That's not remotely comparable in price since it's 1/4 the size. Luckily this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LGF54XR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is one sale for $100 pretty often so your point is still mostly valid.

  • CPU Cooler
    • Very good
  • CPU
    • Check here - it looks like for animation/rendering, you'll get better absolute performance, and performance/dollar, from a Ryzen CPU (the 3000 series just released, and, unlike past generations, the highest core count CPU also has the highest single core boost, so it's pretty insane, as showcased by the placement of the 3900x on the chart in that link).
  • SSD
    • I assume animation workloads require streaming large files, so you'll do better with a faster NVMe SSD, as opposed to the SATA SSDs you chose. Here are two choices that should work well---with the Sabrent, you could get just one 2TB drive; but if you go with two 1TB drives make sure your motherboard has 2 full speed M2 slots. If you do end up going with something like the Ryzen 3900x CPU, then you can even get an X570 motherboard which supports PCIe4, allowing you to get even faster NVMe SSDs (though they're twice as expensive, so check benchmarks for your particular applications to see if it's worth it over spending the money on a GPU/CPU upgrade).

Ignore the P1 it's QLC there is no reason to get QLC now that the TLC drives have come down in price substantially.

This comes out at 99.98 after the voucher is applied, has a high end controller and toshiba TLC memory. Runs ~same speed as samsung 970 evo.

u/SupNinjaa · 9 pointsr/buildapcsalesuk

Link. The voucher is for 14%, and is applied directly under the price just by ticking the voucher box. Total is £101.47, which is worth it as it's a much faster drive.

u/UsePreparationH · 8 pointsr/buildapcsales

The MX500 SSD is a SATA based SSD which maxes out at ~560MB/s, this one is NVME based and maxes out at 1800MB/s.

You can see the 1TB MX500 and 1TB 660p compared in this review.

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-ssd-660p-qlc-nvme,5719-2.html

If you want something faster then you may want to look at Phison E12 based SSDs which start at ~$110. Anything past that such as the Samsung 970 EVO starts getting way too expensive with a 500GB drive costing about the same as this 1TB 660p.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LGF54XR/

The Corsair Sabrent Rocket, Corsair MP510, Silicon Power P34A80, and a few others are all E12 based SSDs and will all perform about the same.

Is there any reason to get this instead of a Sabrent Rocket for $9 less? (Aside from the additional 50 MB/s read which is pretty negligible at 3450 MB/s)

u/Trexfromouterspace · 6 pointsr/buildapc

I'm not telling you to get a 1TB 970 Evo, I'm telling you to get a 1TB SSD from a different brand. I linked them earlier, but again, this or this.

If you're worried about money, you should in absolutely no circumstances be buying a 970 evo. It's overpriced at all capacities.

u/rallymax · 5 pointsr/buildapc

m.2 is just a socket. It's preferrable to 2.5" since it doesn't involve any wires.

M.2 can run both SATA or NVME SSDs. Sabrent Rocket is inexpensive M.2 NVME that's within price of many SATA SSDs. However, to answer your question - for playing video games SATA SSD to NVME SSD is not as much of improvement as HDD to SSD.

u/coololly · 5 pointsr/buildapc

970 Evo Plus' are stupidly overpriced.

For context, you can get a 1TB Sabrent Rocket which performs basically identical for half the price of a 1TB 970 evo plus.

It's not QLC from what I understand and performs better. Obviously I've not tested yet but I was looking at similar options to yourself and came to this.

u/ReipasTietokonePoju · 4 pointsr/cinematography

You can, but if you want to use for example 960 gig SSD, it probably has to be the same one that Red uses.

There is NO technical reason for this, but they most likely detect the SSD firmware version / SSD manufacturer for the drive and then artificially prevent other SSD drives running.

Currently 960 GB Red Mini-Mag costs about 2500 dollars.
While at the same time:

https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Rocket-Internal-Performance-SB-ROCKET-1TB/dp/B07LGF54XR/

... you can get same size SSD drive for 100 dollars. So only about 24X (!!!) markup from Red. And that 100 dollar SSD has at least 10 times faster write speed.

SSD graphic breakdown.

The important thing to note here is that M.2 is just the form factor/connector. The actual speed difference comes from SATA vs PCIe/NVMe protocols. An M.2 SATA drive is no faster than a standard 2.5" SATA drive.

> Is there really any major benefit to the Samsung for nearly twice the price?

The 970 Evo Plus is slightly faster, however 99% of use cases will not have any noticeable difference. The Sabrent Rocket or the MP510 that you found are some of the best price/performance NVMe drives, and generally a much better option than the expensive Samsung drives.

u/sevayne7 · 3 pointsr/buildapc

That can handle 1440p no problem. The 970 evo is expensive tho. I've heard the Sabrent Rocket is a great SSD. I'd consider this instead of the 2 drives you listed if you don't have a lot of software and put the money saved to RAM with 3600 MHz speed

u/mattymims · 3 pointsr/buildapcforme

Also, I like your build, but I have a few suggestions

CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor

Nice. While the 3700x is clearly better for video editing, better in this case only means that it saves you time. And while time is nice, I think it'd be better to use that $140 towards a second monitor.

