After a few weeks of research I jumped in and bought a DE this weekend. I have been really happy so far.
I got a Van der Hagen butterfly DE this weekend, and have been using it this week.
The razor came with a few blades, so I am going to use these while I look around for a decent variety pack. I definitely want to try Astra and Feather, since those seem to be most popular, I want to make sure and try what the majority of people enjoy so that I can have the most enjoyable shave that I can without prolonging my routine too much. This one looks to have the best variety
Right now I am using the Gilette goop cans that I just bought (same stuff I've used for years with cartridges) and I have decided that when this stuff runs out I will be getting a decent brush and soap.
Had some Proraso aftershave lotion that came in a free kit with my wife's curling iron this Christmas, and on day 3 of use, It has come in handy.
I always maintain a goatee and jawline/chinstrap and it's currently extended down to the line of my neck(trouble areas) and I've been having the most difficulty with getting in the corners of my jawline and goatee. I think that part of the issue is making 2 passes without reapplying goop (and using the goop).
I have been wondering if there are any differences that I should be conscious of with shaving IN the shower. I have a chromed, knurled handle as I figured a wood would be proned to rapid deterioration in the wet environment (or at least the finish) and I knew a smooth finish would be easy to drop with wet hands. I figure that I should figure out if there are any other things to consider before purchasing a brush, also due to the fact that I shave right after getting into the shower. I understand the boar brushes need to soak, and would probably not fit with my personal ritual very well.
