"Not God" by Ernie Kurtz is probably the best one that I have read. You can also read a lot about AA History in "AA Comes of Age", "Pass it On" and "Dr Bob and the Good Old Timers" which are 3 books published by AA.
The film Bill W (2012) by page 124 productions is the most honest documentary I have seen and covers a lot of the history of AA and one of it's founder members - Bill Wilson.
You should be able to get them all on Amazon second hand for a few bucks.
