I think that's what he's talking about, it's the one I was talking about. Not an affiliate link. Just sharing.

It is possible, but you're going to have to drop $300 and put in a good 2-4 hours of work, with some wiring that is not for the faint of heart. The end result is very much worth it IMO, I have an experience that is virtually close to stock. I put the car in reverse and the center screen automatically flips to the reverse camera, which looks just as good or if not better than my previous 2016 charger. Even gives me dynamic steering wheel lines.

I bought this:

This:

Optional: This allows you to mirror your smartphone to the center screen wirelessly. Works fantastically for google maps.

Seriously, though. Amazon-Google rivalry meant that Amazon didn't sell chromecast for a long time, and Google still doesn't support their services on Amazon ones (I think they recently shut down YouTube on Amazon devices too).

I use the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter because it works with all devices at all times.

u/tyzbit · 2 pointsr/NoStupidQuestions

If you just want a "dumb" screen, the HDMI cable is still your best bet. If you've got a smart TV, it might advertise itself as a secondary screen wirelessly (possibly through AirPlay or wireless HDMI).

Even if you don't have a need for all the functions of a Chromecast, they're pretty cheap and still pretty useful.

If your adamant about just doing video and have a dumb TV and don't want to run a cable, this or something like it may work (disclaimer: I don't know what else you might need to work with this; you might have to do some more research)

edit: I did a little research myself since I don't like not knowing things. If you get the product linked above, you should be able to "cast" to it wirelessly if your laptop supports "Miracast". To find out if it does (if you have Windows 10) hit Windows+K to bring up the "Connect" function (or you could click the action center on your taskbar, then click Connect".

If it says "Your PC or mobile device doesn't support Miracast, so it can't project wirelessly" then it won't work. Otherwise, you should be able to plug in the device I linked above into your TV and connect to it using Windows+K, then use it just like it was connected by HDMI

Is the TV behind you? Try a mirror LOL

Remote desktop programs are going to be too slow.

https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-P3Q-00001-Wireless-Display-Adapter/dp/B01AZC3J3M/ref=pd_sbs_147_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01AZC3J3M&pd_rd_r=50ZYZNTWVDEDQ5QGZXJW&pd_rd_w=v1Mrx&pd_rd_wg=qd03N&psc=1&refRID=50ZYZNTWVDEDQ5QGZXJW

Only other option would be a cheap projector projecting on the wall next to the TV, if there is space. That and the steam box.

I lucked out and we only use Windows 10 in our environment. Any Windows 10 devices casts to our conference room with this adapter:

https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wireless-Display-Adapter-P3Q-00001/dp/B01AZC3J3M/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Microsoft+Wireless+Display+Adapter&qid=1573500831&sr=8-3

You mentioned you have Macs in your environment as well. Maybe use one input for the display adapter above and another input for an apple TV for casting with the iOS/MacOS devices?

u/Tobimacoss · 2 pointsr/Windows10

You can just use an HDMI cable from PC to TV, it will allow you to simply screen share, or use the TV as second monitor.

Or you can buy the MS Wireless Display Adapter to give Miracast functionality to your TV.

u/SurfaceDockGuy · 2 pointsr/Surface

Hi there are two viable ways to connect here:

  1. The Dock has a MiniDisplayPort output. To connect to your TV, you need an "active" MiniDisplayPort -> HDMI adapter. See this article for the best options.
  2. An alternate approach is to not get a dock at all but instead a wireless Miracast dongle device that plugs into the HDMI port on your TV. The Surface can talk directly to this device. Microsoft makes one that is available worldwide: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wireless-Display-Adapter-P3Q-00001/dp/B01AZC3J3M You can also try the Actiontec brand which Microsoft worked closely with. For web surfing, video, and regular applications it will work OK. It is not good for gaming due to lag, however.

    Cheers,

    Dan

Wireless Display is in preview right now but it is unavailable if you didn't download the app from the preview dash a few months ago.

Also, you could get a miracast dongle and just plug it in the HDMI in if you wanted to. Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wireless-Display-Adapter-v2/dp/B01AZC3J3M/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1466628924&sr=8-5&keywords=miracast+dongle

I regularly use my Surface with the display adapter, BT keyboard/mouse/speaker to watch videos on my TV. Truly wireless!
u/SteveMcQueen87 · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

Somebody recommended this to me a few weeks ago. It's not the best thing in the world but it works. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01AZC3J3M?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd

u/ABrokeJoke · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

We use these at work, should do the trick.

u/it_monkey_manifesto · 1 pointr/techsupport

For Windows I assume? Microsoft has a display adapter that works pretty well with Windows 10.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-P3Q-00001-Wireless-Display-Adapter/dp/B01AZC3J3M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1538072541&sr=8-2&keywords=microsoft+display+adapter

Apple? AppleTV

I see someone else mentioned Airtame. There are others like that out there too but none are great tbh.

edit: also, the Microsoft Display Adapter can be PIN or password locked so only authorized users can display to it.

u/M0nkeyWithAGun · 1 pointr/cordcutters

ah ok. So, what kind of live streams are they? Maybe roku has the ability to get those as well? OR maybe an nvidia shield might give you options for live streaming the content you want.

Actually, i just looked up aceplayer. Miracast might be exactly what you want.

im not too familiar with miracast hardware, this seems like the safest way to get what you want though.

u/haekuh · 1 pointr/hardware

If your TV has a USB port then you can use this. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wireless-Display-Adapter-P3Q-00001/dp/B01AZC3J3M/

I use one and it works pretty well. Windows 10 has built in support for it as well. If you dont have windows 10 then I would do some research. Make sure your desktop has some sort of wireless device as well.

I should note that some people report having bad issues with it so your mileage may vary. I do not have any issues however.

u/CouldPossiblyBeABot · 1 pointr/Windows10

You could use miracast for 1 monitor and a wireless HDMI dongle for the 2nd monitor.

https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wireless-Display-Adapter-P3Q-00001/dp/B01AZC3J3M/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1549559640&sr=1-10&keywords=wireless+HDMI

Though if you have any way to do it with cables, it's going to be way better.

u/seasleeplessttle · 1 pointr/Surface

This for displayand this Cable reaches from bed to tv in most rooms. I use this regularly also.

u/Raider1284 · 1 pointr/oneplus

you could get a miracast hdmi dongle and i believe those just work locally from your device. something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-P3Q-00001-Wireless-Display-Adapter/dp/B01AZC3J3M
