Samsung is dominant these days. Sony is still top quality but tends to be overpriced by a few hundred dollars for the level of quality you're getting.

Almost all TVs have a gaming mode with minimal input lag. It's hard to point to a specific TV right now because all of last year's models have just been cleared out of inventory to make way for a new wave of 2014 models, which haven't been reviewed.

Generally speaking, the best time to buy TVs is during black friday deals or Superbowl deals. March is a tough time to shop. I just bought a:

But it's also tough to recommend since most places will be out-of-stock by now. Go for it if you can find it.
