If just the period known as the Scientific Revolution in general, see these two books:
Larry Principe's intro to the Scientific Revolution is very good. He's an excellent historian of alchemy and early-modern science. Peter Dear, another historian of science, has also written a good book on the same period, although his is more focused on astronomy. See his Revolutionizing the Sciences.
