What setup: 5.1 , stereo, 2.1?

Assuming 5.1:

$180 Reciever
$110 Subwoofer (easily find $10 promo code online, or its $120)
$90 Fronts
$80 Center (matching)
$40 Rears

So that $500, but it doesn't include speaker wires (get 14 gauge oxygen free), stands/mount, cable (mono coax subwoofer cable), etc. Some of this equipment can be bought for slightly cheaper used on Amazon, so you can shave a few bucks that way.

u/zopiac · 6 pointsr/battlestations

Something along the same lines would be the Micca Covo-S, but you need an amp for them (looks like the soundphonics have a built in amp in the larger speaker?). Amps can be had for cheap, but many cheap Chinese amps have a slight buzz in them whenever they're on. I don't spend any real time with super cheap speakers, so sadly I can't give any cheap amp recommendations. I had a Dayton DTA-1 on my Micca MB42X (bigger cousin to the Covo-S) and it was a weak amp, but loud enough, and no buzz. Lepai amps seem to be very hit or miss with their quality.

If you want something nicer, but a bit over $70, there's the Micca PB42X. I mentioned the MB42X, but those need an amp, whereas the PB42X has one built in. It's not a good or powerful amp, but being built in is handy if you don't plan on going for crazy quality. They aren't huge speakers -- about nine inches tall, or six inches if you lay them on their sides. IMO the best sound you can get for this price without scouting for crazy deals on hi-fi equipment.

But of course... if you happen to be outside of the US then I think that availability is pretty poor.

u/Siegfried262 · 6 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

What about the Micca Covo-S?

Though you'd also need an amplifier with those. You could easily get by with a Lepai Amp though.

u/KnipSter · 5 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Take a look at this Micca Covo-S speakers. They are brand new this month. I've been surprised at the stereo imaging that they deliver for small little speaker (they disappear and the music sounds like it sourced from various spots between them.)

They are coaxial 2-way speakers (a little bigger than a softball). Such small cabinets/drivers aren't going to give you much at the low end, but add a small sub later.

As you build out your collection, they'll make decent rears in a small surround system too.

[Add-on: There are larger inexpensive speakers that perform better, but your comment about size make me think these are precisely what you are looking for]

u/concentus7 · 4 pointsr/hometheater

I think you'll do better with some budget Micca speakers and a Denon S540BT. Please DON'T waste your money on that Yamaha sub. Don't get a sub for now and save up for a quality subwoofer that will likely outlive your speakers.

Here's my suggested list:

  • Receiver: Denon S540BT (refurbs from Accessories4Less are very well regarded in this subreddit)
  • Mains: Micca RB42
  • Center: Micca RB42-C
  • Surrounds: Micca OoO or COVO-S

If you wanna go super budget, you could even just do 3 Micca OoO's for your front stage and it honestly wouldn't sound terrible.
u/Copernican · 4 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

It'll be cheaper if you drop the .1 and just do a 2.0.

I am currently running the following desk space saving setup:

Micco Covo-S - $40

SMSL Mini5 - $60

I like the Mini5 because it also powers my headphones if want to use them.

It's better than the Logitech 2.1 system I used to use in college.

But you can get away with a cheaper amp to save some money. Also, if you want to upgrade to a surround sound setup the Covo-S will be good for rear channels.

u/ZeosPantera · 4 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

I have a set on the way. Including the "new" MB42's and the little Covo's which if good will make amazingly cheap rear channel speakers.

u/coconutpanda · 3 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

I have been looking for a similar solution. I want a 2.0 setup for my bedroom where I can pair my fire tv and my echo dot. I was considering using this SMSL amp and the micca COVO-S speakers. I have the micca MB42X in my living room and they are solid, but I think bookshelf speakers are rather large for my bedroom. What I am looking for is something I can play music and tv through that is better than the tv and echo dot speakers. The drawbacks to this setup that I can think of without having tried it yet, is there is no remote for the volume and the fire tv may not play well with the amp's bluetooth. I am also not sure how switching through the bt and aux inputs will work. There are also no reviews for this particular amp on amazon or newegg or anywhere else for that matter that I can find.

