DAMN YOU!!!

DAMN YOU TO HECK!!!!

Now you got me thinking about buying either the E485 or E585 with the Ryzen 7 2700u and 1080p screen just to toy around with. I'm not made of money you know....!!!!

I'm probably going to bump up the RAM on my own to 12GB or 16GB in total. It will be cheaper to add my own m.2 PCIe NVMe SSD on my own as well. I can buy the Samsung 970 EVO 500GB for $148 on Amazon, but I also need to spend $36 on an external case specifically for m.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs so that I can copy the OS from the hard drive to the SSD via USB connection. It's about 2x more expensive than a similar external case for m.2 SATA SSDs. For less than the $250 upgrade cost for a 256GB SSD, I can install a 500GB SSD and also keep the default 500GB HDD as a storage drive.

-----------------------------------------------

Note... the discount is not ~$200. After configuring the E485 to 8GB of RAM, 1080p screen and replacing the HDD with a 256GB SSD, the price is $628 with a $157 discount. Unless the ~$200 discount was for a very limited time.

I recommend you consider upgrading from the Ryzen 3 2200u to the Ryzen 2500u. For $50 you get a quad core APU that is relatively close to the performance of the i5-8250u CPU. Instead of getting the Vega 3 graphics core which is roughly similar to the Intel HD 520 graphic core in 6th gen Intel CPUs, you upgrade to the Vega 8 graphics core which is roughly 2x more powerful than the Intel UHD 620 graphics core in 8th gen Intel CPUs. That makes the Vega 8 roughly comparable to a nVidia 930m. Not great, but certainly better.

The following configuration costs $528 after the discount

- AMD Ryzen 5 2500u

- 8GB of RAM - Recommend you go with 2x 4GB Sticks for better integrated graphics performance of about 10% to 20% depending on the specific game. RAM operates at full speed (Dual Channel) when there are two sticks rather than a single stick (Single Channel). Of course, if you plan on bumping up beyond a total of 8GB in the future, then just get the option for the 1 stick of 8GB RAM.

- 1080p screen

- 500GB HDD

Unless you want to keep spending more money now just deal with the slower hard drive for the moment. But when you have more money you can buy the following items for a total of $124 which brings the total cost to $652. Spending $38 more for the configuration you were thinking about and some "elbow grease" you can have a more powerful APU (4 cores instead of only 2 cores) with a more powerful integrated graphics core and a total of 750GB of storage. Shipping and taxes not included.
