Buy your own modem, the price they charge you to rent a modem is not worth it.
or
*edit, update: BUY YOUR OWN ROUTERS TOO!
under $100. I was considering this one

> This router/modem (would be nice if there was a combo solution)
Good routers and good modems don't come in a combo unit. Just like how a boatcar generally isn't a decent boat or decent car.
If you want good stuff. Buy them separately.
Your ISP will generally be willing to rent a modem to you for about $5/month. If you're willing to go through the work of setting one up yourself, and will be using it for a year or longer, then buying one is more economical.
Make sure whatever modem you get is compatible with DOCSIS 3.0.
I would recommend this modem. It's not too expensive and more than good enough for your needs:

For the router, this one will be excellent for most apartment situations:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BUSDVBQ/?tag=thewire06-20&linkCode=xm2&ascsubtag=AgEAAAAAAAAAAB_u&th=1
If you're in a larger house(2500sqft+), there are much more high end options we can discuss.
Well, I doubt you'll find a modem/router combo for $100 or less..
I'd got the separate modem + router route.. for the modem either the Netgear CM500-1AZNAS, or the Arris SB6183
and for the router, something like a D-Link DIR 878.. this is an AC 1200 class router that supports MU-MIMO which is important if you have multiple WiFi devices in use..
Now I am not all that familiar with FIOS but I do believe that you can use your own router so whatever router you get, so long as it supports gigabit ethernet, you can use it with whatever service you end up with after your move.

Depending on server location I can be as fast as 220 down and 30 up
I pay for 200 Mbps connection about $85/mo. I usemy own equipment, including modem. That using 5GHz wireless. It's faster when networked.

I won't use Mediacom provided equipment.
Never hit the 2TB cap. Not even close. We stream exclusively and game. Even when the kids are home on holiday.
For routers, anything with decent reviews on Amazon will probably get the job done. I tend to go with Asus and TP-Link, but there are lots of good models out there. I've had mixed results with Netgear and Belkin in the past, but worth it if you find one on a good deal.
For a modem, anything DOCSIS 3.0 or up should do for most people. Eg:
Of course, if you have specific high-end needs, these might not quite meet those, but I doubt whatever xfinity has you using would either.
You know you can buy your own, right? You can get a good one for under $60 and save $5/month on your bill, so it pays for itself after a year. I bought this one last year https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XH46MWW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
What do you consider affordable? Just about anything would be better than using the modem/router combo. Wireless routers mostly are in the $20-80 range but high end AC routers can be well above that (and almost certainly an unnecessary expense). Cheapest recommendations I would make are probably around $50, give or take $10.
All I have read about modem/router combos is that they are basically all universally terrible. I'm not sure if that it is the entire router functionality or just the wireless. If you are renting it would be much better to just get your own modem anyway. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XH46MWW/ is a good router for $50 (after $10 coupon) which won't take long at all to recoup in modem rental fees.
Just following up... They already boosted it. My modem is currently maxing out at 130mbps. Bought this modem to support it:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XH46MWW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For me, it was $5 more a money from what I was paying, so now it's $85... Pretty happy right now. Also 20mbps downstream, finally like a real western country downstream from charter.
The CM400 isn't enough for 200Mbps plans in the US according to this http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-cable-modem/
If you're shopping at Amazon, I'd go for the CM500 over the CM400 since it's $50 (clip the $10 coupon) vs $45 right now.
Just say no to combo units. Always buy a separate modem and router.
Motorola/ARRIS modems are good, but a little expensive right now. Here is a Netgear modem that looks pretty good.
Thank you, I was just referencing this on Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-CM500-1AZNAS-download-Certified-Cablevision/dp/B06XH46MWW/
However, I can understand the advertisement throttle to sell higher priced models.

Buy this router:

I’m not going to downvote you. But you should get a dual band router since he is in a populated city. Multi hundred dollar routers are not worth it for a single router. It’s not going to be any better than a cheap single router.

Never tried to cast a stream, and I have never checked If there are blimps in my up time so not sure if these will be of any help to you. However I haven't had problems in the past year streaming from Netflix or Amazon or extended outages in Woodfin with Spectum except during power outages. I've been using this modem off their approved list and this router
Sorry late response to your comment
I was wondering is the 3.1 only required for the 500 or 1 gb plans?
I have a Netgear CM500 (16x4) and didn't know if it would work for the 100 mb plan. Thanks

I picked up this Netgear on Amazon, there is a requirement list on Grande. Once you have the modem call customer service and they'll help you switch over to your modem, then you just have to return the modem they left you.
Ive had no issues with this one in over a year

What's your guys opinion on this? It's like the cheapest one on Amazon with the highest stars and reviews. My router is this guy
the router i got was the Netgear R6700 model AC1750 (i assume you live in a house, so probably bump up your model number so you can get a bigger range, i got the cheapest one cuz im in an apartment)
and the modem was Netgeart CM500 (again, choose a pricier one depending on how many people will be using the internet and if you need 1gbps speeds or something)
both seem good so far, unsure on longevity but my previous modem/router from netgear was like 6 years old so they seem built well.
This is my setup:
Modem: NETGEAR-CM500
Router: Netgear-ac1750
If you want me to find something for you to buy in the next few days message me with your price range and I can help you out. (I work in IT if that gives it any justification :P)
I went through all this with TWC and now RCN, so here are my thoughts:
About 3 years ago I bought for $110 this
But indeed now there is the
Not every location in NYC can received at DOCSIS 3.1 speed, so if you would go for a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, make 100% sure you can get that speed and you are willing to pay more for the higher speed. I had 220 at TWC but moved to 165 at RCN as it is actually already plenty for me.
tl:dr: I am at 165mbps with RCN with the Netgear CM500 modem and everything works flawlessly.
Check Amazon today for deals on Netgear stuff! Here's one that will fit your requirements.
Alternatively, if you want to go two separate devices: modem and router option.
Would this setup be any good as good replacement?

Also when you mention the Archer AC1900. Are you talking about the router I linked in my previous post? It cost $99 on Amazon with no coupon but it seems like it can be had for $70 after the coupon is applied? I just want to be sure I'm getting the right one.
The TP-Link Archer C5 for <$50 is generally considered the best value router. The modem depends on the internet connection you plan to use, for cable this Netgear modem for <$50 is usually considered the cheapest decent one. Do check with your ISP to confirm compatibility. Never ever buy those combo modem-router-in-one boxes, they don't work for shit.
Att site should list compatible modems. I prefer a separate modem and router for easier control and troubleshooting. The modem needs to handle at least 300mb like this. https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-CM500-1AZNAS-download-Certified-Cablevision/dp/B06XH46MWW/ref=sxin_2_ac_d_pm?keywords=netgear+cable+modem&pd_rd_i=B06XH46MWW&pd_rd_r=fd5b5847-86a5-44f6-ac60-39a3a0965ef9&pd_rd_w=9Z4xl&pd_rd_wg=RwZPt&pf_rd_p=64aaff2e-3b89-4fee-a107-2469ecbc5733&pf_rd_r=CK31S9SR1ADGY5C4RHGX&qid=1563045613&s=electronics

If your budget is really that tight, this is the way to go instead of renting their equipment. You can find stuff a lot cheaper than this is you pick it up used.
You could buy your own for under $100, here's an example. They'll probbaly sent you a Motorola or arris. Those are probably 125 to 150 or so.
You'll need at least 1 cat6 cable and 1 coax cable if you go this route.
