I thought Colgate Total was different as it contained Triclosan. But i think other toothpastes have this too.

Big difference.. Sensodyne Repair and Protect has a bioglass compound called Novamin that actually bonds with the enamel and gives it an extra coating that fortifies teeth enamel. It is the only compound and toothpaste that actually repairs or fortified your enamel.

I know a new compound called Biomin has come out which is a superior version of Novamin, but it is only available in the UK for now.

Edit: correction: Bioglass is not the only compound that repairs your enamel. But it is the best or among the best there is. Also available over the counter so you don't need some expensive prescription toothpaste.

Novamin (a type of bioglass) was invented by a scientist and Sensodyne bought out his research, so to my knowledge Sensodyne Repair and Protect (non US version) is the only off the shelf toothpaste that has Novamin.

For some reason, the version in the US does not have Novamin. If you want to buy the Novamin version in the US, buy it from Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Sensodyne-Repair-Protect-Whitening-Toothpaste/dp/B008VPSTOA

It takes a few weeks to ship from the UK. But the price is reasonable: $6.60 and free shipping.

edit - Looks like there's been some confusion. Americans, you can buy some from NK Supplies - direct from UK on Amazon or direct-pharmacy (Item Location: Birmingham, United Kingdom) on eBay.

Scroll down on the Amazon link to find the UK vendor for $7.87 + free shipping. Also, please look into using smile.amazon.com to donate to a charity of your choice! Slightly more expensive Amazon link if you don't want to scroll down.

To use - Apply a very thin layer of the toothpaste on your toothbrush. Slightly wet with water. Brush your teeth. Using your tongue and mouth suction, push the toothpaste between each tooth for 3-5 minutes. Do not swallow the toothpaste. Spit it out as best as you can. Do not rinse out with water. Avoid eating and drinking for 30 minutes.

Here in the Netherlands they are available in supermarkets. They have advertisments on TV promoting it (so it's not seen as a medical product at all, for which it's illegal to advertise here).

I don't know if they are particularly popular, but they are somewhat well known. I've heard two people say it helped and nobody that it didn't, but that's more anecdotal evidence (after all, it's a sample of 2 and there are people who think homeopathics work so you can't even trust those 2).

Edit: this toothpaste with Novamin can be bought in the US on Amazon (just make sure to pick a seller that ships from the EU).

So is this https://www.amazon.com/Sensodyne-Repair-Protect-Whitening-Toothpaste/dp/B008VPSTOA a good buy then?

How good is this stuff? Like on a scale of my teeth have wear from a life of chewing things, but I usually brush and teeth that would make someone with trypophobia pass out where would it sit?

u/Sunsparc · 14 pointsr/explainlikeimfive

I have to order my Sensodyne from the UK for this very reason. I have weak enamel and regular Sensodyne wasn't doing anything. Someone in another reddit post mentioned you can order it from Amazon UK so I did.

It's like $6 a tube, but worth it.

EDIT: Here's the link. It's not Amazon.UK but it ships from the UK for $6.60 free shipping.

u/Fidelio · 13 pointsr/explainlikeimfive

You can order Sensodyne with Novamin on Amazon for $9.

It ships from the UK.

u/robotparker · 13 pointsr/bestof

just a heads up: the toothpaste at the other end of your Amazon link doesn't contain NovaMin, but this one does.

u/ph3l0n · 12 pointsr/Futurology

For those looking for this product: https://www.amazon.com/Sensodyne-Repair-Protect-Whitening-Toothpaste/dp/B008VPSTOA

All these comments and not one person linked the damn item.

u/alexnader · 8 pointsr/explainlikeimfive

What about this one, that says it's shipped from the UK and has the GSK NOVAMIN markings on the back ?

u/jmurphy42 · 3 pointsr/legaladvice

I also saw the post about Novamin the other day. I think you may have misinterpreted what you read there. My impression is that the FDA has no problem with Novamin being available OTC, it's just that the manufacturer has chosen to control the supply and refuse to sell it that way. That wouldn't make it illegal to buy or sell.

If it was actually illegal to buy or sell it in the US, you probably wouldn't be able to order it via Amazon. That's just one of many options on Amazon too.

For anyone interested: http://www.amazon.com/Sensodyne-Repair-Protect-Whitening-Toothpaste/dp/B008VPSTOA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

I've always asked myself the "enamel rebuilding" question. I would see sensodyne ads on TV for enamel rebuilding toothpaste, but I can never find it in the store. I always assumed it just fell under their "pronamel" line. Now this makes so much sense.

