going to assume you're in the United States until you specify.

Amazon has a sale on the Logitech C920 ($64.33 down from $99.99). The C920 is generally what a lot of streamers use until they switch to an actual camera.

There's also the Logitech C615 which is also on sale for $45.95 down from $69.99. The image quality won't be as great as the C920 but it should still be a decent quality webcam.

u/Emerald_Flame · 2 pointsr/buildapc

For a webcam, the Logitech C920 has been THE de facto webcam for years. You can pick one up for about $60 new most of the time: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006JH8T3S/

As for wireless, you just need a wifi card of some sort. Asus and Gigabyte make ones that are relatively affordable and have AC support.

u/kshucker · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I use this

I also stream (on twitch) and this works perfectly. Absolutely no complaints about it and I was actually told about it over at r/twitch when I asked the same question you did.

Hey.

I'm looking to record guitar videos for YouTube. I'm recording the audio via my audio interface, so the sound quality of the camera doesn't matter at all.

Ideally I'd like I camera I can control, or at the very least monitor with my computer. So I can set it up, and record takes etc with my PC.

Would I get a good step up going from a webcam like this to a $200ish camera?

If so, can you recommend one for my use?

u/Laptop_Looking · 2 pointsr/laptops

You can get a very good quality (better than any laptop webcam), clip-on webcam for about fifty dollars. There are also cheaper webcams out there.

This is what I use. It's got the microphone built in and it's got really good quality video. But there are plenty of cheaper video cams that are good and can be used with gaming headsets.

u/slimebeef · 2 pointsr/SwingDancing

The standard for streaming is the Logitech 920. Looks like it's on sale right now too. I've since upgraded to the Sony A6000 but that's probably overkill for what you're looking for. If you are looking for video quality (at a cheaper price) I agree with most others, use your phone. It most likely has a higher video quality for point and shoot and quick reviewing. My pixel 2 video quality is far better than my webcam.

I have the Logitech C615 and I really like it. It picks up sound really well which I always had a problem with. For a little more you could get the Logitech C920 and have something with dual mics (which generally picks up on more/better sound)

u/ztraider · 2 pointsr/PanasonicG7

I've set up my G7 for streaming (once), but it requires some extra hardware and is still a pain. I had an HDMI-to USB converter that I use with my microscope, and people kept asking what the zebra striping was because I didn't get every useful screen element turned off.

If you wanted to do a proper job of the streaming, I'd recommend getting a webcam (e.g. Logitech c920 which also takes a tripod screw). You could also just look for the cheapest webcam you could find as long as it was compatible with your operating system, but that wouldn't be as useful a piece of hardware generally.

u/OvrKi11 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I have a Logitech C920. It's a little out of your price range, however I strongly suggest that you give this product a SERIOUS consideration.

u/NoodleFM · 2 pointsr/Twitch

I'm a bit confused about your question. Do you have a webcam? Or are you just asking about a position to put the webcam?

If the former, you'll need a USB webcam, easy to set up. The C920 is a popular choice, but really anything from Logitech is good.

Judging from the price fluctuation, at least on Amazon, it looks like you must've gotten yours when it was on sale. You're very fortunate!

u/MichaelApproved · 1 pointr/podcasting

You need a USB extender. For Keith and The Girl podcast, I have a 4 camera setup which uses a 33ft USB extender for each camera. It works really well for our live shows and we record for hours off them without any problems. One important thing is to make sure they're running off of individually powered USB ports because the camera and extension cable both need power to work.

I was going to mention the webcam issue. I'd recommend this one.

If you are willing to deal with more wires, a mixer with a normalizer will give you the best sound. You will also need a real microphone and a pop filter. Pro audio just gets better as you spend more time and money. It will also use more desk space.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zl8pgp2mH6Y

A logitech webcam (for the quality mic) and a quiet keyboard are a good compromise. You may want the long-necked mount to get it closer to your face.

I did the recording at GenCon and Brony CAN.

The cheapest way to do this with pretty good results is to get a light stand and boom arm. Then attach a Logitech C920 webcam (has a 1/4" mount) up to the end of it and plug it into a laptop.

And yeah, you'll want diffuse lighting. I had a major issue with that at BronyCAN.

