So I actually do use a tablet for school that I take notes on and actually have written a few of my reports on as well. Honestly, any tablet would be fine (I'm using a Sony Tablet S. not the Xperia Tablet S, just the Tablet S). What matters is the apps and accessories you use with it.

Apps

I study business, so I don't really need to do a lot of writing. Instead, i type most of my notes out on Evernote. When I do need to write stuff, then I'll use Lecture Notes, though there is a free alternative, but I can't remember its name right now.

Accessories

Unless you choose a tablet that comes with a keyboard (Like some of Asus's offerings, you'll want a portable keyboard. There are some case/keyboard hybrids for certain devices like the one for the Nexus 7 I linked. If not, I highly recommend (and use myself) the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android. As for stylus, I use the Adonit Jot Pro cos it helps me write in my cursive scrawl better than most other stylii. Of course if the tablet comes with a stylus, use that.

You mentioned getting a Note 8. I personally feel that might be a little small, and I prefer a larger tablet, maybe 9.5" to 10", just cause its closer to paper size, so it'll be easier to write on. So i'd suggest a Nexus 10, or possibly a Sony Xperia Z, and also the Galaxy Note 10.1.

I'm surprised the Logitech Bluetooth Keyboard for Android was not mentioned. I got this for $55 dollars in Australia for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 but it works with any tablet that has bluetooth so it should work with N7 no problems. Plus, the keyboard comes with a case which doubles as a dock for tablets. This keyboard also has Android-specific function keys. In my personal experience (note: my experience), Logitech keyboards feel better to type on but, in saying that, I have not used the 3 keyboards mentioned in this article.

EDIT: For those interested, it's $49 on Amazon and you can check the reviews.

I ended up getting the Logitech Bluetooth Android keyboard. Here is the amazon link with reviews. I picked it up for $35 refurbished off of ebay. It's much bigger than the actual tablet, but it's something that I'll only break out if I want to do some serious typing, otherwise it'll stay in my bag. So I'm okay with it. Here is a pic of that keyboard with a small android tab. The other alternative is a much smaller BT keyboard. I would recommend this one based on price and also generally favorable Amazon reviews. It will be better proportional to the Nexus, and will involve some compromise because it is small.

I can't speak for this keyboard but I have this logitech keyboard and it works pretty well, though the battery doesn't last long when I leave it on without use for an extended period of time. I bought a separate bluetooth mouse to go with it. Mainly I use it to use my home PC while I am at work. I highly recommend the Splashtop HD remote desktop app it is well worth the price for how good the picture is as well as the music, movie, and gaming streaming support.

I'm in nursing school and have found the N7 to be very useful in class. Its been handy in looking things up and taking notes. I'm not a huge note-taker, but hammering out some key points is easy. I ordered this keyboard: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-003390-Tablet-Keyboard-Android/dp/B0054L8N7M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1348768936&sr=8-1&keywords=logitech+android+keyboard

I imagine note-taking and general use will be even easier with a keyboard. Have not yet used a stylus but I hear it works well. I guess it just boils down to whether you're a pen and paper kind of guy or prefer an electronic interface.

u/MessyJesse · 4 pointsr/Nexus7

This. I bought this keyboard a few weeks ago and it works flawlessly. It even is designed for Android so it has a Home, Settings, Back, and Search button on the bottom. IT comes with a case so it fits in a backpack or book bag no problem!

Here it is: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Tablet-Keyboard-Android-920-003390/dp/B0054L8N7M

u/bi11y10 · 4 pointsr/Nexus7

Surprise Surprise. I'm literally typing on it right now. Google is a wonderful thing.

But seriously its a fantastic keyboard.

Edit: I actually owned the keyboard you linked for the original nexus 7. Its great if you want a key board and a case all in one, but the keyboard is pretty cramped. Personally I would go with the Logitech and a separate case for when your not typing with it. I suggest the moko slim fit case.

u/tinlo · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

I don't know about designated keyboards, a case with a slim keyboard built in would be nice, but I might just get this Logitech Bluetooth keyboard and a slip cover for the tablet.

