Yep, I found a 256GB thumb drive for $55 and now I’m Sentry’ing all the time (except in my garage).

Please be careful of temperature tolerances. I bring this up every time someone posts a drive suggestion thread so I'll paste in my usual response:

Be careful with the temperature tolerances of the drives you use if you live in a market with seasons. I looked at the T5 but nyxed it when I saw it's only rated for 5-35 degrees C (41-95F). In Chicago we regularly get well above and below those temps in a car. Cabin overheat won't even kick in yet at 95.
I switched to the Samsung Fit Plus 256gb when I went through 2 other drives last year (polar vortex and one of the drives being a T5) and hazarded a guess that it was too cold and killing the drives. -25°C to 85°C operating limits on this drive (-13 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit). No issues since. Drive capacity is less but now with the self erasing in v10 I don't have to pop it out and erase once a month. Muuuuuch better temp tolerances and physically much smaller drive is nice as it isn't hanging from a cable in the front compartment.

I used to love my WD Passport, until it died. Realized I was better off with something that let me use whatever storage media I wanted. Best of all, this thing lets me one-button back up the SD card to attached USB storage. With a low-profile 256gb thumb drive (eg) permanently slotted into the USB port, the whole thing becomes a shockproof (kinda) waterproof one-touch backup system.

That'll cost you $50 for USB or $30 for a SATA SSD.

I have dozens of drives I've collected over the years, but with storage being so cheap it's easier to transfer your data to a new device rather than rely on a drive so near the end of it's life. Keep the old drive in a bin if you want to keep it for the lulz, but I wouldn't actually use it in my build.

Hello.

Item 1 also depends on if you have FSD or not. FSD buyers seem to get a priority.

Item 2 I have had a Samsung USB drive w 300mb write speeds, for 6 months and have zero issues with it. Can get it here.

#1 - You get a large thumb drive; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D7Q41PM/

#2 - You only need review the videos when you notice a ding or find some other reason. Think of it like insurance.

True, if you want to spend the money an m.2 drive can have huge capacity in a space around the size of a stick of gum.

Otherwise literally any 512gb stick of memory will achieve 4mb/s read/write. If space is your ultimate concern, get a microSD and an ultra compact USB reader. I've seen readers that store the microSD inside the port itself.

Examples: elago Mobile Nano II USB 2.0 microSDHC Flash Memory Card Reader -Works up to 32GB- (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002HGFKR8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Mf7SDbZNNMDGV

Doesn't reach your storage capacity but this would work too for being compact: Samsung MUF-256AB/AM FIT Plus 256GB - 300MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7Q41PM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_hh7SDb5RB1WB2

Having issues with my USB drive for the dashcam. I have two Model 3s, both are SR+, one with FSD and one without. I originally ordered two of these (Samsung 256GB Flash drive) as I saw it recommended on this subreddit. After one of the most recent software updates, both cars started saying that the write speed was too slow. Unplugging and plugging the flash drive back in was a temporary workaround, but after a few minutes or hours the error message would come back, and I confirmed that nothing was being recorded to the drive when the error message was being displayed.

After doing additional research, I ordered this (SanDisk MobileMate microSD card reader) and this (SanDisk 256GB high endurance MicroSD card, specifically advertised for usage with dash cams). It worked fine for me for about 10 days, and then my car simply stopped recognizing it. I plugged it into my computer and confirmed there was nothing wrong with it, it still had all my sentry mode recordings up until November 15th, and then nothing. I ultimately decided to reformat the card again (using Disk Utility on Mac, using FAT) and still the car will not recognize it. I tried it on the other Model 3 and it also does not recognize it, so either Tesla did something again in the most recent software update, or something went wrong with the drive? Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

I bought a 256GB Samsung Flash drive off of Amazon and so far haven't had any issues. This was about two months ago, though.

I use a 256GB for all my PSX games, and another 128GB for all my Retro games.

I don't use Bleemsync, I use autobleem on the 256, and just retroarch on the 128.