Do you have any literature on the effectiveness of Novamin? I am strongly considering switching toothpastes now.

u/xenodius · 2 pointsr/StackAdvice

You can import toothpaste with Novamin online: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008VPSTOA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

Novamin toothpaste is the first and only toothpaste to improve my hypersensitive teeth. You can blame Glaxo-Smith-Kline for keeping it from becoming OTC in the USA and instead only selling it at tremendous markup through dentists.

u/PhantomGamers · 2 pointsr/AdviceAnimals

If you live in the US I believe Sensodyne has a different formulation than what is used in other countries. It's possible whatever the active ingredient is in your prescription toothpaste is actually just what's available in the OTC version globally. You can actually get it on Amazon, maybe it'd be cheaper. https://www.amazon.com/Sensodyne-Protect-Whitening-Toothpaste-Packaging/dp/B008VPSTOA

(The key here is the Novamin so you might be able to find even cheaper brands with the same ingredient as well)

The version available in the US doesn't have Novamin, so you have to buy it from the UK.

u/EmberHands · 2 pointsr/bestof

Please please please try this I also have pretty shitty teeth but using this toothpaste from Europe has actually given me two of my only "All clear" cleanings from the dentist. All my "trouble spots" have stopped in their fucking tracks. Novamin is owned by GlaxoSmith Kline (sp?) and they only sell it to perscription drug places here in the states so it's not commercially available. My dentist approves of it, it also has fluoride in it, she's pleased with the results.

They'll ship to the US from the UK site, it's just a 5 GBP shipping fee. But the lowest price I'm seeing on the US site right now from UK sellers is close to $14 for one tube (a couple of months ago my order was more like $7 for a single tube), so you may as well order direct from the UK site at a price that's more like $12 for 2 tubes including shipping. Be sure to order with a credit card with no foreign transaction fees.

It will probably take a week or two of using it before you really notice a difference. I've noticed that I no longer find myself reflexively bracing when drinking really hot or cold liquids. It's definitely a quality of life improvement.

Now I'm just trying to track down some travel sizes so that I don't have to go without while traveling (I hate checking bags and would hate to have to check a bag just for my toothpaste). For a Friday-Sunday weekend trip it shouldn't really matter but could start to matter if you're on the road for a week or two.

[edit] I just checked Canadian Amazon to see about travel sizes and NOTHING was eligible to ship to California, not even the full sizes, but had no such issues on the UK site. So I guess I'll have to try to score some travel sizes when I go to Vancouver in a few months, but for online ordering for home, it looks like the UK Amazon site is the easiest way to go.

Use a sensitivity toothpaste like Sensodine Repair

u/TheNoize · 1 pointr/bestof

Actually, I just ordered, this is the right link. It must be shipped from the UK :/ Thanks capitalism...

u/MrAkai · 1 pointr/snackexchange

The last order was 1 tube for $7.29 + $1.99 shipping (so $9.28)

I realized I was mistaken I ordered from amazon.com not amazon.co.uk and it shipped from the UK.

It does look like it's gone up about a buck or so since then, but here's the URL:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008VPSTOA

Also one of the places I bought from via Amazon sells direct as well:
http://www.britishpharmacare.com/index.php/sensodyne-repair-protect-whitening-toothpaste-75ml.html

If you can make a trade with UK or Canada you can probably save some $ (and make a fellow snackexchanger happy) but if you can't arrange it, I've found these to be good sources.

u/fenrir849 · 1 pointr/Futurology

$20? I think you may be looking at the wrong seller. Here is the one I order on Amazon, the only downside is it takes 2 months to arrive so I buy them in bulk.

u/orangesrhyme · 1 pointr/explainlikeimfive

here's the one I bought (or at least, Amazon says so). $9 with free shipping.

u/elislider · 1 pointr/worldnews

where are you seeing £3? Cheapest I see on Amazon is $7.80 and on ebay (from a place I'd be more inclined to trust) is ~$11/tube. Just be careful you are actually buying Sensodyne with Novamin because the USA packaging (without Novamin) looks EXACTLY the same. Only if you can read the actual package clearly and can either see the tiny print saying "Novamin" or can read the ingredients list.

EDIT: Ok I guess you were looking on Amazon.co.uk. Keep in mind that doesn't include shipping to the USA... which can be pricey if you're not factoring it in ahead of time

u/softawre · 1 pointr/Shoplifting

I order mine online and I'm in the US (not legal probably, but easy to find on Amazon). It's a tad more expensive but it's great stuff. Just throwing that out there to a fellow bad-teeth buddy.
