The answer is the Panasonic chargepad. Here it is on Amazon. Ten out of eleven reviews are 5-stars.

u/BostonGraver · 6 pointsr/Nexus7

I have one of these at work. I can manage to fit the Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 on it such that when one finishes charging it automatically switches to the other.

I love this (Japanese) one from Panasonic:

http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-QE-TM101-K-Black-Wireless-Charger/dp/B0051R4ECM

It's a large-ish pad that senses where your phone is and internally moves its charging coil to wherever your phone is. You NEVER have to orient it, it does the orienting for you.

Nice. Alternatively for those without many spare hours on their hands:

I got this charger so I could just throw it onto the charger. Man I love it. Just chuck it on the pad, and the head moves to the phone to charger it. So much easier then trying to align it correctly.

Ok, this one is more expensive than the $30 you listed, but I just got it in the mail yesterday and I have to say it's amazing. I found a link to this on xda.

The n7 is larger but because the charging node moves to the right location automatically, I was able to place the N7 on just fine and charge it. The best part is the moving node. No worry about syncing it up properly. Plus, it looks bad ass.

Shit, show here a QI charger. Like [this] (http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0051R4ECM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00) one, where the charger moves to where you set the phone down. Maybe /r/Tasker, too.

I've tried a couple Qi chargers, but, in my opinion, Qi is not robust enough to be actually convenient unless you buy a charger that actively finds your phone and moves the charger into place itself. Otherwise you spend as much time getting your phone lined up properly as you would plugging in a cable. This is what I use:

If ease of placement is critical, can't beat the Panasonic Qi charger.

http://smile.amazon.com/Panasonic-QE-TM101-K-Black-Wireless-Charger/dp/B0051R4ECM/

Main downsides are no trickle charge functionality and some people have had the moving internal mechanism break over time.

u/wag3slav3 · 2 pointsr/Nexus5

To me it was worth the extra money for the magnets in the OEM charger, works great for my Nexus 5 and 7. Getting the coil lined up was a bit of a pain on the cheap ones. Plus the magnets are strong enough you can superglue the stock one to a post and use it as a car dock for the 5!

There is also another one that a little more expensive that moves the coil to the perfect place for best charging.

I'd say try out the cheap ones, they'll charge fine, but if you get tired of picking up the phone in the middle of the night or want a car dock take another look at the OEM dock or the QE-TM101. It might be worth your money for a location or two in your day.

have a tylt charger at work, and the Panasonic TM101 motorized charger on my night stand. I love them both and no more wires!!!

Expensive and instructions are in Japanese, but it is the best charger I've used. You can place your phone anywhere on the matt and in any orientation and it will find the "sweet spot" and charge. It is the first truly drop and go wireless charger I've used!

Also charges through my ringke fusion case.

I had the Choe Stadium and even with its 3 coils I still had to fiddle with the phone placement to find the "sweet spot". It also died on me after a week and a half.

I got this charger for my Nexus 4, which has a nifty feature that the charger has an internal motor that auto-aligns with the charging element in your phone. Tried it out today and works great with the N6 as well!

These all work perfectly...including trickle charging to keep phone charged over night. I know this because I either have or use all these charging pads frequently. Some of these can be found other places than were I linked for way cheaper. I think Verizon sells the lg one for $30

The G3 is quite picky with wireless chargers or chargers in general for that matter.

I have 2 of the Panasonic QE-TM101 Charge Pads.
http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-QE-TM101-K-Black-Wireless-Charger/dp/B0051R4ECM

They have always worked well for all previous Qi enabled phones (Nexus 5, Note 2, etc.). However the G3 will always complain "slow charging" regardless of how I position it on the Charge Pad, with or without a case. See image here (not mine: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7501/16237781855_1dde777699_z.jpg)

It does charge in time though, just annoyed by the message which also comes with some beeps. G3 Tweaksbox has an option to disable the Slow Charging message but that didn't work for me.

So I bought the WCD-100. And it works really well. It charges fast and without any errors. BUT only if I use the original travel charger that came with the G3, which seems to be rated at 5V 1.8A for its output. If I were to use even a more powerful charger like a Samsung 2A one that I am using now, it will still show the slow charging message sometimes. Very annoying. It does work still though.

TL;DR: Get the WCD100 and use it with the original travel charger that came with your G3 for the best experience.

If you are worried about the 'sweet spot' then one like mine might be in order:

http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-QE-TM101-K-Black-Wireless-Charger/dp/B0051R4ECM

Not easy to find any more, and only ever sold in Japan originally, but it moves the charging coil to the phone, so you just slap it down and walk away.

It's so darn convenient with the Panasonic QE-TM101 charger. I feel like I'm Tony Stark when I put my Nexus 5 on this puppy!