For webcam, I use the Logitech C920. I've had it for a few years now, and it's been great. It's also much cheaper now since there are newer models out. If it's for a laptop, the only thing is it might be hard to mount it on top of your screen without it falling off. So consider getting a separate mount that can attach to your desk.

Motion blur is also easy, just don't have a crappy sensor.

For the budget conscious. Estimated costs for this project assuming there is a computer of sufficient power is ~$281. This will give a live interface to record the sessions.

OBS Studio for the software. Refer to this page for minimum specs for the PC check youtube for tutorial videos. It can stream to Twitch, youtube, as well as record local. Plus later on you can add the cards and pilot data as an overlay.

Grab an HP C920 or your favorite webcam. You can use multiple web cams if you want a mat+dice multiview output. There are many creative ways to mount the camera above the mat.

For general audio a Jabra 510 speakerphone is fantastic and will grab all audio in a 10-13 ft radius. For commentator audio, a blue yeti is a great start.

Those three items will get you started and provide enough quality to run for a bit. You are welcome to substitute items but that is a solid package. For edit later and post a gopro is a simple reliable package.

I got my mom a Blu-Ray edition of a live concert featuring Chicago with Earth, Wind & Fire. She loves both bands, and we grew up listening to them on LP and cassette tape.

Also, since I live halfway around the world (USA to South Korea), I got her a new high-def webcam so we can video chat a little easier.

Of course, those will be followed up with a card that will arrive closer to the actual day, and 1-2 calls on Mother's Day.

u/Yokuo · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Hi there!

  1. This sexy microphone. You know what's awesome? Recording yourself on the computer. Or skyping. Or third thinging. And this mic has some pretty stellar reviews. I'd love to get a good mic for my computer. I'm considering getting in to making tutorials and posting them on one of those "learn how to do things" websites, but my current mic won't but it for that. Also, my current mic (which is really just a crappy headset) sucks.

  2. I can't remember if you like Game of Thrones, or if you've seen it, but the newest season is sitting on my wishlist. If you haven't seen it, you really ought to, as it's fantastic and I love it! And if you have, well, see it more! :p

  3. You know what else is good? The Walking Dead. And what's even more interesting than the show is the source material. There are three of these compilations (all are on my wishlists) that cover 50-ish volumes of the original comics each. It's no secret how into the series I am, and the comics don't disappoint. Give them a shot if you're even a little interested, regardless of this contest.

  4. Webcams are helpful, and anyone who ever uses one should have a good one. This seems to be a good one. I know I could use it, and I'm sure there's something fun you can use it for too :p

  5. Classics are good, even if they're a bit bogged down with awkward prequels. Star Wars is a fantastic series of movies, and they're all available here. I've really been wanting to rewatch them! I also have steelbook versions of the individual movies on my wishlist, but this entry is more contained.

If you have a gopro I would rock that. But those are super expensive. They make really good webcams nowadays however that are much cheaper and would record in better quality. This all asssumes you have good lighting where you will be recording.

Do you mean the presence of a facecam? I would recommend getting a nice webcam and microphone (I use this and this, respecitvely). They're not prohibitively expensive and can get you a level of recording quality that's a touch higher than the average dime-a-dozen LP. You'll have to do some experimenting with your video editing to figure out how you want to frame it, but that comes with trial and error. For example, I elected to make my gameplay off-center so that the facecam doesn't cover it up (unless the game is widescreen in which case I have no choice), and put my logo in the remaining negative space.

u/DougVossen · 1 pointr/podcasts

Told you I'd get back to you! I don't find Meerkat or Periscope useful for a full length show because I learned it'll look like crap, microphone or not. HOWEVER, what I DID start doing a month or so ago was live stream in another manner. Here's how and it's AWESOME.

If you've ever used Twitch you know it's primarily for watching people play video games. However, they have recently allowed people to do creative things on it under the channel "Creative". What you'll need is software called XSplit broadcaster (there are other options but this is the one I use) and some basic Logitec USB2 webcams off of Amazon and some Blue Yeti mics off amazon as well. You can use this to set up a stream in the creative category and you can incorporate the chat box, skype calls, or anything else you want to give it the live show feel.

This is an example of what we've been doing lately. Here's our newest episode so you can see if it's what you're trying to achieve (or something like it). Let me know if I can be of anymore help. Good luck!

Hey there! I don't know much at all about hand-helds, I can only reccommend what I know and use.

