I was playing around with Korean about a year and a half ago, helping a student on campus. I used a slim book called Read and Speak Korean for Beginners, published by McGraw-Hill. I liked it. It was $15. It has a CD included which was OK, but the emphasis is on reading and writing, making short sentences, and so on. It was great for self-study as it is sort of workbook style--you are engaged with matching, writing, identifying words right from the get go. It has some games which helped, I think, and a few tests. It was good for the basics.
There's quite a few good websites and Youtube is helpful, too.
