Just for purchasing sake. This is not "the" cocktail time which is model SARB065. This is a close presage version model SRPB43. You can see the price differences as well as the difference in the faces.

u/PetruZx · 32 pointsr/Watches

This is the watch that I got when I took "studenten" (A swedish word for graduating from the gymnasium). I've never before owned a proper watch and I was looking for a dress watch. When I first saw the Seiko on Amazon, I was put off by the picture as it seemed like it had a matte finish (similar to the snk809 and it's variants) and a very blue tint on the face of the watch. But watching customer images and videos had me chocked at how beautiful the watch and especially the face is. What I was concerned about was the thickness. Because I had never owned a proper watch before, I was unsure how a 13mm thick watch would look on my small wrist. But to my surprise, it's perfect.

I'm in love with my Seiko and I couldn't be happier with the watch.

u/phaedrus_kc · 20 pointsr/Watches

Allow me to propose Seiko's Cocktail Time!

More watch for less money, and I prefer the dial... a bit less stuffy.

u/Riceballer69 · 13 pointsr/Watchexchange

Just FYI, this watch sells brand new for $377 on Amazon with free shipping, buyer protection, and customer service for returns. There's another like new cocktail time going for $300 with shipping. You're asking plus 350, plus pp 3% and shipping? And also missing a verification pic.

u/GiantTortoise · 9 pointsr/Watchexchange

FYI it's only $367 from Amazon, brand new: http://amzn.com/B0038OLUMM

Five top value watches

This is my opinionated list of the five best value watches on the market, based on personal experience. I own all five, so I do have first hand experience of them. These watches cover a wide range of styles and there are no homages amongst them.

From left to right these are:

  • Timex Expedition Military Field
  • Seiko Black Monster
  • Magrette Moana Pacific Chronograph PVD
  • Seiko Cocktail Time
  • Hamilton Intra-Matic

The Timex Expedition is a no-brainer at $45. It has fresh clean styling, lovely skeletonized hands and a really nice cut-away detail for the hour markers in the chapter ring. The Indiglo back light and 10 year battery life are just icing on the cake. Yes, it's a quartz movement and has a mineral crystal but it's unbeatable at the price. I wear this watch regularly despite owning watches that cost vastly more. Good review over at Worn & Wound.

The Seiko Black Monster the undisputed top dog in value-for-money mechanical watches and a gateway drug for many. It simply has it all: fantastic build quality, excellent bracelet, best-in-industry lume and a lovely face. This is quite simply the most pleasant to read watch I own. That it's also one of the cheapest is amazing. The only real downside is that it has a Hardlex crystal rather than sapphire but in practice this isn't a problem as the bezel stands proud of it, protecting it nicely. $205 from Amazon.

The Magrette Moana Pacific Chronograph PVD is a much lesser known piece from the boutique New Zealand brand. This is one of those watches that is just impossible to capture in photos due to its jet black, but very glossy, PVD finish. In the flesh it looks like something that costs 10x more. The movement is a hand-wound Chinese Seagull item, but users generally report that it is reliable, and it looks great through the display back. It sports 500m water resistance, sapphire crystal and comes with a rubber strap also. $500 direct from Magrette.

The Seiko Cocktail Time is easily the best value dress watch that I know of. It's stunning looking in the flesh mostly thanks to the way that the sunburst face and chisel hands reflect the light. The blued second hand is a lovely touch also. I have it here on a Hirsch leather strap but the one it comes with suits it nicely too. Bizarrely, many online retailers use a shot of this watch that completely fails to capture its characteristics e.g. compare this review with the product page on Amazon. $440 from Amazon.

Finally, the Hamilton Intra-Matic. This is really a first-rate re-issue from Hamilton. It's a gorgeous slender piece (10mm), with really refined detailing. It's subtle and understated, but has a nice ETA 2892-2 movement, sapphire crystal and a very nice pebbled leather strap that suits the aesthetic beautifully. It dresses up or down quite comfortably. Check out the Worn & Wound review. The stainless steel silver-faced one in 38mm size is definitely the one to go for IMHO. ~$600 from Amazon

EDIT: Fixed Magrette model name, thanks /u/KORNSTAR
u/Qumbo · 7 pointsr/Watchexchange

Don't you think your price is a bit high? I could give you $320 + w/e shipping costs for a watch you've owned for two years (not commenting on condition), or I could buy it on Amazon for $377 (only an 18% premium) which includes free two-day shipping (for Prime members, free standard shipping otherwise) and is fulfilled by Amazon. I don't know what your shipping conditions are, but assuming FOB NYC I would be exposed to the loss if it gets damaged during delivery, or, assuming FOB my location I would still have to deal with you for returning it and potentially have to pay return shipping (again dependent on the terms of the sale).