I most recently use the Logitech C920 for my videos. I'm assuming that if you're filming reviews in front of your computer, that portability is not an issue?

And because of the terrible webcam audio that seems to plague all webcams, the Blue Snowball is a terrific, budget starter mic to give you some great sound at a terrific price.

Both are USB, the Snowball is plug and play, but the camera comes with nifty mini recording package that you can install and start using right away to shoot video.

Do you have any archived footage of those streams?

u/hawaiian0n · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

Mid-low end mic technology hasn't changed in the last decade so for 90% of purposes any $10 mic will do.

No one really uses a stand alone mic for VOIP/SKYPE anymore since they're built into so many devices, but you can probably get USB mic or MIC/Webcam for really cheap.

I set up a price watch on this webcam for when it next falls below $49.99. But that's a high quality webcam for streaming for Twitch.

You can save even more by getting one of these now. (60% off now)

There is not 'best' camera. If you want best, you can get an SLR, lol. Any HD camera will do, even 720p would be fine since you're going to be shrinking the footage anyways. Most people don't stream higher than 720p I've noticed.

I wouldn't bother with a streamdeck just yet. I use OBS Streamlabs and it has a deck a bit like that, that you can use in a smartphone. And it's free =D

Besides hardware, the best advice I can give is to be consistent and stick to a time and day of week. Select when and try to not skip his stream dates. And also, build community. Social media works great for that and small things, like learning the usernames of the people that watch him, so that he can say hi when they come. =)

budget version of the logitech c920? Looking for something with decent vid quality and a mic

u/iGumball · 1 pointr/letsplay

If you want to record high quality content for a mid level price range you have a few options. First: I would look into getting a webcam, the Logitech c920 is great for the price, and puts out phenomenal qudio/video quality for what you're looking for.

Second - You'll need a capture card. These can be pretty expensive, so you may want to look at an older model that supports something like 720p30fps

Here is an example of the one I use for console, mind you this is probably the most important part of recording quality gameplay so you can see what's going on. As far as recording, Elgato gives you a free software that runs the capture card footage through to OBS, and you can resize/crop the facecam on top of the scene within OBS itself and set your recording audio levels so that as soon as you hit record/stop record, the video is good to go and watchable as a cute lets play from your daughter.

u/smushkan · 1 pointr/videography

The Q2N can function as a 720p USB webcam, though it's quite wide-angle (like a go-pro) so it would need to be closer than you'd think to get a good shot.

Your budget really is too low for anything other than webcams really, though you can get some pretty decent webcams for that price.

Hve a look at the Logitech C920. You'd have enough left over for a USB audio interface so you could run an output from the desk into your streaming package.

The thing is though, webcams don't have zoom. The zoom/pan that is done by software is simply blowing up the image so you're not gaining any detail, so things will just look blurrier when you zoom in.

Ideally, you'll need to reduce the distance between the camera and the stage somehow. You could, for example, suspend the camera from the ceiling, or mount it on a desk at the front of the bar?

However, if you're streaming at 720p or lower resolution, then you could potentially zoom in on the video in your streaming package without losing quality (don't use the webcam software, use something like OBS).

The Zoom Q2N would work as it can function as a USB webcam, but it's got a go-pro like wide-angle lens on it so it would need to be even closer than a normal webcam.

Really to pull this project off well, you'd need to spend at least a few more hundred dollars. A consumer camcorder like a Canon Vixia, plus a HDMI capture device like a Blackmagic Web Presenter would be the ideal budget setup.

u/TheEclecticGamer · 1 pointr/SWlegion

I've streamed board games but not miniatures.

I would say that I think having an overhead view would be important if you want people to follow the gameplay so that they can get a correct sense of where things are in relation to each other.

OBS is great and free, use that.

If you're going to have a dedicated "director" they can switch between angles live, otherwise you can do a multicam situation all on the same screen. A director could also update overlays live. We eventually switched to just doing youtube videos and so we recorded each camera separately and edited them together for the final product.

I think you could choose to not do a dice camera. Doing it will be more exciting as people can see the rolls but if you don't just be careful to specify what was rolled out loud for the camera so the viewers know.

You can do a lot with just webcams, this is the one I have 3 of. https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Widescreen-Calling-Recording-Desktop/dp/B006JH8T3S/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1523112956&sr=1-4

C920 is currently $39.99 at Amazon.

