Agreed. His critical perspectives remain valuable and insightful. One reason why I don't like the blanket criticism of "it's Marxism!" from JP and some of the more one-eyed and unthinking of his ilk on this sub-reddit. (It's also another reason why I think that outside of certain areas, JP's understanding of many of the concepts he talks about is actually quite shallow.) Removing powerful tools of critical analysis just means you have less ways to analyse and understand what is going in the world around you. It's like having one less eye to see with. It cripples you.
I'll add "Closing of the American Mind" to my reading list. Thanks for the suggestion. If I might, likewise, recommend a book to you, it would be Bauman's "Modernity and the Holocaust". It is very good.
