This Rii one works well for me. There is a TV program button so you can reprogram the IR to match the TV and soundbar remote. I have 2 of the bottom buttons programmed to control my sound bar, 2 set to the netflix shortcut button and another app, and the USB dongle plugged into my smart TV with Kodi installed. The air mouse is pretty neat too but it doesn't always work right. Also the instructions are lacking a little but I really enjoy this remote especially for the price. I think there is a bluetooth pairing option as well but I have yet to use it.

So I'm currently using my Pi3 as a retro gaming unit. It works great and I love it.

I'm hoping to also use it as a Media Center moving forward. I've read that I can just go into the Retropie settings and install Kodi from there and it will run like one of the systems on Retropie. Is this true? And will it work well?

Also from there I'm hoping to just buy a external HD and keep all of my media on that. Will Kodi be able to access it fine being run through Retropie?

Lastly, could anybody recommend a remote to use with Kodi. I'd prefer not to use the app on my phone and I'd just like a physical remote. Something small and simple. I found this one. Is it any good?

It's super cheap and I'm actually really happy with it. I kind of wish it was backlit, they sell some that are. Works great when using my PC for kodi and chrome browsing from my couch.

I don't believe there is a similar command on the actual Mi Box Remote. However I purchased a remote off of amazon that has the command that you are looking for. I just tested it and it does work to bring up the guide shortcut.

Alright so the one I got is good but bad at the same time. I'm trading it out for a universal remote, mainly for the function of having a guide button. the one I got is the ipazzport controller like one:

It was easy to set up and use but the problems it had were double clicking sometimes, poor one handed use, and no guide button, which is a deal breaker for me. I've found out that the mi box has an ir receiver on it, so I'm going to be getting this:

I personally wish it was a bit less old school controller look wise and had a QWERTY keyboard, but what can you do. I was torn between that one and this one, which I will get if the guide button doesn't end up working out:

The other ones I read up on as basically being the dankest nugs are the harmony remotes, but I really can't justify that much money for a remote. Stuff like this has me wishing I would have just gotten a ps4 and gotten the PlayStation remote with it. I will make a new reply to you guys when I get and try out the new remote. Works great! Not exactly your solution, but perhaps you can use some aspects of it. I just keep Spotify up and ready to play and use the remote to start and stop. Could also use any phone to select which music and start with Spotify Connect.

I wound up returning it and am getting this one instead.

One thing I need for the perfect experience is the need for a remote-style handhold when not typing in search keywords so operating this one was awkward one handed.
