If it helps, the 32GB version is $200.

Edit: It looks like Amazon has the 32GB version for $180.

u/AttackHelicopter_ · 21 pointsr/shittykickstarters

It's pretty easy. Just go to a site like Amazon or Swappa and get a used phone.

Or if someone wants something brand new, they can get something like the following

  • Moto G plus (gen 5) - this one also has a version for prime subscribers that has ads, but is a little cheaper.
  • Moto E (gen 4) - also has a prime version.
  • BLU R1 HD - also has a prime version
  • Samsung Galaxy J5 - turns out Samsung has budget phones too
  • Nokia 6 - also has prime version

And if Android One ever comes to the US then that means the market for cheap phones here will just explode.

> "What will it cost? A flagship price is all but guaranteed"

In 2015 I paid $400 for a new Nexus 6.

Before too long I'll need a replacement that will work on Project Fi, and I think that over $600 for a phone is unreasonable, especially with so much competition and how rapidly new models come out.

I have a Nexus 6, Nexus 5x, and a Galaxy S8. As much as I love my nexus 6, I would no longer recommend it for most folks due to the lack of official updates. Its definitely got a enthusiastic following in the developer community, if you are willing to put custom ROMs on it. Since it's going for $180 on swappa, I would instead recommend a G5 Plus which is currently on sale NEW for $200. That should definitely hold you off until a new Pixel is released.

Edit: buy the one without ads if you want a unlocked bootloader (e.g. root, custom ROMs).

Moto G5 Plus?

It's gonna stomp any of those phones IMO.

u/Ghigs · 3 pointsr/NoStupidQuestions

You must be looking at the wrong phones. I just bought one for $200:

https://www.amazon.com/Moto-Plus-5th-Generation-Lockscreen/dp/B01N5MEKSW?th=1

It's out of stock right now, the 64 gig version is available for $300 though.

(BTW don't buy the "offers and ads" version unless you don't care that you can't root it or unlock the bootloader, the regular version is only $15 more anyway)

u/marklxndr · 3 pointsr/kitchener

I went with Public Mobile and bought a phone outright. I pay ~$120 every 90 days for 12GB data and unlimited Ontario calling (it's prepaid and the data is spread across the 90 days). I also get some discounts for autopay ($2/month) and referral credits ($1/referral/month), and every year you're with them you get another $1/month off.

I recently had to buy a new phone for my wife (she's on the same plan and her Nexus 5X died), and I ended up with the new Nokia 6. She's had it for about three weeks now and loves it. I had to order it from Amazon.com (US), but it was $229USD + ~$30 duty/tax/shipping. https://www.amazon.com/Nokia-Unlocked-T-Mobile-Exclusive-Lockscreen/dp/B072C2F3X1/ref=sr_1_3?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1501766787&sr=1-3&keywords=nokia%2B6&th=1

It looks like the Nokia 6 is out of stock, but the Honor 6X is also pretty well-reviewed and a little cheaper: https://www.amazon.com/Honor-6X-Unlocked-Smartphone-Gray/dp/B01MRZFBBH/ref=sr_1_3?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1501766838&sr=1-3&keywords=honor%2B6x&th=1

After hopping a VPN to Amazon.ca I'd recommend you spend $20-30 more and buy a Moto G5 Plus

Make sure you are looking at this one and not the dual sim one:

https://www.amazon.com/Moto-Plus-5th-Generation-Lockscreen/dp/B01N5MEKSW

You can pick between lockscreen ads (cheaper) and more storage ram.

And for the GS7. Something like this:

Not sure if you can get it in the EU but there's a good discount on the Motorola G5 today: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N5MEKSW for $179.

u/Sinfall69 · 2 pointsr/LifeProTips

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5MEKSW/?tag=thewire06-20&linkCode=xm2&ascsubtag=AgEAAAAAAAAAAH_O Yeah but if you have something equivalent that will last at least a 1 year at 212 dollars and probably get just as much use...so it ends up being ~2 cents per use. This isn't saying to buy premium products, it is more that it's better to spend an extra 5-10% if you get a lot more life / use out of it.

u/vigilant_human · 2 pointsr/PickAnAndroidForMe

NO! Dont buy HTC M9! That phone is a portable heater. NO seriously!

You can get a Moto G (same devices used on Webpagetest) anywhere from $84 USD (https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Moto-1st-Generation-Unlocked/dp/B00GWR36F6/ref=sr_1_6?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1499457364&sr=1-6&keywords=Moto%2BG&th=1) to the "latest" editon for $229 w/out amazons bloat ware :) https://www.amazon.com/Moto-Plus-5th-Generation-Lockscreen/dp/B01N5MEKSW/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1499457364&sr=1-1&keywords=Moto%2BG&th=1

I mention these because I don't know if you can instal chrome on a fire table (couldn't a while back when I looked without doing sideloading google play)

u/Defcraz · 2 pointsr/MotoG

Import it from Canada.
I'm in Canada and I wanted the G5+ (we only got the G5 here) so I had to get it from the Amazon US site.
You'll have to pay custum duties unfortunately, but with the exchange rate it will come cheap.