Micca COVO-S Compact 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00N8265I8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_9YPlybKD5GBJJ

As per the /r/zeos guide.

u/UTSA_eSports · 3 pointsr/headphones

Micca just came out with some pretty small speakers that aren't bad at all. If you want, you could check those out.

/u/zeospantera also just recommended these recently

u/Armsc · 3 pointsr/hometheater

I would look at these:

  • Micca MB42x $80 - great all around speakers. They don't need a sub but if you're watching movies then get one.

  • Micca COVO-S $40 - Smaller you say? It doesn't get much smaller than this. You'll have to get a sub with these guys but for the price it's totally doable.

  • BIC DV 32 $55 - very small...not as deep as the COVO but a little taller. These have several keyholes on the back for wall mounting options but don't sit quite flush on a table. These guys can get loud but don't reach nearly as low as the other two. Not an issue if you're getting a sub.

  • Sub - don't know the budget but I know the Dayton Sub 800 for $100 pairs nicely with these speakers.
u/dark_tex · 3 pointsr/hometheater

I'm like you, OP. I also am philosophically opposed to spending more on audio than on screen. That being said, good speakers do last for a very long time: if new formats ever come out, you can always upgrade the receiver and you can keep your speakers forever.

I did a lot of searching and I ended up with a good compromise that allowed me to have a LG OLED 65 together with a set of solid speakers.

Here's what you need to know:

- The latest OLED TVs are pretty much the same as last year's. LG B7, C7, B8 or C8 are all the same TV pretty much. Get the cheapest you can find. I bought mine on greentoe.com. I offered 1900$ for a 65' B7 this past April and my offer got accepted. You can even try to price match it with your credit card, I think (search in this sub). This may save you a few dollars more. Bottom line is: you should be able to snatch a 65 OLED for ~1500-1900.

- You can order a refurbished sub for a fraction of the price. I have the Denon X1400H that u/robotdinofight recommended, and I also bought it from accessories4less.

- Atmos speakers are mostly marketing BS. There isn't much sound that comes from above you in movies. That Denon is compatible anyway, so you can always add them later. Before you do that, just go watch a movie in Atmos at a theater.

- Sorround speakers are not that important either. Your dialogue is coming from the center speaker, and music etc will be on the front channels, with just some in your sorrounds more for ambiance than anything else. You can go with *very cheap* speakers here. Source: Zeos's guide here. I ended up buying the cheapest speakers Zeos recommended: Micca Covo-s for 40$ the pair (a factor in my decision was also that I had the speaker stands I was using for the cheap Logitech 5.1 PC system I had. Speaker stands are expensive too so factor in that cost too). These speakers are honestly not great: I tried using a pair of ELAC B6 and yes, sorround was much better. But I like HDR and perfect blacks way more than better sorround, so I ended up returning the ELACs and kept the Miccas as my rear. Maybe I'll upgrade some other time.

- If you are like me and have neighbors and a wife who's not into loud explosion, you really don't need a crazy sub. I have the Elac S10 and that's *more* than enough for us, my wife wants me to keep it down. Get a cheap one! Mine was only about 100$. See Zeos's guide here: https://www.reddit.com/comments/5b1u99

- Invest in good fronts. I have the ELAC B6.2 and while I don't think they sound like the crazy expensive speakers that some friends have, they sound *much* better than a soundbar/integrated TV sound and are great for movies! Important: whatever you buy, you must buy a center channel that matches the left/right speakers. I have the ELAC Debut 2.0 C6.2 center, with the ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 Bookshelf Speakers as my L/R channels.

- Buy cheap speaker wire and strip it yourself!! I'm so bad with practical stuff that I was a bit intimidated by it, but honestly it's ridiculously simple. The guide that I liked before has a section on wires, read it. The sub has its own cable, remember to buy it (I bought the Amazon one).

