Using a SanDisk High Endurance 128GB card and this adapter.

It’s really the best option, all other card readers are huge and bulky

I use a micro SD card + reader. This reader and this card.

If you have USB flash drive that is constantly being written to that flash drive eventually is going to fail. Writing, writing a lot (which dashcams do) is exactly what wears flash drives out.

Instead, a longer lasting way to record dashcam and sentry video is to use endurance micro sd cards paired with a USB reader. The Samsung endurance micro SD card linked below is good for 17,520 hours of recording.

Put it inside a decent USB micro SD reader and you have a fairly reliable solution.

I have had no problems with corrupt files using a Micro SD card (64, 128, or 256gb) in Fat32 format. You may need special software to format a drive over 32gb in Fat32. I then place that into a USB 3.0 SD card dongle that is super small with Amazon link below. I plan on moving over to a Pi Zero and re-using the SD card when I do.

The reason I went with this setup is because so many people with USB thumb drives having write speed problems. Micro SD cards were meant for super fast write that recording video needs.

I forgot to say the Samsung item in the post above is ONLY THE MEMORY CARD. You need a USB holder/adapter to be able to plug it in to the Tesla USB port - like this one

Makes for a small, neat setup and hasn’t failed once since about two weeks ago when I installed it.

I’d highly recommend to get this usb reader instead the one posted above hasn’t been working for me and many others after recent updates:

Have a question about USB storage for Sentry and dashcam. I bough a [128GB micro SD card ](Samsung PRO Endurance 128GB Micro SDXC Card with Adapter - 100MB/s U1 (MB-MJ128GA/AM) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B984HJ5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_jaStDbFA277G0) that fits in a [thumb drive frame](Rocketek Aluminum USB 3.0 Portable Memory Card Reader Adapter for Micro SD Card/TF Card Reader Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XTQZS4F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_cgStDb6J81XQG) thinking that would work. My Model X seems to recognize the thumb drive as it shows up in the media center as a potential source but it doesn’t work for Sentry or the dashcam. Has anyone seen this problem? I am looking for a larger storage option than my current 32GB thumb drive which fills up every 1-2 weeks.