I'll suggest the Moto G Plus (5th Generation)

https://www.amazon.com/Moto-Plus-5th-Generation-Lockscreen/dp/B01N5MEKSW/?th=1

even with exchange rate and shipping it's just aprox $350

u/loathsomeresistance · 2 pointsr/Android

I don't know if it's that good an idea to buy a Galaxy S5 right now.

Consider a Moto G5 Plus - for $230 (one-time, no 2 year carrier lock), you get more storage, newer Android version, and a bigger battery.

u/ITman2000 · 2 pointsr/PickAnAndroidForMe

Just that i have heard about some negative reviews of the 6x, such as it doesn't have the latest operating system nougat 7 despite it being more up to date than the 5x. and the lack of security updates. (If you don't mind). But you also have the [g5 plus] (https://www.amazon.com/Moto-Plus-5th-Generation-Lockscreen/dp/B01N5MEKSW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1493688245&sr=1-1&keywords=moto+g5&th=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=phones0b87-20&linkId=948f1176fe91c3d42dd18265b9a751fa) which has 2 versions, the 2 gb ram, 32 gb storage and 64 gb storage and 4 gb ram version. The 32 gb internal storage and 2gb ram version is for $229. The moto g5 plus has the latest nougat 7 and cleaner software experience. But the battery life is pretty much decent with a better performance than the 6x.

There are a few options:

  • OnePlus 3T. For price, right now it costs $599CAD from OnePlus's website. As for the design it has a sleek all metal body without many distracting features. It has a 16MP camera and you can see some pictures from it here. And while it is definitely common among this subreddit, I haven't ever actually seen one in real life. And don't feel ashamed, I also like when someone notices the walnut wood back or my laser engraved name on my Moto X 2014 and I get to say "Yeah, that's real wood." For wifi it supports 802.11ac which has a speed limit of 1331Mbps so it should be fine on your network. The North American model also supports all of Telus's bands (Koodo seems to use Telus's towers). It runs OxygenOS which is OnePlus's stock ROM that is extremely close to vanilla Android, just with some extra customization features. I basically describe it as a stock version of a custom ROM. However it does have extremely good 3rd party development support if you ever want to mess with that.

  • Moto Z Play. Right now it costs about $549CAD on Amazon Canada. For the design it isn't as sleek as the OnePlus 3T (in my opinion) but it is still pretty nice if you put on a Moto Mod or one of the back skin covers sold by Motorola (which I suggest you do). The camera is also 16MP and it's pretty good but like most Motorolas it isn't so good in low-light conditions. The Moto Z itself is pretty common however I can't say anything about the Moto Z Play. However there are different Moto Mods and back shells you can use to customize the look to your liking. For wifi it has 802.11n which is limited to 450Mbps, so while not as fast as the OnePlus 3T it should still be plenty fast for your network. The XT1635-02 model should also support all of Telus's bands. And for software it also uses a close to vanilla version of Android.

  • Moto G5 Plus. This one is a little difficult to get in Canada because it's technically for the US. However you can get it on Amazon Canada for about $449CAD. It also has a pretty good design. And for the camera it can be described similar to the Moto Z Play's camera but with a 12MP sensor. Can't say anything about it being common but I know it isn't as common as something like an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy. It also supports 802.11n and as long as you get the right model (XT1687 or XT1681) it should work on Telus's bands. It uses pretty much the same software as the Moto Z Play.

I took the 4GB model just to future proof it so it would be able to hold up for future updates. I didn't need the storage boost but that's convenient to come with as well. Also people do sometimes complain in reviews of the 2GB model that it lags at points so that helps with that too, very little extra cost

4GB version is $229 (unlocked, without ads)

2GB version is $209 (unlocked, without ads)

Also, if ordering on Amazon, be sure to use smile.amazon.com to donate a percentage to charity at no extra cost :)

Not true - the motos are all carriers - sprint, verizon, att and tmobile. I highly recommend a moto over the zenfone 2 even if you move to att. Right now you can get the moto g5 plus for $180 on amazon (the ad free version). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5MEKSW/ref=twister_B01NCYZTP4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Even a moto E4 would be decent.

If you plan to move to att then cricket also is a good choice which uses att towers. They have discounted phones - even free ones if you activate in store. Even an iphone Se for $230.

AFAIK, there's no official shell grip like the older 2nd and 3rd gen models. but in the Amazon's "Customers who bought this item also bought" section of Moto G5 Plus' product page, you'll find many good suggestions.

They're selling on Amazon new for $230 btw: Link

Personally, I'd go with G Plus with a good case.

It'll check all the boxes while remaining on the cheaper side in case an accident happens.