- Buy cheap HDMI cables from AmazonBasics.

- I have these stands for my fronts: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PYV7LQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Compared to u/robotdinofight's guide, you lose some sound quality, but only where it matters least and you should save some 700$, enough money to go from the TCL to a LG OLED. Hope it helped!

u/Umlautica · 3 pointsr/PCSound

/u/psychojeremy is correct. Try to find the T/S parameters of the speakers and plug them into a calculator like WinISD. If they are OEM speakers though, it might be impossible to find.

If you don't turn up any info on them, you can mount them in truck enclosure for $30 and stuff it with poly-fill from an arts and craft store. If you're spending $30 on enclosures though, you might as well buy purpose built bookshelf speakers like either of these:

u/polypeptide147 · 3 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Howdy. I hope I can be of assistance.

It sounds like you need something small and cheap. We've all been there.

What you have picked out is the way to go. I would have recommended the MB42 instead, but those went up in price yesterday apparently.

They will not sound as good as those headphones. The general consensus around here is that headphones sound better for the same price. However, I hate wearing headphones, so I listen to music exclusively with speakers.

Now, what to expect with them? They sound amazing for their price. And for their size. In that price and size bracket, those are the best you can get.

For hooking them up and what not, I recommend maybe an Amazon Echo Dot. You can hook it up via 3.5mm and play from spotify and bluetooth, set alarms, and stop them just with your voice. There is a bit of lag, but if you're listening to podcasts it doesn't really matter. If you already have the bluetooth receiver that you mentioned, you don't need the dot. Also, don't worry about them getting loud enough. They should do just fine.

I'll make a list of everything you'll need.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Those micca covo-s speakers

Cheap but good little amp. I don't have one of these because I'm not a fan of the looks, but they get great reviews and a lot of people really like them.;

Speaker wire. Amazon Basics makes great stuff. If you want, you can get 100 feet of it for an extra $2 I think. You don't need banana plugs. They're for quick swapping of speakers, and if you only have one pair it doesn't really matter.

Simple wire stripper. Should work just fine.

Cable to plug it in. Amazon Basics stuff is excellent quality. Especially this cable. I was honestly blown away with it when I got it. And I'm not kidding. This cable is amazing.

Your lucky day. The echo dot is on sale

-----------------------------------------------------

That's it. Everything you need. Enjoy!

And currently I just turn the TVs and computer on manually.

I built my own speaker grills out of foam board and acousticly transparent cloth.

u/neat_username · 3 pointsr/hometheater

That's up to you. A bluetooth speaker does not make home theater sound. A bare bones set up would be a two channel receiver (ideally a five or more channel option if you're building for the future) and a pair of miccas or something similar. You can use the micca's in the interim as your mains as a 2.0, and then move them to surround duty if you go that route in the future.

The Denon x1300w is recommended here for being relatively future proof, but it's out of your budget. If you're looking to expand down the line, it'll hold up for a while and it will give you flexibility for the future.

This is the cheapest receiver that you can use for 5.2 from a reputable brand.

This baby Dayton sub can provide your low end and should hold up for a while.

u/Bill_Money · 3 pointsr/hometheater

I'd swap those out and grab either the Micca MB42 (not the X) http://www.amazon.com/Micca-Surround-Bookshelf-Speaker-MB42/dp/B009IUIV4A?ie=UTF8&keywords=micca&qid=1464149086&ref_=sr_1_3&sr=8-3

or the micca Covo S http://www.amazon.com/Micca-COVO-S-Compact-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B00N8265I8?ie=UTF8&keywords=micca&qid=1464149086&ref_=sr_1_4&sr=8-4 for surrounds. Majority of your sound will be coming from your front speakers & your sub. The surrounds imo are the least important & you don't need to go crazy especially if working on a budget.

