Sure they do, they make 2.1 amps AND 2.1 AVR's. In terms of AVR's there are a limited number, and Imho you should just go 5.1 if you go the AVR route

In my experience, the 2.1 avrs aren't any smaller than the 5.1 units.

Amplifiers, however, can be very small. But I would only advise buying an amplifier if you are ONLY using a single source. If you need something that can do source switching, an AVR cannot be beat.

SMSL is very popular on r/budgetaudiophile. You could make quite a competent little 2.1 setup with one of those, some good bookshelves and a sub.

Something like this seems pretty ideal for a desktop, to me

u/DZCreeper · 5 pointsr/hometheater

Sound quality is not a term I would use to describe either.

In both cases we are talking about a bunch of $5 "full range" drivers stuffed in a tiny housing. Up-firing Atmos doesn't work well with the best of speakers, so having them in a soundbar adds no value.

I will recommend a cheap pair of bookshelf speakers and external amp instead.

https://www.amazon.com/S-M-S-L-AD18-Amplifier-Bluetooth-Subwoofer/dp/B071JN7GXN

You could also get a used AV receiver to save some money on the amp and get better speakers instead. If your budget allows, also get an entry level subwoofer like a Dayton SUB-1200 for $150.

>And I don’t understand speaker setups all that much.

That's your biggest hurdle right there. What are you wanting? I've ran a good stereo-only home theater, and a good 2.1 setup before. I'd rather have either of those than a poor quality 5.1.

Soundbars typically replace quality with quantity. They became popular when TVs started getting real thin and having crap sound. a $2-300 powered speaker setup will have better sound. And if you don't want wires around the room, that's a good place to start.

Get something like these Klipsch R-15PM. You can use them now as-is and add a sub later. That will be a pretty damn solid 2.1 setup.

Or get an AMP and separate SPEAKERS. (Just examples). You can have a good system pretty easily.

If you aren't turned off by your bad experience with the Ai40s, I am using the Fluance signature series bookshelf speakers with an SMSL AD-18 amp. There is no noticeable hiss. I use it for my turntable, pc and tv all with good results. If you only want to use it for your turntable I have heard good things about the SMSL SA50 as a basic amp.

Anyone have good suggestions for an amp that matches the budget of these speakers? So far I've been looking at this: https://www.amazon.com/SMSL-AD18-Amplifier-Bluetooth-Subwoofer/dp/B071JN7GXN
Not entirely done researching all this stuff (newbie audiophile) but it would be nice to hear from someone with IRL experience anyway.

This would be much more rewarding than messing with those old ones. C-notes or classix II will sound better than those ever could.

That should do it, and it will take the HDMI splitter out of your setup. You could get fancy and grab a NAD 3020 v2 as well.

These have been getting some good user reviews lately and a nice price too, and a pretty small cabinet for a 6.5 inch woofer, 79.99 / pair: 2 Pack 6.5" Bookshelf Home Theater Speakers 100W RMS TP160S-CH DCM by MTX Audio

As for amp's I have two of these (on two different computer systems), Dayton Audio APA 150. This is a serious Class A/B design topology, but no frills, just a well built, serious, "old school" heavy amp. No remote, no DAC, no Bluetooth, but WOW, a really nice, serious, amp! Lots of good user reviews and recommendations all over the net.

A often recommended smaller digital amp S.M.S.L AD18. This one DOES have it all, remote, DAC, bluetooth, relatively small, great reviews all over the net.

If you are really on a budget, try something similar to Lepai LP-2020TI Digital Hi-Fi Audio Mini Class D Stereo Amplifier. Do some searches for tweaking this amp, a very simple way to improve this amp, is to buy a more powerful power brick. There are many versions of this type of amp, amazon, ebay, parts-express, look around.

The other two, often recommended, "great value" speakers that work well with a computer (but you will need an amp), are the Sony SSCS5 3-Way 3-Driver Bookshelf Speaker System (Pair). I have seen these on sale for well under 100/pair, from memory, in the 60's and 70's.

Another great value is the Pioneer SP-BS22-LR Andrew Jones Designed Bookshelf Loudspeakers(7-1/8” x 12-9/16” x 8-7/16” & weighs 9 lbs 2 oz). Again, search around, these do go on sale for well under 100.00.

