He wrote this book, which is basically a diary of his research:

He was an ex-CIA interrigation officer who specialized in lie detector graphs. It was through boredom that he discovered that plants can react to us, via hooking a pot plant up to a lie detector graph, and doing various things.

I don't know whether anyone else has ever been quite as thorough as he has, though.