You could also eliminate the surrounds entirely & go 3.1

What on earth is wrong with the "massive speakers?" Some of the best speakers you can get for home theater are that size. If he gets a matching center channel (for timbre) and some of these for the back then he would be fine:

I just bought those and they are fantastic for surrounds in small areas. Due to your sectional you might have issues getting surrounds back there so you might have to mount them on the wall. Or, look into in wall/ceiling speakers.

Without a lot of info, but assuming you want to keep it all pretty basic, this is my best shot. Before taxes you're at $687, but you could downgrade the sub to the Sub-1000, or skip the rear channels altogether for now. You'll need some speaker stands for the front, mounts for the rear, speaker wire, etc. So, not a perfect list, but here we go:

Hi, I saw a suggestion to buy this micca speakers. So here are my questions.

  • Do I need to buy this and what it is for? Lepy AMP

  • Do I need to buy speaker wires if I am only going to use it for echo dot or my PC?

    Thanks!
u/slippery_salmons · 1 pointr/pcgaming

Audio Problem I'm having, hoping someone knows the answer. Six months ago I bought an Amp Lepy LP-2024A and Micca MB42X speakers. When I would be on my computer with the amp on but not listening to anything, the speakers would make a whistling/swirling/popping/static/white noise. If I played any sort of sound through the computer, I couldn't here the noise anymore.

A month or so ago I moved the MB42X's to my living room and put a pair of Micca COVO-S speakers on the Lepy amp. The noises are still happening, but I'm noticing them more now, and I can sometimes here it over music or games that I'm playing.

Is it just a bad amp? I also have an SMSL DAC+Headphone amp powering some Philips headphones. The headphones do not make any noise.

Excellent point...and pretty much why I decided on trying to get an AV installer...I'm completed baffled where to put them.

  • I was considering the Polk Aurdio OWM3 in white or the Micca COVO-S compact bookshelves after seeing Zeo's review of them...they seemed like they would potentially could be slipped into an arm of some sort, mounted at G0 or L0, and angled down towards the main viewing area without being too obvious.

  • Then I learned how important it was to be at ear level from a prior post. At the time I was so desperate that I was considering trying to do wireless surrounds as bookshelves that I could just move into place on movie night at positioned marked "Gx and Lx (near the middle of the wall)" since "G0 or L0 (Mounted on the upper wall)" didn't seem very reasonable since it was so off of ear level. I figured that on movie night I could just use a rocketfish setup to slide a surround into position @ Gx or Lx and plug one of them in for a few hours...and maybe keep one on a windowsill (@ Gx) ready to go to make it even easier.

  • Completely confused, I had a local AV installer stop out and they suggested that perhaps mounting at G0-2 or L0-1 may actually be possible. They even thought that a bipole (or even a monopole) would be possible. Ultimately they suggested the Paradigms bipoles listed above.

  • Honestly bipoles or monopoles (Eg Polk Aurdio OWM3 or Micca COVO-S) don't matter too much to me...as unobtrusive as possible would be preferred. Bipoles sound like perhaps they may be better for non-standard seating at a love seat, at the kitchen table watching TV, or just playing some music for the holidays...but I'm certainly open to suggestions!

  • I was considering asking for an alternate surround from what the AV installer, but quite honestly, I don't know how to best compare them with my current layout, equipment and future plans. Could a ceiling speaker be added in or sliding a wireless speaker into Gx or Lx in the next 5-10 years? I have no idea...it sounds great in theory, but I have no clue what would be recommended or most flexible. But if there is an installer that can help out and provide guidance, Im more than willing to go with whatever they recommend

I think I decided I don't want to go all out for my first entry-level audio, especially since I just moved into a new apartment, i want to keep the volume reasonable low. But i do want the surround sound effect.

I was thinking about just getting these speakers since they are cheap and im sure will be a huge upgrade for me coming from just regular TV speakers from a 2008 plasma TV.

Glad I found this sub.

