Again, they actually remove odor causing substances from air and surfaces, in this case by reacting with them and breaking them down into non-odorous substances. Used in fire and flood remediation to remove smoke and mold smells. • 3. Chlorine Dioxide: CLO2, like ozone, is used in fire remediation to remove smoke smells. It is a gas that will penetrate everything and neutralize everything. This is a bit trickier to use as you MUST leave your home for 24 hours and make sure all the rooms are dark (light destroys CLO2). Not toxic or poisonous, but a strong respiratory irritant while activated. • 4. All else failing, you may have to scrub your walls and ceiling with trisodium phosphate and repaint all the walls with odor blocking primer like Kilz.
