I just got this in 5tb drive It's $115 now, but it was $109 two weeks ago when I got it.

u/acmecorps · 7 pointsr/buildapcsales

Bought them for $109 on amazon during BF, and shuck them. AMA

edit: mine was this one, so I'm not sure if it's the same one guys. Sorry about that :/

u/Saiz08 · 6 pointsr/DataHoarder

No, I wouldn't risk it. This is likely a drive that has been taken out of an enclosure, which means you may have to work with the seller on replacements. These 5TB drives can be found new in cases for around $120-130. I have 6 of these in my array, I broke them out of enclosures my self.

People have asked the same question in the past as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/comments/3200rl/buyer_beware_cheap_5tb_seagate_barracuda/

u/pastramiswissrye is totally right in that lights, sound, lenses, and media are all more important than the best camera.

My personal favorite camera in that price range is the Panasonic G7 and a good 12-35 lens. The G7 is like the little brother to the GH4 as it does 4k and just is missing some of the more pro features and is $600 for the camera. The lens is another $600 but you could just use the kit lens and upgrade your lens later.

Continuing with what Pastrami said, you should have good audio, lights, and media storage, in addition to the camera and lens. For audio, the rode videomic pro is a good all-around shotgun mic that you can put on a boom pole for good short film on location sound, however you will need someone to help hold your boom pole.

For lights, a good reflector will help you use the sun as a light when shooting outside on location for a short film. If you are in a studio, this four socket CFL light kit will go a long way to help. I personally use one of them and they are great for the price. Just pop in four cfl bulbs and you are good to go. If you would prefer LED lights which are smaller and don't heat up as much, but are pricer, you can get this LED studio light kit.

On the media storage side of things, you are going to want to pick up a few of these 64GB U3 SD cards for use with your G7 or any other new camera you get. Especially if you plan on shooting in 4K.

If you are going to shoot in 4K, your file sizes are going to go way up and you are definitely going to need to get more hard drive space on your computer. You may even have to upgrade your computer to handle 4K video editing. It all depends on what you have and what you want to do.

On the editing side, I personally use Final Cut Pro X on my Mac. It is $300 but a great piece of editing software, used by pros. If you are on a mac but don't want to spend money, just use iMovie, it will probably do what you need it to do unless you edit in 4K. On the windows side, some people use sony vegas, some people use AVID, some people use premiere pro, there is a bunch of them out there and you kind of just have to choose one. (I have never used any of them)

Like he said, there is no canon r6i. I assume you mean T6i, but you still need to do some more research. I hope this helps!

here's one for $130 on amazon, I got a deal on mine though a few months back.

It has to be USB 3.0. Seagate has a few good ones, that are fairly affordable. I have a 5tb one: Seagate Expansion 5TB Desktop External Hard Drive USB 3.0 (STEB5000100) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TKFEEBW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nXDIybHTGKR9J

u/JewBacca420 · 3 pointsr/torrents

Well there is 4,339 movies that are in 1080p which are the ones I want. On average a movie is about 1.8GB. That totals to about 7.8TB. I have two of these 5TB external hard drives. They're plugged into a computer I use as a Plex server which streams to my Roku.

Amazon currently has the 5tb Seagate Expansion for only a few dollars more. You can always take it out of the enclosure if you don't care about the warranty.

I'm not the guy you're responding to, but at $99, here's Amazon's cheapest 3 Tb external:

http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expansion-Desktop-External-STEB3000100/dp/B00TKFEEJ4/

Although if I were you I'd pony up the extra $18 and go for this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Book-Desktop-External-Drive-WDBFJK0040HBK-NESN/dp/B00E3RH61W/

Not only do I have more confidence in WD over Seagate, you also get an extra 1 Tb for that $18. Then again, if you don't care about brand, you can get 4 Tb for only $10 more:

http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expansion-Desktop-External-STEB4000100/dp/B00TKFEE8K

Or you could go nuts and get 5 Tb for $129:

u/FallenTF · 2 pointsr/letsplay

A similar drive was $90 yesterday, I wouldn't really call that a deal for $110.

The same 5TB version of my link above is $110.

the difference is nothing, its just a brand name the drives are the same. The backup drives usually come with a backup program on the drive which can just be deleted but there is no difference with the drives. I recently bought a 5TB Seagate Expansion Drive and its working great.

A recovery drive doesn't have anything to do with imaging your system. It's to create a bootable recovery environment to troubleshoot various problems such as an unbootable system.

Why are you backing up to flash drives? They're usually pretty limited in available space. You can pick up a 5 terabyte (5000 megabytes) external drive for around $100:

SMR is the shingled archival drives, right?

I have a 5TB Seagate and it's write performance is good (35 MB/s). It' s on sale for Cyber Monday too for about $100 USD so 2 cents a gig which seems pretty average.

u/1e7643-8rh34 · 2 pointsr/xboxone

I don't buy a lot. But I game share with a friend and keep almost everything we buy installed. It's nice to have access to everything we buy (especially with EA Access). 3.5TB free and shrinking. If you don't plan on game sharing, you'll likely be fine with 500GB since it wasn't an issue for you on the PS4. If you plan on game sharing, get something like this. I got it last June and have been happy with it. I think having all games on an external with all apps on the internal improves performance. Not sure about that though.

