After reading this I picked up a Sandisk External SSD and ran some time tests on PS4. The times below are in MM:SS

Update

I wish I would have tested load in times into strikes. But on average I would say I'm 10-15 seconds ahead of the rest of the fireteam on loading in.

This concept already exists from multiple known brands. Look, for example you can buy that from sandisk and it's even waterproff and weighs 4g less: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-Portable-External-SDSSDE60-2T00-G25/dp/B078SWJ3CF

Why do people crowdfund this? If you can get it instantly, for the same price and without risk right now, just why?

What USB stick is the community buying for dash cam (specifically Model 3)? What feature is most important?

u/ThatOhioGuyFromOhio · 4 pointsr/teslamotors

Guys it's about the read write speed. My old one worked on V9 because it was 300mb/s but it was only recording 3 cameras. With the introduction of the 4th back up camera, 300mb/s wasn't fast enough and I started getting the error. After I bought one with 550mb/s read write, I haven't had any issues since.

Get a quality USB SSD for dashcam+sentry mode recording. You'll want one big enough to hold a decent amount of sentry mode footage bc the software doesn't currently clean up old footage and your drive will eventually fill up and become corrupted requiring a reformat. Only the last hour of dashcam is stored unless you choose to save the last 10 minutes by clicking the icon.

You also want enough space to account for wear leveling and read/write speed impact from low free space. If you Google there is a guide to the best tested SSDs that meet the performance requirements.

I ended up going with this in 500GB: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B078SWJ3CF

People have been saying don’t use a thumb drives for sustained writes for years. Use an SSD people. They can be had for cheap.

I installed Ubuntu Linux on a USB 3.0 SSD and dual boot my chromebook. Gives me a lot more space (it's 240 GB.) If you have USB C on your chromebook you can get an even faster more expensive SSD for it like this one to boot from. I run some Steam games on it just fine. Haven't tried CS GO but I imagine it would work depending on your processor speed. Which chromebook do you have?

Would something like this be a good choice for dashcam/sentry usb.

SSDs are plain more expensive.

That said, I have this little guy and it's vastly improved my load times on Xbox. (Nearly exactly 100%)

I absolutely love the SanDisk "Extreme Portable External" USB line. I have a couple, and they're super fast, and well priced.

I got this one and really like it. And the 500gb is on sale ATM: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B078SWJ3CF

You should have no issues at all. I just picked up the USB-C SSD below and it works perfectly with my PixelBook.

The only thing is that the file managers won't show the drive until you give them access to the drive. The same is true for any external disk.

u/nnewgenn · 1 pointr/SonyAlpha

Does anyone know if you can transfer RAW images from SonyA7iii directly to this external SSD: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078SWJ3CF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It uses USB-C as well.

Hi! I am an OG Xbox one console owner and I am looking at getting an SSD or external hard drive as I want faster loading times and might be running out of space soon. I mainly play Destiny 2, NBA 2k20, and Call of Duty and these games/DLCs will be coming out soon. I delete a lot of games I haven't played in a month, so I usually have no more than 5 games installed. For example, I'll be deleting NBA 2k19 and BO4 so I can install the new COD and 2k20, so space may not be an issue.

I was wondering if you can help a console player. I went on amazon and found a TC SUNBOW 500GB SSD for $90, but found another Samsung 500gb one that is way more expensive. I'll link some others:

Sandisk

ADATA

I may be asking much, but I am wondering what is the difference between some of these. All are about 500gb, but some are way cheaper than others. Is it the brand? Keep in mind, I only am looking to buy an SSD for load times first, storage second (as I mentioned before, I always delete games I'm not playing).

Why not just get something like this

u/nathanboyd46 · 1 pointr/TeslaModel3

This is working well for me. Its lightweight, small, and not overly expensive. You'll have to format it to FAT32, when it arrives of course.

u/C9H13NO3Junkie · 1 pointr/teslamotors

Does anyone see any issue with using this as the TeslaCam drive?

u/MemeDaddyXI · 1 pointr/macbookpro

It's not that, macOS system almost takes up 14 GB of space with other pre-installed apps taking up almost 4-5 GB. The reason I installed it on a HDD as I can do almost everything on macOS except Frontpage 2003(I need it for school) doesn't have a mac version. That's the only reason I installed Windows on a HDD. I'd say, buy an external HDD or an SSD and install Windows on that following the above. That's much better. You can buy this one: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-500GB-Extreme-Portable-External/dp/B078SWJ3CF/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=512+GB+external+ssd&qid=1575065193&sr=8-3

u/Genesis635 · 1 pointr/teslamotors

Hey guys, I'm getting a P3D and have a question about Sentry mode/Tesla Cam recording. I've bought a JEDA Box because I wanted to keep a Wireless charger + a SSD for recording.

Would it be better to go for a portable SSD like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078SWJ3CF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&th=1 , or a SD card with a reader like this: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Endurance-128GB-Micro-Adapter/dp/B07B984HJ5/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title ?

I'm just trying to find the best solution + disk size needed if I wanted to keep it installed for a while. I live in TX so the car may be outside during the summers if that affects the temperatures of the devices, not too sure what to go for.

Laptop. It's my mothers. She has a USB 3.0 port and this SSD.

Is this the one that works directly with an XBOX One? SanDisk 500GB Extreme Portable SSD - SDSSDE60-500G-G25 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078SWJ3CF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_IToUBbY63M30P

u/knexfan0011 · 1 pointr/teslamotors

The optimal Storage solution for dashcam functionality would be a usb SSD like this one for example.

SSDs can withstand way more write-cycles than normal usb sticks due to their more advanced controllers (only relevant if you don't use the entire drive's capacity) and higher binned flash chips.

u/Mike · 1 pointr/macbookpro

AppleCare is worth it in my opinion. For one you have peace of mind, and two when you go to sell it you'll get a higher resale value.

Not sure why you think you need a lot of storage for coding... I'm a designer and front-end dev and it's not like you're constantly editing large 4k videos. I have the 512GB internal drive and supplement with a 500gb external SSD (https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-500GB-Extreme-Portable-SDSSDE60-500G-G25/dp/B078SWJ3CF) which is only $110 and works great. Definitely cheaper than upgrading your internals.

u/AllThree3 · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

Nice. That might be a better option.

I was wrong about the one she let me borrow -- it was a SanDisk. Didn't seem to connect to the Xbox, in guessing it's just the wrong type of drive.