Seiko SARB0065 "Cocktail Time" is a beautiful watch under $400.

My recommendation - Cocktail Time

Edit: Oh my - you said 5000, not 500. My advice would be not to spend 5k on a watch until you have done SIGNIFICANT research.

u/kroopster · 5 pointsr/Watches

Gotta agree with the other comments in here, the argument could be made for basically anything in life.

Anyhow I still try: How'bout spending that 400 into something you can liquidate easily later on? I'm not talking about profit, but it might make the purchasing easier if you know that you can sell it later for even $300? And if you really like it a lot, then you'll be just happy forever.

In that case the Junkers you linked might not be the easiest watch to sell, the automatic version could move faster but it's quite a lot more expensive. Just as an example, there are watches like Seiko Cocktail time which are in your price point and would be really easy to resell.

edits: ~200 typos.

u/tnrjong · 4 pointsr/Watches

just outside your range (and these are terrible pictures, google it for better), but the Seiko SARB065 is a really nice, but clean and simple, watch.

a better photo

u/MrBanditOne · 4 pointsr/Watches

I'd suggest the Seiko Cocktail Time or a FC as mentioned above.

u/RandomLatte · 3 pointsr/Watches

> cktail?
> I've been looking and the cheapest is on ebay for 370 but hesitant cuz ebay but from a grey dealer from Japan. Long island just restock and up their prices and it's pretty high 430? Or something.

On amazon it's 410 but the price jumps around. I bought it from amazon for 353 shipped in summer 2015.

https://camelcamelcamel.com/MECHANICAL-Shinobu-Ishigaki-SARB065-Warranty/product/B0038OLUMM

u/bscepter · 3 pointsr/Watches

I've been eyeing this guy for a couple of years now. It almost seemed too good to be true for the price, but now that it's on my wrist, I can see why this has become a cult watch of sorts.

Fit and finish are excellent. The rotor is finished with Geneva waves, which is a nice touch on an otherwise undecorated movement. And the face is just gorgeous. It’s not as blue as it looks in the Amazon listing, but it does have a hint of blue, depending on the light. It comes with a patent-leather strap on a deployant clasp, which is a classy touch.

The only issue I have is its size. Up until now, my largest watch has been my 16610 Submariner, which is a 40mm watch, including its bezel. This is a 40mm watch with a larger face than the sub, so it just seems huge to me. Plus, my dressier watches (Datejust, Vulcain, Omega) are vintage, so they’re smaller (36mm, 35mm and 34mm), which makes this seem quite large. I’m sure I’ll get used to it though.

In any case (pun not intended), it’s a heck of a lot of watch for the price.

u/SirLaxer · 3 pointsr/Watches

Exactly. A watch is like a pair of shoes: you wouldn't wear penny loafers when going out for a run, and you wouldn't wear sneakers at a funeral. There are a ton of different kinds of watches (like the Rolex Submariner compared to an Omega Speedster...different functions for different types of people and different activities), and within those categories there are different stylistic choices that are based on personal tastes (modern and sleek, big and bulky, etc).

I could recommend something like the Hamilton Khaki Field, or something like a Seiko diver, or a Citizen Eco-Drive chronograph, or the popular Seiko SARB065. Very different watches for different types of people and different occasions.

u/vese · 3 pointsr/Watches

It doesn't look good in the pictures on the website, same as a lot of watches... eg the cocktail time http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-MECHANICAL-Shinobu-Ishigaki-SARB065/dp/B0038OLUMM

Looks way better in person.

u/Desmocratic · 3 pointsr/Watches

Well, I have always thought the 'Cocktail Time' Seiko is pretty dressy for under $1K, The top review on Amazon "THE best dress watch you will find under $1,000", need I say more ;)

u/Aype · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

With your budget, the three best options (in my opinion) would be a [Tissot Visodate,] (http://www.amazon.com/Tissot-TIST0194301603101-Heritage-Stainless-Automatic/dp/B0041Q44T2) a Seiko Cocktail Time, or an Orient Bambino. These are the best sub $500 dress watches you can get. Check out /r/watches simple questions thread if you have any more questions

u/ernieb595 · 3 pointsr/Watches

With that kind of budget you've got a lot of options!

