Owned these before moving on the the HD 598, AKG K7XX and Philips Fidelio X2.

Can say these are one of the best entry level headphones especially for those looking for some good audio on the PC.

Plus points are :

  • Good bass for movies and games
  • Light weight and super comfortable. Can wear all day without realizing its on your head.
  • Open back headphones so no stuffiness in the ears from humidity building up
  • Low impedance so doesn't require an amplifier to get the best from it

    Cons

  • Sound leakage since Open back
  • You enter into the audiophile world that starts you on the quest for the perfect headphone/sound

    Optional accessory:

Braided Cable replacement: This is an excellent choice if you prefer to have braided cables over the stock ones with a much shorter length.

In that case, you can buy a OEM replacement cable, or you can get a 3rd party one [like this one] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KAKGQCQ/) that's braided (I can attest to the quality slightly, I've been using it for a month and no wear yet) and a little higher quality.

Camel price history (previously hovering around $89)

Pretty neat set of portable headphones that I was planning to pick up. Note that apparently the cable with the mic and controls kinda ruins sound quality, but thankfully it's also detachable so you can get a solid replacement cable like this one if you really want to.

Holy shit for real? I was being a dick too man, I apologize. People who've bought into gaming headsets often don't like hearing they aren't the best investment so I guess I'm prone to being salty with them.

If you want my recommendation for VR with the Vive I've been recommending the HD 558s for a number of reasons. They are really decent quality overear open headphones and the material on both the ear cups and the headband should hold on to your head well in use in VR while you're moving all around. These headphones (along with the 598s) have an amazing soundstage for gaming as well. Because they're open you're going to be able to hear the world around you, this might sound immersion breaking but I think you'll find that it's not and it's the trade off with open headphones and having a good soundstage. It also has the added benefit of being able to hear people while in VR though.

Now, coming from gaming headsets the bass might sound a bit lacking or they might not seem to pop as much but that's due to a more realistic and neutral soundstage. I am 99% sure you'll get used to it. As I mentioned about the 598s are also great and maybe even a little better but the headband is made out of a pleather material that tends to slip, so I can't recommend them for VR.

The 558s are about $100 and are easily one of the best pairs of headphone you can buy at that price point. For VR I would recommend picking up this as the included cable is very long (great for couch gaming, not for VR).

For a mic in VR I'd say just use the one in the Vive. For desktop I use either my Blue Snowball or my Blue Yeti.

Alternatively, This cable is pretty swanky.

Whoa, that's a really fast failure time. Could you tell me what cables you've tried out? I'm actually planning on getting a pair of HD518's when they go on sale with this third party cable.

I bought this cord for mine just recently that I got for $99, and I can vouch for their quality. Shipped really quickly for it being from China too.

I grabbed this one from Amazon for around $20. Certainly could have found something cheaper but the cable looks awesome and feels incredibly durable. Took a little while to arrive but other than that I don't have any complaints.

I love it as well. I just transferred schools and hardly know anyone, but all I've wanted to do the past few days is show it off to some people who might appreciate how awesome it sounds!

I have the 518s, which are actually supposed to be more balanced than the other two. If you do end up with a pair of the 5_8 sennheisers definitely get a replacement cable, the one that comes with them is a 1/4" and they trow in a 1/8" adapter which is pretty stupid.

This is the one I got: www.amazon.com/dp/B00KAKGQCQ

I use Sennheisers which have replaceable cables. Bought a hard braided cable to replace the stock one and have never had issues with it ever. I guess it helps that I never unplug it either, but I don't think it'd tangle even if I did. The cable is just stiff enough that it never twists and doesn't fold on itself easily.

> Braided Cable replacement: This is an excellent choice if you prefer to have braided cables over the stock ones with a much shorter length.

Thank you so much for recommending this! I have gotten so pissed at the damn stock cable over the past year of owning the 558s. It's ridiculously long and unwieldy. I keep most of its length bundled together on my desk to keep from running it over, but that bundled part always falls off. I just Prime'd myself the cable you linked. It'll be here tomorrow!

I personally use Creative Aurana Live! 2 with Asus Xonar DGX. That combo is very cheap and has insane quality and surround if properly configured. When it comes to audio never buy anything marked as "gaming".

Creative Aurvana Live! 2 (Around $60-$65): https://www.amazon.com/Creative-Aurvana-Headset-Drivers-Line/dp/B00FC2R7ZC/

Asus Xonar DGX (Around $40): https://www.amazon.com/Xonar-DGX-GX2-5-Audio-Engine/dp/B007TMZ1BK/

I don't recommend buying anything other than DG (PCI) or DGX (PCIe) since the software will be different and it might lack some options.

Better Cable (highly recommended): https://www.amazon.com/NewFantasia-Replacement-Upgrade-Sennheiser-Headphones/dp/B00KAKGQCQ/

The default cable is thin and only coated in rubber while the Sennheiser one is sleeved and very solid. It also delivers a better quality of sound.

Those products might look old and not gamer like but I have personally tried even $150 sound blaster ae-5 card and this $40 innocent looking card beat it hands down.

Can't tell you how many times I got called out for wallhack in CS:GO due to amazing surround depth and sound separation.

If you will decide on that I can even give you instructions on how to configure it. I'm using this combo for few years already.

Hi. I would like to sell them as a bundle. One of the cables is always available at Amazon. You can get it from there:

I've got a mic 2.5mm to 3.5mm that can be used with the Senneheiser HD5-- line and the Audio Technica M--x line or any other headphone or input with a 2.5mm female port. Here are the amazon pages for each:

Microphone cable

1.5m cable

The 1.5m cable is brand new. The mic has been used a couple times, but it's in perfect working condition. $20 for both.

u/Shake_Oh · 1 pointr/headphones

It should be fine. But if you are worried about it, why not use the 4.5' 3.5mm cable that comes with them? If 4.5' is too short and 10' is too long, then there are really cheap replacement cables that are between those lengths for ~$14.