This post hit home for me as I was in a long distance relationship for a long time.

Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 is great! It does 1080p wide angle and even has a privacy shutter (at an extra charge)

Here’s the Amazon (US) link:

Yes.

I recommend the Logitech C920. It's used by almost every streamer, including myself, and I am very happy with it.

What stand are you setting it on? Here is the amazon link to the c920. You can see by the pictures that it is capable of standing on its own or extending to clamp onto the top of a monitor.

It is a very versatile camera. Only thing it cannot do is swivel side to side (which the c615 can do)

u/Zavender · 1 pointr/boardgames

Just a couple more questions, and I think I'll be good.

Is this the 920 you're talking about?

Where is a good place to set the mic? Would I need two stands, or would I be able to use one stand for both camera and mic? Or could I just put the mic on the edge of the table, out of view of the cameras?

I never realized how weak the Canadian dollar is, I was really surprised at how much less it gets you. This is based on the "Crusher" build from the /r/pcmasterrace wiki, plus a keyboard and monitor. I don't have any direct experience with any of these parts besides the monitor, which I got for my girlfriend's computer build (and it's a great monitor at that price)

If you're looking to spend more, the first places to do it are

1. Better motherboard
2. Better keyboard
3. Better processor

Now for other recommendations. I stream on twitch as well, (mostly World of Tanks and other games), and I mostly use a Logitech G430 as my headphones/mic. If you're looking for a new mouse, Redragon makes really great mice at really good prices, I use a Redragon Perdition as my primary mouse for gaming, a Redragon Nemeanlion at work, and a Redragon Centrophorus for my secondary computer (used as a server and for doing distributed computing). For a webcam, I use a Logitech C920

I'm buying a new one soon, like a proper camera. My webcam shouldn't be THAT bad. It's the best webcam you can get aside from using actual cameras. What are you going to use such a powerful camera for? I wouldn't see any reason for it. If you want a facecam then just use some of the MUCH less expensive webcams that still have great video quality. I believe you can use a capture card for the WiiU, from what I remember it doesn't have any HDCP to block you from recording.

A good webcam: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Webcam-Widescreen-Calling-Recording/dp/B006JH8T3S/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1410922304&sr=1-1&keywords=webcam

These are Asus VX247H-P 23.6" Full HD monitors, which run around $140 after rebate. They have inputs for VGA, DVI and HDMI, and VESA mount holes.

The mount is a modified Mount-It! desk mount for 6 monitors up to 21". I added about 11 inches to the 4 outside arms so that it will take the VS247's with sufficient clearance that I can tilt the top monitors in at about a 30 degree angle and still tilt them all down to face me. As you can see, that leaves gaps in the upper tier, which is where my speakers go.

My computer is an Asus G75VW, which has external video outpus for VGA, HDMI and DisplayPort. With a cheap VGA or HDMI adapter on the DisplayPort I can directly connect the bottom three monitors. I moved the OEM 900GB drive to the second drive bay and put a 256Gb SSD in the first. Still need to get the memory maxed out (running 8GB, which is cramped at times, but not yet so much that I've been motivated to buy more).

For the upper three monitors I added a 7 port USB 3 hub and three Plugable USB 2.0 to VGA/DVI/HDMI adapters for $40 each (there is a nicer model available now, which supports higher resolutions and speeds). Up to six of these will run on a system.

On the back I have RGB LED strip ($25) which provides nice mood lighting, and also illuminates the keyboard at night. Pardon the mess of cables. I recently rearranged the monitor cables and haven't tied everything back up neatly yet. I'll probably get that done sometime in the next year or two).

On top of the center monitor is a Logitech C920 webcam for about $70, which gives pretty decent stereo audio and video quality for calls via Google Voice and Skype. The sound quality is mostly limited by the all-hard-surfaces room I have for an office.

The USB adapters run surprisingly well. The frame rate will drop if I try to run a video at a large size, but at smaller sizes (1/6th-ish screen size) i can see no judder from lack of bandwidth. When I watch videos full screen I put them on one of the three lower monitors.

When I want to go mobile I have to unplug three monitor cables, and two USB cables (two 7 port hubs, the USB 3 hub for monitors and USB drives, and a USB 2 hub for bluetooth headset and fitbit adapter (evidently the high frequency of USB 3 tends to interfere with these low-power wireless dongles, they work much more reliably on USB 2). The speakers on the monitor stand are plugged into the back of the monitor that is connected via HDMI.