Some qualifying questions, though for more specific recommendations: Automatic, Mechanical, or Quartz (or do you care)? General dress (suit, business casual, etc..)? Wrist size?

Some off the cuff ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) suggestions:

Tissot Visodate

Orient Bambino

Junkers Bauhaus

Seiko Cocktail Time This one is flashier than it sounds like you want but Jesus Christ is it beautiful..

SARB035

Just to name a few!

Recommendation Request : "thank you" gift for a friend. He geeks out on mechanical watches on a deep technical level, but he he can't quite spare the cash to treat himself right now. He just did me a big favor and I want to show my appreciation.

Price: $200, maybe stretch to $250 for a perfect match.

Features: The only nonnegotiables would be selfwinding automatic, and a see-through caseback.

Style: simple, classic, elegant. Style references at higher price points would include :

  • Hamilton Pioneer Auto

  • Frederique Constant Classics Automatic

  • Seiko SARB065

Browsing the Buying Guide, the Seiko 5 SNK809 is almost perfect, but the dial is too busy - more like a field watch than the classic/elegant designs I'm looking for.

Orient Symphony ticks all the boxes on paper, but if I'm going to top out my price range, I wonder if I can't find a prettier movement.

I feel like there must a be a Seiko 5 that fits the bill, but I haven't seen it, yet. I'd also be open to buying used to get him a little more for my money, but I don't really know where to start shopping secondhand in this price range. Thanks for any advice!
u/Loodba · 2 pointsr/Watches

Hey guys, looking for recommendations. I already have a couple watches in mind but I'd like to know your advice and watches suggestions. It would be my first automatic, I want to make a great gift to me for graduating my phd, so I want something approximately between 300-1000$ cad. Here are the watches I'm looking at right now:

I have a certain preference for: Orient Bambino, Seiko cocktail time and the seiko presage... If you have any watches in mind that you think I'd like, your help is appreciated! And just so you know, my wrist is around 75mm. I like moderate-big watches (for example, I have the Casio MDV-106 which is 44mm and I like it, maybe I'd like a slightly smaller watch though).

Also, I like the curved glass of the Feice.

There is a seller or two on Amazon that sells the SARB065, e.g. this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-MECHANICAL-Shinobu-Ishigaki-SARB065/dp/B0038OLUMM

A little more expensive than Seiya.

u/TommBomBadil · 2 pointsr/Watches

Seiko also sells the mechanical x Shinobu Ishigaki SARB065 which is also a beautiful design, though significantly more expensive.

u/mb323 · 2 pointsr/Watches

I would suggest looking at some of the buying guides and specifically searching for dress watches, but here are some possibilities: Seiko SARB065, Seiko SARB033, [Various Brauns] (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_9?url=search-alias%3Dwatches&field-keywords=braun+watch&sprefix=braun+wat%2Caps%2C186)

I wore a Seiko SARB065 'Cocktail Time' for my wedding, with a blue suit. I wore it on mesh, though it works well with a leather band. It's a 40mm domed dress watch. Seiko has some similar black watches in the SARB/SARX/SARY series.

This is mine, just on a random day:

Most will tell you tag is overpriced and mostly ego to say "hey it's a tag" to non watch people.

The suggestions are really good already. I'll add my .10. Aqua terra in grey, white, blue, or black. Used 2.2+ or 3.5k new grey.

I posted this in the last thread, but nobody was able to help me. Hopefully someone can this time, because my family wants gift ideas, and this would be a great one.

I'm a college student that has a limited budget ($150 or under), and has wanted to get a watch for a while now. It turns out that I'm pretty particular with what style I want, I tend to like a minimalist type of design. I wanted a leather band, and the date. I also wanted something that was kind of dressy, yet something I could wear on almost any occasion.

Anyway, I finally narrowed it down to one that I like, and two that are close. The Seiko SGEH14P1 is the one I prefer the most, followed by the Seiko SUR023P2, and the Seiko SARB065.

My question is, does anyone have any advice about these watches? Or suggestions of similar watches that you like? I don't want to be disappointed with this purchase, it will be a while until I can afford another watch. Also, where is the best place to buy, Is amazon ok? Because the amazon page seems kinda sketchy, and I don't want to buy a knock off, or something that's broken. Also it seems hard to find it anywhere else.