CPU Cooler - ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO CPU Cooler

I feel like you would be better off either buying a better cooler or just sticking with the stock cooler, because I don't think this one will let you oc much more than the Wraith.

Motherboard - MSI MPG X570 GAMING PRO CARBON WIFI

I don't think your use-case justifies an X570 board, I'd recommend the Aorus Pro with WiFi or the Aorus Elite without WiFi, and I would again say to use the extra $100+ towards that second monitor.

Memory - Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory

Nice. 3600 would be better, but if you can't find a 3600 set for a reasonable price, then you can try to manually oc this 3200 set to 3600.

Storage - Crucial MX500 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive

This is really important and confused me when M.2 drives first came out. Some SSDs have different physical Form Factors and electrical Interfaces.

Two common Form Factors are 2.5 inch and M.2 - Again, these are just physical, not too much of a difference here other than size.

Two common Interfaces are SATA III and PCIe - This is the important part, because SATA III has a maximum theoretical throughput of 600 MB/s, while PCIe Gen 3 4x has a maximum theoretical throughput of about 4000 MB/s

In this case, the Crucial MX500 is an SSD that uses the M.2 Form Factor and SATA III Interface. If you check it's rated read/write speeds, it's about 560/510 MB/s respectively, which would make sense given that it's SATA III.

But this doesn't mean that all NVMe PCIe SSDs can achieve read and write speeds of 4000 MB/s. This just means that if you see an M.2 SATA SSD, you know that it's not gonna be faster than 600 MB/s, but an M.2 PCIe SSD can be faster than 600 MB/s.

Maybe I went on for too long, anyway, my SSD suggestions would be:

Samsung 970 Evo 1TB for $169.99, my personal preference, nice brand, nice speeds (3500MB/s read, 2500MB/s write), nice warranty (5 years)

Sabrent Rocket 1TB for 109.98, I haven't personally used it, not familiar with the brand but this specific product of theirs has a lot of positive reviews, similar speeds (3450MB/s read, 3000MB/s write), ok warranty (1 year?... some people question this)

Intel 660p 1TB for 89.99, I haven't personally used it, nice brand, nice speeds (1800MB/s read, 1800MB/s write), nice warranty (5 years)

Video Card - MSI GeForce RTX 2070 8 GB Video Card

Strictly gaming performance wise, the 5700 XT is better than the 2070. On top of that, it's around $30 cheaper.

General performance is tough to compare. And on top of that, they each have their own individual benefits in different video editing programs.

If video editing is mostly just a side thing, then the 5700 XT looks like the card for you. But if you are serious about video editing, then you're gonna have to do some research on which GPU is best for you.

Power Supply - EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650 W 80+ Gold Fully Modular

Nice, but it seams a little overpriced. The Corsair RM650x is also 80+ Gold and fully modular, but $20 cheaper.

Monitor - I'm tired, so I'm going to bed, but I personally use 2 monitors:

27" 4k 60Hz for content consumption

24" 1080p 144Hz VA for that juicy smooth gaming

I wish I got a 27" 1080p so they'd match in size but the increased pixel density of the 24" is probably better anyway.

Good luck with whatever you decide to build :D

u/TravonsGhost · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Everything looks compatible, memory is listed in QVL. Wouldn't hurt to bump up the PSU to a 600/650 to play it safe, but you'll probably be fine with that. As far as the M2 drive, you can get the sabrent rocket for a little more and it's twice the capacity.

As pcpartpicker points out, you may have to do a bios update to use that cpu. There are 570 boards like this one in the same price range if you'd be more comfortable with that.

u/cyberintel13 · 3 pointsr/buildapc

The Sabrent Rocket m.2 3400MB/s 1TB SSD is just as fast as a 970 evo but its only $109. It also has a 5yr warranty and longer life (TBW=1665) than a 970 evo. This is the best value / performance in m.2 SSD on market right now.

u/SwimmingJunky · 3 pointsr/buildapc

For just a $20 difference, I'd recommend getting https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LGF54XR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_x-2hDbYG4F6GP

It'll be much faster than the SATA since it's NVMe and it's double the storage space.

u/AlphaGamer753 · 3 pointsr/buildapcsalesuk

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sabrent-Rocket-Internal-Performance-SB-ROCKET-1TB/dp/B07LGF54XR/

A much, much faster NVMe SSD which is £99.98 if you tick the box that says "Apply 16% voucher". Would recommend this over the 860 EVO.

u/EndTrophy · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Hmm if they don't honor it would you say this from Amazon is a good deal/alternative? I think it gets down to $100

u/uradonkey003 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

LOL this is not how thermal dynamics works

You can just leave the M.2 sheild off as you have to remove it to install the M.2 anyway.

Or get this NVME without a heatsink -https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LGF54XR/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/NewMaxx · 2 pointsr/NewMaxx

It's just because you linked to your user saved list, the new link is fine.

The X570 pairs well with a high-performance NVMe drive. There is a decent selection of great drives right now. Since you mentioned budget I figured you'd want the best value in that segment. That would be the Sabrent Rocket, although there are other drives that share its hardware like the Silicon Power P34A80 or Addlink S70. The Rocket is the cheapest but you might trust one of the other two brands more (although I'd consider them all around the same quality). This assuming you're looking for 1TB.