I have both the Pioneer and the Sony, and I currently am using the Sony SSCS5 with the Dayton Audio Amp. Was temped to buy the DCM, but I have to stop buying "great value" speakers. If I ever want to upgrade my computer speakers, I should save up and buy the Ascend Audio Luna Reference Ribbon Mini-Monitor.

Good luck, have fun, and Enjoy!

I bought the SMSL AD18 just this past weekend and I really like it. Powers 45W at 8 ohms, I also have those Polk s15’s and it works well with them. In addition, the unit comes with Bluetooth, a sub out, and a variety of different inputs with the built in DAC. Even with $25 shipping to Canada it comes in under budget for you:

Any single speaker is going to sound terrible compared to a proper 2 speaker setup. Especially that one.

Get these bookshelf speakers along with this receiver.

If you don't have the room for a receiver, this amplifier will work instead.

Can you guys look this over and make sure I have something worth buying? I have about $1000 to spend on a 2.1 setup for a computer desktop setup.

> Yeah, that's how the philips works and it's 15 years old haha

Yea 15 years ago they used to be physical push in power buttons that stayed in when power went out.

Now these are all digital power buttons, and so when power goes out, then comes back on, it stays in sleep mode until the power is turned on again.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071JN7GXN

That would be perfect for an Echo Dot however I think the power going out this amp would still suffer from the same issues in that it'd need to be turned on after a power outage.

Really curious why you're wanting to kill the power completely in something like this.

u/zim2411 · 2 pointsr/audiophile

SMSL AD-18 is tiny but still packs in a ton of features including multiple inputs, Bluetooth, and a remote.

u/oddsnsodds · 2 pointsr/audiophile

Oh god. Multitech. That was the low-ball budget brand, cheap as hell. They made modems and branched out into CD players for a while. I wouldn't recommend using it. It won't break anything, it's just not going to sound as good as modern equipment.

You can brush up on audio components here:

http://rkheck.frege.org/audio/beginners/components.php

You only need one amp for everything, but you'll need some way to switch between sources. Basically, you'll want a pre-amp to handle switching and an amp to play them, or both in one box, which is an integrated amp.

SMSL makes a lot of small amps, and this model would do what you're asking:

https://smile.amazon.com/SMSL-AD18-Amplifier-Bluetooth-Subwoofer/dp/B071JN7GXN/

At this price range you can also start looking at major-brand audio equipment:

https://smile.amazon.com/Yamaha-R-S202BL-Stereo-Receiver/dp/B01EMQI2CU/

u/blacktongue · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Consider an external DAC/AMP. They'll drive a lot more power to your headphones/speakers than the mobo, and I find it easier to control my audio from an external hub. They get crazy expensive, but I've been using the SMSL AD18 for a year and a half, and I think it's neat.

u/Armsc · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Ok here are some answers/thoughts for you.

  1. Congrats on getting some passive speakers now you need an amplifier to make them work. They don't have one included so we'll have to figure out what the best solution is for this.
  2. For a main viewing space I like to use an AVR but they can be bigger than a soundbar. They do give you multiple inputs, remote, ease of setup and expandability. With an AVR you can expand to a full surround sound system if you choose or just add in a subwoofer for some more low end. Something like this Yamaha RX-V385 refurb $200 would be be great for you. It's an entry level receiver but for just two speakers you'll be fine with this guy.
  3. You can get a mini amplifier if you like but you'll want one with a remote, tone controls and some digital inputs especially an optical input. The optical is important if you want to use the TV as a source as almost all TV's have an optical out but less have analogs to use. Something like this SMSL AD18 $135would be a good choice. Yes it's smaller but it doesn't like your expand to a full home theater setup, the remote is not quite as nice and I think the interface will be harder to use and smaller. However, it's a great choice if you "need" something smaller.
  4. What are you sources going to be? If you're looking at hooking up multiple sources then the AVR would be the way to go. If you're just going to hook the TV up then either the AVR or mini amp is fine.
  5. You'll want to order cables to hook things up. If you just want to use the TV as a source you'll need an optical audio cable $6 to come out of the TV to the amp. If you're going use the AVR and run the sources (disc player, roku, PC...) into it you'll need HDMI or analog audio cables depending on what they use.
  6. I would consider getting some speakers stands to get the most out of your new toys. I have used these speaker stands $40 in the past with good luck They aren't expensive and allows you to get the speakers to the correct height, away from the wall and out from the TV.

