A possible solution would be to attach a headband pad to make the headphone "smaller". Smaller in the sense that you'll need to use a bigger adjustment for the headphone to fit (e.g., without the headband I used 4 clicks of adjustment on each side. With the headband I now need to use 10 clicks). In terms of style, it looks kind of goofy on my head now since the headband looks really elevated.

I did a really ghetto attachment, but it works for me: http://imgur.com/a/pV2nE

There are posts about people sticking the pad on with velcro if my rubber band fix isn't your cup of tea:

The headband is a HD600 headband:

Only after I ordered that one did I find a much cheaper generic version that probably works just as well:

I can't comment on the difference between velour and the FocusPads, but I can say that I love the FocusPad-A's. I honestly didn't like the he-400s when I first got them. I was really close to sending them back. I then got the FocusPad's and they made a world of difference in both the sound and the comfort. I love the he-400's now.

Also, I got the headband from amazon. I'm pretty happy with it. You could also take it one more step and do something like this which the description can be found here.

Either get a Beyer-style wrap-around headband or a BGS headband pad depending on the thickness of your headband, or stick a Senn 600 or 650 headband pad to the bottom of your headphones.

I recommend you get some HD600 or HD650 headband pads and stick them to the headband if you want to increase comfort there too.

I owned some M50x for about 2 years, and only after about 1.5 years an unbearable hot spot appeared on my head when I wore them. This pad fixed it. It's like $15 or something on Amazon.

I have a pair of HD558 and I bought this one that is made for the HD580 & 600.

I thought I would just be able to superglue it, but its not sticking. . .

Is there a recommended glue or something that someone has used with any success?

Thanks for the reply.

I have narrowed my searches down to 3 headbands.

  1. Sennheiser Foam Headband Pad

  2. Mayflower Electronics Fostex T50RP Comfort Headband

  3. This random clip-on headband that I found since I couldn't find the beyerdynamic one you mentioned

Out of all the 3, I think I like the Mayflower one the most. It looks really comfortable.

For my HD600 I got these pads:

https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Replacement-SENNHEISER-HD650-Headphones/dp/B002B4OKYU/

https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Replacement-Headband-Cushion-Headphones/dp/B00J80IMJ4/

No idea how "original" they truly are, but they look original and they feel exactly like the originals.

It's a good idea to make sure the pads are good and comfy.

The cable on the other hand - it's just a copper wire, man.

The headband is a Sennheiser foam pad ziptied to the band and then i use a knitted cover to hide it. Its much better than stock and I don't really notice it so its something you could try if you feel the headphone is too heavy. Plus you could wash the cover because hygiene.

I just received mine and am super pleased. Fun to listen to, comfortable, amazing low end detail and range.

I came from the HE400's too. I put focus pads on it as well as a Sennheiser headband pad on it and can easily say they are my most comfortable headphones. The big pads sit around my ear and the thick pad keeps all that weight from being a non-issue. My go-to headphones for open back situations!

These pads and this pad. I got them for about $10 cheaper each. World of difference.