It's possible to get the QLC-based Intel 660p or Crucial P1 for cheaper at 1TB and for most things they'll be just as fast. Their performance is not as consistent especially when fuller, however, due to the nature of QLC. They are an excellent value so you may want to consider that - Linus Tech Tips has a video on the 660p (the P1 has the same hardware, more or less). Alternatively there are SM2262/EN drives like the EX920 but this drive is aging a bit and at equal price I'd probably take one of the drives linked above. HP's support is suspect as well.

If you decide to go with the Rocket, be sure to check out Sabrent's site: they have a utility for formatting the drive if required (only needed if you are going to clone the OS to the new drive, and maybe not even then) and you have to register the drive to get the full five-year warranty.

This is a fine build, but usually Samsung drives are overpriced. Nothing particularly wrong with them, but you can get more bang for your buck with things like the intel 660p or the rocket drive that I’m forgetting the name of.

Here’s what I was forgetting

Double the storage for 25% ish more but you get the idea.

u/SneakySniper · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Going off of this list, you shouldn't have any real issues. The m.2 drive warning is just letting you know that any SATA drive plugged in needs to be on a different port than where the m.2 is going to disable. Check the motherboard manual, it should tell you when you're building.

The clearance warning for the cooler shouldn't be a big issue either, I've built with the Cooler Master 212 and Corsair Vengeance before and had no issues.

You can always go with a lesser m.2 drive as well to save a few dollars. Most people won't notice the difference between the Samsung 970 Evo and something like the ADATA drive (which can be generally found for less on sale) or the Sabrent drives.

If I'm incorrect on anything, someone please let me know.

u/QuinndianaJonez · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Some thoughts,

3700x comes with a pretty good cooler (wraith prism) which also looks cool and is free.

Use the savings to get a better x570 board....

~$160 Asus Prime X570-P

~$190 Asus Tuf gaming x570

~$200 Gigabyte Aorus Elite

Since you are going for x570, why not use an NVMe drive instead of the old SATA? It will be many times faster.

Sabrent Rocket 1tb $110

What monitor will you be using ? What is the resolution and refresh rate? That will determine how much you need to spend on a GPU. the 2080 is great but unless you are playing at 4k or you are a competitive gamer, I'd say you can definitely get something less expensive.

u/Knobbytires69 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I think it looks good but I think you're better off with another M.2 ssd to something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Rocket-Internal-Performance-SB-ROCKET-1TB/dp/B07LGF54XR. From what you describe, I don't think you'll benefit or notice the speed difference between a cheaper 1TB m.2 drive vs a 500gb Samsung 970 EVO

u/Halbzu · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Okay, I just had closer look at your motherboard. I assumed you only had 1 m.2 slot, but there are 2, one pci and 1 sata.
The M.2 ssd you got uses SATA. So it's the same speed as the older 2.5 inch drives, which is not bad, but there are m.2 nvme out there, which are roughly the same price and even faster. You can either keep the wd blue or replace it while you can still return your parts. If you choose to keep it, make sure to put it in the m.2 slot with the sata port (M2_2 on your manual) so that the faster pci slot stays free for a possible upgrade in the future.

u/yasha_ · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I wanna get a m.2 drive, but there are so many companies that I've never heard of. I want to get the Samsung 970 EVO, but that thing is so expensive compared to M.2 SSDs from Addlink, Sabrent and Silicon Power. The thing is, I've never heard of these companies so it makes me wary to buy these SSDs, especially since I'm planning on making it my boot drive. Do I have anything to worry about? Are these SSDs just as good as the Samsung 970 EVO? Does any one have experience with any of these M.2 drives?

Ok couple things:

  • Real good motherboard choice, Z370 is the way to go
  • Cooler: I'm a shill but the Noctua NH D15 is champ, just gotta get over the fan colour. My hack is absolutely quiet
  • Samsung Drive: Ditch it, firmware doesn't play nicely causing random stutters and delayed boot times(this is all NVMe Samsung drives, not just the 970 Evo Plus). Can get same performance from a Sabrent Rocket or for workhorse drive grab a WD SN750. Oh look at that, got you a 1TB drive for the price of a 512GB Samsung(Amazon)
  • CPU is really tight, if possible try to go for an i5. You're right at the edge of getting out of the #LowlyQuadCoreLyfe (love you i7 6700k but christ I can't wait to upgrade). i5 9400f is a real good deal(wait a hot second, found the 9400F for $140 USD. I see no reason to grab the i3). Main issue with going for 9th gen is it will need a BIOS update so Z390 might be a better idea. Don't worry about no iGPU, setting the boardID to iMacPro1,1 will get better performance out of the RX 580 compared to the UHD630

This thread is about month old so not sure if I'll get a response.

I bought this M.2 Drive for my secondary drive and it did not work. It either would not load windows from the primary after installation or the disk manager would not detect even if the BIOS did. What makes it different than the Crucial M.2 or the Sabrent both which have been claimed to work?

I'm pretty much having this exact issue.

EDIT: I returned the ADATA drive and bought the Sabrent. The Sabrent worked fine when I restarted my computer once after the installation.

Question about NVME m.2 SSDs.

