A simple Canon DSLR with 18-55 kit lens would be a great way into filming. Canons have great video quality and you can get one with a tiltable screen for easily holding the camera down low. If you want to get a fisheye for those classic wide angle skate shots Samyang make a very decent 8mm fisheye which goes for about $250.
Alternatively, Sony DSLRs like the Sony SLT-A58K also have good video, and have image stabilisation built into the camera so you get stabilised video on lenses without image stabilisation built in. The Samyang fisheye is also available for Sony.
