"Most economical" is almost certainly to keep what you have. If you can get the keyboard repaired and a new SSD installed for "a couple hundred dollars" (200 USD?), plus 65 USD for 8GB of RAM, that's not very much money at all to get a very decent machine working well.
Obviously the newer models are faster. If you've been itching to upgrade this might be a good time. You could probably sell your current busted one for 200-300 USD on ebay, or repair it and sell it fully functional for 400-600 USD (depending on exact condition, model, etc).
Processors haven't changed THAT much from year to year. The biggest benefits from going to a 2015 would be much better screen, newer battery, SSD and RAM are already upgraded, newer ports, etc.