Started building a new Ryzen based build during Prime days. Intent was to buy two 1TB SSDs, one for boot+programs and another for games only. Literally only just learned about m.2 during the sale, and with limited education on the subject bought a Crucial P1 1TB from Newegg in a bundle with some ram, with the intention of buying a second if I could catch a sale (I missed them all for that particular drive). In the meantime, I've educated myself on the subject and learned about TLC vs QLC and how QLC speeds can plummet under long usage, and don't work well once 70% or more full.

Doing more research, it seems like the Sabrent Rocket is a very good budget TLC drive, so I'm think I'm going to pick up at least one, but now I'm considering buy two to use over the Crucial P1. Problem is, since it's part of a bundle I can't return it on its own (not to mention having to pay for return shipping) so I'm kinda flummoxed on what to do. In a vacuum where the effort of disposing of the Crucial wouldn't matter, should I get two Sabrents and sell the Crucial, or are the horror stories not a big deal and just keep the Crucial and get one Sabrent. And if I go that route, which one would be better as the gaming drive?

u/ch3w2oy · 2 pointsr/Amd

Get a cheaper 1TB NVMe. You don't need gen 4 and it's nearly double the cost right now. The SX8200 PRO 1tb is on sale at Newegg, at least in the US.. But even something like this is a solid option!

For motherboards, I like the MEG ACE and VIII Hero. I opted for the Hero, personally.. All X570 boards are nice so just get the one with the feature set you like the most. The Phantom Gaming X is very nice as well! Good cheaper options include the Strix, Pro Carbon, Edge and Gigabyte Aorus boards..

RAM, I suggest you get a decent 3600MHz kit.. If you go lower I would overclock it but it looks like RAM isn't as important this time around but I wouldn't get less than 3200MHz..

u/WhtATime · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I suggest the sabrent rocket, the read and write speeds are just about the same as the 970 evo plus, while being more than 50% cheaper. I have been using this for months now as my boot drive and it has performed excellent. The only downside is you will need a fresh install of windows.

u/10pmStalker · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

How much better is this than the SB-ROCKET-1TB?

u/steop · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Am I wrong that It doesn't worth to pay $115 for the XPG instead of paying $110 for the Sabrent Rocket?

u/fritocloud · 1 pointr/GamingLaptops

I bought my laptop from Amazon. Was a little worried about it being damaged during shipping but I was confident that Amazon would make things right if that happened. I bought directly from Amazon, rather than from a 3rd party seller (make sure it says "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com" under the Buy button.) Unfortunately for me, when I bought it, it was $1,199 but fortunately for you, it is now $1,088. I'm honestly very surprised they lowered the price like that, considering it was already a steal at $1200 (IMO.) Oh, and for the record, I had no issues with damages during shipping. The laptop was in a box which was in a box which was in another box and there was plenty of protective elements within those boxes.

I have not had too many issues with my thermals, although this is my first gaming laptop so I don't have much to compare it to. I did a lot of reading before buying though so from what I have seen, I think it does a good job of keeping the components cool, even under heavy loads. The highest I have seen it go is around 85°C but once it gets over 80°, I usually either turn the fans up higher and/or get out my cooling pad (I bought this one from Amazon and have been pleased with it.) However, the fans can get really loud, so I use a headset when I have to turn the fans up. In general, the fans are not too loud, though (once again, just my opinion.) I will often play shows on Netflix or Hulu and can hear everything through the laptop speakers with no issues. I do carry around a portable bluetooth speaker for louder environments but when I'm just sitting at home, it is not needed.

I do remember reading that the older models of the Helios 300 (the ones with red accents and backlighting) had a lot of thermal issues and most people who either reviewed both or just owned both said that this model was significantly better in that regard. One thing that I have thought about doing is changing the thermal paste because that would apparently really help the older models but I have not seen any reports of anyone trying it with the 2019 model. I might just give it a shot because it seems like a very cheap and relatively easy way to shave a couple degrees off the temps. I'll have to look into that some more.

I actually have heard of that good xbox gamepass deal but I had no idea that it had PC games. As someone who has pretty much only gamed on PlayStation (at least since the early 2000's), I often forget that Xbox is owned by Microsoft so it makes sense they would have PC games. I will definitely be signing up for that after I finish writing this comment. Thank you so much for clueing me in.

One other thing, you will probably want to quickly buy another m.2 SSD because the one that comes with the laptop is fairly small. Just be careful about the one you buy because they are not all compatible, apparently. I am pretty sure that Acer has a list out there somewhere (though I don't think the list is all inclusive) but I bought this Sabrent 1TB drive based on what another reddit user recommended and have been very happy with it. It was extremely easy to install as well. I haven't gotten around to buying an 2.5" drive yet but I'll probably pick up a very large HDD around Christmas time. Or I might go for the SSD, maybe sacrificing a little bit of storage. I'll have to check prices at the time and think on that some more.

And no problem. I love talking about this laptop and I also enjoying helping people out so no worries. If you think of anything else you want to ask, I'll be here. If not, enjoy your new laptop!

u/NorthStarPC · 1 pointr/buildmeapc

Alright, after an hour of searching and compiling, I’ve come up with an AMD-based build with Full RGB aesthetics.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07SQBFN2D/ref=ox_sc_act_image_8?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

This Processor has an insane value for the money. This will handle moderate workstation, browsing, virtualization, and heavy gaming. I feel like you would benefit from a 3600X rather than a 3600 as it has better stock and OC speeds. The 3600X is only $40 more than the 3600 on Amazon.

