Sennheiser HD579 over ear - $99.95

HD579 on sale for $100, otherwise I would go for the HD6XX if you can wait 3 months

u/QuipA · 3 pointsr/headphones

You want planars, you gotta pay for planars :)

The only other planar alternative is the Fostex T50RP mkIII which is insufferable without being modded and that will quickly drive the cost to $250+ as well.

If dynamic is an option now: HD579

My philosophy is to find the best price-to-performance ratio.

$20 and under: Monoprice 8283 DJ Headphones (closed-back, about the cheapest I would recommend)

$50 and under: Superlux HD 681 EVO (semi-open back, great value, a sweet spot for budget headphones)

$75 and under: Audio-Technica ATH-AD500X (excellent soundstage)

$100 and under: Sennheiser HD 559 (classic laid-back Sennheiser sound, good soundstage, great all-rounder)

$125 and under: [Sennheiser HD 579] (https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-579-Open-Headphone-x/dp/B01L1IIF1K) (slightly improved 559, you may not notice a difference)

$150 and under: [Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee] (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-sennheiser-hd-58x-jubilee-headphones) (excellent all-rounder, a noticeable upgrade from the 559/579, another sweet spot for price-performance ratio)

$175 and under: [HIFIMAN HE4XX] (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-hifiman-he4xx-planar-magnetic-headphones) (planar magnetics - a much different sound signature with more bass impact)

$200 and under: [Sennheiser HD 6XX] (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx) (pretty much the best 99% of people will ever hear or want or need)

After the HD 6XX, you really start to experience diminishing returns IMO. In my experience, all the pairs I listed are very comfortable, especially the midrange Sennheisers.

Hey mate, thank you for the quick reply, Final follow up just to make sure everything is in order

The Audio interface you suggested would be This One Correct?

Along with This and This Would be the perfect combinition and everything would work well correct?

I will take into consideration your suggestion on Pop filter, as im pretty clueless as to what a good pop filter is lol

$110 CAD on Amazon.ca. Thinking of pulling the trigger for my friend. Is it worth it over the $110 CAD HD598? Those didn't go on sale this year unfortunately.

u/whineysilver4838 · 2 pointsr/headphones

Im considering buying the Sennheiser HD 579 with the open back (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01L1IIF1K?pldnSite=1) or the ATH M40X (https://www.amazon.ca/Audio-Technica-AUD-ATHM40X-Professional-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR54). my price range is about 110-130 CAD, and im looking for a headphone that can output a good soundstage, good bass and decent mids and highs. My source would be a iphone or mac. Probably wont use them in public all that much, just at libraries and sports games. Preffered music is hip-hop and edm/electronic, and some jazz lately

first time to this sub, hope thats enough info!

u/seputaes_r · 2 pointsr/Twitch

Are you looking specifically for gaming headphones? Normally those will include features like surround sound, etc. Or are you looking for something more generic that produces great sound everywhere (but not necessarily the best for gaming)? (Personally I feel these features are a bit of a gimmick and overall sound quality is much more desirable)

If the later, in that price range I'm a huge fan of Sennheiser's HD line, specifically the HD 559 or HD579. Both of these are open-back, so they're not sound isolating at all and produce a very crisp airy sound. The entire line is insanely comfortable and great for wearing for extended periods. I use a pair at work for 7+ hours, and then come home and use them again for another 4+ hours every day.

They do also offer a "gaming" headset w/ mic with surround sound but the same comfort style: PC 373D. I've used this in the past and can highly recommend it, but it's a bit out of your price range, but something to keep in mind. The 559 and 579 will basically give you the same sound quality but without the mic/surround.

u/Basher5155 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I'm at work anyway so time flies here. :P

Do you need a mic with the headset? If so, we might go back to gaming-based headsets because they have one built-in.

One gaming headset that's 'pretty good' and has all the features with mics and all is the Hyper X Cloud.
https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-PS4/dp/B00SAYCVTQ/

Going back to Audiophile headphones, a step-down from what I purchased:
https://www.amazon.com/Technica-AUD-ATHAD500X-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B009S333U4

That's an open-back headphone again, suitable for FPS games which you play too. You'll love playing Battlefield with it as well, hearing those gunshots whiz by. Big downside for open-back headphone is the bass is not that good.

Close-backed ones are, the opposite. One good headphone is :
https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M40x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR54
You're going to love the bass on this one, especially on intense gaming moments.

Another choice is: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L1IIF1K/ref=psdc_172541_t1_B01L1IIEKM

Overall, there's a lot of headphones out there that might suit your needs. Those ones encloses your ears so they're pretty big. So feel free to research about these audiophile headphones that will work for you.

You should get these

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

> A DAC/AMP recommendation would also be greatly appreciated, if it requires to fully utilize the headphones that you may recommend.

If you are hooking up directly to your desktop you won't need a DAC. For most headphones you won't need a amplifier either, especially in the <$150 range.

> I want to get myself some audiophile studio grade headphones and I have a budget of anywhere from $0-150

If you are recording anything with a mic while wearing headphones get the Beyerdynamic DT770 80 ohm. M50s are way too bass heavy and will make any mix come out sounding lean on other headphones (except perhaps Beats by Dre or Skullcandy). The DT770 is slightly V-shaped in sound, meaning the bass and treble are slightly accentuated over the mid-range, but this is pretty standard for a closed back headphone.

If you won't be recording anything through a mic while using these headphones get the Sennheiser HD579 or Sennheiser HD598. Either of these will be neutral with great comfort and detail.

