I run commute 5-7 miles each way so I carry wallet, iPhone, keys and sometimes garage door clicker. I just bought this fanny pack (errr, running belt, w/e). It's perfect for wallet and keys. My running shorts have a little pocket in the back for the 3rd slab/item. It's been a really good combination. Can't attest to its long-term durability but I forget I'm wearing it.
I've also gone running in cycling jerseys for their pockets. This one in particular is almost perfect, except its too short in the front for running - however I'm 6'1" and own the Medium because I'm not a heavy guy.
The night light material, full zip and pockets in the back is perfect. The fit hugs my body so it wicks very efficiently and the junk in the pockets doesn't bounce around. If only the front was a little bit longer, but when I wear my singlet, the jersey is out of sight.

Running belt? That's the one I use and I love it.
Have you tried a expandable waist pack / runners' belt? It's not structured like a traditional fanny pack but solves the "Where do I put my keys?" question. Something like this