You can always get one of these micro-USB adapters and plug any regular USB device into it.

u/civiltribe · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

I have this case and though it's not what you're looking for, it kind of discourages me from recommending any sort of travel keyboard that fits the dimensions of the N7. It's just too cramped at the size, you may be better off with something more like this though I know it's not the style you're looking for, I would definitely suggest getting something a bit wider than the N7 itself. I dunno, maybe some people are able to make it work at that size but I wasn't able to make it very practical and I tried pretty hard practicing on it to get it to feel more natural.

This is the one I have. It's currently $43 with prime.

u/Tylertc13 · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

Seriously, "brah", they're great. I couldn't recommend them enough. I use mine all the time for class. I got this keyboard for it, which was designed specifically for Android Tablets. Along with Write, I literally can pump out all my essays right then and there no problem, while everyone else still has their thumbs up their asses debating about whether to make the thesis about how many people Genghis Khan fucked up or how influential the Byzantines were.

u/mdezzi · 2 pointsr/Android

Bluetooth? Yes.

I have the Logitech Tablet Keyboard and the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse.

I use them both while my Galaxy Tab 10.1 is docked, as well as when I use my HDMI adapter.

u/larsgj · 2 pointsr/Android

I haven't got the GSIII, but I guess that what works for my Gnex must be the same :)

I use a "Logitech tablet keyboard for Android" and a Logitech v470 laser travel mouse.

Both work flawlessly and has good battery life. The keys on the keyboard are really great - like a good notebook.

u/synn89 · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

This works nicely with the N7: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Tablet-Keyboard-Android-920-003390/dp/B0054L8N7M

It works better on the N7 than it did on my Acer Iconia A500

Take a look at the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android 3.0+. I just got it for my Xoom(ICS) and it works pretty well.

That's a good looking keyboard I found, it comes with a stand to lean the tablet against too.

12.3 inches

Never used the Apple keyboard, so I don't know.

u/nickj2010 · 1 pointr/Nexus7

Not sure, I also found http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-003390-Tablet-Keyboard-Android/dp/B0054L8N7M which looks rather nice although it's a bit more expensive and doesn't seem to be available in the UK for me to get one :(

u/potatotron · 1 pointr/gadgets

I just got this yesterday

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Tablet-Keyboard-Android-920-003390/dp/B0054L8N7M

What I really like about it is how the keyboard case turns into a tablet stand.

I typed a couple of emails last night and it worked great; light years ahead of tapping out a message on glass.

u/pablo_the_bear · 1 pointr/Android

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but I plan on getting this as soon as I upgrade to ICS on my Galaxy Note.

I won't be using it for taking notes, rather I will use it for typing graduate school assignments while on the bus/subway/train here in Korea. Yes, I think it is slightly ridiculous, but compared to a) writing things out on paper and typing them out later or b) trying to type something more than two sentences long on a touchscreen I think it is the smartest way to go.

u/tamrinkhan · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

I believe if you really want a keyboard for the Nexus 7 you can get this and it should work with it.

u/Gunski · 1 pointr/Android

I found this one which looks great and has a reasonable price:

Sure can.

Edit The lack of built-in USB recharables might turn you off... But the battery life on this thing REALLY surprised me. Haven't replaced the batteries in it since bought it back in what, March?

u/JDburn08 · 1 pointr/digitalnomad

I’ve got a Logitech tablet keyboard for android 3.0+ (no round keys!) that works a treat with both my iphone and my computer. Only criteria it doesn’t meet is that it’s not rechargeable but it doesn’t matter to me, since I a) I already carry AAA batteries for my dictaphone and b) it’s slightly more compact than average size is a perfect fit for my slightly more compact than average hands - read: it’s the only keyboard I’ve ever owned where I can reach the whole alphabet without needing to stretch.

I don’t have a recommendation for a stand, though; I just pile stuff up.

u/matt_rhorn · 1 pointr/tablets

I don't see it specifically saying that it has bluetooth built in, which is unusual... So you might look to see if it actually does first. I see that it has a OTG cable, so any USB keyboard is fine. Bluetooth should show up in settings under Wireless & Networks. If you can turn it on it's probably there.

However if it does have bluetooth I own the Logitech Bluetooth Android keyboard and it's been a great little keyboard. The case turns to a stand for your tablet. The keys have decent throw for as thin as it is.

My friend gave me this keyboard and have been using it since the HP touchpad. I also bought the mouse on clearance and it's a nice combo.