GPU: MSI Mech OC Radeon RX 5700 XT

https://www.newegg.com/msi-radeon-rx-5700-xt-rx-5700-xt-mech-oc/p/N82E16814137465?item=N82E16814137465

The 5700 XT will absolutely shred 1080p gaming and excel at 1440p gaming. You can easily achieve 144+FPS at 1080p resolution & max settings on Fortnite, Rust, Rainbow Six Siege, CS:GO, Dota, COD, and Minecraft (with heavy mods) and 100+FPS on many AAA titles. In addition to that, the 5700 XT can even handle 4K gaming in games such as Forza, eSport titles, GTA, etc.
I went with the Mech OC model as it is the best model that is still in stock. It’ll provide better thermals compared to blower-styled reference cards.

RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4-3600 16GB

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07TC4TPCN/ref=ox_sc_act_image_5?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

With Zen 2 natively supporting higher RAM frequencies, there’s no reason to not surpass the 3000MHz threshold. 3600MHz seems to be the “sweet spot” for Zen 2 as suggested by AMD and many other technical experts.

SSD: Sabrent Rocket 4 1TB NVMe SSD

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07LGF54XR/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A29Y8OP2GPR7PE&psc=1

The Sabrent Rocket is among the top of the value for money list in the storage market. This is near equal to Intel’s popular 660p SSD, but it has nearly double the performance. Unlike the Intel 660P, the Rocket 4 uses the Toshiba TLC NAND, which has better quality and sustained speeds during read and write cycles.

MOBO: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus

https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813144262?item=N82E16813144262

This motherboard is a mid-range X570 board. It will enable you to have a very decent OC and RGB Sync experience. I would strongly recommend getting a X570 to get PCIe 4.0 support and bypassing the hassle of a BIOS update.

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W 80+ Gold Modular

https://www.newegg.com/evga-supernova-g3-series-220-g3-0650-y1-650w/p/N82E16817438094?item=N82E16817438094

The last thing you want to do in a build is to cheap out on the power supply. The EVGA SuperNOVA series is one of the best PSU series out there. The G3 650W is fully modular, as well as having a 80+ Gold rating. I also believe there is a 10 year warranty of this model. Also, there is currently a $20 rebate on Newegg for this power supply.

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master ML240L AIO Cooler

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B075YPG52N/ref=ox_sc_act_image_3?smid=A1FEO2FBXOY7WI&psc=1

The ML240L is a perfect option for the 3600X. It is one of the best budget AIOs out there. It will provide better thermals compared to stock coolers and bring better RGB aesthetics to the build.

Case: Thermaltake Level 20 MT RGB Mid-Tower

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07LCMR3JC/ref=ox_sc_act_image_4?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

The Level 20 MT is perfect for this build. This is a case that is known to provide good airflow, which will definitely help with the thermals. It also features 3 TT RGB fans, which can be synced to the RAM, MOBO, GPU, and AIO CPU Cooler.

Monitor: Acer KG241Q 23.6” Full HD 144Hz Monitor

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07MG85X1M/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

The KG241Q is a 1ms, 144hz 1080p monitor with a TN-panel. While the colors are not as vibrant as IPS-Panel monitors, you will get better responsiveness with the TN panels. Also, the KG241Q features AMD FreeSync technology, which can be used to your advantage to reduce stuttering and tearing during gaming, since you have an AMD GPU.

So that’s it. I know this a $100-200 over $1400. But this is a build with no $$$ wasted. If you have any questions, fell free to reply or PM me.

Hi, I'm interested in getting the Sabrent Rocket on sale. I'm debating between the 1TB vs 2TB. I could have sworn I read something saying the performance on the 2TB for the e12 SSDs being worse than the 1TB. Any truth or am I misremembering?

Also any reason to grab Inland over this?

Looks like a solid build, Including a wide 1440p monitor could easily bring you over 1500, so heres some options to reduce the price on your current one without impacting performance.

1: switch to a good quality b450 motherboard. This one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XHH4YG4?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 supports ryzen 3rd gen out of the box.

2: Go down to a 650 watt power supply. This one https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Modular-Warranty-Supply-210-GQ-0650-V1/dp/B017HA3SQ8/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=650+watt+power+supply&qid=1572129915&s=electronics&sr=1-3 is listed for 25$ less than your 750.

4: This ssd https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Rocket-Internal-Performance-SB-ROCKET-1TB/dp/B07LGF54XR/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=1tb+nvme+ssd&qid=1572130266&s=electronics&sr=1-7 is 50$ cheaper with the same storage and read/write speeds of 3,500/2,500 MB/s (samsung), 3450 MB/s (read) and 3000 MB/s (write). (sabrent)

I recently upgraded from a data 1 tb ssd to the adata sx8200 1tb ssd. The real qorld difference is negligible. I will say that as nvme is increasingly there will likely be innovative ways to ise them.

I would suggest getting a sabrent nvme they are a reputable company and they have the cheapest NVME 1TB drive that I have seen.

When posted this i just looked at the specs. In that i mean like the basic not the generation or how high the number is. I still have no idea what the difference between a 1660ti and 1650ti. What i mean is i understand the higher the number the better but not really sure performance wise.