A couple weeks ago I bought this amp and these speakers after discussing it with a good audiophile friend of mine as a sort of beginner's setup for my computer. (Along with some generic speaker wire and banana plugs.)

Setup went well, I made my cables with some banana plugs, got everything plugged in and good to go, sounded great. The banana plugs took me a couple tries, but I felt like I got more used to them after all the cables were done.

Now I'm a little ways in and I'm starting to experience some issues with the left speaker. When I play with the cables a bit, wiggle them around and stuff, the sound is intermittent, cutting in and out of that side. If I just leave the amp alone, it's usually fine. But every so often it'll just stop outputting sound, just at random. I'll move the amp a bit, just a nudge, and the sound comes back. It's not a huge issue, but of course I'd rather not deal with the mild inconvenience of having to adjust the amp randomly, from now on until eternity.

If I plug the right speaker into the left's channels and vice versa, everything is fine. Nothing I can do will make the sound stop on either side. It's just that left speaker on the amp's left channels. And drilling a little further, I think I've narrowed it down to just the positive terminal on that left channel with the left speaker's cables.

Everything I know from other general tech troubleshooting tells me this is just a loose connection in that cable. That doesn't quite explain why the left cable works fine on the right channel, but I know audio connections can be very finicky.

I'm wondering if anyone here maybe has another diagnosis or something I should try out?

I doubt it has anything to do with the amp itself but the return window for that is closing soon. What I was going to do next is just completely redo the left side's cable, since I have plenty of wire left. Probably even replace the plugs, since I still have one set left.

With that budget what I would do (and really, what you'll have to do) is start with a 2.0 system then add to it as you can to flesh it out to a full 5.1 system. With that in mind, this is what I'd get to start:

Receiver $150: http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/onktxsr313/onkyo-tx-sr313-5.1-home-theater-receiver/1.html

L/R main speakers $80: http://smile.amazon.com/Micca-MB42X-Bookshelf-Speakers-Tweeter/dp/B00E7H8GG2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1425795857&sr=8-2&keywords=micca

When you can set aside more money get this sub $130: http://smile.amazon.com/MartinLogan-Dynamo-300-Theater-Subwoofer/dp/B004LRPXAU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425795895&sr=8-1&keywords=dynamo+300

This center channel $60: http://smile.amazon.com/Micca-MB42X-C-Channel-Speaker-Tweeter/dp/B00HHFBEK6/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1425795935&sr=8-7&keywords=micca

And finally, these surrounds $40: http://smile.amazon.com/Micca-COVO-S-Compact-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B00N8265I8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1425795935&sr=8-3&keywords=micca

You'll have nice sound with the receiver and 2 main speakers. As you add the sub, then center, and finally surrounds it will just get better and better.

Buy both of these and you're good to go. Bass will be ok but not great. The amplifier is some of the dirtiest and most distorted power you can get but it'll still be better than what's in those computer speakers.

Honestly if I were you, I'd save up another 70 dollars and go with the cheapest system recommended in the sticky.

I'd like to purchase some computer speakers (I've been using headphones). What's good under $40? I'm looking at these right now: Micca COVO-S Compact 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers Speaker wires are also required, can I get an inexpensive recommendation?

u/GoldenGateGeek · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

If the mechanism for the amp is too big, then that makes sense. Like I said, I'm pretty into the audio side of things.

Thanks for the recommendation for the amp by the way, that's very nearly double what I'm trying to spend on the whole set up. As I mention in the post, I will be using the speakers only on occasion and will still primarily be using my headphones as my daily drivers.

I took a look at the recommended bookshelf speakers list, and I'm liking the Micca COVO-S for a combination of size, prize, and aesthetics. I think I'd be willing to drop ~$30 at most on the amp itself as well.

I'm probably in the wrong sub to be bringing this up, but I guess given how little I'd be using it, I'm considering just dropping ~$20-30 on a bluetooth solution for economy and simplicity too.

I saw those they’re about the size of what I have now I saw this would these sound nice?

