A 64GB flash drive should be plenty as far as storage goes, but please please please keep backups elsewhere, such as some cloud service or even another flash drive. If your flash drive dies there's little that can be done to recover the data and you will feel absolutely shitty.

When you have a little extra money to spend, I highly recommend getting something like this. It uses RAID and keeps a copy of the same data on two separate hard drives. That is to say, if one dies, the data is still safe on the second drive. You can then replace the dead drive, and it automatically copies the data over from the good drive to the new one.

But to answer your question: In the meantime, yes, a flash drive is fine, but make frequent backups to something like Google Drive. I'd recommend something like this that's waterproof and has a wide safe temperature range (in case it's left in a car or something).

Good luck!

I've had a Samsung BAR 128 on my keychain for three years. Works great. Write speeds can be a little erratic but usually 30-60 mb/s. Much faster than any other inexpensive flash drives I've owned.

They've since updated it with the Bar Plus with USB 3.1. It looks like the write speeds are down to less than 40 now from people who've tested it. Reads are still crazy fast.

At 22 bucks for 128 and all metal waterproof shockproof design it's a decent option. There's probably stuff with better write speeds, but you're going to have to get that M.2 enclosure setup for anything really really good.

I own one of these Samsung flash drives and it sits on my keychain, attached to a larger fishing swivel for easy access. The metal dings easy but it's held up for 6+ months so far.

I had a plastic one for keychain use by Sandisk that fell apart. Currently using a metal one made by Samsung on my key chain. So far so good

It's this flash drive. It is pretty thin.

I can't get anything to show up in iFile or Filza. I managed to install CameraConnector on my iOS 10.2 iPhone 6P but the preference bundle is unable to be opened within settings, it needs to be updated.

I have this Samsung USB 3.0 flash drive I just got last week. Plugging it into the CCK directly gives the error message that the devices requires too much power and is incompatible.

For whatever reason, if you use this USB splitter plugged into the CCK and then plug your flash drive into that, it allows you to access the drive...kind of. Your iPhone will automatically launch the Photos app to a tab called Import but nothing will show up if you don't have any photos/videos in a folder called DCIM. I was able to import pictures and videos from the flash drive after I put them within a folder on the drive.

The catch is that you can only import files from the drive in Photos app, you can't watch or view them from the drive. You can only see the thumbnails. And nothing in iFile or Filza works any more. I used the tweak Mounted and also CameraConnector and I got nothing.

Also, I then formatted the drive to HFS+ or whatever and put a video on the drive. My phone reboots after about 10 seconds after plugging it in. This has happened twice now.

PS, this Digital/Analog Converter works for me as long as I have a separate power source for the DAC using another USB splitter that splits the power and data into two separate cables.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Nice having those USB ports where I can reach them. Samsung 3.0 64GB for $19.99

I got two of the 64GB versions of these:

Nice thing about these is that they come pre formatted as FAT32. Just have to add the TeslaCam folder and you are good to go.

Have you seen Corsair Survivor series? The drive is enclosed in a metal protective case, which is opened by unscrewing the drive from it.

If you want a unique flash drive, I think the best option is to buy one with an all-metal body and have it engraved/acid etched. This seems to be the fastest one available.

Most original-looking flash drives are, unfortunately, quite slow :(

I haven't done any precise benchmarks etc but it seems perfectly fine to me. I use this one : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013CCTJKE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

could I run steam and some games off a USB flash drive without having to install on the pc I'm using?

on perhaps this? especially on a machine that would reject any and all installations of any sort I.E. a school or work machine.

I have had no problems out of my metal Samsung USB in over a year of carry. Solid attachment point.

Well I went and bought this thing https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-METAL-Flash-MUF-64BA-AM/dp/B013CCTJKE

Read over a lot of reviews and Samsung seemed the only.. consistent ones I suppose. 30 - 40mb/s write might not be too crazy, but uploading 10GB in a few minutes seems pretty great to me. If it works as reliably as the Samsung memory card I got for my phone a few years ago, that'll be great.

Could you tell me what type of USB stick you were using? I am going to order a new one on Amazon, I'm thinking this: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-METAL-Flash-MUF-64BA-AM/dp/B013CCTJKE/

Cheap SanDisk USB 3.0 drives have been my go to, but now I need to upgrade to 64GB.

My longtime CDJ-using friend recommended this Samsung model that I have on order.

Samsung

They have survived the washing machine and drier as well as been stepped on.

Speed is good and they are bootable and seen as flash drives by windows. I did have a 128 gb one fail on me do to overheating, working on getting a replacement from Samsung.

u/kels0 · 1 pointr/DJs

Anyone using the samsung bar's for their CDJ needs? I did some research a few weeks back and it was in the top 5 in most places. I picked up two 64 gig sticks.
