I think that 1440p 144hz would be a better choice especially when you mentioned that you prefer quality over ultra high fps. 1080p 240hz would be a good choice if your main goal would be focusing on some fast paced online shooters like CS:GO, Overwatch, etc. You should be good with that 390 on a 1440p 144hz until Navi arrives. Additionally Freesync will still be providing you with a smooth gameplay experience even if in some games you won't be able to hold a stable 60fps (on your current GPU) and considering that you're upgrading your GPU every 4-6 years - yep, Freesync will matter to you more than you probably think ;).

I'm also thinking about getting a new monitor for a Zen2+Navi based build in ~mid 2019 and my preferences are basically almost the same as yours with that focus on quality rather than 200+ fps and GPU upgrade cycle (every 4-6 years).

I'm kinda eyeing Nixeus EDG 27 and Pixio PX277h. Both are IPS, EDG 27 (from what i have heard and read) has really good (one of the best) Freesync implementation (in comparison to the most 1440p 144hz monitors) and PX277h additionally has HDR + quite thin bezel. That PX277h as of right now seems like THE perfect '1440p 144hz IPS HDR Freesync' monitor, but sadly it's only available in the US. Here's hoping that Pixio will make their monitors available to the rest of the world before Navi gets released heh.

Edit: Generally 1440p 144hz is a sweet spot right now. Nicely balanced with that high refresh rate and good resolution between 1080p 240hz and 4k 60hz stuff. Once you go 144hz (or higher) - you're never coming back to 60/75hz

u/spyder256 · 5 pointsr/Monitors

Not possible unfortunately.

However the Nixeus EDG 27 seems to have pretty decent QC. I have one myself and mine is pretty good, very little BLB and glow. (adjustable stand version doesn't seems to be available unfortunately...)

u/nopokejoke · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Nixeus has a 2k 144hz IPS freesync that worked great for me, but the bezel is the size of a fucking tire.

Here it is. It goes on sale for $350 from time to time.

u/Prefix-NA · 3 pointsr/Amd

Get the Nixeus Edg27 its $400 on sale right now 30-144range its the best 1440p 144hz IPS panel on the market.

144hz
30-144 range
AHVA (IPS)

4k is meh and for desktops text is hard to head.

1440p is the good spot to aim for. And 60hz in the current year is a meme.

u/erogilus · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Consider the Ryzen 5 1600/2600 + B350 board. The stock cooler on the Ryzen 5 is adequate as well.

Don't buy DDR4 lower than 3000 MHz. It's all so expensive, get yourself some decent speeds.

Go with the Corsair RMx550 PSU, cheaper and 10-year warranty. You won't need more than that for your setup.

Consider the Nixeus 27" monitor as well.

u/Mr_Evil_Guy · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I went from 60Hz 1080p to the Nixeus 144Hz 1440p: https://www.amazon.com/Nixeus-27-Inch-FreeSync-Certified-Range/dp/B071G6PGP7/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1521752299&sr=1-2&keywords=nixeus+144hz

If you have a high-end GPU, I think paying for a nice monitor is a must. It makes no sense whatsoever to have a 1070 or better and not have a monitor that can handle >60 FPS or >1080p resolution.

One thing I'll add is not to cheap out on the monitor. Read reviews from as many different sources as possible and compare them to the price tag for each model. Better to spend $450 for an awesome monitor than $350 on a "meh" one.

u/padmanek · 2 pointsr/Monitors

>IPS would be ideal but I would be able to make the exception for TN if it's good and cheap.

1080p 144hz IPS displays do not exist.

1440p 144hz IPS displays you're looking at minium $400.

u/Mr_Wood1440_ · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Tbh, lots of things is account for a monitor. The resolution (1080p, which im guessing your going for, 1440p, or 4K, which is probably what you are not going for as there is no 144hz 4K monitor :p), next would be the size (24 inch, 27, etc.), which company (doesn't play a huge role but its good to buy from a company you know well), and few smaller things which i wont mention.
If you have a 1080Ti, 1080p is overkill, and 1440p is most likely your bet.

Anyways, sorry for a long post. Thanks.

If you don't care about GSync, the best deals currently are Nixeus and Pixio both ~615CAD after shipping+tax from amazon.com. They're both 27" 1440p 144hz IPS panels with Freesync.

If you're going to get a colorimiter I'd go for a ColorMunki Display as it's the same hardware as in the XRite i1DisplayPro with some of the pro software features locked. Spyders are overpriced in Canada imo, as well as slightly worse than the Xrite stuff.

u/gayben · 1 pointr/Monitors

The Nixeus EDG27S looks like it might be a good fit, it checks all the boxes except for GSync. There are two versions of it, one with an adjustable stand and one with a pretty crappy tempered glass stand. The crappy stand version is significantly cheaper at $420, and if the stand bothers you then a good VESA stand or arm wouldn't cost too much and is reusable for future upgrades.

u/Dokomox · 1 pointr/hardware

If you don't mind big fat ugly bezels, the one on the EDG 27 is supposed to minimize back-light bleed fairly well.

u/rolfraikou · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

$420 on amazon which isn't too much more. (I would do newegg, but after a million emails back and forth, they just refuse to accept my payment info. So I literally cannot shop with them.)

u/jaykresge · 1 pointr/Monitors

For 27", 1440p, 144hz, 'IPS' (AHVA panel), the best one near that price is the [Nixeus EDG 27] (https://www.amazon.com/Nixeus-27-Inch-FreeSync-Certified-Range/dp/B071G6PGP7/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1520018526&sr=1-2&keywords=nixeus+edg+27), currently $420 on Amazon. It routinely hits $400, so shop around.

