I struggled for a while for a couple reasons:

  1. I wasn't using enough colors. I was trying to get away with just using two colors, one on the majority of the lid and a darker one in the outter corner. This was okay. Blending did occur. It just didn't look particularly well done and the gradient was difficult to get right because it kind of went from light color, muddy color, dark color. Using 3+ colors, one slightly darker than the last, makes for a much more complex gradient and the blending then becomes easier because you're not trying to make black flow by itself into beige.

  2. I was trying to go in too many directions at once. When I heard people say "blend" I figured they meant like a KitchenAid blender that goes in circles. This was also okay. It did blend. But it also ended up muddy. Sweeping the brush in just one direction made the colors much less muddy and simply brought particles from one color and carried them into the other.

  3. The damn brush. My MUFE #216 blends like a champ. It also has a smaller head to it so it's easier to blend where you want and not just the entire damn lid.

  4. A base for the eyeshadow. I use NYX's white eyeshadow base over UDPP. The white base keeps the eyeshadows from disappearing.

  5. Not being afraid to reapply where necessary. If I blend something out too much by accident I just reapply the color in the center of the blended area and sweep it back out a tiny bit.
