Thule and a couple other companies make custom and/or semi-custom-fit clip-on roof racks for most cars. They're kind of expensive but are popular with the kayak/biking crowd who use them enough to justify it.

There are also more generic strap-on racks like this one. I have one like that, it works fine, but the straps coming in through the tops of the doors let in a fair amount of road noise and I'd be hesitant to go on the highway because as much as I yank/pull/ratchet the straps down, I can still pretty easily yank the bars side to side. But it's fine for trips to the hardware store and around town.
No idea about the legality of what's in your video, but it made me veeeeery nervous.
