I have these and they work well for my 5'x6' playspace.

u/Zetaphor · 4 pointsr/oculus

Yes, that should be enough room, though more is always better. Get rid of your furniture! That TV is going to get punched if you're not careful.

Seriously though, that is an adequate amount of space. Here is the official guide for setting up the best possible roomscale experience.

Your 3 sensors are going to be setup similar to how you have them now, with the third being directly across from one of the current two, like an L shape.

Throw down a small rug or mat in the middle of your playspace, this helps to keep you centered so you have a more tactile sense of where you are in the room (in high intensity situations, Guardian is not enough).

Consider looking into overhead cabling, it's around $20 and is super simple to setup. Additionally look into wall mounts for the sensors. 3M strips are your friend.

Check out Sensor Bounds to help maximize your sensor coverage. Check out Cable Guardian to help prevent cable wear (basically required if you use overhead cable routing)

Lastly, try out EchoVR once you have all of this setup.

They also have a pack especially for the Rift which has less pull since the cable is lighter than the Vive one. Will have even less tug on the head.

I recently upgraded to use these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XY5WKXW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Now I never step on cables. It significantly improved my immersion!

I went with https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XY5WKXW/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apap_gjLvsgLqYCki4 and have been with it so far. Only ended up using 3 of the retractors for setup and gave the others to a friend.

u/gman877 · 3 pointsr/oculus

Yea man. You're not the first to have these issues. So, there are easy answers to both those problems.
I'd guess extension cables are needed for most setups, mine included. I don't understand what's different, but I've seen you need to get "ACTIVE" USB 3 extension cables to help prevent latency. They aren't much more expensive than a non-active type. ($10+ for 15 feet).
I have some regular 10 foot USB 3 cables... no problems

As for cable management - that'll depend on your room setup of course. Since you mention ceiling mounting, get some really long cables, and check this link. Just search amazon for "oculus rift cable management" or something similar. Plenty of options.

I have my cables tethered/hanging overhead from the ceiling. I use one of those "Amazon VR Cable pulley systems". Cost like $20.

I bought this for my Oculus Rift, but it's identical as the pulley systems advertised for the Vive.

However, it will be VERY obvious to you when you need the third sensor. You'll find yourself frequently facing the direction without sensors and visual glitches everywhere, trying to turn around and deal with whatever in game objective you were dealing with previously.

If your not experiencing this then wait :)

This is the one I bought. Haven't had any trouble with it at all.

u/Shayneros · 2 pointsr/gaming

Get some of these to hang the cable from the ceiling. It's made my VR experience a lot better. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XY5WKXW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/russsl8 · 2 pointsr/oculus

I just stuck these to my ceiling. I'll deal with having to patch the ceiling when it comes to that.

My PC is in my partly finished basement BTW, so no real worry about anything there.

Image of my VR space, currently using 3 hooks. Probably could have put more thought into my routing, but it's working pretty well for me so far.

Starting from the front left of my space, over to the back left, and then over to the middle so the cable comes up behind me when I'm standing in my "default" location. This keeps the cable stowed when I'm standing in the center, and there is plenty of reach to the far corners, and when I turn to my left it stays out of my arms reach. I also have a third sensor just off screen, next to my flag.

Hooks that I'm using, there's probably a cheaper set out there somewhere but these have done well for me so far. Disclaimer: haven't tried to remove them from the ceiling yet, not sure what kind of residue or damage they might cause.

u/KryptCeeper · 2 pointsr/funny

you can buy retractable cable management hooks on amazon for less than 25$

I used this, cord still kind of twists around so I worry one day the cord will go out because of all the twisting, but I never run into it and never run out of slack, I also put 6 ft usb hdmi and usb3 extensions on my headset (no active extension just regular).

I got those things recommended with my rift purchase on amazon, it would be something very similar. You may be able to find them cheaper though

u/Hruntington · 2 pointsr/oculus

I have provided the links to the products I use.

If you think you're going to be sweating quite a bit (perhaps because of beat saber) I recommend a different facepad by VR Cover.

https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Facial-Interface-Replacement-Hygiene/dp/B01MQZVF6K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1541091609&sr=8-2&keywords=oculus+face+pad

Like TOO_FUTURE said before me, definitely set up a ceiling rig so you dont have to worry about cables running around the floor.

https://www.amazon.com/MIDWEC-Packs-Management-Oculus-Headset/dp/B06XY5WKXW/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1541091631&sr=8-10&keywords=oculus+accessories

Lastly, you might want to think about investing in a 3rd Oculus sensor. Having that 360 degree coverage and not having to worry about facing forward all the time will make your VR experience that much better.

Surprised no one has suggested an overhead cable system to you?

I use something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/MIDWEC-Packs-Management-Oculus-Headset/dp/B06XY5WKXW

It's not perfect, and you have to experiment to get the best setup, but it works pretty well, as long as your ceiling isn't too low. If you do try this, be sure and get one specifically for the Rift since the Vive has a heavier cable and there will be too much tension if you use a system made for it.

u/BL24L · 1 pointr/oculus

Yeah I checked it out again and it's more like $60 to do it correctly @ 16' with a repeater and ceiling mount. Think that $80 - $100 included extending the sensors.

Still it gets to the point that's it's enough money that I would prefer to spend more and have the headset wireless.

I see other people have already answered, but mine just uses carbiners so it would take you 2-3 minutes to rehang them.

This is the one I have. There are more expensive options, but I wouldn't both with a pricier one if you plan on taking it down between sessions.

u/money_sandwich · 1 pointr/oculus

I use these:

https://www.amazon.com/MIDWEC-Packs-Management-Oculus-Headset/dp/B06XY5WKXW/

Same cost, no need for drilling, more connection points and looks way less ghetto than dog leashes.

These ceiling mounts are awesome: https://www.amazon.com/MIDWEC-Packs-Management-Oculus-Headset/dp/B06XY5WKXW

I've had mine up for about a year now.

Blir tokig.

Get something like https://www.amazon.com/MIDWEC-Packs-Management-Oculus-Headset/dp/B06XY5WKXW
after turning around in circles a few dozen times, you'll notice your cable, but up till then, it's great.

u/qixiza · 1 pointr/oculus

I installed these ceiling hooks for my rift and it works very well. I used Command Velcro strips to attach them to the ceiling so they can be removed in the future without damaging the surface.

I use the Midwec system.

https://www.amazon.com/MIDWEC-Packs-Management-Oculus-Headset/dp/B06XY5WKXW

Works well. Needs a bit of measuring though to get exactly right. Once you have it setup correctly, you won't even notice the cable anymore.

I'm using this:

I think the problem is my ceiling is just too low. I can touch it with my fingers. When my kids use the same system, it works fine, but I'm too tall so the suspended cable is always bumping into my face.

Would you mind telling me how you arranged your retractable lanyards? Always looking for suggestions on this topic ..

I really want a wireless option but this works as well (Cheaper than a wireless version and it's pretty much the same)