Here are ny shitty speakers https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00N8265I8/?coliid=I22UAKVWQSK1N7&colid=4CPRNO6Q8AA7&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it still sound great compared to tv

u/SomewhatSadRobot · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

I mean you can get compact bookshelf speakers.

Something like the Micca Covo-S paired with a SA-36 or Lepy amp would probably be better than almost all "pc speaker" kits.

u/DerNubenfrieken · 1 pointr/audiophile

Right now I have some old, terrible, but small speakers that I use just for my desk (I have big boy Polk Towers surrounding the TV next to the desk) for times when I want to use my computer for watching videos and such. Want to replace them with something better, but still really don't want to spend much (as the sound quality isn't a huge deal). Any suggestions for small (< bookshelf) sized speakers?

EDIT: For reference, something along these lines

Thanks!
I'm currently using these bois, with an SMSL Q5 Pro. They sound pretty good but most importantly are small enough to fit under the monitor.

As for the wallpaper, I just got them today - they're from ghostly international, specifically this collection

u/blackjakals · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

You're not going to find great speakers that small, but your best bet might be the Micca Covo-S. Check it out here:

Hey! I know this isn't really headphones advice and more audiophile advice, but I'm hoping you guys can help me. Currently I have both my PC and PS4 hooked up to my Fidelio X2's through an Uber Schiit Stack. I've been toying with the idea of getting desktop speakers, and because of needs and wants i'm looking at the Micca Covo-s.

My question is this. Could I have these just add on to my current set up? If so, how would the speakers decide to play the PS4 audio or the desktop audio. ^^also ^^because ^^im ^^a ^^noob ^^i ^^don't ^^know ^^what ^^cables ^^and ^^stuff ^^to ^^buy ^^so ^^any ^^help ^^is ^^much ^^appreciated Thanks!

You'll be vastly better off with a 2.0 (or perhaps 2.2 setup, with those speakers) than you would be with a hodge-podged surround setup using mix-matched components. A soundbar is not designed to be a center channel speaker. Discard it, and use the new speakers you bought to create a "phantom center." This will sound much better anyway.

If you want rear speakers, spend $40-75 on some Mica surround speakers or something. Don't try and mess around with bluetooth transmitters or anything.

u/possiblyaccurate · 1 pointr/hometheater

Here's what I would do if I was purchasing right now, this is assuming the room isn't huge and you aren't sitting a mile away from the TV. Some of these are some decent sales.

TV: 55" TCL TV ($380)

AVR: Denon S530BT ($150)

Sub: HSU VTF-1 MK3 ($430 with shipping)

L/R: ELAC Debut 2.0 B5.2 ($250)

Center: ELAC Debut 2.0 C5.2 ($190)

Surround L/R: Micca Covo-S ($45)

Speaker Wire: Amazon Basics 14 Gauge ($16)

Total: $1461

Probably will go a bit over $1500 with tax, but I think this would be an extremely impressive first home theater and is what I would do if I was starting fresh with that budget.

u/Botoj · 1 pointr/audiophile

I'm looking to cobble together an inexpensive 2.0 setup for my desk. I've purchased an amp, a Lepy 2020a, and now I'm looking around for a set of inexpensive bookshelf speakers. My budget for speakers is $100 Canadian and preferably as far under as I can go without wasting money, and my only real sources to purchase a set from is Amazon or Best Buy Canada. My options right now are the PrimeCables 6.5" bookshelf speakers ($50, rebranded Dayton Audio B650 non-air??), the Micca COVO-S($50), and at a fair stretch, the Micca MB42 non-x($90).

Both the COVO-S and the PrimeCables sets are $50, and I can't seem to find many reviews to base my decision on. The Miccas at least have a hyper-critical review from NO Audiophile and a highly lauded review by ZeosPantera, but I can't find much on the PrimeCables speakers/ I've read that the manufacturing process of the B650s has been degraded however, and I'm worried that's been carried over to these rebrands. Would either of these options be worth the $50, or should I really just wait a bit longer and grab the MB42s? Is there something else I haven't even considered or come across? I have looked around my little city for second-hand gear, but there's really nothing interesting (some really old Paradigm V2 Titans with busted speakers...).

