This may be what they are referring to. It is a 120GB SanDisk SSD for only $28.

u/Burdx · 6 pointsr/starcitizen

This is $40 It's less than you spent getting into the game. Is that really too much?

u/cafecito820 · 6 pointsr/Warframe

It's not ideal, but if you can scrounge up some change for a cheap hard drive, you can move some of your lesser-played games to it. Or just move Warfame to it by itself so it'll always have plenty of space.

You can easily get a small SSD for pretty cheap these days:

You can buy those two drives, BNIB, 2 day Prime shipping, for $82 total. Consider adjusting your asking price.

I'd just get a 120GB SSD for around $45 USD, it'll do the job just fine with plenty of extra room for your primary programs. They're all gonna do the same thing. Mine boots in 10 seconds with a 250GB Evo, but your motherboard is the determining factor when monitoring load speeds.

Edit: If your OS is all you'll use it for, then consider a 60GB SSD instead. But I'd stick to name brands.

I still believe it has something to do with your SSD. That said I am out of ideas but one.

If it were only video drivers, it would have been fixed when you installed the Nvidia drivers assuming you picked the right one for your card. So this is an other thing to look at. If I were in your shoes I would consider all this first with out dismissing the video driver idea just yet. Sometimes SSD's don't play well with Linux.

Hardware for Linux is not abundant then the pay for OS, that includes SSD's. Here are a few links to consider:

I like the last one for a list that it gives. I just happen to have always been using SanDisk and just started to try a few Adata SSD's.

Here. These are decent drives, I have 4 I use in a couple servers and my desktop. Total is under 60 if you’re in the US. Even cheaper if you have amazon prime.

The new one also feels more durable and valuable to the touch because its casing is made out of aluminum. The old one is just a piece of plastic where you have access to the internals because only the top is covered.

I recommend adding an SSD. You can get one for about $40 on amazon

Install your windows on the SSD it will be much faster than a hard drive.

u/raunchyfartbomb · 1 pointr/buildapc

The best part about upgrading your PC is incremental upgrades.
You can always keep the upgrade you purchase now and use it in a new build later on.

As far as budget goes:
You could also look into some other methods of paying for the upgrade. Though I saved up enough to purchase an RTX2070, I still didn't purchase it outright. I am leveraging Paypal Credit, and set up a payment plan through my bank's Bill-Pay to pay $41 out of every paycheck for 6 months until its payed off (and since It'll be paid off prior to the 6 month date, interest free to boot).

Some may recommend against this, but I think its a great option if you have a steady income and you can budget it out. Personally, I won't notice that $80/month, but thats just my scenario.

---------------------------------------------------------------
The best upgrade for you would be a GPU and/or an SSD. Once you install you OS on an SSD you will be amazed at how much faster it is. SSDs are pretty cheap lately, so this will be the biggest performance boom. Sizes I typically go by are 120GB for the OS $23, 240GB or more for your most played games: $35+

As for a GPU, keeping it under $200 I would recommend the RX-570. It costs about the same as the 1050TI for a huge perfomance increase over it, and relatively close to the gtx1060 while much cheaper. Plus, there are currently some $150 models on Newegg that would allow you to get a good GPU upgrade and the SSD within your budget.

.EDIT: written assuming you were going to purchase new. Purchasing Used/Open box isn't bad, just watch out for 'too good to be true' deals, and try to make it so if it doesn't work you are covered.

Laptops, phones, tablets, etc.

Technology not even a few years old are commonly available on the cheap as people like to “upgrade” to the latest models. Gumtree and the likes are good sources, if you’re willing to go down that path. Otherwise, ask friends and family: you may be surprised what perfectly good tech they have lying around just gathering dust, which they might even be willing to part with for the low price of “free”.

In the case of laptops: if you swap out the HDD for an SSD (decent models such as this Sandisk can be bought for under $30), and reinstall a fresh copy of Windows (or any Linux distro, if you’re into that), you’ll easily have an awesome machine that will outperform anything available brand new at the same cost.

While I can’t advise on RAM I can say I bought this SSD recently that’s decently priced.

Here you go! Just barely made it under 400! I wasn't able to get a SSD, but if you can spare the extra 30 dollars, definitely get one!

I'll give you an explanation on the parts I picked out:

CPU: Super "Futureproofed" and cheap CPU. The 2600 is flipping the CPU market on it's head. You'll be able to stream, play any game, and video render. It's phenomenal.

Mobo: I'm iffy about it, but I wanted to get you an ATX board instead of a mATX so you have more ram slots for the future. It looks like a good MOBO, but there may be better options out there. Plenty of Sata ports for a bigger SSD. It's overall a good MOBO that's cheap.

Memory: Most people will recommend dual channel. I say, stick with this pretty fast ram stick for now, and upgrade later when you can. I JUST did this and I was pretty happy with 1 ram stick.

Case: This seems to be a good bang for your buck cpu case. Will provide adequate cooling, enough space, and it's cheap! If anyone recommends any other CPU cases, feel free to switch this out.

Power Supply: 500W will be good for a while. Even if you were to upgrade later to a 1080 (which you could and this build wouldn't bottleneck it at all), it should be enough.

The storage, GPU, and Windows key are just placeholders.

Get a cheap 120Gb and get a physical 1TB or use your old drive as Drive D. Move your main user's My Document folder to DriveD, and install programs on D as well.

I'll never go back and give up 10-15-second boot times and really quick housekeeping.
