I was eyeing the Q4 as well. The position of the start button was kind of a downside for me. Do you accidentally press it a lot? Is it a nuisance? Or is it more out of the way from the buttons?

edit: here's the one I was looking at.

Depends what you're in the market for, cost wise. I currently have an HRAP 3 SA and a TE Round 2 but I've used pretty much everything out there by osmosis (being a part of the FGC and all).

Let me do a break down of all brands (and sticks of theirs I'd recommend) by increasing cost:

Qanba's inexpensive line is really good but overall I'm not a fan of the Q2s, stick to the Q1/4s or Eightarc Fusion line.

$79 - Qanba Q1
$149 - Qanba Q4 (price direct from Eightarc)
$184 - Eightarc Fusion - Dual mod (price direct from Eightarc)

Hori is a great brand because they tend to take more risks, unfortunately they're also one of the more expensive brands.

$149 - HRAP V4SA (looks like a refresh of their incredible V3SA line for PS4)
[$199 - Hori Fighting Edge] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008OP422U/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B008OP422U&linkCode=as2&tag=tylersfightga-20&linkId=YDHUDOKOY242R3UP)

It's possible to find the HRAP 3 SAs still, like I have, but they're really old school in their size. Namely it's a pretty bulky stick and it's not really designed to played on a normal sized person's lap (usually on the ground, OG status, or on a table). The HRAP V3SA is really good, but with the price of the V4SA, I'd pre-order that instead. In my experience, stay away from the N3-SA, good reviews but I've personally heard nothing but headache.

Madcatz is a mixed bag, I haven't tried their latest TE2s but the line before the TE2 wasn't super great, but maybe it's because I'm used to heavier sticks.

$99 - Fightstick Pro (just be aware this is plastic body)
$?? - TE Round 2

That's pretty much it for the Madcatz camp, the TE Round 2 is really their only stick currently worth mentioning and it looks like it's hard to find nowadays. If you could find one in good shape for about $100, it'd probably be worth picking up.

Also obviously these are the bigger names out there. My friend has a custom stick and I've used a couple that work fine. Just be aware that custom sticks come with custom costs, but the good news is that you'd be able to fully pick your components.

Looking at all the brands together, I'd recommend (by increasing cost):

$79 - Qanba Q1
$99 - Fightstick Pro (just be aware this is plastic body)
$149 - HRAP V4SA (looks like a refresh of their incredible V3SA line for PS4)
$184 - Eightarc Fusion - Dual mod (price direct from Eightarc)

Hope this helps

Not silly at all! I frequent the skullgirls reddit a lot, and the general consensus is that this stick is one of the better ones out there. Although pricey, according to multiple users on the sub (I don't own it) it's very worth the investment.

It's a Qanba Q4RAF (X360, PS3, PC) just with custom art, buttons and a Bat top stick.

Here's a link to the stick pre customized:

This stick is probably your best bet for your price range. Eightarc makes good sticks with all genuine Sanwa parts and it's dual modded for 360 and ps3 (and pc as well). Switched to a Qanba Q4 Ivory after about 8 months with my Hori stick and man I love it so much.

I didn't! Such a piece of garbage, as soon as I started using it everything was way harder and I found myself jumping all the time when I was trying to walk or dash... This is the one that lasted 20 minutes...

Once I got my hands on [these] (http://i.imgur.com/ICCos2M.jpg) I immediately felt like I had more control. There are also [ones] (http://www.amazon.com/Qanba-Q4-Q4RAF-Black-Fightstick/dp/B007SGGLZW) that work with both consoles with the same buttons and joysticks.

Though the whole "next-gen" thing kinda makes it look like you're wasting a lot of cash for an antiquated console(I have [2 agetec fight sticks] (http://i.imgur.com/N4IiSLI.jpg) for the dreamcast as well) I read somewhere that like the people behind Skullgirls made a driver for the ps4 so ps3 fightsticks would work on it.

They ALL work on PC so MAME and stuff like that becomes just that much more awesome.

as a person who is terrible at fighters as well, I highly recommend getting a stick. It really is a game changer once you figure it out. I can actually combo past 10 hits on a regular basis now!

I use the same one that he does Qanba Q4RAF. I purchased it at the beginning of the month and fell in love with it. It is a little investment, but totally worth it!

I have a Qanba Q4, which works on PS3, PC, XBox 360 and even the OUYA. It might be a bit too pricey though, if you only want it to play classic games and aren't really into fighting games competitively.

I bought the Qanba Q4 and I'm really happy with it. (It'll work for PS3 or 360.) Info: http://www.eightarc.com/qanba-q4/

I got mine through Amazon:

Don't get one of those, those are rather cheap. It will break on you pretty quickly, so save up for something that can take a beating.

That's a good stick, and you can connect to the PS3 & PC as well. Just sell your 3DS and games on craigslist or something. It will get you that much closer.

I've only really had experience with a couple of Hori sticks and the latest Madcatz te, as well as some custom ones I modded. You have a lot more options on PC, but as for quality I'm not really sure. I know there are some Qanba PC sticks for around $80, but I can't vouch for the quality, although the ratings are pretty good on [Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BXPIO1S/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_YWr7wbJ230K0F)

The buttons and stick might not be of the greatest quality, but it's a good start and I assume some of the high ratings come from being [easy to mod] (https://youtu.be/FllbddE4zes) but for that you'd need to buy new buttons and new stick.

If I were in your position, I'd opt for getting something of decent quality now with the intent to mod it later when you really get a feel for using a stick and get your execution down. And if I didn't want to mod, I'd wait a bit longer or mow a couple lawns and opt for a nice [Hori] [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SULMRI4/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_y8r7wb9MQ71NQ) or a better quality [Qanba] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007SGGLZW/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_39r7wb7K0TS7Y)
Either way, there's still a learning curve when switching peripherals so keep that in mind

What kind of fight stick do you use? I personally use a Qanba Q4 www.amazon.com/Qanba-Q4-Q4RAF-Black-Fightstick/dp/B007SGGLZW
