To put it very basically, your system would benefit from your ram having as high a frequency (the mhz number, 2400 and 2666 in your example) and as low a cas latency (16 and 19 in your example) as possible. To roughly quote Buildzoid, the frequency is how fast your ram is and the cas latency is how responsive it is; imagine someone who has the job of running to a warehouse, finding a specific item, and running back. Somebody who runs fast but sucks at finding things would have a high frequency but also a high cas latency. If they run really slow but are also very good at finding things, they'd have a low frequency but also a low cas latency. Ideally you'd want someone who can run pretty fast and is pretty good at finding things, even if they're not the very best at either of those things.

Because you're using an Intel cpu it doesn't matter quite as much overall (compared to Ryzen chips) but you can still see performance gains from better ram. I'd recommend aiming for 3200mhz cl16 (like this) if you can afford it as it's essentially become standard. You might be able to find 16gb as low as ~$50 if you come across a sale- I haven't seen any kits lower than $50 though.

damn my ram arrive tomorrow, not sure if I should return it..
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B016A29PWA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

should I return it?? the difference can almost get a 960 evo for system boost

A good deal at current market prices.

However for an extra 10 euro you could get this

https://www.amazon.de/Patriot-DDR4-3200-MHz-PC-Speicher-288-PIN-Heatsink/dp/B016A29PWA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525562540&sr=8-1&keywords=viper+16gb+3200

Which is the same speed at 3200Mhz but better timings of CL 16-16-16-36. The ripjaws are CL16-18-18-38.

Not a big difference but probably worth 10 euro more.

I don't know if you want any ram in particular (like Samsung B-die which is 3200Mhz C14, and also relatively expensive), but this kit's $200 on Amazon.

It's 3200Mhz C16. People are reporting getting good speeds with it on their B350/X370 boards as a result of the recent BIOS updates.

Stability tested with MemTestHelper/HCI MemTest overnight, and it reached ~1500% coverage on each thread without any errors before I stopped it. I've had no issues in normal use and it seems pretty damn stable so far.

For reference this is the kit I have, rated for 3200mhz cl16-18-18-18.

I mean I just buy cheap fast ram. The ram in my ryzen machine is a "Patriot Viper 4 Series Extreme Performance DDR4 16GB (2 X 8GB) 3200MHz Kit (PC4-25600) PV416G320C6K" I paid $95 for it, and in 2 months it's now at $80. I was able to tighten the timings from 16:18:18:36 to 15:17:17:36 and upping the voltage of the ram to 1.4V from 1.35V. It helped my cpu perform a bit faster, but I just did it for funsies and to try my hand at modifying RAM timings.

u/Broadbanned · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Definitely, I'd suggest the following 8GB (2x4GB kit) or 16GB (2x8GB kit) if you have the extra money for it.

OP; i have these running in my B450I strix, all i had to do was set DOCP and it was read correctly. They are Samsung B-die as well.

Not the newest components but should keep you going for a good few years. The ryzen 2600 is a good cpu and the samsung SSD is a great and fast SSD with a long life to it. im pretty sure you wont expirence lag with the above components.....but you will need to build your self, and windows 10 is free but if you want to go pro you can get a key of the net for £15

Cheaper ram - same timings? : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016A29PWA/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza?fbclid=IwAR0r6SGnQZC1Qi6heYElOJlv3izPtW_ICkmc_Z9pgbyU-dsh9jxW9mEeMlo

If you want better ram, good with ryzen 3600: can hit 3600mhz CL14 : https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Viper-4133MHz-Performance-Memory/dp/B07KXBRR24?ref_=mw_olp_product_details&fbclid=IwAR2UgIPLVS-o5pAODbdJvn3dJr_kXEISxTZnTJsPdvR7SvHERzHfAwcBM1Q

I never really dug expensive motherboards. I'd swap it out for a cheaper one. I dont know Australian prices, but budget b450m motherboards should be around ~120 aud. Maybe buy local and they can update the board for you?

u/Black_Drogo · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

In addition to the Rakuten deal, there's also the Patriot set on Amazon for $71. Or this 3200mhz for $5 more than this

u/Buhms · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm looking to upgrade my RAM. Does the Patriot Memory 16GB DDR4 3200Mhz run fine with an intel CPU? All the reviews are saying 'great with my Ryzen', and google isn't telling me if they aren't compatible with Intel. Otherwise, can anyone recommend the next best RAM in my £150-190 budget. Many thanks.
