I have a solution for you! And no, there is no way to hardwire it since you're one leg short, but there is an RF option.
Step 1: Turn the switched hot into a full time hot - at the switch box, take off the switch and tie the hot and the switch leg together and remove the switch.
Step 2: in the space where you had the old switch, install a Lutron Pico switch. This is a battery powered RF switch that is made in the same size as a decora switch and can come with a mounting braket that fits in the box, can be ganged up with other switches, or you can just screw it into a wall directly without a box. Here is the dimmable version but they can come with just an on and off button in case you don't want it to dim http://www.amazon.com/Lutron-PJ2-3BRL-GWH-L01-Maestro-Wireless-Control/dp/B00IZCQVO4/
Step 3: Buy A Lutron plug in RF dimmer and plug it in the half of the plug that you want to be switched http://www.amazon.com/Lutron-MRF2-3PD-1-WH-Maestro-Wireless-Dimmer/dp/B005AYSMHO
Step 4: Follow the directions and pair up the pico switch to the plug in dimmer...pretty much you hold the off button for 5 seconds until the LED blinks and then you go to the plug in part and hold the test button on that and it will blink when it's ready....you can also do more lights, or a motion sensor, etc...
Step 5: You now have a half hot/half switch that is 100% to code and requires no running of new wire. You have to get a 3 volt battery every 3 or 4 years though.