Having more wattage available than you need is fine. The high wattage numbers only come into play when you crank the volume like mad.

So what are you looking for, just 2 channel stereo? That can be had quite cheap.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/AD18-Stereo-Amplifier-Bluetooth-Subwoofer/dp/B071JN7GXN/ - one of the go-to suggestions lately for a simple 2-channel DAC/amp.

Or, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tangent-Ampster-BT-HiFi-Amplifier/dp/B07K5H8FB3/ (there seems to be pics of the other components mixed in, but it should be this unit https://tangent-audio.com/products/9-electronics/162-tangent-ampster-bt-ii/ )

Or, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dayton-DTA-PRO-Bluetooth-Amplifier-Remote/dp/B07MQVWW43

Etc.

I might go with the Tangent, just because it looks great, doesn't have any flashing lights to annoy you, it has a sub output which may come in handy (though the others do too I believe) and you can get a tuner and CD player in the same look if you want to.

If you want to connect a lot of units to it, you may have issues. There are optical Toslink switches you could use to connect multiple items over optical to its one optical in, though. Or a high quality RCA switch.

As for subwoofers you really can get anything you like. From the budget Bic F12 to the matching Yu Sub8 to anything SVS makes. I know you listed your budget in Euro's, but I don't know a common site like Amazon to just get you basic pricing in Euro's so forgive the links to all over the world.

The other option is to go passive.

Amplifier: SMSL AD18 w/ subwoofer output
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AD18-Hi-Fi-Stereo-Amplifier-Bluetooth/dp/B071JN7GXN

Speakers/sub: Anything really. This more depends on regional pricing and availability. Here we can get the KEF Q100's for around $250-$300 US. But anything well reviewed that only needs around 40w of power will work well with that amplifier. There's a good number of well reviewed subs that will work for you with the €350 ish left after the DAC/amp and speakers.

u/raistlin65 · 2 pointsr/audiophile

That's a funky media cabinet since most home audio amps and receiver run about 17" wide. Strange.

I think with the PS Sprout 100, you are certainly paying the boutique audio vendor electronics tax. And measurements for it's DAC are a little disappointing given the price https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-and-measurements-of-ps-audio-sprout100.7049/

If you only need one set of analog inputs, the Emotiva A-100 is a solid choice for $250. It's a no frills power amp with volume control, and that's it: https://emotiva.com/collections/amps/products/a-100

If you would like something with more bells and whistles, the SMSL AD18 could work very well for you: https://www.amazon.com/S-M-S-L-AD18-Amplifier-Bluetooth-Subwoofer/dp/B071JN7GXN/

u/MistaHiggins · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Have you ever heard a pair of Klipsch speakers? Reason I ask is that they can be fatiguingly bright, especially when not using any room correction that might tame them down a bit. I had a pair of unpowered R-14 that I only listened to for about 15 minutes before returning them to Amazon.

I would recommend considering something like the Micca RB42 which have been highly praised to the point of consistently selling out as soon as they come into stock. Review.

You should keep an eye on this auction for Jamo C103 which are originally $1600/pair and sound incredible down to 45hz. Review If these end up around your price range, try and snag them.

Third option: Jamo C93 on ebay. Same tweeter as above, smaller woofer, will still fill a family room. Review.

You might be wanting to stay away from a home theater receiver which I can understand for space, but going with powered speakers really does limit your options. I would entertain looking at a smaller amp like the AD18 that includes bluetooth connectivity and optical for your TV.

EDIT: Would actually recommend playing your music off your TV => optical instead of bluetooth. Spotify connect/airplay is great and then other people can change the song using the TV remote.

Pyle tends to be discouraged here

Topping or SMLS will be your best bet for mini amp brands

SMLS AD-18

Topping MX3 also on sale here

Remote Ability Add On would allow you to add a universal remote to your current setup (from what I understand)

Or a PreAmp like this

Chromecast Audio would let you add wireless streaming to an amp without bluetooth

If you dont mind something larger, an AVR receiver like this or this will be your best option

To complicated and confusing. Can you cut to the chase?

