Don't freak out - it will be really good for him, it's the best thing you can do for his future!

Having a really good RABBIT SAVVY vet will really minimize all the risks. :)

  1. Neuter recover is easier than spay so that is a good thing! Usually he will be nibbling within a few hours and you will see energy comeback in 24 to 48 hours hopefully, though healing takes longer.
  2. You will have to keep him in his xpen for a few days and make sure there are no sharp things to injure his surgery site. Try to stock up on some toys he might like and throw around:
    1. May be look here
    2. These nesting cups work great too
  3. You will have to spend more time with him on the floor by his xpen or when he is out keeping him calm and supervising him. Maybe plan to work from home for the first day to keep an eye on him.
  4. You can get a cone from the vet, but that makes it harder to eat and drink sometimes and stresses them out. The alternative if you see him licking his surgery site (not all buns do) is a modified baby onse like here .
    1. If he wears a onse and you remove sharp edges and things for him to jump onto and can supervise, some play time on the 2nd/3rd pay might be ok.
  5. I he does wear a cone be sure to handfeed him hay and his cecotropes. You can stuff hay into a sock and suspend it from up above with the opening facing down do he can actually reach the hay on his own.
  6. Be sure you don't leave the vet's office without enough metacam for a few days - this is critical for recovery!!!
  7. Also be sure you get critical care to feed from a syringe if needed.
  8. Get an after hours number from your vet in case you need it.
  9. Keep his litter extra dry and clean also.
  10. See a couple links below for how to prepare also, they are worth dedicating 15 minutes to

  11. Btw be aware that it takes 4 to 6 weeks after the neuter for hormones to leave the body so keep that in mind that behavior changes won't be instant.

Wishing little one luck and a quick recovery!