I will be using whichever speakers I get for games and music. I'm not upgrading any existing speakers, I'm simply finally getting around to picking a set up. I'm used to headphones, Sennheiser 449 to be exact. I don't have any experience in "audiophile"-level hardware. That's why I'm here, hopefully somebody who knows a bit more can guide me down the right path.

u/loaba · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile
  1. yes, those powered speakers will be better than the Logitechs
  2. I'd go with SMSL SA50 and Micca Covo-s - that's just north of $100.00

Atmos is a configuration that uses a traditional surround sound setup (5.1 or 7.1) in addition to speakers in the ceiling. There are significant technical details that are different, but all you need to know is that it uses in-ceiling speakers.

Take a look at this site https://www.dolby.com/us/en/speaker-setup-guides/index.html. It will give you some info on what the speaker setup differences between traditional surround setups (5.1, 7.1) and atmos setups (5.1.X or 7.1.X) are. The speakers you have right now would ONLY be used for the in-ceiling speakers (the .X part of the setup).

If you want a 5.1.4 setup (5.1.4 overhead speaker setup in the guide I linked), which takes advantage of 4 of your in-ceiling speakers, it's possible on your budget, but obviously won't be the best around.

This fits into you budget of $500 receiver, $200 on speakers, and $200 on subwoofer. It is pretty much the lowest quality speakers/subwoofer you can get that are still respectable. But you will probably be just fine with it.

You'll also need speaker wire, subwoofer cable, etc., which will run you another $75ish maybe.

That totals $908 leaves you some extra for banana plugs, wiring, mounts etc. which can be had for cheap on Amazon

  • Some of the speaker mount kits come with 4-6 mounts which could be used for all the speakers run $10-$30

  • If you don't get a 9.2 Atmos you could shave about $250 off the cost and just get a 5.1 Receiver that decodes just up to Dolby True HD, and DTS - MA which would be plenty for a novice

  • The 9.2 Receiver would allow him to add another Sub or drive better speakers later if he plans to upgrade

Was looking to add 2.1 system to my bedroom that I have, starting off with your recommended Micca MB42x, but was thinking of maybe going 5.1

I can do the the first three speakers up in the front, no problem.

With the space that I have though, would you recommend in-ceiling speakers for rears?

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=micca+in+ceiling

If you don't think in-ceilings are a good, would placing rear speakers in the back of a listener be a bad? The best I could do is having them wall mounted. Seating area is about in middle of the room.

EDIT: These for ceiling mounted rears if all the way to the back wall placement and in-ceiling speakers are not a good idea? I like the small profile which will be much easier to mount https://www.amazon.com/Micca-COVO-S-Compact-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B00N8265I8/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

If all this sounds bad, then I guess 2.1 can do lol

Thanks!

ah ok, as for other equipment, i found these and i'd like to know id there are any good, small, and inexpensive amps i could use?

u/Happy_or_Hangry · 1 pointr/diyaudio

Depends what size you want to make of course, but I think you can find a video of someone building one using these little Miccas, that would be pretty easy! Of course for bigger, just bump up to their center channel, and even bigger... a pair of the MB42X’s, even bigger, a pair of the centers ;)

But building it all DIY would be more satisfying :)

Plenty of companies offer space saving solutions. What about in wall speaker systems? Virtually no footprint. Ease of use? Again, plenty of capable satallite/ sub HTIB.

Since Bose refuses to offer Specs for their lines of audio, I am unable to provide hard data to back up these folling claims. However, I do have a calibrated measurment microphone with audio analysis software and would be willing to test any of these and compare.

Why don't you use these as the rears?, they're pretty small enough if you're concerned about size of speakers.