I talked to people on the discord and they helped me decide what laptop to get and how to solve me problem.

I am going to get the Helios 300 with a M.2 Sabrent 1TB SSD and a Heatsink for the SSD.

u/ThinkMention · 1 pointr/buildapc

No need for H100i with that processor, many cheaper options here : big noctuas, big be quiet, cryorig R1 and other dual tower dual fan designs

C7H WiFi is the better option at price range

3600C16 instead of 3600C18

SSD is overpriced, this better at same price or this, if you want 2.5" then the 860 evo is worth it's overprice in terms of quality

P1 is QLC so understand it's limitations before spending a M.2 slot for it

Arguably at that case price range you should look for full tower cases.

u/Javild · 1 pointr/JAVILD

Well, you could go that route and get different drives for each thing which is the best option for performance.

Right now you can get an NVMe SSD at the price of a SATA SSD so you should get that instead.

So, what I recommend doing is removing the HDD and replacing it with a PCIE 3 SSD which you can use for OS and Software, and you keep the PCIE 4 SSD which you will use for the files. Then later on you can buy an HDD, possibly even an external one. Best Buy usually has an external WD 10TB HDD for around $170 and an 8TB for $120.

This is the PCIE 3 SSD I recommend

u/Eternal_Ohm · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'd go for Ryzen as Intel is mainly good for gaming at high FPS and that's only their high end chips like the 9700K and 9900K but for multi-threaded workloads Ryzen is a much better choice. Also you could go for a Corsair Sabrent Rocket it's much larger and similar to the price as the current SSD you're getting, Samsung 970 Evo's are often criticized for being overpriced.

u/Warskull · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

Not really, $100-130 is about what 1tb m.2 drives cost these days. Not even Samsung's drives actually cost $200 for 1tb these days and they tend to be the highest priced due to their reputation for performance.

It is a slight deal, saving $10-$15. $200 is a made up price.

This sub has a huge problem with being unable to recognize actual deals. They tend to fall for things selling slightly below their actual price, but with a really high MSRP listed. They are all like those housewives that would tear up Macy's and JCPenny for clothes with a 80% off sign, but still end up costing more than you would pay if you just bought them online.

This actually tends to be a bad place to find deals. You find better deals on subs dedicated to the hardware parts or using tools like PC part picker.

What is the build's purpose? This is a pretty imbalanced gaming build but could be good for general use with some productivity and light gaming.

You're overspending on RAM, you're better off with a lower timings and lower speed sticks, for example this kit at 3200MHz CL16.

You should be going with an NVME drive at that price/GB, here is a great option by Sabrent.

For $84 you do have some other good cooler options, the Dark Rock Pro 4 and Noctua NH-D15S are other comparable options. The Noctua is the best for performance/noise by a small margin.

Also instead of spending $170 on an H500 and fans, just get the H510 Elite with the same fans and controller included, and you get a nicer glass front panel to show them off.

Unless you want to edit 4k, which you can't anyway for a 1080p monitor, 32gb ram is very very overkill. 16 is already more than enough for 1080p. To put in perspective, 16gb will bet you running chrome, discord, a game, and like a recording software at the same time smoothly and probably still with a little left.

Here's a good 1440p

for ssd my go to is the sabrent 1tb.

Otherwise it looks good. You don't need the aftermarket cooler as the stock one is quite good, but if you enable precision boost in ryzen master you might want the extra thermal headroom. It looks like you have the hyper 212 rgb added, I've used the non rgb one before, its total overkill for a 65w chip but its a great value.

u/Pecansandiez · 1 pointr/buildapc

M.2 slots are usually cheaper per gig atm. The PSU is (mostly) fine, the extra 4 pins on that motherboard are for LN2 cooling so no worries.

Longevity should be a non issue.

Though i would not get that 1TB NVME ssd, its overpriced and 1TB will be eaten alive by any games so you may want.

SSD's only make game loading faster, they do not give you more FPS

Here: I made some modifications to your build

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KfP3FG

This shifts the budget to a better power supply while shifting to a smaller capacity SATA SSD yes but NVME really isnt worth the price premium IMHO and i will be honest I think 1TB SSD's are still a bit too pricey.

NVME is only better for fast data transfer and or if you are going to make this into a media content creation PC but otherwise I would skip it.

Its still better to pair a traditional SSD with a HDD for mass storage, SSD's are great boot drives yes and having them is a great boon indeed.

But as having games on them..... eh its nice to have but not needed.

I mean if you still want a NVME 1TB ssd well there are cheaper options such as this:

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-1TB-NAND-NVMe-PCIe/dp/B07J2Q4SWZ/ref=asc_df_B07J2Q4SWZ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309818716690&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=973939605986231758&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-561975664289&th=1

I hear good things about the sabrant rocket, a fairly affordable NVME SSD.

Sabrent isnt like samsung (they are a bit of a off brand) but its not a bad deal there :D

If your gaming, and you want the absolute top of the line then wait and get the i9-9900ks in 2 weeks or less. The Ryzen is the top for productivity. The cooler is very average, atleast go with an AiO cooler if you don't want to invest into custom waterloops.