It's not solid state but it would be better, but way to expensive still. It's a Seagate which I hear isn't the best, but it's been perfect for me so far and it's been a year since I got it.

u/ChunkyThePotato · 2 pointsr/halo

Buy one of these and you won't have to worry about storage for many years. If you don't have the money for one, you could always get quite a bit of extra storage for much cheaper too. You can get a 1TB hard drive for $50.

u/candre23 · 1 pointr/homelab

Unless you get really lucky with an ebay auction, you're not going to find a complete solution (case + controller) for 8+ drives under $100.

You're looking at spending at least double that to utilize those 10 500GB drives. Drives which are old, with who-knows-how-much wear and tear on them already. Meanwhile, for $130, you can get a brand new 5TB USB3.0 external drive with a warranty and everything.

u/Kakashi09ize · 1 pointr/mac

I got the same problem as you, I have two laptops (Macbook Air 2015 and MSI Laptop) and I got a Seagate Expansion Desktop Hard Drive and wanted to use my hard drive for both windows and OS X at first I kept reformatting it to what os i was using, then went to SeaGate website and download their NTFS for Mac software and now able to read & write for both mac and windows without formatting anything!

I'm using a 5TB Seagate Expansion disk (http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expansion-Desktop-External-STEB5000100/dp/B00TKFEEBW/ref=dp_ob_title_ce). The drive has a USB3.0 controller built in so you can't shuck it and make it into an internal. I've had mine since Feb 2015 w/o issues. The drive is mounted on rubber supports within the case.

How much is this in Canada

Seagate Expansion 5TB Desktop External Hard Drive USB 3.0 (STEB5000100) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TKFEEBW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_O186ybRW7GQTV

u/Heretic04 · 1 pointr/xboxone

I just bought this hard drive:

https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expansion-Desktop-External-STEB5000100/dp/B00TKFEEBW/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1493500222&sr=1-6&keywords=external+hard+drive

I normally buy WD stuff but for the same price, this hard drive is 5TB vs 4TB for the WD drive.

Also, keep in mind that formatted space is different than advertised space. Hard drive formatting takes about 10% of the hard drive's space so my 5TB hard drive had 4.5TB of usable space. That WD 4TB would have about 3.6TB of usable space.

And I think you should get as much space as you can afford. I don't even buy many games and my 1TB hard drive filled up with just the free games from Gold.

u/G-H-O-S-T · 1 pointr/PS4

didn't find a chance so before i forget. i got external hd issues/queries.
i have an old 2tb my book that didn't work on my ps4 for some reason and it has usb3. i tried almost everything suggested (plug quickly, reallocate, format, exfat) but it fails in the last step to activate as external storage.
anyway, anyone got a my book working? at least one that came in a green box? (because new ones come in blue).
also, in case of no hope, what are some good compatible hdds of 3tb? other than this.

u/empw · 1 pointr/xboxone

So if I bought this I could just plug it in to my Xbox One, load my games on it and play directly off the drive?

u/CageAndBale · 1 pointr/GearsOfWar

I've had it for years without fail. It's best to pony up the extra cash because 1 tb is about 80 bucks anyways. So worth the peace if mind.

u/mtn9 · 1 pointr/techsupport

Interesting solution, I hadn't thought about that. But it would only be cheaper for the first 4 months unfortunately:

"Starting at $0.007 per gigabyte per month"

So for 20 TB, that would be 20,000 GB, which would cost $140 per month. A 5 TB external hard drive from Amazon is $130. 4 of them would cost $520 total. Four months of Amazon Glacier would cost $560, so using Glacier longer than 4 months would be more expensive than just buying the external drives from Amazon. Appreciate the suggestion though.

u/JBrace1990 · 1 pointr/xboxone

Go with this one intead. It's a 5TB external, also from Seagate. I've never had any issues with it (I did with a WD MyBook), and it seems to be even faster than the original HD sometimes.

u/Squishy_Vengence · 1 pointr/gaming

Figuring 6.6 average and roughly 1,000 games. That's 6.4 terabytes. You can buy two of These for $224 total. Okay so I was wrong about thumb drive, but honestly why not spend $224 and a tiny amount of space VS take up an entire room with a small semi-useless fortune?

Wow, their pricing is pathetic, I always Thought cloud storage was a bad Idea but this is basically a Scam.

30 seconds of googling and I've found a 5 TB external hardrive on amazon for 120$

Amazons cloud pricing is
>"can choose either 100 GB for $11.99 per year, or 1 TB for $59.99, with up to 30 TB available for an additional $59.99 per TB.

So if you want to store data you can rent 2TB of cloud access for 119.98$ or Buy 6 TB of Harddrive for 120

So in one year

  • Amazon cloud $ per TB 60$

  • External harddrive $ per TB 20$

But It gets WORSE I happen to own a couple of seagate products, (although not external drives to be honest) and frankly I'd be prepared to skin my leg with a rusty spoon if a external harddrive of theirs died after a single year of use. Frankly I would suspect a 6 to 8 year lifespan (if treated kindly) for normal usage, but lets be fair and estimate that this harddrive would last 4 years

Data Storage cost over 4 years

  • Amazon cloud $ per TB 240$

  • External harddrive $ per TB 20$

I really just don't understand this - how do they expect to make any money, and don't say remote access, I'm sure that could be accomplished with team-viewer(a free program for non commercial users).

Correct me if I'm wrong but this looks like a scam exclusively targeted at the elderly/tech challenged.