You knocked something into something ... then what happened?

"I accidentally kick the hi-fi and knocked it onto the tuner." ...and then ...what?

So, what is it you need? Seemingly a remote, but what happened to the existing remote?

The remote had a AUX/MD switch, but what is MD?

You CAN NOT run the speakers directly from the Computer.

If you want a full universal remote, nothing beats the Logitech Harmony Remotes. Harmony has many thousands of devices that they support, and you can check them in advance on-line to be sure your device is supported.

https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-350-Simple-Set-up/dp/B00J7KM5X4/

I use the Harmony 350 with Rotel, Onkyo, Yamaha Stereos with out any problem or conflict.

You plug the Remote into a computer USB input, the go to MyHarmony.com, enter your equipment, it is automatically programmed through the USB connection. No messing with codes or pushing the On/Off button 50 times.

I'm with /u/polypeptide147 on this. The more features, the more possibilities for noise, etc.

The cheap amps I own are all much more heavily affected by power noise, crappy audio cables, etc. The Lepai 2020ti handles it better than most. It also benefits from a good power supply.

For example, this line of amps are decent for an outdoor / garage audio setup, but I would never use one on a computer (speaker hiss, very noisy when idle). You're going to be much more sensitive to speaker hiss and distortion, along with many of the "featureful" amps having auto-shutoffs with a slight delay coming back on (causing the start of notification sounds to get cut off).

Edit: if you want featureful, I would go with something like the SMSL AD18 (no personal experience with them) or the Klipsch Powergate (What I'm currently using. See my comment here for some issues I have with it.)

KEF Q100s are on this weekend for $299. Pair that with a dac/amp (SMSL AD18 perhaps) and you’ll be rocking. It’s a bit over your budget but these speakers are usually $600. Also note these are often found in store for those prices if you don’t want to ship.

It's hard to go wrong with SMSL's amps. The AD-18 is on sale at Amazon for $130: https://www.amazon.com/SMSL-AD18-Amplifier-Bluetooth-Subwoofer/dp/B071JN7GXN/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1542854712&sr=8-3&keywords=smsl+ad18 (I don't see this on Parts Express.) I've got one, and it's served me well.

Some people think the THX logo is a tweeter. (The THX is not a tweeter)

Here's a review http://noaudiophile.com/Logitech_z623/

I don't like the z623 personally, the satellites sound thin and the subwoofer plays too much midrange.

If you think soundbars sound awesome then get a z623. $70 is cheap for audio with bass.

But if you're after better audio then we run into problems.

Some say the Edifier bookshelf speakers are good, The Edifier R1280T No bluetooth is currently on sale. I can't vouch for it for long term listening but I did hear one in person briefly in a store, sounded decent but unsure which model it was.

You can try a Voll 50 Passive speaker and hook it up with a SMSL Audio SA-36A or SMSL AD18 amp. You will need your own speaker wire if you go that route and it obviously all these audio components aren't cheap.

If you want to add a subwoofer in the future then the SMSL AD18 is the way to go, as it has sub-out.

TL;DR
Keep it simple with the Logitech and enjoy the bass or get serious and spend some more money.

u/thewatermellon · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Exactly! The only benefit of a receiver is it's ability to take signal from hdmi. Something like this would be more than enough power at 80wpc, with built in bluetooth, aux in, and a few digital ins as well if your computer doesn't have a good aux/headphone out.

Or you could go with something a bit cheaper, like this. That one only has one aux(rca) in, so you'd need an aux to rca, female or male. For bluetooth with that amp, I'd get one of these as well as an aux splitter. That way you don't have to unplug anything to switch between bluetooth and aux.

I would probably try to save up for a dac/amp combo for computer use instead of the tv dac.

The Topping Mx3 is good, has a sub out for down the road ( r/https://bit.ly/2xhzTMu )

This Smsl would be great too ( r/https://amzn.to/2D4FXgK )

Otherwise, you could go with the amp you linked and spend more on the speakers. Micca mb42x would be good for cheap. I personally love the Parts express c-notes ( they are diy $100 r/https://bit.ly/2H3Jom8 ) and are not much more then the micca's and are superior in every way. Can't go wrong with pioneer bs-22 LR as well, although they are kind of awkwardly sized. I would consider these great budget options.