All together the monitor setup was about $1160.

You could probably buy a C920 in stores and have them pricematch to $63.

This is late but I stumbled into this thread from a search for something else. I've just finished my semester doing the same thing for a Calculus 2 class in a college setting. I usually use a chalkboard, but I opted for a webcam attached to a clip-on stand. This ran through my laptop (a Mac, which is relevant) and then into the overhead projector. Instead of writing on a board I instead wrote on paper. This actually encouraged me to pre-print worksheets to work through and also make available for students, which has been very helpful and I've received lots of positive comments from students about the setup. Lectures are recorded with Quicktime Player using my laptop's built-in mic. After a new concept or a natural break in the discussion I stop recording, save the video, and start another one, giving me videos of 5-15 minutes each. This semester I ended up with 150 videos, all hosted on YouTube unlisted with a playlist URL that I shared with students once at the beginning of the semester (voting and comments disabled).

When I wanted to use a virtual manipulative (I like GeoGebra for demos, and I code on the fly in front of the class with Sage) I use [record screen] rather than [record movie] in Quicktime. If I run DwayneCam (free app for OSX) I can show the webcam stream in a window on the desktop while I also show my web browser, and the whole screen gets recorded.

It really is a great setup and cost me under $100 total. Plus all you ever see of me is my hand.

Logitech C920 is considered to be one of the best at $50. Does 1080p30fps with a 12mp sensor which is great for a facecam. The mic is also pretty good, but since most streamers will want a boom mic it's kind of a throwaway feature for a cam.

If you feel that you just can't live without 1080p60 then the C922 can do that, but it's not worth the bump in price (costs 2x as much).

For what it's worth, you can connect your Samson mic to an iPhone using this:

A USB OTG adaptor for Android phones would be even cheaper:

u/CrispySith · 1 pointr/stop_motion

This is what I use:

Logitech Webcam ($50) - It captures 1080p images and can be controlled 100% manually via free Logitech software. The depth of field is kinda bad up close but it gets the job done.

qStopMotion (Free) - An open source stop motion program. Development stopped a few years ago and it isn't perfect, but it has onion skinning and playback. Only works with a webcam, not DLSR.

Hitfilm Express 2017 (Free) - A fully functional editing program extremely similar to Adobe Premiere, but free and with a built-in compositor (so you don't need After Effects). Not too hard to learn, but then I already had 5 years editing experience when I got it. The free version has everything you need unless you are a professional visual effects artist.

For audio, Audacity is a perfect choice. I wouldn't worry about getting him a microphone unless he does a ton of voice acting. Even then, a phone or laptop should suffice since he is a 10 year old hobbyist. Then he can learn how to clean audio with Audacity as well.

For lights, I would let him mess around with desk lamps and random lights around the house. Paper is great for diffusing light, either as a screen or a bounce. Since he isn't a pro, he doesn't need anything fancy. Personally, I have learned a lot from making due with the lights I have.

That's my two cents. Go stop mo!

u/Athrophia · 1 pointr/Twitch

For video I already have a HD PRO WEBCAM C920 and for audio I have a Samson Meteor Mic, but since I'll be duo streaming with a roommate, I'm not sure what I should go for.
what do you think about the SteelSeries Arctis 7 ?
I have a cherry mx red keyboard with o-rings, I'd like something that will pick up the less ambient noise possible.
I have a budget a bit above 1k € since I'll probably be able to sell my i5 4670k / Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H / 4x4 GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz CAS9 / 2 x MSI R7950 Twin Frozr III for a bit.
Not sure how much I could sell this old hardware, but since ram is more expensive, and the I5 isn't bad, the 7950's could probably go around 70€ each and the MB maybe around 70€ as well, not really sure.
I also have a green screen, maybe not top quality, but with some testing it might work, I'll probably have to buy some lights as well to have a better chroma key quality.

u/FloatFreely_ · 1 pointr/SmallYTChannel

I can't talk to free editing software, as I have always used Adobe Premier Pro which is around $20 a month.

As for a face cam, when I made gaming videos I would use a Logitech C920. I would use their software to record the face cam, and then add it to the gameplay in Adobe Premier.

For a mic, I have used my Audio-Technica AT2020. I have had this thing for years and it has yet to fail me. I could link it to the Logitech software so I could use it in place of the webcam mic.