If you value G-Sync due to using an Nvidia GPU, you can get the same specs (TN panel instead) from the Dell S2716DG/DGR, which routinely hits $399 at various outlets.

Be patient and you can score either at $399.

u/PostalFury · 1 pointr/buildapc

I would recommend the Nixeus EDG27S (The EDG27 has an adjustable stand, but it's $50 more if that's something that's important to you). It does have thicker bezels than the PX277, but that does help prevent potential backlight bleed that comes with an IPS panel. Nixeus also, by most reports, has the best implementation of Freesync in the EDG. So...

Pros (Nixeus):

  • Theoretically less backlight bleed

  • Better Freesync

  • Faster response time (6ms on the Pixio? Ouch)

  • Good warranty (3 years)

    Cons:

  • More expensive (Only $10 more)

  • (Neutral) Thick bezels

    ---

    Pros (Pixio):

  • Cheaper ($10 cheaper)

  • (Neutral) Thin bezels

    Cons:

  • More susceptible to BLB

  • Poor build quality

  • Poor brightness, color calibration, and quality control

  • Poor warranty (1 year)
u/LoneKrafayis · 1 pointr/Monitors

It sounds like the monitor has had some rough treatment. The white dots that do not move are usally tears in the front polarizer. Lost connections could be the cables being bent too many times or ports have been damaged. Perhaps try with a new cable on each port DisplayPort/HDMI ?

Replacing your monitor with the same model would cost about $265. Getting an off-brand 1440p 144 Hz gaming monitor will be around $410.

Wow that was fast! Do you think there's any comparable differences to the Nixeus NX-EDG27?

u/Vontellor · 1 pointr/Monitors

I'm not sure which is the refreshed design, but this is the exact model I bought: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071G6PGP7

I'm also using dual monitor VESA stands, so if the tempered glass base won't cut it for you, then take that into consideration.

u/RainbowUnicat · 1 pointr/Monitors

Thank you for your reply kind sir.
However I don't really get why 1060 is not enough for 1440p.
My last computer was a laptop with a 880M and had a 2880x1620 resolution. I really noticed this difference between my laptop and other monitors.
From this benchmark the 1060 is way superior, it goes in hand with the processor. Is the size of the screen a heavy factor in performance ? Should I buy a 24" then ? I don't really mind if I can get closer to my laptop resolution.
I surely will loose in fps but as long as I have 60fps I will be fine with it. I will always have the possibility to lower the resolution of a fps(shooter) if I want more fps. And when I will upgrade the gpu I won't have to upgrade the monitor.

For now I think I will be looking for a sales between this kind of monitors :

no G-sync

no Ips

both

What do you think ?

u/zenki_ · 1 pointr/Monitors

Depending on what you play you won’t have too much issues going 1440p. Unless you mainly do competitive games then the smaller res/size might be a better option.

If you plan on upgrading down the line and still want AMD then freesync is the way to go. Recently upgraded to this display and was really surprised. Do some research on this one Nixeus EDG 27

u/looncraz · 1 pointr/Amd

I don't think it's a small market at all. IPS response times are just fine - 4ms would be easy to tolerate for the benefit of a high refresh rate IPS monitor. Going with 1080p would appeal to the mass market.

Basically, this monitor at 24" and 1080p is exactly what I want - and I've seen many others say the same thing. Of course, 1440p would be all the better, but 1080p already requires me to zoom into absolutely everything.

Monitor number 1, when in stock sells for $300. It is a IPS freesync 1440p 144hz display. If you are willing to spend $100 more you can get a nexius display that has all the same stats (this is monitor number 2), just a better return policy because they are based here in the states.

There is a 27 inch version of the 24 inch dell I recommended early.

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DGR-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B0149QBOF0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1519176733&sr=8-2&keywords=dell+27+inch+1440p+144hz

It's significantly out of your price range though.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071G6PGP7/?tag=pcpapi-20

I found this one which is 27 inches and freesync and IPS.

If you don't need one right now I'd recommend you set up a price alert on a pcpartpicker search.

Here is one for monitors bigger than 26 inches, 1440p/4k, with a refresh rate of 100hz or higher. You could also set it to only look for g-sync/freesync or IPS monitors too.

I have seen Pixio New Px277 and Nixeus Edg 27

Both are 400, similar specs (27', 1440p, 30-144Hz FreeSync, IPS). The big difference is that Pixio has an arguably prettier design, but has a nonstandard lower position for Vesa, potentially worse panels and worse customer service.

Ultimately, I think I am going to go for the Pixio panel personally though.