I'm thinking about going with the KEF Q100s. I still have the Polk S15s on the list. I know they're not as good, but they're a little cheaper and have that rounded look I like. I might go audition them at Best Buy.

I want to save some room for an amp with tone controls, which has actually proven more difficult to find than expected. Just a bass and treble knob would be sufficient. I live in an apartment, and may need to turn the bass down at times.

This SMSL one looks like it would fit the bill. Has aptX as well.

Making my own speaker cables. I use the same wire for the power cables as the signal cables, 12 or 14 gauge?? Then just buy banana plugs and RCA plugs?

Also which amp should I buy? Sabaj A4 or SMSL AD18

u/ext23 · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

You didn't provide a budget in your OP, don't know why you downvoted me.

And if you want something that can change the volume of your (passive) speakers, that is the definition of an amplifier.

Anyway here you go.

https://www.amazon.com/SMSL-AD18-Amplifier-Bluetooth-Subwoofer/dp/B071JN7GXN/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=smsl+ad18&qid=1554777982&s=gateway&sr=8-1

This thing does everything. 2.1 speaker amp, headphone amp, built-in DAC, USB or optical, Bluetooth, even has some EQ presets built in.

u/cinepro · 1 pointr/hometheater

What output were you even using from that amp for the low-level input?

That amp isn't made to use with an external sub like that. You would need an amp (usually a receiver) that has a built-in crossover and bass management. That amp is made to use with stereo speakers, so you'll need to do what you're doing and figure out how to tap the high-level (speaker-level) outputs.

u/Aco2504 · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

By crossover... what are you referring to? A high pass for the mains, a low pass output for the subwoofer, or both?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you're expecting a bit too much at $150 for a desktop amplifier.

Most AVR's will do what you're asking, but they're the wrong form factor for what you desire.

There are a lot of mini desktop amps that have the power requirements (and a few with sub outputs), but at your price point, they are not high passing the mains nor low passing the sub output... is simply a mono, volume controlled output.

You're going to need to significantly increase your amplifier budget if you want both of those features (high pass/low pass, small form factor). Alternatively, compromise and find space for an AVR... or give up on crossover feature (which isn't the end of the world - it'll just require more tweaking/tuning on your part).

Final alternative: buy a different subwoofer... one that has a high pass built into it through RCA (most SVS have this) and use separate preamp and power amp. You can get away with a small preamp on your desk, and hide the power amplifier elsewhere... on the back or side of your desk or something. I dunno what your space looks like - so long as it has room to breathe, you'd be fine.

I have a pair of "ancient" Velodyne CT-120's. I found out, happily, that they will high pass my mains even through the use of the high level inputs/outputs. If you can get one of those, then all you'll need is a mini desktop amp like a Dayton Audio DTA-120bt.

Edit:

The closest thing to what you're asking is an SMSL AD18. However, it sub output is a full range signal, and it doesn't high pass the mains.

Hey guys! I recently got my Fluance RT80 and I’ve been loving it! But I’m finally upgrading my speakers and receiver. I settled on a few options and I was wondering which ones you guys would recommend.

Receiver:

SMSL AD18 HIFI Audio Stereo Amplifier ($144)

Or

Yamaha R-S202BL Stereo Receiver $120

Speakers

ELAC B5 Debut Series 5.25" $229

Or

ELAC B6 Debut Series 6.5" $278

Or

Micca MB42X Bookshelf Speakers With 4-Inch Carbon Fiber Woofer and Silk Dome $89

The top of my budget is about $400. I’m wondering if it’s going to be a noticeable difference to upgrade the speakers from the Micca to the ELAC B5 or even B6. I’ve been trying to find a used receiver as I realize it’s not as important as the speakers but I’ve been finding nothing locally (anything decent is way overpriced). Thanks!

u/Think_Positively · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

Your best bet is probably to go to a local thrift and buy an old AVR or stereo amp. If you're in an urban or suburban area, chances are that you'll be able to find something for $20-30.

If that's not feasible, or if something that large doesn't work for your space, your next best bet is to get a small stereo amp. The SMSL AD18 is more than you noted you want to spend, but it's everything you noted you're seeking. The same company has less expensive models that may also work - - just check on Amazon.