Here's what I use. Not nearly the best, but it's manageable for the average Joe or group.

Current

  • Streaming: OBS Studio (Win 0.14.x)
  • Overlay: HTML/Javascript w/ StreamControl writing data to JSON and JS polling it.
  • Capture Device: Startech USB3HDCAP + XRGB-mini Framemeister
  • WebCams: 2x Logitech C920
  • Audio Mixer: Mackie Mix 8
  • Headsets: 2x Audio-Technica BPHS1
  • Misc: Powered Composite Splitter, Behringer HA400 Headphone Amp
  • Stream Tools: Nightbot, TwitchAlerts

    Deprecated

  • Capture Device: Dazzle DVC 100

BPHS1s are kind of the standard for accessible and reasonably priced xlr headsets.

I was getting decent quality out of my old dazzle before I switched, people just need to learn how to setup their bitrate properly to reduce artifacts and how to deinterlace their capture via amarectv or using the built in obs plugins (I used yadifx4 for the longest time) which do a nice, respectable job. Would I recommend a dazzle? Eh, it produces decent video for the price (got mine on ebay for $20), but has some compatibility issues - if you do a quick search for audio issues with the dazzle you'll find a couple threads. There are workarounds, but it's finicky.

Ideally though, streams should be capturing component video. It removes the need for software/external hardware deinterlacing. The issue here is that you either need a TV that supports component, or a component->composite converter, which I've seen people have performance issues with in the past.
My current setup uses a Framemeister to upscale the composite signal and handle the deinterlacing, outputting HDMI to the USB3HDCAP. The advantage is that I get to feed straight composite signals to any plain old CRT, which is great because I've been recording out of a suitcase the last few months while I move around.

I build my overlays in JavaScript and HTML; there's a layer of logic that polls a local JSON file written by StreamControl for changes and updates them on the page.

Just taking off on a flight. More info later. (It's later)

I can give you my setup (it keeps growing each day):
This microphone is plug and play and works wonderfully. I also use Adobe Audition and Virtual Audio Cable to clear any background feedback which makes my voice quality absolutely spectacular in most cases.

If you are looking into a green screen, I honestly recommend just going to a Home Depot store and get a bright green paint. I have realized that the quality of a green screen seems to rely more on the lighting of your studio/setup. To conquer the idea of "perfect lighting" isn't exactly that expensive. I bought a set of the following items on amazon: a bulb holder, a lighting umbrella, a light stand, and a studio quality bulb. Remember these items are just examples but lighting is very important if you indeed plan to use a greenscreen or camera view.

It terms of a webcam, the Logitech c920 is the best bang for your buck in the market.

Headsets can be whatever you wish it to be. I use an old Turtle Beach headset from my Xbox 360 days. It works. If you use a high quality microphone, the quality of your headset isn't too important. If you do plan on using a high quality headset: a surround sound Logitech headset are the best in my personal opinion.

I like to say that my setup is the most ghetto version of a high quality streaming setup. An example of the final product of above hardware and software is here. If you have any questions about these recommendation, be sure to ask. And welcome to the world of home studio streaming!

u/arachnopussy · -1 pointsr/gaming

I didn't ignore the articles at all.

Again, the issue is not with the interface - and I've never claimed it doesn't do what it does.

Yet again, Einstein, the issue is your claim of superiority of this product, not with what the product offers. As far as a computer with those items, my own pc is running over half of it (1080p camera, Bluray drive, HDMI in), and what I do have is miles more powerful than what xbox one claims to offer (I burn blu-ray, capture 4 channels, recording studio level microphones, much more powerful graphics cardS, etc). But again, I have not once denied that xbox one has that hardware, but most of those things are not even the "interface" that everybody is complaining about and definately not exclusive to xbox.

And that's just my personal desk computer. Don't get me started on the systems I build for work...

Back to my actual point again: Your claim that xbox one is offering the ULTIMATE interface solution is laughable.

You (repeatedly) sound like a pothead proclaiming the superiority of White Castle cheeseburgers without ever having been to 5 Guys. Don't waste my time by arguing that the cheeseburger is ULTIMATE by trying to twist it and claim I'm denying a cheeseburger has cheese. Of course a cheeseburger has cheese. There's simply better burgers than White Castle sells.