PSU is way too overkill, also consider getting an EVGA branded RTX 2080Ti for the hassle free return policy if things were to go wrong down the line. If you live near a microcenter, grab the 1tb nvme ssd from inland premium, it's nearly identical speeds for about $100, The Sabrent Rocket NVME 1TB is also in the same league.

I dont know, i got a sabrent rocket 1 tb off the sabrent amazon store for $125. They had a coupon for $25, its normally $150. I confirmed in crystal disk mark z370 a read of 3450 and write of 3050. So 3rd party drive makers are joining the party so i might say hold.

Depends what you consider cheap. Best you can get is probably 142.22€ for the Saberent Rocket if that is worth it to you. Costs a bit more, but you don't have think that much about storage and speed.

Stuck with Intel because that was your initial choice, didn't want to jump straight into a different platform on you.

Far better performance for your dollar. You will not notice a difference in gaming performance between the 9600k and 9700k because they got rid of the hyperthreading advantage on i7 CPUs. Now the only difference is 6 vs 8 core which again will do nothing in games.

I have this cooler on my 9600k @ 5ghz/1.35v and it keeps it around 55-60c in games. Other options are the scythe ninja 5, dark rock 4, dark rock pro 4. The corsair h100i is a massive waste of money.

Switched ram to 16gb because 32gb will do literally nothing for you if you're gaming and doing office work.

Swapped to a different 1tb SSD with the same performance without the samsung upcharge. If you wanted to get a much faster drive for the same price as the 860 evo check out this and this, but a sata SSD is more than enough. The su800 is a great drive.

2070 with the leftover budget because it is a massive upgrade from the 1660ti. However if you're only gaming at 1080p just stick with a 2060 and save some money.

Swapped to a better PSU, and 750w was overkill. This and the rm650x(2018) are both top tier options.

The mobo is fine but now you have money for a slightly nicer one if you need any extra features or want to go for bigger overclocks.
u/brendanw36 · 1 pointr/buildapc

The one thing I would recommend is this 2TB M.2 drive instead of the one you have. It's a little cheaper, but of the same quality as the Samsung one you had. They are both TLC M.2 SATA drives so they should perform the same. I also semi-hesitantly recommend this M.2 NVMe because on paper this one is almost exactly the same as the one you have listed, but the one thing I can't tell is if it is SLC/MLC/TLC etc. The read and writes speeds are basically the same which means that they should be the same, but manufactures rarely report the bits per cell so I just can't 100% confirm it.

u/WeeklyBaby · 1 pointr/buildapc

Honestly just heard about them today, too. Here are some reviews on Amazon.

u/Sinklarr · 1 pointr/Games

How noticeable is the speed increase of a M.2 nVME compared with a standard SATA AHCI SSD in gaming? For example, does it make the wait between turns in Civ shorter, or would it be just for the initial loading? Does that change significantly?

Sorry for the load of questions, I'm just looking to buy one (possibly this one ) and I want to make sure.

u/WhtTimeIsIt · 1 pointr/buildapc

You’re paying for the brand name with Samsung. But check this out, read and write speeds of 3400/3000, while the intel has 1800/1800 read write. So nearly double the speeds for $15 more.

I currently have my OS and a few games on a 256 GB Samsung 960. Most games and other files are on a 7200 rpm 512 gb HDD. I mostly use my PC for gaming, some video downloads (no monster 4K files), and I dont do any media editing.

I am looking to upgrade the HDD to a 1TB SSD. Ideally it would be M.2 NVMe but open to other options. I have the option to ship US products to a US address and grab them.

I am looking for recommendations on what drive would fit best.

From brief research I've found the following:
Sabrent rocket (USD 100) - https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Rocket-Internal-Performance-SB-ROCKET-1TB/dp/B07LGF54XR

This is much better than the 660p and the same price. While the speeds aren't noticeable too much, it is much faster, has much better endurance, and will not slow down too much when it gets full.

do you know if the 256 ssd or the 1 tb are 2.5inch or m.2 form factor? i suspect the 1tb is 2.5inch and the 256gb is m.2, but i can't know for certain. you may have to put the new ssd where the 256gb is since it will likely go in the one slot available. The 970 evo will do just fine for your needs. If you want something cheaper that performs a bit worse/has less endurance rating you could get an intel 660p. It's not as good as the samsung drive but it is much cheaper. You would likely never notice the difference between the two for normal everday use.

EDIT: This looks like a good purchase at the moment at $110 -

I think that looks good, but I'd get this ssd instead:
https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Rocket-Internal-Performance-SB-ROCKET-1TB/dp/B07LGF54XR

You might want to consider spending a bit more on a case. That one may be fine but you certainly get what you pay for and you can get something like an nzxt h500 for around $70. I'd look at the h500 and fractal meshify c.

u/stikves · 1 pointr/intelnuc

If they are going to shoot pictures / videos, they might need an external drive or a NAS. However for regular desktop use, including browsing and office work a single SSD should be more than enough.

(Remember, Surface Pro and many similar devices come with 128GB - 512GB storage range).

Recently 1TB nvme devices have become much cheaper, sometimes going under $100. That could be the minimum you'd want to put on the device.