Thank's for all the help!

u/Ecgmcg · 2 pointsr/Watches

Hey there, first of all, thanks to everyone in this sub for getting me interested in watches and helping me understand the different types of watches. I am currently looking at a couple of automatic watches, but I am slightly confused as to which would be a better option. Please help!

On the very inexpensive end, the Orient Bambino: http://www.amazon.com/Orient-ER24004B-Bambino-Automatic-Mechanical/dp/B008VBUZDW It comes in multiple dial/case color configurations. Doesn't come on a bracelet, although there are similar Orient models that do.

Moving into the affordable range, the Tissot Visodate: http://www.amazon.com/Tissot-TIST0194301603101-Heritage-Visodate-Automatic/dp/B0041Q44T2
Again, multiple dial/case colors, but no bracelet option (I don't think).

Still affordable, Seiko Cocktail Time: http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-MECHANICAL-Shinobu-Ishigaki-SARB065/dp/B0038OLUMM
This model comes in the one style, but does come on either a bracelet or strap. There are other SARBxx models with different dial colors.

For the past few months, I've been eyeing the Seiko SARB065 Cocktail Time, but I'd always held off on buying it for one reason or another. Recently, I found out that it's been discontinued and will be replaced by a model in the Presage line, and I'm wondering whether I should finally buy it now, or wait to buy the SRPB43.

I understand that the SRPB43 will differ from the SARB065 in a few ways (4R35 movement caliber instead of the 6R15, slightly increased case diameter, decreased case height, decreased power reserve, different dial text and crown design, etc.). Since I'm mainly interested in the watch for its aesthetics (and Seiko's reputation for reliability/value), are there any major reasons why I should get one model over another?

u/philocity · 2 pointsr/Watches

At the top of that range you can get a friggin SARB065. It easily outclasses some watches 3 times its price in both looks and quality. I haven't come across a single person who doesn't love that watch. It doesn't come with a bracelet though.

Orient WZ0031DV

Orient WZ0371EL

Seiko SARB065. Looks crazy classy. Has a leather strap with a deployant. You don't really know what you want, so this way you'll still have money left over but still have an awesome watch. You'll get caught staring at the dial for no reason.

They're all leather bands, but you can swap in a bracelet for like $50-$80. If you don't want to do that, you can get this one. or this Orient.

The Jazzmaster looks amazing. The Victorinox is definitely worth the price. Look into the Seiko cocktail, people seem to love it.

Of course it's a $100 more but I am sure you can get it for a bit cheaper on eBay.

I recently bought a Christopher Ward C61, it's supposed to be dress diver watch for around $625 and you can opt out the metal bracelet for a leather one for $75 cheaper. It's only 38mm so it's an appropriate size and they also have a 42mm version of it.

Oh no, you invoked Seiko negatively here! Duck!

I'll leave this one here and say no more about Seiko.

It's above $300, so we'll say no more. :)

As a brother, your job is to make sure his head doesn't get too big, so one of these may help.

http://www.zazzle.com/biotechnology+watches

You may want a custom message on the dial so he knows you're not completely mocking him, but it's another route to go.

But since he's a biotech nerd, the most 'interesting' watch under $300 right now is the Swatch Sistem51. It's $150, mechanical, automatic, and assembled with a single screw.

Within your budget and as a gift for someone who can appreciate advances in micromechanics, that is the watch I would get.

Would you say that giving away one of your watches is overall a better experience? At what price range would you start selling it?

I am looking to give away my Citizen to someone special in my life later on because I am replacing it with my Seiko. I might sell if the hassle isn't too much, but I haven't any experience.

u/phukka · 1 pointr/Watches

Frederique Constant

Very simple design, very elegant. Easy to wear as a daily beater, can be used to dress up or dress down. Quartz movement, which may be a downside to you. Moderate price range.

Orient Sun and Moon v3

Probably my favorite of the three choices I'm giving you because of the unique Sun and Moon factor. You can easily replace the leather strap with a nato to dress it down and not look tacky. Sapphire crystal allows this to be a daily beater, too.

Seiko SARB065 Cocktail Time

While not my favorite for this occasion, this is one of my grail watches. Gorgeous piece, should look far better in person than what Amazon shows (you can search this subreddit for some pictures that will blow your mind.) The color is incredibly unique and will probably get you some compliments by itself. Marginally harder to dress down with, so maybe not quite as versatile as the other two options.