This Lepai is about as cheap as you can find new that will work. I'd recommend spending a little more, but even this with those Sonys will likely be an upgrade over the Logitech.

u/brazen8 · 1 pointr/audio

SMSL Q5 Pro(Silver) - $115

Topping MX3 - $130

SMSL AD18 - $145

These all get great reviews around here and elsewhere. I think the Topping is the current favorite. They all have a sub out as well as DACs, optical, and analog inputs. Just a bit over your budget, but close.

u/Frede154 · 1 pointr/hometheater

Well, you can get something like this Micca 2.0 speaker amp for just those two. This SMSL 2.1 Speaker / headphone amp with dac and bluetooth to add a sub. This Denon 5.1 receiver as a cheap receiver, or higher end receiver if you want.

It all depends on what you want to do now, how much you want to spend, what your goals are.

Also, there are definitely other options to the 3 i linked. The micca doesnt have digital inputs, but some do. The SMSL has a remote, but is a bit expensive since the Denon offers more for the same price.

u/ckhartsell · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

Could I use something like this: CLICK HERE and use the headphone out to go to my powered speakers?

u/phub · 1 pointr/audiophile

The first Monoprice ones are self powered, basically an all in one solution. You'd just have to plug them into power behind the scenes when installing.

For everything else you'll be running speaker cable from the speaker to your amp, whatever you end up picking. Cheap bluetooth devices don't tend to survive all that long so I'd put whatever's at the amp end somewhere easy to troubleshoot and/or replace. Given the kitchen environment I'd avoid anything with a lot of cooling holes/vents just in case of spills or sprays. Keystones would make for a nice and neat install on the amp side. Amps are fairly straightforward. The Powernode I linked early is an outstanding value, if a bit large. NAD's D3020 is more counter friendly. If you want to go cheaper there's any number of Chinese brands like SMSL but I can't vouch for their quality.

Cheaper speakers are dicey, I'd just look for a reassuring number of reviews saying that they don't sound like trash. As a bit of an audio snob I'd rather be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to carving holes in the ceiling to the specific size of that speaker.

u/DieselWang · 1 pointr/audiophile

The cheapest I'd go for a good option for both speakers and headphones would be the SMSL AD18: https://www.amazon.com/SMSL-AD18-Amplifier-Bluetooth-Subwoofer/dp/B071JN7GXN

u/wolfcry0 · 1 pointr/audio

Oh ok, I looked through the manual but it's very sparse with any info.

Sounds like it does have inputs you can use, do they look like this? If they do you just need a basic 3.5mm to RCA cable to connect your phone to the system.

>so could you tell me how to use those speakers to work for my phone/laptop? Using an amplifier like you mentioned?

If you don't want to use the main sony unit, yeah you could buy an amplifier and connect the speakers to that instead.

Something like this for a cheaper one that you'd connect with a cable to your phone, or if you wanted a nicer one with bluetooth this would be a good option.

Something like the SMSL AD18 could work.

u/rnplyr1985 · 1 pointr/audiophile

So I'm by no means a hobbyist. In fact, as of today I just purchased my first pair of ELAC bookshelf speakers. Over at r/buildapcsales, people were raving over these speakers for the price. So I bit! The problem is I know next to nothing about how to set these things up.

I know I need Banna plugs, speaker wire and an amp (and a sub ^(ill probably buy a) ^(Polk) ^(later)). I will be using these with my new PC I'm building currently. I'd also like to be able to run my echo do (mainly for Alexa functions and streaming music) through this system.

I have a few amps in my cart atm via Amazon.

  • Dayton Audio DTA-2.1BT 100W Class D 2.1 Amplifier with Bluetooth and Power Supply $88.75
  • SMSL SA50 50Wx2 TDA7492 Class D Amplifier + Power Adapter $66
  • BT20A Bluetooth 4.2 Stereo Audio 2 Channel Amplifier Receiver Mini Hi-Fi Class D $76.98
  • Lepy LP-2020A Hi-Fi Digital Amplifier $24.39
  • SMSL AD18HiFi Audio Stereo Amplifier with Bluetooth 4.2 Supports Apt-X, USB DSP Full Digital Power Amplifier 2.1 $130.49

So if I'm planning on sync devices via the echo I don't technically need Bluetooth receiver in my amp, right? What about if I have a Bluetooth in my motherboard? I'm not sure if there's a difference between devices like keyboards and audio devices with Bluetooth.