Example: https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Rocket-Internal-Performance-SB-ROCKET-1TB/dp/B07LGF54XR/ [currently $120, but can setup a deal alert, last one was on Jul 01, 2019)

Please go the NVMe route. The speeds on sata SSDs are down right terrible. The drive you listed read and write speeds are 550MBs/520MBs, I purchased this Sabrent Rocket. I'm getting over 6 times better read (3,450MBs) and over 5 1/2 times better write (3,005 MBs) speeds than the drive you listed. You won't need any cables as the drive will directly mount to your motherboard.

Very light issues this time, and it mostly revolves around value.

-CPU: I rarely recommend X SKUs for Ryzen, largely because you can overclock the non-X to the same clocks in almost any circumstance. But, if you don't want to mess with clocks, it's a good enough CPU for what it is. Since your initial post, though, 3rd-gen Ryzen (aka Zen 2) CPUs have come out and the 3600 has emerged as one of the best value gaming CPUs. If you could spare another $25, that'd be a much better option. Otherwise, I'd step down to the 2600. Keep in mind that you might have to request a boot kit from AMD to use 3rd-gen Ryzen with B450 boards.
-CPU Cooler: The Wraith cooler in box is actually just fine and if you want to save $40 you can drop the cooler entirely, but having seen the Deepcool Gammax GT BK in person I have to say it's a downright gorgeous cooler if you're into the RGB craze. It's about on par with the often-recommended Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, with roughly the same design, just prettier RGB lights vs, for example, the Hyper 212 Black RGB.
-Motherboard: Your case can support full-ATX, and the full-ATX version of the motherboard you picked is $10 cheaper after rebate. The Pro4 has some of the better VRMs for B450, making for some decent overclocks, but the king of B450 boards is still the MSI B450 Tomahawk.
-RAM: No complaints here. You could step down to a brand like XPG to get RGB cheaper, but Corsair RGB is typically less fuss.
-Storage: The drive you've picked is a SATA M.2, and is honestly a great drive that I'd recommend. Still, considering you can step up to PCIe for $5 cheaper, that's probably what I'd suggest. Given how much I've hocked this drive lately I feel like people are wondering if I'm paid off by Sabrent, but it's just a really good value, using a top-tier controller with top-tier flash from Toshiba. Just remember to register it so you can get a five-year warranty, it's three years otherwise.
-GPU: I just about had a heart attack, thinking that AMD GPU prices had gone up again, but it turns out this one is just overpriced. The best RX 580 on the market is $220 right now, but I'd actually probably suggest going for Nvidia with a GTX 1660 or even 1660 Ti, both much better graphics cards for the money these days.
-Case: The airflow on this one is kind of meh thanks to the glass front panel, making air have to turn to get in, but it's a great looking case. Honestly, for the parts you have it's probably fine. Just keep in mind that it only comes with a single fan at the back, you'll want to buy some more for at least the front for some air intake.
-PSU: The trade war is unfortunately hitting power supplies hard, so just about any suggestions I could give for this are pricey. Still, at the price you're buying this, it looks like the EVGA G1+ is a better deal at $80 with no rebate for a fully modular PSU on a slightly better FSP platform vs. the CX550M's Great Wall platform. It's also 650W vs 550W.

Putting all of this together makes for a build that's barely more expensive, about $7 more at time of writing. (Note the incompatibility warning - as I mentioned, third gen Ryzen might need a boot kit from AMD so you can update the BIOS.)

u/cp5184 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Check the reviews and so on, but my recommendation would be to go with a non-x570 board if the money that would go to the x570 could be better spent.

You might look at https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Rocket-Internal-Performance-SB-ROCKET-1TB/dp/B07LGF54XR

but if ssd performance is a big concern for you I'd recommend thinking about the new pci express 4.0 ssd, and, something to note, reviewers have been getting pci express 4.0 ssd performance on non-x570 motherboards...

RAM... Hard to say, I'd recommend maybe two 16GB sticks of good, low latency samsung B-die (google bdie finder), or, if you want, four sticks. You might lose some frequency and latency, but you'd gain in banks and ranks which have a large effect on performance. Banks and ranks operate independently. The more banks and ranks you have, the more operations your RAM is performing in the background... Also you might want to think about ECC, but that's up to you.

I'll guess you use CUDA, so just do your research. Nvidia doesn't give out a lot of free lunches. Particularly if you want DPFP do your research.

The MX500 is a great SSD (I have two), but you'll want to go with an NVMe M.2 drive for your primary boot device.

Amazon has the Sabrent Rocket 1TB for $110. It's one of the best bang for the buck PCI Express 3.0 x4 M.2 drives. Similar Phison E12 controller based drives include the $105 Inland Premium 1TB or Corsair's $125 Force MP510 1TB. These are essentially "template" drives using a common firmware, and will generally perform about the same.

Cost is identical, you gain much higher linear read/write rates, higher IOPS and (marginally) lower access latency. It's also a cleaner installation since it mounts directly to the motherboard.

Edit: Some newer drives utilize PCI Express 4.0 x4 connections to enable higher read/write transfer rates on your X570 platform. Very useful for some tasks (eg, linear video editing), but for most tasks don't offer a massive upgrade from current PCI Express 3.0 x4 drives. Add in the extra expensive (1TB starts at ~$175) and it's tough to recommend for most non power-users at this time.
