I have both that case and that motherboard (nice combo ;p). I used this cable and plugged it into the motherboard USB 3 header instead of a clunky pass through method that plugs into the your USB port.

USB Passthrough you say? You're welcome...

Edit: Also, I'd just pick up a 750 if I were you. Then when you're good and ready, go for SLI. Eventually, you're going to get hungry and want more "Umph" when you start playing games with high model quality, etc.

I actually haven't yet. I don't like pass-through cables so I need to buy this

Yeah, I bought this adapter so I could hook them up without running them out the back.

Also I recommend buying this if you don't want your front panel usb 3.0 to be plugged in outside the case.

Great build! You should definitely be proud of it.
If your mobo has an internal USB 3.0 header (doesn't look like it does), you can use an adapter like this fairly inexpensively. Just a thought for ya.

If you get the corsair 650d case, you're going to want to get this adapter card with it (or one similar). The usb 3.0 passthrough for the front i/o has male external headers on them. Otherwise you have to pass them through the outside of the case and plug it into the rear i/o panel of the Mobo. I have this case and love it, except for this one issue. EDIT: If the mobo has the 19pin usb 3.0 header, you can get this instead

Cool cool... I would recommend a dual USB port (as suggested by /u/brad_4116) on the internal header for your boot (I did this on my FreeNAS box and it's solid) so the externals are free for you to do as you please. If you're not using up the PCIe slot (assuming ITX) then an expansion card with more USB ports is an option as well.

Something like this is what I have in one system but they make 2.0 versions for it as well.

Thank you so much James. You've been officially great help. I have one final question.

What would you recommend for the USB 3.0 situation, if I reroute the cable and plug it in the I/O on the back, this will make all USB 3.0 ports active? Including the ones in the front?

Or should I be looking for an adapter like this http://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Tek-USB3-0-Adapter-Cable/dp/B005NGGKPU

Damn...I keep trying to find the same part elsewhere, not having much success. I'm sure you could buy a couple different adapters to do the same job, maybe male to male header adapter + female header to 2x female type a + type a male to male, that one is way too long but there is this one too (not sure if they ship to new zealand).

Of course, that will cost a lot more for all these adapters =/

A great case, but a bit outdated. OP if you buy this case make sure you get a usb 3.0 to internal usb 3 adapter like this one. You'll need it if you want front usb 3.

u/rivars · 1 pointr/buildapc

I was going to do that, but the specs on Newegg don't say they have a USB pin header on the board, but on the ASRock website they do. So I will probably have to get the board and see what is up before I purchase either adapter.

EDIT: This is the header I was looking at originally. http://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Tek-USB3-0-Adapter-Cable/dp/B005NGGKPU/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1395615843&sr=1-3&keywords=usb3+header

EDIT 2: Looks like by default USB3 may not be supported on this chipset. I guess I'll have to do some more investigating. http://www.freenas.org/whats-new/2013/12/freenas-9-2-0-release.html