    Thanks for the Help Experts,

There’s always the used market. Otherwise, something like the SMSL AD18 would be adequate, not really any worthwhile better products in the $250 range, and the popular entry level Yamaha/Onkyo stereo integrated amps are $350.

u/dreamvillain17 · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

I was in a similar position with my Xbox, and PC set up.
I ended up going with this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071JN7GXN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_SlXvCb15C35GB

I've really enjoyed it. Has all the imputs you need even Bluetooth/micro USB/aux. Paired with my Klipsch R-15's or my dt770s, it's taken my set up to a new level and for a pretty good price.

u/MrTubby1 · 1 pointr/audiophile

Is it better to get an all-in-one desktop solution or a more expensive modular desktop solution?
Right now I just want really good speakers for my desktop. I've been hardset on the Vanatoo T0's, which include bluetooth, usb, optical, and aux in. They're pretty much everything I need in one amazing package.

But on the other hand, I've been looking at near-field studio monitors like the JBL 305P, the Mackie MR524 and audio interfaces like the Mackie Big Knob and other DAC's. The big knob also has an input for a microphone which I might want to use for high-quality recording.

Then there's also buying a desktop amp like the SMSL AD18 paired with an actual pair of speakers.

Both the modularity and upgradability appeal to me, but the compactness of the vanatoo's is also so nice.

Any thoughts?

It looks like the SMSL AD18 have all the inputs and output you need:

  • Headphone jack output
  • Standard RCA speaker outputs for your Edifiers

Hi,
I'm tryin to get a setup for a not so big room (4m x 4m) (13.1 ft x 13.1 ft),

I have the next options for a setup :

- MX3 topping amplifier (50wpc) (120 USD) or SMSL AD18 (80wpc) (180 USD): https://www.amazon.com/Topping-MX3-Bluetooth-Headphome-Amplifier/dp/B075SYC4Z5https://www.amazon.com/SMSL-AD18-Amplifier-Bluetooth-Subwoofer/dp/B071JN7GXN/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?keywords=ADSL+ad18&qid=1563892863&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmr0

- KEF Q350 (600 USD) or Klipsch RP-600M (700 USD) (local supplier)

My budget is something around 1k USD, I own a FIO X5 II and a soundblaster E5 that I can use as a DAC
Wich option would you recommend me ? Should I invest the extra money into a better amp ? get a new DAC or get a different pair of speakers ?

My plan is to invest into the setup another 1k USD the next year, this is just the begining of something great.

Thanks a lot

u/Caboose619 · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

SMSL AD18 and Micca rb42 would be a good desktop setup. The amp has a headphone output you can also use, Bluetooth if you ever wanted to listen to music off your phone and a controller if you're away from your desk. Easy upgradability for future reference. The speakers produce good bass on their own which is great because that sounds better than having a desk between you and a subwoofer.

some Class D amps/DAC combos have remotes if all you need is 2.0 or 2.1

Topping MX3

thanks for the details.

so you definitely are needing powered speakers or an amp and speakers.

personally, i'd lean towards the Ai60s just for the convenience of the blue-tooth and optical input options, and the remote to switch between your sources is a bonus. powered speakers mean less cables, which may be less of an advantage for you, since you already have a stack of components.

if you don't mind the less bassy frequency response of the Eris 4.5's, i think they are a great brand and product line.

plus lower price than the Ai60's, and they are true studio monitors.

for more money you can get a pair of Micca MB42X - $80

a powered 8" sub - $150

and a 2.1 amp - $150

Speakers:Micca RB42

Amp:SMSL AD18

This setup would get plenty loud with good bass on a desktop. If you're looking for serious volume, you may have to find a more sensitive speaker.

u/m0dera · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

If you wanted to save some desk space then you could get a something like a SMSL AD18 but you'll likely giving up some power to go that route but you get an external DAC and a small form factor amp.

u/ibluestone3 · 0 pointsr/vintageaudio

Thank you very much for the detailed response! So far leaning towards storing the SA-5000 for the future, swapping/selling the Amps for a modern bluetooth-enabled micro unit like this one and getting a small, basic turntable preamp.