The best mixing will always be done using studio monitors (typically 2 powered studio monitors) first, then tested with a nice pair of headphones, and finally a pair of Apple earbuds (if your mix sounds nice on those then they will sound fine on anything). I personally have a pair of JBL LSR305 and would highly recommend them for music listening, but would recommend the Yamaha HS5 for mixing since they are more neutral. If you decide to invest in a pair of studio monitors in the future you will need to hook them up to an audio interface, otherwise they will hiss at you. I use a Scarlett 2i2, but if you aren't using the XLR inputs for instruments/mic then any audio interface will do.

Budget - $150

Source - Macbook Pro and iPod Classic 7th gen mostly playing music purchased from the iTunes store.
Requirements for Isolation - Little, these will mostly be used for listening at home.

Will you be using these Headphones in Public? No.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Full sized

Preferred tonal balance - I'm not quite sure, but I think I would like a balanced pair the best

Past headphones - ATH-M20x. I like the sound, but rock tracks sound muddy.

Preferred Music - Pretty much everything except for country, bluegrass, and metal.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - More soundstage and clarity. Maybe a little more bass.

I'm currently looking at HD 579 and an open box HD 598 SR I found on ebay for $150

Hello!

I have a 2017 macbook, that will be hooked up to a monitor with 3.5 mm minijack output (its a hub), i have a PS4 that just has USB, and i have a Windows computer.

I'd like all of these to be connected to 1 headphone,1 pair of speakers and 1 microphone

I know I need a mixer, but not much more then that.

What mixer do you recommend? and what cables would i need for this to work? my budget is very open. i guess something in the $100-200 range, But possible for more if thats to hard to work with

Had my eye on this mixer: https://www.alesis.com/products/view/multimix-4-usb-fx

Thanks! :)

> Sennheiser HD 579

Yup, Amazon.

u/Bluestank · 1 pointr/gadgets

Most of the benefit from in-ear monitors is from sound isolation and the inside canal portion. If you don't have something going in the canal, you may as well get something that has larger drivers that rests outside the ear.

I have glasses, so anything I recommend has worked very well with me.

The KOSS Porta-Pro are highly regarded on-ear headphones, that have very light clamping pressure, and only rest on the ear (not around) so the glasses should be less of an issue. They sound very good and often drop very cheap.

The Sennheiser HD558's are one of my favorite and most comfortable pair of over-ear headphones, and the newer 579's are near your price point. Downside is they are open backed, so don't expect to use them in quiet places in public without bothering everyone around you.

u/crazy_legs · 1 pointr/audioengineering

I need a new pair of headphones that will mainly be used for mixing and sometimes monitoring while my band practices/records. I'm looking specifically at open-backed since they will be mainly used for mixing and none of the gear is mic'd anyway.

I've narrowed it down to two options but am very open to suggestions. I'd like to keep the price tag under $200 (not counting shipping costs).

Sennheiser HD 579

Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO (Unsure what Ohm to get?)

More Details

Our current setup is a bit different than how a normal band practices and records due to space issues and having to keep it quiet (most of the time). We use a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 and all go directly into it.

The drummer is on an Alesis Forge electronic kit, the midi out goes to the interface, into Reaper with Addictive Drums running for some better sounding samples.

The guitarist uses an Fractal AX8 and uses the XLR out into the interface. And I (bass) use a SansAmp DI.

We all monitor ourselves and each other using headphones, ATH-M30x's. Two of us using the headphone outs on the front and one of us using the monitor out in back. Vocals are practiced occasionally (when we can be loud and play through our amps) and recorded after all the instrumentals are done.

I've been waiting for HD 598s to drop in price again but all they've done is go up sadly.

Since the HD 579s are currently $100 on Amazon I'm strongly considering those instead, however I'd like to know if you guys think the DT 990 Pros are worth the extra $40 sound and comfort wise?

I'll most likely be getting an E10K along with them as well.

Edit: I'll be using them for gaming, hip hop, edm and YouTube mostly.

u/LeopardTurret · 1 pointr/headphones

Budget - $100-$200

Source - FiiO E10K plugged into PC

Requirements for Isolation - Not much. Sometimes my GPU fan can get loud when playing games, but overall quiet environment. Home use only.

Preferred Type of Headphone - fullsized over-ear

Preferred tonal balance - I don't think I consider myself a bass-head, but I do enjoy a little bass rather than a completely flat response. I've also been curious in trying open-back headphones as I hear they have a fantastic soundstage that works well with gaming but I've heard some can lack bass. How does electronic/progressive house music sound in a decent pair of open-backs?

Past headphones - Hyper X Cloud II's. I love how light and comfortable they are but I do want an upgrade in sound quality.

Preferred Music - Electronic, ambient, progressive house. Stuff like This and This

The only other headphones I've had in the past are gaming headsets/cheap ear-buds. My current headphones I'm using are the Hyper X Cloud II's (without the microphone; I'm using a desktop mic) plugged into a FiiO E10k USB Amp/DAC.

I was looking at the Sennheiser HD 579 onsale for $99 @ Amazon but after reading on Sennheiser open-backs, I'm worried they won't have quite enough bass for me to enjoy the type of music I listen to.

I listen to a lot of electronic, progressive house, ambient music, through Spotify Premium @ 320kbps and play a lot of first-person shooters on PC. I hear open-back have very good directional sound, so that'd be good for shooters. Comfort is also VERY important. I can keep the Cloud II's on all day and forget they're there. I don't want to give up comfort.

Tl;dr, looking for a high quality pair of headphones (possibly open-back with a little bass), with good comfort, good for gaming, and electronic music.

Many thanks, in advance!
