If you go with a cheap brush, splurging on a good cream is worthwhile.
If you go with an expensive brush, Col. Conk is good enough.
Cheap Brush / Expensive Cream
Expensive Brush / Cheap Soap
The stand does not make a bit of difference, and a mug is a mug, unless it's a scuttle.
They are great! I have a sampler on the way. Amazon screwed my order so I had to re-order; only got the razor so far but should get the blades in today. I am also expecting this cream , this brush, and this nick relief. I am moving to another country so I wanted to have a complete set lasts me for a while.
I am looking forward to getting better at this whole thing!
No problem. The nice thing about the 71R is that it is 3 pieces and all screws together. I had a friend that had a cheap butterfly razor and it kept coming loose and cutting him. You can get whichever you like as far as soaps go. Col Conk has a few different scents : Amber, Bay Rum, and I think Lime. The scents don't last for a long time. It's mainly what the lather smells like, that's all. I would suggest investing in a nice badger hair brush but those can be rather costly. It all depends on how serious you are. You can get a kit like this one but I would go for this one and any bowl will do. Hell, you can use a large coffee mug if you want.
I've owned a similar brush from the same company for about three months now and I like it. It's held its bristles very well and there are no signs of wear on the handle. It's not the softest brush, but I like a bit of stiffness in my bristles; they exfoliate better that way.
