Exactly. You also have to consider that many owners in Europe are now looking to embrace a more 'American style' system as well. The Champions League changes or Superclubs breaking off and forming their own 'party' is exactly that. Rich people attempting to protect their investments without as much risk.
I understand why they want to do this. However, as a fan we should not support this. It's not good for fans, competition, or labor. As it is now a majority of profits get funneled back into the club to remain competitive and hopefully secure ever more profit. Every year each team tries to improve themselves. That does not happen in the US.
If you (or anyone else) is interested in the financial side of soccer I highly recommend this book.
