Maybe it's time for a little guerrilla redecoration?

Do you need to keep her away from the window or just prevent her from looking out of it? My first thought was some temporary privacy film, but I am not sure if that will work for your training purposes.

With the current setup, I'd consider moving that Aeon F. print (!) to the wall with your Kesey poster print. Awesome wall art, btw. I'd put a floating wood shelf on the TV wall, painted off-white to match your baseboards and that Hudson Bay Point blanket. I'd stick a small row of vintage paperbacks on it and a couple bookshelf speakers for the oncoming record player. Bluetooth to avoid the wires, if possible.

I'd put the turntable on a small stand on the right, below the art, utilizing that plug. Or I'd get a new console with clean lines that takes up most of the TV wall and can accommodate both.

I'd say you need a bigger rug, partly tucked under the sofa. Some sort of 'faded navy' seems right to me-- either flatwoven, or a distressed pattern like the current rug. That way you could connect with the beige walls of the unit (the faded), but tie in with the red and yellow of your art and the Hudson throw (navy).

The current format is home office one side, living area the other. Seems like you enjoy reading, and want to collect some records, but don't want to live in a home library. If that's the case, I'd consider media storage on the desk side. You could move the desk a bit and put a row of Kallax behind the sofa. This also would make a surface for reading lamps / plants / decor... or MacBook when sitting at the desk. But it means you're walking in to a wall of books and records.

The other option is to put it on the door wall. This would make the room divide less heavy. Provide an entry surface for keys and mail. And you could move the plants off the sill for easier blinds action. Side note- I'd consider a strip of [privacy film] (https://www.amazon.com/RABBITGOO-Privacy-Frosted-Adhesive-Bathroom/dp/B01MTA00AX/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_201_bs_t_1/143-0898377-8791034?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=5K4MXTX1QYKNSSPA8073) on the window bottoms. Either way, this would probably require a smaller desk and/or tweaking.

Other thoughts- I'd go white (or baseboard off-white) for the blackout curtains. A burnt yellow planter on the table. Paint the corkboard frame black. One thing- the coffee table looks very tall in the pics. Hairpin legs are pretty affordable on Amazon. Love that wooden tray in the bathroom.

When my puppy notices something from the window I immediately get his attention before barking and get him to sit and treat him for it. He then watches silently, we’re still working on it but I have noticed a slight improvement.

I also bought this for a different reason/not dog related and I love it! still get the natural light in.

I'll tag team this one:

  1. That would work but they make specialized ones that work great

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0126416XW?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

  2. Some sort of privacy film on the back so that it lets in light but hides what's behind the tank

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MTA00AX?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

  3. Epic.

  4. Up Aqua or GLA both make some reliable units

Totally agree about fish preferring the jungle/more densely planted tanks.... You really see their colors and natural behavior come out a lot more. After seeing the latest IAPLC results I'm wondering if the "Brazilian style" scapes provide enough sense of security.

Static window film is awesome for preventing dogs from staring out the window and baking endlessly: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MTA00AX/

For the happy tail, I've seen two variations of managing that seem effective...

Using pipe insulation: https://grandavevet.com/tail-bandage-for-minor-wounds/

And under the belly tail slings: https://www.featheredgems.com/blog/?p=292

This brand and style is completely opaque but still lets a good amount of light in. I used it on my rental windows for blacking out sunlight but it did not block enough light for me to sleep during the day. Would work great for privacy though. And it’s white so it will just look like curtains from a distance.

Thanks! This is what I used. It was like $6 and very easy to apply with some soapy water. Let me know how yours turns out!

Use it with window film.

Then maybe it would be best to try to obscure the window rather than the balcony. There are lots of ways to do that.

My wife and I had a similar problem; she hated being exposed but I didn't want to lose the natural light. What we found worked was to apply something like this to the glass:

https://www.amazon.com/RABBITGOO-Privacy-Frosted-Adhesive-Bathroom/dp/B01MTA00AX/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1524614568&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=window+frosting+film&psc=1

... which gave us privacy while preserving natural light. Because we wanted to have some ability to see out, we didn't cover the entire window with it, just the center portion. It makes a nice effect, and it's easy to see out but still nearly impossible to see anything inside.

Frosted window film would probably work, would eat some lumen though.

Frosted window film

u/Omsuhos · 1 pointr/AskElectronics

Hey, I've been looking into frosted glass films and sheets, and was having trouble figuring out what would be appropriate or actually work. Here are some I found online:

u/Jharrigan07 · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

They sell privacy window film https://www.amazon.com/RABBITGOO-Privacy-Frosted-Adhesive-Bathroom/dp/B01MTA00AX?keywords=privacy+film&qid=1538172517&sr=8-1-spons&ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa&psc=1

in a whole bunch of varieties. They would still let most of the light through and enhance the privacy.

u/brancasterr · 1 pointr/PlantedTank

Yeah no problem!

I’ve got something like this on my list:

You won’t be able to see the wires but it will still look natural.