These are just a few suggestions where there are literally HUNDREDS of watches that can fit your needs, from some really nice Timex pieces to stuff far more expensive. I'd advise against most divers because they're not traditionally dressy pieces. One possible exception is this Rotary Ocean Avenger, which is absolutely gorgeous in person, not as huge as most divers, but may be harder to find online, but easily found in jewelry stores. I'll probably be picking one of these up in the future (with my neat ~80% discount as a jewelry store employee), the collection is amazing, but it's still a quartz movement and overall lower quality than other options (unless you go with a Swiss Made Ocean Avenger.)

Tissot vissodate? Has dates on the dial. Will dip under $400 quite often, near 350ish

u/Valarauka_ · 1 pointr/Watches

One thing to consider is that at this price point a lot of people think a quartz movement is a waste. YMMV, of course, but that's a potential plus for the middle watch over the other two.

One more to look at in the same price range is the Seiko SARB065 "Cocktail Time" which is pretty highly regarded, looks amazing and also has a display back. Look for reviews of it, the picture on Amazon really doesn't do it justice.

Is there any reason whatsoever not to buy this watch for only $367? www.amazon.com/Seiko-MECHANICAL-Shinobu-Ishigaki-SARB065/dp/B0038OLUMM/

I realize it's not exactly the same, but the textured dial of the Seiko Cocktail time has a great textured dial and comes in well under the lower end of your budget.

Only one left in stock on Amazon! Mine arrived with a delay but finally made it. Take the plunge, sir.

Maybe a SARB065 (dealer: Seiya Japan / Amazon)

My suggestion would be the Seiko SARB065

Maybe you could get it used or something?

Maybe this Tissot Visodate

or this Seiko SARB Cocktail Time?

You could also probably find a Vintage Omega Deville if youre willing to spend a little more

This is a legit place to buy it, would you agree?

Currently my worry is about the thickness of the watch. I have very thin wrists, but my current DW fits my wrist very nicely in terms of width, and i know DW watches are insanely thin. Worried that i might spend a lot of money on a watch that doesn't suit me.

You don't see many of those around here because people here don't generally like open-heart or skeleton watches because the lower end ones are either bad movements and not really showing off anything remarkable or they just don't look good in most people's opinions.

If you were going to get an automatic I would suggest brands like Tissot, Hamilton, and Orient. Not saying Bulova is a bad brand, they do make good watches but the ones i listed may be some others to look around at so you can find something you might truly love.

I also found this Seiko so maybe this wildcard will be something you'll like! Hopefully that helps! :)

I have $300 to spend on a watch, and I am getting absolutely lost in everything. I currently don't have a watch, I've just started in the corporate world (recent college grad), and am looking for something that I can look professional in, without looking gaudy. All I know is that I like simple and clean (design, not the song), so not really a bunch of complications (though a date complication is definitely a plus), and I'm a 5'9 average build guy.

I mostly wear business casual to work--black shoes, a colored button down of sorts, and slacks. Almost all dark colors.

I've googled around, and here are designs I like:

Emporio Armani Classic Chronograph

Seiko Cocktail Time

Emporio Armani AR2457

I'm conflicted for a few reasons. The easy answer is to get the cocktail and move on with my life--I know it has the best construction, and it's absolutely gorgeous.

However, due to weird religious conflicts, I'm not sure I can buy an automatic watch. I couldn't wear it on Saturdays, when I tend to be at my dressiest, so I was wondering if there were alternatives y'all could recommend!

In terms of the Armanis--I'm aware they're fashion watches, I'm aware they're often made by Fossil and what not, which means decent construction (but not what you're paying for), I used them as an example of appearances that I like.

So! Any thoughts?! =D Thanks in advance to all you kind folks!

obviously there's going to be a lot of personal preference involved in something like this, so at the end of the day you need to buy what you love (especially on something like a watch that doesn't serve a whole lot of practical purpose beyond looking cool).

Personally, I find the design of MVMT to look really cheap, so maybe I'm not the best person to ask for advice if that's the aesthetic you're looking for.

That said, some of my favorite less expensive watches are the Seiko Samurai and the Citizen Nighthawk on the sporty side, with the Tissot Visodate and Seiko Cocktail Time as more dressy options.
